Chronic Treatment Questions and Answers

Open Question: I have chronic back pain and I'm looking into treatments to resolve it but...?

In the mean time the medication is a big issue with the doctor. What I'm prescribed just isn't working anymore and my doctor isn't budging he's almost on the verge of cutting me off because of me pushing for something stronger. I don't know what to do, how to work, how to live at this point, the medication is the only thing that helps. Does anyone know any doctors in the Lansing area that could help me with my medication concerns? more

Resolved Question: Is beer a realistic treatment for chronic alcoholism?

I've noticed over my 20 year drinking career that most major problems related to alcohol occur when hard liquor is involved. If I drink only beer, life stays under control. Also, people I've known who died or got into car wrecks because of alcohol... all were drinking liquor. Seems like professional counselors could legitimately recommend that a treatment program involve beer, but absolutely no liquor. more

Open Question: Use of Modafinil in the UK?

Has anyone here in the UK been prescribed Modafinil to overcome Chronic Fatigue syndrome (or M.E. or whatever it's called these days), or as an adjunctive drug to overcome fatigue associated with clinical depression? How have you coped with it? Please only respond if you have been prescribed this drug, I am not interested in opinionated people spouting on about 'alternative treatments' or remedies. more

Open Question: My deployed husband acting inappropriately online...?

We have a very close mutual friend and a week before he deployed i found texts he had sent to her and i confronted him since it was perverted and crossing the line. Apparently while he was deployed they chatted often on instant messenger. after 6 months, i found out that she had sent him naked pics and that he was constantly asking for more and just being perverted with his comments. since i have found out, he has stopped talking to her. however he lied for months about asking her for pictures, then finally admitted to asking for them often. we have been married 8 years and 3 kids, im assuming this happened because i couldn't "be there" for him. i work 50 hours per week, the kids, one is special needs and one has a chronic medical condition that keeps be busy with dr appts and treatments. he is begging for me to forgive him and move on, however i am so angry, hurt and disgusted. i honestly feel that i can never trust him and we can never share that bond we once had. a part of me doesn't want to, in fear of getting hurt again. i really don't know what to do, we have a counseling sessionn tomorrow though. i really hate the way i feel towards him, i do not like being consumed with hatred and pain all the time. any ideas? anyone been through something like this? i asked why he did this, he said that he was just being stupid ad selfish and he wanted to see what he could get away with. Also, whenever i talk about divorce, or not forgiving him etc.. he acts so depressed. i hate seeing him in tears and hurt but then i just think about how much he hurt me too... but i know he is sincere in his apologies and i truly dont think he would let this happen again but i just cant seem to forgive him?thank you guys so much for your responses. oh, and to clarify... her and i aren't friends anymore... no way in hell! thank you all again! i truly appreciate your input! more

Voting Question: Can a non-resident of Canada receive medical care for a chronic illness?

I'm friends with a young Japanese-Italian man living in Japan (Italian citizenship) who's suffering from holes in his heart and a host of related health problems. He's had several surgeries in Japan, including a recent one which had some of the holes patched up, but we're right now seeing if he can get medical treatment in Canada or the U.S. I know that Canada has many non-resident/citizen kids come from abroad to receive treatment, but is it plausible for my friend to undergo surgery in Canada? We're aware that he might not be able to qualify for healthcare like a citizen might, so we're working on fundraising in his name. Any thoughts? more

Resolved Question: THIS IS MY COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY, IS IT READY TO BE SENT TO COLLEGES?

