Open Question: New Novel ideas.....?

Hi, I need a little help my new novel. It's about a man whose wife is dying from breast cancer. The couple have a seven year old daughter together. During the pregnancy the wife was diagnosed with cancer, battled it for 3 years, then went into remission. The cancer came back however 4 years later. Here's my problem... When it comes back should she deny any further treatments because she doesn't want to go through chemo and radiation, or should she be willing to battle it again through her fear and distress? Each decision will have an impact on the story. Which one sounds better to you? (Sorry it doesn't have much detail, but I'm a bit lazy at the moment) more

Resolved Question: When suffering from malpractice better to confront the doctor first or go straight to an attorney?

I am paying 100% out of pocket for expensive fertility treatment from a private clinic. The nurse told me to take a particular medication starting on a particular day which essentially would void any pregnancy. I found out after the expensive insemination with sperm that is no longer even available, by getting 2nd and 3rd opinions. I requested a copy of my medical records and in different handwriting than the rest of the page is written in the correct dosage/time period as if it was added in after the fact. Another doctor's nurse had called me to tell me to start taking the pills on a particular day and when I told her I had already been taking them for a week she said to follow those directions then. My question is that I just got the records yesterday and am angry they don't match what the nurse had advised me, and have the date of the prescription she wrote and I got filled as evidence along with the reasoning she had given me to take them on a different day which isn't even listed in the paperwork. She told me she had gone over it with the doctor he had ok'd it and it has also resulted in a large benign cyst that needs surgery that I can't afford. I'm tempted to email or call the doctor about it today but fear he will deny things. Should I let him respond and talk to him first or contact an attorney? more

HIV is transmitted through direct contact of a mucous membrane or the bloodstream with a bodily fluid containing HIV, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluid, preseminal fluid, and breast milk.[4][5] This transmission can involve anal, vaginal or oral sex, blood transfusion, contaminated hypodermic needles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding or other exposure to one of the above bodily fluids. AIDS is now a pandemic.[6] In 2007, it was estimated that 33.2 million people lived with the disease worldwide, and that AIDS killed an estimated 2.1 million people, including 330,000 children.[7] Over three-quarters of these deaths occurred in sub-Saharan Africa.[7] Genetic research indicates that HIV originated in west-central Africa during the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.[8][9] AIDS was first recognized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1981 and its cause, HIV, identified in the early 1980s.[10] Although treatments for AIDS and HIV can slow the course of the disease, there is currently no vaccine or cure. Antiretroviral treatment reduces both the mortality and the morbidity of HIV infection, but these drugs are expensive and routine access to antiretroviral medication is not available in all countries.[11] Due to the difficulty in treating HIV infection, preventing infection is a key aim in controlling the AIDS pandemic, with health organizations promoting safe sex and needle-exchange programmes in attempts to slow the spread of the virus. more

Open Question: Are there other treatments?

Preface: I work as a lifeguard, swimming lessons instructor, and competitive swim coach. I spend a lot of time in bathing suits, shorts and tank tops. I am unfortunate enough to be hindered with a tendency towards stretch marks! BOOOOOO! My weight was always fluctuated from all the different swimming training I do, but these past couple years, I've started developing unsightly stretch marks on my inner thighs all the way down to my knees, my hips, the tops of my thighs near my pubic area, some on my sides, my breasts, and most recently, my bicep/tricep areas. I've become more and more self conscious about my body because of these marks to the point that I won't wear anything more revealing than long shorts, 3/4 length t-shirts, and no low necklines. I've used countless creams of different brands, I've done the massage bit, and nothing seems to make a difference. I might add that I'm also very pale, so the stretch marks come up very bright red. I'm beginning to get so self conscious that I'm afraid for future intimate relationships -- will these stretch marks be enough to cause a man to leave me in disgust? It sounds rash, but I'm that put off by my own appearance at this point. I guess my real question is are there any alternative treatments out there? I want to hear about all of them. Holistic, surgical, topical, anything you can throw at me. I need to know that there's something I can do about them. I don't want to be the pathetic modest girl who wears sweaters and jeans to the beach or who won't go out on dates because of some sad skin ailment 20 years old, no pregnancies, no thyroid troubles or any other weight issues. Just stretch marks. more

Open Question: why is weed illegal? its perfectly safe. FACTS PROVEN. read them.?

