Pancreatitis Holistic Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: how many grams of chicken breast protein does my border collie/aus shepherd need daily?
she is 2.5 years old and weighs 40 pounds. i am cooking holistic for her can only find percentages instead of grams. she is having problems with dry food. i was cooking for her up till 1 1/2 months ago. all was going well till i switched her to dogfood, she has developed pancreatitis. when she was pup she had severe intestinal virus/infection. it wasn't parvo not sure what went wrong, she almost didn't make it home. took 3 blood transfusions and 6 days on i.v., she is a fighter. switched back to cooking, just trying to make sure she gets enough protien, so many different recommendations. i am overwhelmed. thank you all. moreResolved Question: Question for dog section regulars......please?
Legit: Whats your favorite herding breed The issue: I recieved a not so nice message from another user (I will not call them out) Saying that I am doing more harm to my dog than good because I won't feed him I/D which has corn in it and he can't tolerate corn. The fact that I am keeping him on a better quality diet that is low fat. Is causing him more harm and that I should listen to my vet because he has years of education. And that if my last vet was so great I'd still be using him (I would but we moved away) Here is what happens when my dog eats corn based foods, he breaks out and gets real itchy and he has issues breathing. Normally he just gets skin issues though. Do I think he has pancreatitis...I don't know he is 1 years old and I can't afford to get another opinion at the moment (but I've learned real quick not to trust this vets office) and I want more tests run (just not a cbc) I love my dog and I'm not going to let anything happen to my dog (which I why I won't feed him that food) I was accused of having to be right......How can I be right when I'm just trying to figure out what is going on. I don't want to be treating him for something when it could be something else. But I don't want to give him a food that hurts him. We've tried I/D twice with the same results So though I have been accused of not doing whats best for my dog I am. I am in contact with a nutrionist now and a holistic vet. (who also practices regular medicine) I am just doing the best I can for my boy with the resources I have. Thank you for your timeADD: I have considered 3 or 4 times in the last week to try the I/D again but I'm afraid to because of past experience moreVoting Question: Holistic dog food for dogs with pancreatitis?
help i need to no if thers a good holistic dog food for dogs with pancreatitis, i dont want to buy what the vets pushing , i want to stick with holisticthanks guys im gona try all those!i just found out hailos spot stew onley has 1.5% fat in it moreResolved Question: What is a good food to feed my dog?
I know everyone talks about how the cheaper stuff is crap. The problem is my dog likes the cheaper food and refused to eat the most expensive food we got for him which was Eagle Pack Holistic Select's (two different varieties... we got it for free from the store!). He is an American Eskimo. According to his vet he should lose a few pounds since the vet couldn't feel his ribs yet I can its just hard since Buddy has sooo much fur. Anyways, I would like to know what is a good dry dog food for my dog. He gets 1 meal a day of homemade dog food that my mother-in-law makes since it was formulated for her Eskie by the vet since her Eskie has pancreatitis. He likes it. It just consists of boiled rice, hamburger and peas and carrots. It seems to help his coat so we are going to keep him on it (he only gets a few tbsp of it warmed up in a dish). He also gets treats. I just want to know of some good dry dog food brands. NO Raw food diets please. moreResolved Question: Have you had a dog that has had pancreatitis? (Dog food question) I'm very nervous about this, please answer.?
My little 4-5lb maltese has had pancreatitis (a very bad case, with hemorrhaging) about 10 months ago. I recently switched our large great dane/lab mix to Blue Buffalo Large Breed dog food. My little guy won't even touch his own bowl now and is constantly stealing BB from the big dogs dish. He even digs through and picks out only the BB pieces, (we are only on day 3 of the transition). Tuffy (my maltese) was on Science Diet and that is all my vet recommends. He actually said stay away from Holistic foods because it's not worth taking the chance. So, I am wondering if there is something in the BB that can hurt Tuffy, with his history. Would too much protein, or anything? I live in a small town and everyone here recommends Science Diet, It's like the Fad food here. The trainer at Pet Smart only recommends the BB of the foods that they have. All the research made me feel this would be great for Blackie. I emailed the company but no one is in to respond until Monday. If you have had any experience with this disease please tell me what foods your dog is on. Do you or anyone you know uses Blue Buffalo with a dog with this history? (I actually asked this before but like an idiot I typed that Tuffy had had diverticulitis) moreResolved Question: My schnauzer had calcium oxalate stones and pancreatitis. This is what I did to help him..?
He had stones removed twice, the first time there were over 500 of them! And the calcium stones are the ones that surgery is your only choice. In addition to that he has had numerous pancreatitis attacks that resulted in overnight hospital stays and big bucks. All this time the vet had him on one prescription diet or another but he still wasn't improving. I researched Science Diet dog foods and needless to say I got quite an education. I took him off the Science crap and visited a holistic pet care expert and she told me to feed him Evangers Chicken & Rice canned food. I had him on this for a few months but read there weren't any probiotics in it and his stools were funky so I researched again for a dry food to mix with the canned and decided on Wellness Core Reduced Fat. I picked reduced fat because of his pancreatitis issue and the fact that the food was grainless & high quality. He's been eating this food for about 10 months now and guess what? Not only has he not had a panacreatitis attack since but his last urinalysis showed he was still producing crystals but a different kind that can be disolved with medication! I can't help but feel that changing his food is responsible. Ideally, no crystals would have been better but after what we've been through with my little dog I am SO HAPPY! I would rather him take a pill for the rest of his life than to endure the suffering he has been through in the past. I wanted to share this in case anyone else is having the same problem. Try it and see if it works for you. The best place to buy Evangers is on their website. It's way cheaper that way. Good Luck! moreResolved Question: Who is a good Cat vet in Portland?
I just moved to Portland, OR. I need a good vet for my 2 cats. One is 16 years old with High Blood Pressure and Kidney disease, and the other one is about 10, and was recently diagnosed with pancreatitis, but is doing well. I like vets that incorporate holistic medicine along with traditional. Thank you. morePancreatitis Holistic Links