I would like to share with you something about my current medical situation. Ordinarily I would not do so, as I am an intensely private person, but I now accept that my physical limitations have quite possibly impacted my high school performance in a negative manner, and I feel that it is only fair that you have this information. Therefore, I am reluctantly going to allow access to information that I would never, otherwise, speak of. For the past several years, I have been afflicted by a physical situation that has sometimes interfered with my ability to focus, both in the classroom and out. I do not wish to be too specific about the symptoms of my disease, except to say that they are digestive in nature and sometimes require me to spend long periods of time in the Mens Room. Despite my terrible discomfort, I refused to accept that there might be something wrong with me, and would not seek treatment. I know now that I should have been less determined to suffer in silence and more willing to accept help. Finally, my parents insisted on bringing the matter to the attention of a physician. I was tested, over a period of several weeks, for colon cancer, Crohn’s Disease, intestinal obstructions, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, Heliocobacter pylori (commonly known as ulcer), celiac sprue (commonly known as wheat allergy), lactose intolerance, gallstones, bile duct stones, sclerosing cholangitis (the narrowing of the bile ducts), “Sphincter of Oddi” dysfunction and pancreatitis. You can imagine how relieved I was to learn that I had none of these terrible diseases. Finally, I received the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is sometimes known as spastic colon, nervous colon, nervous stomach, mucous colitis and spastic colitis, and is distinguished by abnormal bowel habits, such as diarrhea (loose stools), constipation or sometimes, as in my own case, both. It is well known to experts in this field that periods of stress can intensify the severity of IBS. I have certainly found my busy schedule of six honors/AP classes, Varsity field hockey, swimming and track teams, performing lead roles in three consecutive Spring Musicals, volunteering at the local animal shelter, tutoring at-risk children, and working three evenings a week plus all day Saturday at The Gap to be, at times, stressful, but of course it is impossible to say what has caused me to be afflicted with this very horrible syndrome. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS or spastic colon) is a diagnosis of exclusion. It is a functional bowel disorder characterized by chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits in the absence of any detectable organic cause.[1] In some cases, the symptoms are relieved by bowel movements.[2] Diarrhea or constipation may predominate, or they may alternate (classified as IBS-D, IBS-C or IBS-A, respectively). IBS may begin after an infection (post-infectious, IBS-PI), a stressful life event, or onset of maturity without any other medical indicators. Although there is no cure for IBS, there are treatments that attempt to relieve symptoms, including dietary adjustments, medication and psychological interventions. Patient education and a good doctor-patient relationship are also important. Several conditions may present as IBS including celiac disease, Fructose malabsorption,[3] mild infections, parasitic infections like giardiasis, several inflammatory bowel diseases, functional chronic constipation, and chronic functional abdominal pain. In IBS, routine clinical tests yield no abnormalities, though the bowels may be more sensitive to certain stimuli, such as balloon insufflation testing. The exact cause of IBS is unknown. The most common theory is that IBS is a disorder of the interaction between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, although there may also be abnormalities in the gut flora or the immune system. IBS does not lead to more serious conditions in most patients. But it is a source of chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms, and it increases a patient's medical costs, and contributes to work absenteeism. Researchers have reported that the high prevalence of IBS, in conjunction with increased costs produces a disease with a high societal cost. It is also regarded as a chronic illness and can dramatically affect the quality of a sufferer's life. In fact, doctors do not know what causes IBS, or why people who share my disease feel the need to have a bowel movement soon after eating, causing diarrhea, or why the prolonged spasm of the large intestine causes stool to stay in one area for too long and get dried out, resulting in small hard stools (constipation). As of today, palliative treatments are only in the experimental stage, and the hard truth is that there is no cure for IBS. It has been very difficult for me to accept this diagnosis at my young age more

Voting Question: What could be the cause of leukopenia and long-term illness?

About 2 and a half years ago I started to have headaches and overwhelming tiredness. I was sent for an MRI and everything appeared normal. A couple of months later I started to suffer from recurrent infections and illnesses. In the last 2 years I have had many infections including: Recurrent UTI's, kidney infection, recurrent uvulitis, ear infections, recurrent thrush, lymphadenitis and cellulitis (the last 2 requiring hospitalisation). I have also had lots of viruses, colds and flu symptoms. On a regular basis I suffer from migraines/headaches, aching limbs, neck, shoulders and backache, numbness in arms and hands, with loss of dexterity in the fingers, fatigue, skipped heart-beats and chest pain, 'brain fog' and occasional blurred vision, occasional low grade fever, and more recently muscle twitching, spasms and cramps. I eat a healthy diet although I am unable to exercise due to chronic pain. I have put on 2 stone in 2 years but this may be due to lack of exercise and my age - 40 years. I have also had bouts of depression, usually as a result of being so fed up of it all. I was referred to an Infectious Diseases Specialist about 18 months ago, and initially it was suggested possible CFS. She has run many blood tests to rule out things like thyroid, diabetes and HIV, and I have also had an ECG and cardiac scan. Although my blood tests are usually relatively normal (apart from when I am really ill), the one thing that does crop up almost every time is a low white blood cell count. Neutropenia and leukopenia have been noted on several occasions. I recently had another test and all was normal apart from a low absolute leukocyte count (normal range 1.5 - 4.......mine was 1.1). As yet I still don't have a diagnosis and I am really wanting some answers so that I can begin treatment or a cure. I am fed up of having so many illnesses and infections and feeling so damn ill all the time, and having no idea of the prognosis. Am I right in assuming that the reason I am always getting ill is because of the leukopenia? Or is the leukopenia a result of always being ill? Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the cause? Or any suggestions of a diagnosis? Or can you suggest or recommend any more tests? I would be very grateful for any assistance, thanks.I also suffer from a lot of sores, on my mouth and in my nose, and get lots of mouth ulcers. more

Resolved Question: If I win my claim against bwc, how much can I expect to earn?