its not a sin? While The Bible doesn't name it, it DOES say we are to put only natural things into our bodies and marijuana is a totally natural herb that until made illegal, was used by many cultures in many ways for it's healing ability. (Smoked, drank as tea, used in cooking.) And those ancient people lived long, healthy lives.also,There is no convincing scientific evidence that marijuana causes psychological damage or mental illness in either teenagers or adults. Most people who smoke marijuana smoke it only occasionally. A small minority of Americans - less than 1 percent - smoke marijuana on a daily basis. An even smaller minority develop a dependence on marijuana. Some people who smoke marijuana heavily and frequently stop without difficulty. Others seek help from drug treatment professionals. Marijuana does not cause physical dependence. If people experience withdrawal symptoms at all, they are remarkably mild. if it was legal more people would be out of jail leaveing are prisons open for more deadly crimminals,Marijuana arrests in the United States doubled between 1991 and 1995. In 1995, more than one-half-million people were arrested for marijuana offenses. Eighty-six percent of them were arrested for marijuana possession. Tens of thousands of people are now in prison for marijuana offenses. An even greater number are punished with probation, fines, and civil sanctions, including having their property seized, their driver's license revoked, and their employment terminated. Despite these civil and criminal sanctions, marijuana continues to be readily available and widely used. Moderate smoking of marijuana appears to pose minimal danger to the lungs. Like tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke contains a number of irritants and carcinogens. But marijuana users typically smoke much less often than tobacco smokers, and over time, inhale much less smoke. As a result, the risk of serious lung damage should be lower in marijuana smokers. There have been no reports of lung cancer related solely to marijuana,MEDICAL:Marijuana has been shown to be effective in reducing the nausea induced by cancer chemotherapy, stimulating appetite in AIDS patients, and reducing intraocular pressure in people with glaucoma. There is also appreciable evidence that marijuana reduces muscle spasticity in patients with neurological disorders. GATE WAY DRUG?:Marijuana does not cause people to use hard drugs. What the gateway theory presents as a causal explanation is a statistic association between common and uncommon drugs, an association that changes over time as different drugs increase and decrease in prevalence. Marijuana is the most popular illegal drug in the United States today. Therefore, people who have used less popular drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and LSD, are likely to have also used marijuana. Most marijuana users never use any other illegal drug. Indeed, for the large majority of people, marijuana is a terminus rather than a gateway drug. causes crime? umm no, Every serious scholar and government commission examining the relationship between marijuana use and crime has reached the same conclusion: marijuana does not cause crime. The vast majority of marijuana users do not commit crimes other than the crime of possessing marijuana. Among marijuana users who do commit crimes, marijuana plays no causal role. Almost all human and animal studies show that marijuana decreases rather than increases aggression. INCREASED PREGNANCY?There is no evidence that marijuana causes infertility in men or women. In animal studies, high doses of THC diminish the production of some sex hormones and can impair reproduction. However, most studies of humans have found that marijuana has no impact of sex hormones. In those studies showing an impact, it is modest, temporary, and of no apparent consequence for reproduction. There is no scientific evidence that marijuana delays adolescent sexual development, has feminizing effect on males, or a masculinizing effect on females. CAR ACCIDENTS?:There is no compelling evidence that marijuana contributes substantially to traffic accidents and fatalities. At some doses, marijuana affects perception and psychomotor performances- changes which could impair driving ability. However, in driving studies, marijuana produces little or no car-handling impairment- consistently less than produced by low moderate doses of alcohol and many legal medications. In contrast to alcohol, which tends to increase risky driving practices, marijuana tends to make subjects more cautious. Surveys of fatally injured drivers show that when THC is detected in the blood, alcohol is almost always detected as well. For some individuals, marijuana may play a role in bad driving. The overall rate of highway accidents appears not to be significantly affected by marijuana's widespread use in society. OVER DOSE: Marijuana does not cause serious health problems like those caused by tobacco or alcohol (e.g., strong addic more

Resolved Question: How to raise chances of pregnancy?

My husband and I got married about a year and a half ago, and have been trying to start a family for about five months with no luck. The stress and disappointment is getting to us. We saw a doctor, and neither of us is infertile or sick, the little swimmers just don't seem to be taking hold. We don't have the extra money for expensive fertility treatments and are looking for any advice you can give about raising the chances of pregnancy. more

Resolved Question: Am I being a hypocrite to my friend?

Am I being a hypocrite? I am upset with my friend for the way she treated me, but now I find myself treating her in a similar way. Here's the situation- She is pregnant. Her baby will need some medical treatment after it is born, but should be fine. My husband is deployed. When she found out about her baby, obviously she was upset. I tried to be there for her, offered to help her with things, etc. Well, after that, for 2 months I didn't hear back from her (this was a GOOD friend). She was still on facebook commenting on mutual friend's pages, posting in her blog, etc. SHe was posting pictures out with friends every weekend. But I called her 3-4 times in those 2 months, sent a few normal txts, etc. Never heard a word back, except once when she sent me an email because she was upset over something my sister had said to her. I apologized for my sister, and then it went back to silence. I was upset because I really needed someone, I was struggling with my husband being gone, and she wasn't there for me. It really hurt. She couldn't even respond to a text message, when all I ask is "hey, how are you doing?" I just let it go, and stopped contacting her. I figured that a friend who only wants me around when she needs me isn't as good of a friend as I thought. I got a facebook invite to her massive Bday party (everyone on her list was invited) and I didn't go. Well after the party, she called me once. I didn't call her back. She also sent me an email, which I responded to politely, but shortly. She asked why I didn't go to the party, I told her I haven't been in a party mood lately with the hubby being gone and all. I left it at that, and she never said anything else. Am I being a hypocrite by ignoring her calls (if she even makes any) from here on out? Normally I would just talk to her about everything, but I don't feel like I can tell her why I am upset, because I worry that it would upset her (and as I mentioned above she has already had a difficult pregnancy). I don't want to make things worse for her, but at the same time, I don't feel like I can just got back to normal after she ignored me for so long. (In case I didn't make it clear, this girl was a CLOSE friend. We used to see each-other regularly and either talk or text about 5 days out of the week. Then one day she just stopped responding. but only to me, our other mutual friends she acted totally normal to). more

Open Question: PCOS & Successful pregnancy?

Does anyone have any good advice for treatment options for my daughter who has PCOS and wants to conceive? She is on Metformin & Spironolactone as well as the BC pill (which doctors put her on to regulate her period.) I have been told though, that the BC pill doesn't make you ovulate. We talked today and she is going to go off the BC pill. She wants to hear REAL stories of REAL people who have PCOS and have had successful pregnancies; how they did it and how long did it take? Any help and advice would be a blessing. Thank you in advance. God Bless. more

Open Question: Woodworm and Dry Rot Killer fumes whilst pregnant!Advice please.?

Ok, I rent a 3 storey property, the first floor is the kitchen and living room. Directly underneath is an old cellar which is being treated for rot and insulation installation. A month ago the builder knocked on our door to say he was going to use some chemical to put on the wood beams down there. He said it would create a smell but it wasn't toxic, and that he had phoned the company to make sure it was safe to use with tenants living above. Anyway, that night I emailed the company that made this stuff and asked if it was harmful. Infact, I'll copy/paste what I wrote and the reply I got; Hi there. I was just wondering about this product. I have a very large cellar that needs this treatment and have tenants who live in the 3 floorsabove. Will the fumes be hazardous to thier health or thier animals whilst this product is applied? The kitchen area and living area are directly above and will be more likely to be affected from the fumes. Thanks, (me) Reply; Good Morning With reference to your recent enquiry, Using Woodworm and Dry Rot Killer in a cellar will generate fumes which if not ventilated can cause dizziness and nausea. If fumes are experienced in upper floors then it would be advisable to re-located tenants until the fumes dissipate. I have attached a copy of our MSDS Sheet for the product. Many thanks (them) Anyway, what he said and this lady above said contradicts each other, as the smell was so unbearable, but I put up with it for one night as I was waiting for the reply from the company (the next day) Anyway, I've recently become pregnant, I am about 4-5 weeks and I want this baby so much, I don't want someones stupidity to harm my baby. What do you think I should do? Should I move out whilst the fumes are there or should I make a complaint. Not many people know about my pregnancy yet as it is too early to tell people so if I tell him I'm pregnant he'll tell my landlord which I don't want atleast yet and coming from him. So angry anyway, it's not the first time I've experienced a problem with this builder. Would the fumes have any damage on the fetus/growth? Please, only coherant answers :) more

I got really really itchy when I used it. Anyways, along with that I have sore breasts, but they're not hard and slight abdominal cramps, along with some slight spotting only when I wipe. Voting Question: Infertility support for Catholics?

I am 27 years old and Catholic. Until recently (April of this year) I attended Mass each week and had a sense of peace in regards to my faith. Though, since then my husband and I have learned that we may never successfully achieve pregnancy the "natural way." I am struggling with the Church's view of infertility treatments - they aren't acceptable. Does anyone know of any online support groups or forums for Catholics with fertility issues?Baby Bump: Thank you for your comments. I should add, though, that the infertility issues that my husband and I share are not due to my health. Instead, we learned that my husband is the one inflicted. After testing we have determined that there is nothing that can be done to improve his odds. more

Resolved Question: Can anyone clear this up for me?

What exactly is the view of the Catholic Church on abortions that are to save the life of the mother? I read that the pope does not support abortions for any reason whatsoever, even therapeutic abortions. If a woman has to terminate her pregnancy because a doctor tells her she has a severe uterine infection, is septic, and will die unless the baby is delivered, (which is the only treatment in this case) and the baby is not of viable age yet, does that mean that the pope will look down on her for letting the doctor induce her labor, which will result in the death of the baby after he is born? Are there other people, besides the catholic pope, who also believe that the woman should die because ending her pregnancy would result in the death of the baby? Is the mother's life less important than the baby's life in the eyes of the catholic church?"Pope Benedict XVI later gave a controversial speech in Angola where he appeared to blur the distinction between indirect abortion and direct abortion. He condemned all forms of abortion, even those considered to be therapeutic." That is what I was talking about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indirect_abortion#Pope_Benedict_XVI_speech_in_Angola more

Open Question: Can injuries from a car accident affect my pregnancy and labour?

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and on Thursday (2 days ago) a 7.5 ton wagon with a full load crashed into the back of the car I was a passenger in and shunted us forward into the car in front, the rear of the car was completely crushed. We were stationary at the time of the accident. The first thing I did was take myself to hospital to get baby checked out - all was fine with baby and I've had no bleeding up to now. I've been very sore since then and i'm suffering with lower and mid back ache and tummy pains when moving (like i've been doing stomach crunches). I've been in a similar accident in the past and it took me over a year to recover from my injuries and before I fell pregnant I still had back issues. Normally I would take co-codamol and some form of anti-inflammatory and get on with it, but due to my pregnancy the doctors would only give me paracetamol, which hasn't helped in the slightest! Do you think that this accident could now affect my pregnancy in any way? (i.e. make any back pain I may get from the extra weight even worse). Also, do you think it could hinder my labour in any way? I only have about 19 weeks to go (assuming baby doesn't make an early appearance) and from previous experience from an accident that wasn't as bad, It took my longer than that to start feeling better, even with 12 weeks of physio treatment and painkillers. I don't want the stupidity of another person to potentially ruin the rest of this pregnancy for us by making me suffer. :-( more

Voting Question: Do bed bugs have antennas on top of their head that are as long as they're body?