Resolved Question: need help deciding a suitable career?

OK, so here's how it goes. My passion is definitely in the medical field. I love medicine, I love being able to diagnose and treat patients and honestly, I get grades that allow me to pursue a career in medicine. And when I say this I'm talking about becoming a doctor. One problem.... last year, i was diagnosed with a chronic incurable disease. The docs gave me steroids which only made it worse. I finally stopped using them and scoured the net for alternative ways to treat myself. I eventually came across what I needed to do to treat myself and it certainly didnt have anything to do with steroids. It was basically healing through proper nutrition and lifestyle. I basically treated myself and I'm doing so so so much better now. Also, I learnt so much about alternative ways to cure all sorts of diseases. This experience made me realise that orthodox medicine doesnt really have all the answers. In fact, it's often looking in the wrong direction and doing things that often harm patients more than help them. I now strongly disagree with several of the methods used in treating patients using orthodox medicine today. You would probably suggest being a nutritionist but no, that's not what I want. I strongly feel nutritionists don't see the whole picture either and there is far more to this than simple food consumption. It's a whole new and complicated science. I therefore feel it would be kinda risky to just jump into that. At the end of the day, I want to be earning pretty well don't I? I then considered doing biomedical sciences as it would enable me to do research and therefore allow me to suggest and contribute other forms of treatment for a particular patient. But then I realised that at then end of the day, I still want to be someone who is dealing with patients and their diseases. I want to cure patients. I want to be a doctor. Just not one who practises orthodox medicine or at least one who can incorporate a lot of other forms of treatment. please please help. more

Voting Question: Severe Pain and Suicidal Ideation?

I am a 17 year old male from Australia. I have been diagnosed with chronic epididymitis of my right testicle and have been going through the pain for 4 months now. I also suffer from major depression, panic disorder and borderline personality disorder. I am on escitalopram 20mg for these disorders. Over the past 2 weeks, I am becoming extremely depressed, stressed, agitated, sleepless and in immense pain, like you have no idea. Imagine having your right testicle grabbed and squeezed, HARD, 24/7. I have been through various treatment options, from multiple antibiotics, neuropathic pain medication and narcotic opoid painkillers and no progress has been made. I started out with panadeine forte as well as nurofen plus, then tramadol and tramadol SR, then morphine, then oxycodone, then hydromorphone. A month ago I was cut off all of my pain killers and been given panadeine forte again and a TCA for neuropathic pain called amitriptyline. I am back in the immense pain again and nobody will give me anything for it and I am starting to lose faith. I have tried to committ suicide twice in the past week and have failed and I can no longer go on like this. I have called many suicide hotlines and they have gotten me through the night but the next day I am fucked again. I start getting angry and feel like I am going to snap and have a nervous breakdown and hurt someone along with it. I feel that if I cannot be back on something that actually stopped the pain such as that oxycodone or hydromorphone, I am going to end my life. I can no longer stand this pain, it's only been 4 months but imagine having it every hour of every day. Not sleeping. Not wanting to eat. Not leaving the house. I need your advice on what my actions should be tomorrow towards my doctor. I do not want to go into a psychiatric clinic as I have been to every single public and private ward in my city, I have an appointment with urology in a months time and I just need to get through that time till I see the specialist. Please, if anyone has anything to say that could help me persuade my doctor to help me, please please tell me. more

Voting Question: Do you reckon there is a cure for AIDs out there, but withheld for the sake of profiteering?

Hi, maybe my cynical view of capitalism and particularly the pharmaceutical companies. But it seems to me that there has been very real cures in the last 50years, but a great deal of expensive treatments for various pre-existing and imagined viruses, treatments and syndromes, (ADHD, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, etc. etc.) It is simply unprofitable for pharmaceutical companies to develop cures, because they only provide a one-off profit; as opposed to various treatments that guarantee an endless capital. For me, I am fairly sure that there are cures for various viruses and diseases that are being withheld because it would unprofitable for pharmaceutical companies to release them - despite the immorality of it all. It also hides the real causes of many diseases and problems - that is: poverty, inequality and discrimination. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Accommodative spasm (possible?)?

Is there any form of 'chronic' accommodative spasm? And/or chronic spasm of the muscles that control the eye? Caused by things like 8-12 hours of daily computer use with high amounts of reading for 10+ years? Basically induced by repetitive strain and a fixed focus length and so on. I read about such spasm that is temporary and relieved with sleep, and so on.. but I was wondering if it was possible for a chronic form to present if given enough eye strain/stress over a decade or so. If so, could you explain what is going on, on whatever level you actually understand it? Further what are some of the treatments for such spasm, quiver, cramping, or other muscle problems. I read some abstracts that mentioned some cases (rare) that resolved only with the use of cycloplegic drops nightly for a period of 5-6 weeks before the 'spasm' as they called it, finally resolved itself. Thanks, more

Resolved Question: I desperately need health insurance but can't afford it from work any suggestions? HELP!!?

I am 24, live in FL, support myself and lost health coverage under the government when I turned 21. Health insurance is offered through my job but I cannot afford the $40 a week for barely any coverage. I'm having chronic kidney problems along with other ongoing aliments (major digestive, stress problems) and the clinic doctor has told me there is nothing more they can do besides treat with antibiotics. He said I need a specialist and need insurance to be seen (he even suggested marriage as a way to obtain insurance!). The ER does the same, write an antibiotic and send me on my way. I have no idea where to look for help and I need advice. I'm so frustrated and heartbroken at this epidemic with young adults not having access to (or unable to afford) doctors and treatments to ensure our health and our future. I don't want to be on my death bed before a health professional is willing to help me! Please! Where do I start or look for health coverage I can afford? Resolved Question: Do employers get access to my medical records?

I've had chronic major depression for about 5 years. a good family friend was telling me not to seek psychiatric help because the diagnoses/treatment will go on my medical record, which employers are apparently increasing their access to via background checks. she said she had to pass a mental health clearance. is this true? and are they requiring more clearances for mental health these days? I'm in college and haven't had trouble with campus jobs but it could be a different ballpark after graduation. I thought there was a federal disability act saying an employer can't request medical records prior to employment. and if they do after employment, it's only to test for the physical capacities to do the job. more

Resolved Question: I need help with chronic daily headaches!! I don't know what to do anymore!!?

I just had sinus surgery 2 weeks ago in hopes it would help, I don't think it has. There has to be someone out there who has a similar problem that could possibly help?? Thank you everyone! more

Voting Question: Hair loss and fake hair?

Hi, for the past several years I have been having severe hair loss due to a chronic disease that I have. As any of you can imagine, for a women to lose her hair before 30 is completely terrifying, not to mention embarrassing. Thankfully I have not lost all of it and it is just thinner. However, recently I have been starting to think you can see my scalp. My hair used to be one of better features so that is why this scares me so much. Can any of you tell me if salons have a treatments where they can put fake hair onto your scalp? It would be kind of like extensions, except it would thicken the hair also. Any info on this would be helpful if it even exists. Thanks to everyone who answers. more

My daughter is only 3 years old. She got a really bad cold and cough, the whole family did, hers a little worse, we took her to the doctor for a check up, and he said she has a chronic cough, and maybe astma. I got worried because she was sick the she cough and cough and it sounded like she could not breath, the doctor prescribed albuterol, steroid, a home machine inhanler, and two other different inhalers, After giving her the prescribed items, my daughter statred vomitting non-stop, became extremley weak, tired, drowsy, under her eyes deep circles, extremley fuzzy...and not acting normal at all. I honestly did not see the need for all the prescribed medication, all she has is a common cold/cough. she did not have breathing problems. I seen another doctor for a second opinion and he agreed with me there was no need for her to stay on al the medication the 1st doc prescribed. Voting Question: Some questions about Malaria?

I'm writing a short story, and have some questions about Malaria. I read that Malaria was chronic -- if someone got Malaria in the 1970s, would they still be having re-occurances etc. now? Would it be curable now with the advances in medicine? Any info would help. Thank you very much. :) Also, I live in the UK, so this question is orientated towards UK medicine and treatment specifically. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Boric acid vaginal capsules? 10 points guaranteed to best answer?