I found a small bug, smaller than a grain of rice, crawling up my laptop screen. I've been worried for weeks I could have bed bugs, and read somewhere about them hiding in laptops and I leave my computer on my bed a lot. The bug was super super tiny and really thin with antennas on top of it's head (2) which were just as long as it's body. It didn't fly. It was so small but not oval in shape and it didn't have any other 'antennaes' sticking out from it's body that I could see. But I'm not 100%. the reason i have fears about bed bugs is my husband travels quite a bit and i have a pimply rash type thing all over my upper back and neck. But I've also been having massage treatments with sesame oil so not sure. and am pregnant so that could be acne of pregnancy. HELP re: the bug. Hard to sleep more

Voting Question: Antibiotics and birth control, early pregnancy symptoms?

Ok, I have been taking Ortho TriCyclen Lo. I also have been on 3 different antibiotics in the last 2 weeks as I came in contact with a baby with an infectious disease. I was not aware that I needed to use a back-up birth control until almost a week into my treatment. I am not due for my period for about 10 days, but... Wednesday morning, totally out of the blue, I felt sick to my stomach and threw up twice. Then, last night, I felt sick to my stomach again and ended up being up all night with what I think is heartburn (have never had it before but my hubby gets it and he said it sounded just like heartburn). Woke up this morning feeling incredibly nauseous again. The nausea improved a little bit after eating a couple of Ritz crackers. I know it's too early to test, but I wonder with all the different antibiotics, could these symptoms be pregnancy related so early? She did not say anything about it, I just happened to look it up when a friend told me that they could interfere. After that we started using back-up protection.I took my temperature this morning bc i read that you may have a slight increase in body temp. Usually I'm around 97, today I was 99.1. Resolved Question: How could I stop lying to my parent about seeing my boyfriend on a regular day basis!?

It's been too long for this. I always catch myself being a pathological liar when it comes to being with or seeing my boyfriend. I love him to death, but my mom is a serious control freak, after the whole pregnancy scare incident almost 8 months ago between us. She won't let me do anything! Without her monitoring me like I'm a child. I know its not very old but I'm 18 years old and I have been for 5 months already. I have a job,I'm partially supporting myself, I'm doing classes part time at college. I should be able to do adult things without being monitored and having to ask. I've showed lots of improvement these past 8 months and I feel I'm ready to be able to go somewhere and not say please all of the time. I love my mother and respect her ruling, but shes gotten a bit out of hand. I can't even have a decent relationship with him anymore. For goodness sakes I'm tired of this prisoner treatment. I did not commit a crime because I'm in love. Just simply being young and restless. How could i be honest with her and say how I feel without her thinking I'm trying to go against her? Not to mention shes big on telling me that I would betray her if I ever see him again after what happened and always sends me on a guilt trip. I just want a life. more

Voting Question: Do you consider this a traumatic event...?

I believe I am totally suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness. I am obsessed with my ex and what he did to me. I was a young naieve girl ...around 17 when I met him. I lost my virginity to him when I was 18 . I trully truly believed he loved me and he begged me to have his kid and said he would marry me. I never wanted kids before I met him but i loved him so much I just wanted to be that loving family with him. I got pregnant . I left jobcorps(where i met him) because i graduated and he stayed behind. He met another girl WHILE i was pregnant and when I was 5 months pregnant I found out. He totally left me . He never went to 1 doctor appointment nor was he there for the birth. During the remainder of my pregnancy they would send me pictures of them kissing ,call and hang up on me etc. He told her all of my most intimate secrets i only shared with him and she threw it in my face. When I did have the baby and he saw the baby he came in and "Accidently " dropped a love letter he wrote to her in my room and left. I read it and I just broke down. I cried like a baby. I cried like a baby literally EVERY day of my pregnancy. I was in a deep depression . Shortly afterwards I developed post partum depression and literally lost it. I never got help for it. I just waited for the worst symptons to disappear. He stayed with the girl...she got pregnant. He not only took care of her . She would post on her myspace things like "my babyfather and i went for the ultrasound today ...bum bitches wish they could do that " just things like that to make me feel bad about myself. He refused to be a dad to our kid together. In fact she was so jealous she tore my baby's pictures up in front of him and he allowed her to do it. So I raised our kid alone...fell on bad times and became homeless .He let us stay with him for a day . He basically forced himself on me that nite. I became pregnant .He stayed with me for maybe 2 weeks before he went back to the same girl..He did a total switch. He went from saying we were getting married to telling me to have an abortion . He said he used me . I got real sick 1 day and asked him to watch our kid so i could go to the er . He put the girl on the phone and they both LAUGHED at me together . I was like 6 months pregnant at the time .My voice was totally gone . I was living in a homeless shelter and he just destroyed me mentally beyond repair. I felt than and i feel now totally and completly worthless. I feel like something major must be wrong with me to get that treatment . He didnt do it to the other girl...why me? So i ran into him when i was 9 months pregnant at the train station . He saw me and laughed at me like i was a big joke . I got mad and yelled at him for laughing at me I think i said what the hell are you laughing at and he took off his sunglasses and said "you know what you are...you really wanna know...you are yesterday's trash " I broke down. I completly broke out in tears and he walked away laughing . To this day those words just repeat in my head over and over again .When I gave birth ..I was alone I was so desperate that i called him in for the birth. For the most part he looked completly bored and he even tried to sleep with me while I was in labor! When the nurses left he came over and lifted my hospital gown ...pried my legs open and tried to force himself on me...there i am strapped up with monitors and he was only interested in sleeping with me . After ditching me and my kids...after 5 years he decides he now wants to be a father . I let him back in ..mostly because a part of me still wanted to be with him and have that family since we have 2 kids together .He made himself clear that's never going to happen . He said " i used you for your p*ssy and your uterus" . Outside of his confession he's been a good father. He's really good with the ids and they love him but inside im totally obsessed with me. My anger and contempt has reached an all time high . I can sit and think about his betrayal for hours and hours. I even had homicidal thoughts about him. This is completly ruining my life and i cant help it. Its like i cant get over it now matter how hard i try. Im completly consumed with him. I go on facebook and wait for HOURS for a 3 word message from him about our kids...than i obsess and analyze over and over...trying to come up with a reply that can somehow jar a reaction out of him..I lose track of time and all of a sudden i look up and 3 hours passed ...thats how consumed i am . I think about him literally ALL day long and all nite long. I cant eat . I cant sleep and i just cant stop or help it. Its like...im in a total state of pain and mental anguish. I cant even function. Im not a good mother . I dont play with the kids . I have no energy to do anything but sit on facebook and wait for a message from him ....constantly changing my profile picture trying to look attractive ....it takes more

Voting Question: Re-called for a second colposcopy in pregnancy..?

Hi everyone, Following an abnormal smear test around January time, I was sent to a colposcopy clinic in April. The doctor checked me over and said it would be necessary to take some biopsies for examination. I was a little sore after the procedure but nothing unbearable..I waited around seven weeks on the results, during which time I found out I was pregnant :) I'm now around 11 weeks pregnant, and was with my doctor last week. I had received a letter to say that the biopsies still showed 'moderate' changes/abnormalities and that they would like to bring me in for further treatment..an appointment letter was to follow. My Doctor thought that now that I'm pregnant, the treatment would most likely be carried out after I give birth, but I received notificaiton today that despite being pregnant, the colposcopy clinic want me back so they can investigate further and treat me. I guess I'm asking - does this mean that the 'changes' are likely to be considered quite threatening? Surely if they were mild to moderate then they could leave it until after I give birth? What does this mean for my pregnancy? Any help apprecaited :) more

Voting Question: I am dangerously obsessed with my ex?

I have two kids by my ex.It's a really long story but long story short. He basically used and threw me away like a dirty dishrag. He lied got me pregnant on purpose TWICE fully knowing he never saw us in a long term relationship. I spent both pregnancies alone, depressed and crying. He's shown no remorse nor has he been an active father in my kids life until recently. My kids are ages 2 and 5 and they have autism (runs in HIS family!) . I found his rejection combined with the kids problems and...my life has snowballed out of control. I am so angry inside at him. He has moved on with his life and left me in my misery with the kids. Like I said recently he's decided to step up and be a dad. (been doing a great job so far) However inside im still extremly angry... My thoughts are downright dangerous and Im FINALLY realizing that. I think about him and his betrayal literally 24/7 and I know I need help. I cant get better on my own . Right now the kids are at his house for the weekend....I miss my kids terribly however I dont really want to get them back yet. I never even wanted kids before I met him. He BEGGED me to have his child and i get pregnant and he ditches me for another woman. He's in a new relationship now...been in several and i have NOT and its been like 5 years. I've been holding out for him for FIVE years...YES i know how flipping crazy is that?! I cant get over it and i cant stop thinking about him 24/7 ...ive stopped eating i dont enjoy my fave activities..I feel like im STUCK.... I know i need help and im going to start outpatient treatment...but im wondering if i should just admit myself to the psych ward...that's how loopy i feel right now. I am finally ready to get help. Should I tell my ex what's going on ? I wrote sumthin on another messageboard in the heat of the moment and ppl got so alarmed they wanted to call the police and have me investigated ..ppl are STILL writing on it that's how bad it is . and this was a couple days ago...I JUST reread what i wrote and it's BAD...reallly really BAD . I wrote about wanting to kill my ex and his girlfriend...in explicit detail . Like I could CLEARLY be arrested for what I wrote! It has intent all over it...that is why im like should i tell the ex ....because he's going to find out one way or the other when the police contact him...and he has the kids rite now...and im wondering if i should just leave the kids there...and go to the hospital . Honestly at the time i was angry...i was just typing out of anger but now i realize how NOT normal my reaction is to the situation and i want help.I did not even realize I was obsessed with my ex...I just thought i was still in love with him and hurt...now i realize what im feeling could not possibly be love ....and when i realized that it's like somethin clicked and i just wanna get help so i can move on and my kids can have thier dad in thier life because ever since he's stepped up he's been a great father more

Resolved Question: What is the best treatment for Fibroid?

I have been diagnosed with Fibroid for 2 years now, and I went to my local hospital recently to discuss about my MRI Pelvis scan that I had done a few months before. Doctor has said that it is bigger than before and my uterus is now 14 x 9 x 14 cm, and that in order for me to have a safe pregnancy in future I would need to have an operation to cut the Fibroid out but a cut in my lower stomach. My doctor was not helpful and I felt that she was pushing me to either say yes even thought I don't know what is the best thing to do. My stomach is quite big and does look like I am at least 4-5months pregnant which is annoying at times. Is there any drugs that can shrink this or is it really best to do what my doctor has said? She says she will refer me to another hospital who can discuss in more detail but I do not know how long this will take. more

Resolved Question: Circumcision, abortion, vaccinations, feedings?

So, I noticed how people like to discuss controversial subjects on YA and I thought to lump all of these issues into one question. I also think that it would be interesting to see peoples ideas comparatively on each of these subjects. I'll go first. Circumcision: My husband and I got our child circumcised, It was actually a decision that I left mostly to my husband since he has the penis in the family. Abortion: I consider myself pro-life with the caveat that I am very grateful that abortions are legal in this country. I know that doesn't make sense but, in my opinion the mother's life always comes first. I think that in countries where abortions are strictly prohibited you'll find much higher maternal death rates. For example, in Nicaragua abortion is strictly illegal, not even for ectopic pregnancies. Also a doctor can't even give cancer treatment to a pregnant woman because of potential harm to the developing fetus. Doctors can lose their medical licenses. I know that doesn't have to do with abortions but in my view it goes against my beliefs that the woman's life comes first. Vaccinations: I fully vaccinate my child on the CDC schedule. I just don't see the sense in missed or delayed vaccines. Feedings: I formula feed my baby. I only see this as a controversial issue because when I started formula feeding people treated me like I was feeding my baby poison. My baby is doing wonderful on formula. So. who wants to go next? I know these are controversial issues and all answers given will be respected.Interesting answers everyone more

Resolved Question: Anyone had local anesthetics during early pregnancy and later found out problems with the fetus?

I'm 13 weeks pregnant and just had an emergency root canal treatment. I had both x-rays and local anesthetics. But later that night, I felt tiny tummy pains but didn't think about much. But noticed a little bit spottings the next morning. Called my doc but he said nothing to do with the dental treatment. But since I will have another dental appointment within the same week, starting to think whether it is safe to do so much in a week. But my doc said it's okay. Just wondering anyone had any dental works required x-rays and local anesthetics around 13 weeks and later found out something is not right with the fetus? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Preconception Visit: Do I really need to do genetic testing?

I just came back from seeing a specialist about an ovarian cyst that's been causing problems, but now seems to be healing on its own. I told her that my husband and I are trying to conceive, and she suggested scheduling a Preconception Visit for me, including genetic testing. My thing is I don't want to pay for unnecessary treatment, nor do I want my insurance company to do so either. I contacted the insurance company about the genetic testing, and they said we're responsible for the first $600! Is genetic testing really that necessary or standard? My husband and I are both healthy, exercise more than regularly, don't smoke, and have a glass of wine every once in a while with dinner. I'm Caucasian and he is Latino. We are both aware of our family medical histories as well. I'm leaning towards not having the genetic testing b/c most of my friends have never had it with their pregnancies. I'm also leaning towards not having the preconception visit at all b/c I don't see the point. I already know what I should be doing to prepare for conception and have definitely been reading articles and books, but I wanted to get input from other women who've gone through this.Thank you so much for your response. :) I was iffy about the testing to begin with, and after listening to everyone's experiences, I'm opting out of the genetic testing. We certainly did not see the point of spending all that money when we did not have any additional risk factors. I'm already taking prenatals and Calcium supplements, so I think we're good to go on our end. :) $600, eshhh. I'm glad to know it's not something we have to get done or that it's standard. :) Thank you everyone! :) more

Resolved Question: why is my period so messed up? how can I fix it?

My menstrual cycle is really screwed up right now! Here are the details (sorry so long): - I had my last normal period in late March. - In April, I got a UTI and then took an antibiotic which caused very bad side effects - particularly some really bad abdominal pain. - When I went back for my post-UTI checkup, there was still blood in my urine. I was due for my period then so they wanted me to wait a couple of weeks, then come back. I didn't get my period, but started getting occasional, very light streaking of blood in my discharge. They thought this could be causing the continued blood in my urine, but wanted me to see my doctor and do another urine test. - During this time I was occasionally having pelvic area pain on the right side, which felt like it was leftover from the medication side effects, but was taking a long time to go away. - I was very, very stressed out about the medication reaction and the repeated urine testing. I actually had my doctor prescribe me some anti-anxiety medication. I was not sleeping right for at least a month. - I saw my doctor in mid-May, at which point my urine had no more blood in it. However, she wanted to do a pelvic exam because of the pelvic pain. Everything was normal. - About a month ago, I started spotting blood. I kept thinking it was finally my period coming, but it would never last more than a few hours. At first it was about once a week, then maybe three times a week, and now about every other day. In the past few days I have felt slight cramps, but nothing like normal PMS cramps. - I contacted my doctor about this today and she said that, since I'm bleeding some, I don't need to have a period induced. She said that I'm still shedding the lining of the uterus, just not through a normal period. She wants me to come in for another office visit (but she isn't available for three weeks) to talk about getting me back to normal. She has ordered some blood tests but I don't know what they are. Other info: I'm not sexually active, so no chance of pregnancy. Also, I am very prone to irregular periods... just not quite this irregular. My questions: Is it possible that the illness/medication/anxiety could have thrown my cycle off this much? Would my body be able to return to a normal cycle on its own? Is there anything I can do to help it along? What would my doctor be looking for in the blood tests? What is the normal treatment for something like this? Thanks to anyone who can help! more

Voting Question: Why is it optional to get an HIV test while pregnant?

I'm pregnant, and my OBGYN asked me if I wanted to be tested for HIV. I accepted, but was thinking later "Shouldn't it be mandatory?". So the next time I saw him, I asked about it, and he said they only do it if the pregnant woman requests it. This really boggled my mind, so I looked it up and it's apparently true. On www.avert.org it states "In many countries you will be offered an HIV test when you are pregnant as part of your antenatal care. It is your decision whether to take it or not. However, if you are infected with HIV and do not know it, you cannot benefit from treatment that can prevent HIV from being passed onto your baby." So my question is...why is this? Shouldn't pregnant women get the HIV test done as part of protocol lab work? The baby's chance of contracting HIV is reduced to only 2% if the proper measures are taken during pregnancy/delivery/nursing. Not to mention that an HIV-infected mother's chances of living a long healthy life with her child are reduced by not knowing for an extended period. So what gives? This seems extremely wrong to me. more

Resolved Question: Symptoms, late, but negative HPT??? Help!!?

My husband and I are TTC and I currently am on day 33 of my cycle. We have been doing fertility treatments for several months up until a few months ago (needed a break). We had a miscarriage about a year ago and I believe I needed the fertility specialist to 'reset' system with the treatments. We have been using the saliva-based fertility monitor and on Day 12, I had a very strong ferning followed by a faint ferning on day 13. Intercourse was timed accordingly. I believe I ovulated on day 14/15. Around day 21 or so, I started having uncharacteristic fatigue and started having sever indigestion (constant) several days later. I'm currently on day 33 and these symptoms are on-going. On day 28, I had a faint ferning, a faint ferning on day 29, a strong ferning on day 30, negative ferning on days 31 and 32 (although it had tight organization on on both slides, so sort of iffy). On day 33, today, I had faint ferning. I guess when I have faint ferning, I should state the slides looked way different than the days of very, very negative ferning. On day 31 I took a digital EPT and it came up negative. I thought day 31 would have been totally sufficient to take a urine test in the morning. Negative as the day is long. So, here I am on day 33 waiting on my AF or wondering what I should do next. Last month, I had a 32 day cycle, but didn't have the saliva ferning test to test ovulation. But, last month, by this day, I had my AF and had none of these symptoms at all (no fatigue, no lower back ache, no indigestion, etc). With my first early pregnancy and even all of the fertility drugs (one drug is a HCG injection which is a pregnancy hormone) and I didn't have breast tenderness or other 'regular' symptoms, so the lack of breast tenderness doesn't bother me. Has anyone out there had experience with this or have some info to share with me? We are praying daily for the baby we're meant to have at the perfect time and having hope every cycle. Help!! I guess I should also question if having the ferning I've been having from Days 28 - present (day 31 was negative), could I have ovulated late in the cycle? We didn't have timed intercourse during this time around day 30 because my husband was away on business. more

Resolved Question: can a yeast infection cause symptoms of a UTI?

I went to the ER because I thought I had a UTI i.e. frequent urination, urge to urinate with just a little coming out, pelvic pain. They told me there was no blood in the urine and that it wasnt a UTI and that its all caused by a yeast infection (that I have aquired from antibiotics that I was on for a tooth infection) so they didnt want to put me on MORE antibiotics so they gave me stuff to treat the yeast infection well I have been on the treatment for 2 days now (its a 3 day treatment) and Im still peeing frequently though there isnt much pain anymore and theres no chance of pregnancy> I just want to know if this really could be caused by a yeast infection or if you can have a UTI without blood in it, has anyone experienced this before? thanks more

Voting Question: Why do my boobs swell and hurt so bad? Is this a pregnancy sign?

Usually before my period I get cramps just 2 days before it comes and that's the only period signs I get. But this month I got extremely swollen breasts I'm normally an A cup and they swelled up so much I fit in a B cup bra, they were also very sore, my bras hurt and I couldn't hug anyone, they were sore 2 weeks leading up to my period, then when it came it was very light and gone in 2 days (usually my period lasts 5 days) and the swelling of my boobs never went down, they are now a B cup for no reason. I'm 19 and have regular periods so it's not normal for things to be this messed up. I should mention also that a week before my period I got cramps every single day leading up to it. I didn't have unprotected sex although I did have sex but the condom didn't break and im pretty sure there were no holes in it. Why would I have all these changes to my menstrual cycle all of a sudden when it's been regular all along until now? I'm not on the pill or any other hormonal treatment that could cause this kind of thing, I'd like anyones ideas on what it is before I go to the doctor and pay him 100 to tell me whats wrong with me. more

Resolved Question: Anyone had dental works done during pregnancy and caused damages to the baby? Esp developments after birth?

Hi, I have severe toothache and think likely root canal will be needed. But concern about the x rays and anesthetics that will be used during the treatment. Since I am only 13 weeks pregnant, I'm worried this will cause problems to the baby during or after the pregnancy. Is it more safe to wait till later at the end of 2nd trimester to have dental works done? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Can I Get Pregnant Naturally With PCOS?

so i have never been "officially" diagnosed, my dr. basically said "i think you have this" and i have most of the symptoms. but have been with my fiance for 4 years. used condoms only the first 3 months. sometimes i go a few months without a period (6 at the most) i got my period last month. after i started exercising again. and have sex often. i have had a few pregnancy "scares" but lately i have been feeling tired, nauseated and my nipples hurt and bloated. i have waiting 6 days, and still no period. i just feel different about this one, maybe its just my mind playing mean tricks on me but i was wondering if any women has gotten pregnant without and kind of drugs who have PCOS? i really want a baby, but dont want to go through a million medical treatments to get that. but hopefully god blessed me this time. i am taking a pregnancy test tomorrow :) i just need cheering up and reassurance that it is possible to conceive naturally with pcos. cause every time that "not pregnant" pops up i get disappointed. :( and it makes me wonder why i even buy them in the first place! :( more

Voting Question: I am driving myself insane! Help?

This is going to be a little long, but I really need a good slap, so bear with me, please. I've never even considered the possibility of children. Never even thought it was possible because I have extremely severe Endomitriosis and have since I was 11. It is highly unusual for someone to develop it that young, and when they do, they usually outgrow it, through their teenage/early 20s. I haven't. To date I have had 7 laps, where they go in and burn the endomitriosis off, and countless D&Cs to remove the access tissue. I've also been on probably 50 or 60 different types of birth control pills, injections, patches and treatments in the last 10 years or so. My gynecologist, recently told me, as we were looking at a build up of tissue and rather large cyst, that the continual procedures, are really beginning to thin my uterus, and at this point, she really doubts that I will ever have a successful pregnancy, especially if things continue like they are. This is driving me crazy, I've known this my entire life. I've always accepted it. I've always assumed that I would adopt. However, suddenly, I want a baby. Like really badly. Even though I know all of the consequences, and I know how difficult it is to be a new mother. I have a huge family, and have been around and helped take care of babies for the majority of my life. I think this stems from two things. One, all of the literature I find while researching possible treatments, state that having a baby can often dramatically reduce the effects of endomitriosis, often completely stopping the growth of it, for many women. Also, I am engaged to a wonderful man, and he wants children. He is okay with adopting, he knows all of this about me. However, I want to make one, because it would be something from both of us. I know I sound crazy. Every time I try to talk to him or anyone else about this, they look at me as if I am crazy. Then, they remind me about my total lack of patience, all the things I still want to do, finishing law school, and how a baby could put a halt to all that. The problem is, I know all of this, and still have the incredibly strong urge to be pregnant, and have a baby. I know all the reasons I shouldn't have a baby right now. I've made list after list of all the reasons I shouldn't. None of it matters though, I cannot shake these emotions, and I suspect, they are caused by me having to face reality, more than anything. Sorry for the rant. I just wanted to give you a little back story, so you could maybe give me some advice. Are these feelings normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Any words of advice, or a good slap to bring me back to my senses is welcome. Please don't be rude though, this is very difficult. To all who read this, thank you so much for bearing with me. Thank you to all of those who answer. Cheers :) more

Resolved Question: Fertility drugs offered to younger women?

I've been trying to conceive for a pretty long time with no results. Almost 6 months now, going to be 7 because my pregnancy test came up negative once again yesterday. When I first started TTC with my husband I thought "Oh well this should be easy!" but its not at all. I know that I need to TTC for a year with no success for a doctor to consider giving us fertility treatments but I'm just wondering what kinds are offered for a couple of such a young age? I'm 22 and my husband is 24. Thanks (: more

Resolved Question: Moms of multiples: Did you dream about your multiples before you found out you were having them?

I'm 11 weeks along in my third pregnancy I have not had an ultrasound nor have they detected a heartbeat yet (next appt). I consider myself very intuitive with my pregnancies. With my previous two I knew right away what gender they were and even had a couple dreams per pregnancy confirming my suspicions. My husband was the same way. This time I'm completely thrown for the gender. Add to it I've had two dreams already of having twins. A boy and a girl. One dream they were out and I was caring for them, in the other dream I was giving birth to them. Both dreams were very vivid and real (I could "feel" contractions in my dream etc.). My husband is even thrown for the gender, the only dream he had about the new baby was a little baby dressed in yellow, all covered in yellow blankets so he couldn't see a face or hair (gender neutral). My 3 year old keeps telling me there are 2 babies in there, a boy and a girl (and we haven't discussed this with her previously). I think I'm going crazy, we have not had fertility treatments but twins do run in my father's family...not sure about my mother's side. So did you all have dreams about your multiples before you had them? Both of my dreams are consistent with the genders, always a boy and a girl. What do you think? Am I crazy? more

Voting Question: 21 weeks pregnant and outbreak of genital warts?

i am 21 weeks pregnant and have noticed that i've got an outbreak of genital warts in my vaginal area...i had them about 6 years ago, had them treated and now they appear to have made a comeback! at the moment i can only see two and they are relatively small and i'm checking on them regularly and they have not changed in size etc. I am seeing the midwife on Monday so will mention this to her then! i'm just freaking out, i'm going to the GUM clinic also to have them burnt off (treatment i had last time) and i informed them that i was pregant and they told its perfectly safe to have this done. i was just wondering if anyone has out an outbreak of warts and all has gone well with pregnancy/birth. thanks guys H xx more