I have chronic bacterial vaginosis. My gynecologist has given me a prescription for boric acid capsules, to be inserted vaginally twice a day. The pharmacist was unable to tell me any information and now my doctor's office is closed... My questions are... Am I supposed to lay down after I've inserted one? If so, how long? Can I still have sex with my hubby while using this treatment? Last question...sorry if TMI but I have just had IUD removed (which may be the cause of my troubles) and am now using the sponge. If I were to have sex while using this treatment, is it ok for me to be using the sponge? If anyone can answer any of my questions, or point me in a helpful direction, I would greatly appreciate it. I have been through so much with this BV, and bad doctors, the works. I just want it to be over, and I don't want to screw up this treatment which might end my suffering. Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: My husband refuses to believe he has cancer?

My husband was diagnosed with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia two months ago. He handled the news relatively well at first, but now I'm convinced he's losing his mind. He outright refuses to even consider any treatment options and seems entirely convinced that there is no cancer at all. He's cooked up a crazy conspiracy theory that his cancer diagnosis was an elaborate hoax perpetrated by his ex-wife and her new husband involving forged test results and actors posing as doctors. I tried to reason with him but he's completely absorbed in his insane fantasy world. I don't think he's even slept in four days. Has anybody else experienced this? Please help. I'm beginning to lose control of the situation. more

Resolved Question: Can my Dr. at Kaiser give me an RX for medical marijuana?

I have heard you need to go see a Dr. at a clinic to get a RX,but since my Dr. just took me off vicodin,is she even able to do that or do you have to go to a special clinic for evaluation? And if so,how would they know about my prior chronic neck pain and the treatments my regualr Dr. has given me. This is a last resort and I will need something for pain, better than pain pills. And I'm afraid to ask my Dr. about it,cuz I dont know if a big Company like Kaiser does that sort of thing, she might think I'm a drug addict! more

Voting Question: Should I be upset if a person who I hae dated for three years backs out of a trip ?

A woman I have been dating planned a trip back in May however we could not go because of a work committment. At that time there was some hard feelings which resulted in the "don't forget about me" line. So to compromise we took a smaller trip. We then made plans in May to go on the trip in July. Even going so far as to look for hotel rooms and with me planning a surprise for her on the trip. Now over the past three years she has complained of a chronic pain in her shoulder and she has seen a specialist for this and they have decided to perform surgery. Well after looking at rooms on Monday I bought tickets for a few events for the trip. Now today I am informed she just checked her voicemail and the doctor is going to schedule her for surgery eventhough she is not sure when. Well now I have already purchased the tickets which she wants to pay me back for. My ultimate question is am I being to un sympathetic by saying that if the doctor hasn't scheduled the surgery yet then why can't she postpone the surgery until we have taken the trip. Personally I can't see why the doctor's phone call and impending surgery would change our plans. I just feel like all the options were not considered on her part and the surgery became a way out of the committment. I will say that the shoulder has been an issue for years but without a clear cut date is it right for me to be pissed. Also remember when I couldnt go for work I got the don't forget about me line used so although it may seem petty I feel I should be afforded the same treatment back. Guess I feel as though since I bought tickets she should feel obligated to go. more

Resolved Question: How to clean my old doggie's eyes?

I have an old (eleven years) dog, who suffers from chronic eye infections the past couple years. I gently clean them with a very soft toothbrush, warm water, and dish detergent, and it works but the oozing pus returns over the course of the following two months before I give him his next bath. Being unemployed, I can't afford to take him to the veterinarian for treatment. I just spent four months in the hospital, and came home to find that his eyes are shut solid, the pus having dried so that his eyelids are now like hard shells over his eyes. I want to dissolve the dried pus and wash it gently away, but I am afraid to do it and cause him pain or serious injury. How can I clean and open his eyeids again? Thanx, Yahoo animal lovers! more

Voting Question: Anyone use a~ O Point Energy Wand like I do?

I bought a o energy wand looks like silver pen you spin it near the part of the body that needs treatment. The wand increased energy levels, raised immune systems, improve bowel movements and absorb cellula. Product Description-The Wand is a cutting-edge tool that serves to expedite a healing process which restores the body to wholeness. It catalyses an unblocking of the flow of energy, enabling cohesive bodily functions and boosting immunity, which in turn affords protection from disease and infection. What is Zero Point Energy? "The infinite, formless, non-frequency energy that contains all potential in the cosmic quantum vacuum."What is in the Wand? Zero point energy is harnessed within the Wand using an innovative technology that enables ionisation and bonding of specifically-chosen minerals. This process embeds the resonance of chi into the wand, which can then act as a frequency stimulus to the body's genetic base code. How does it work? The Wand's zero point impetus facilitates a return to harmony and balance in the body's bio-fields. Once such energetic balance is restored, the physical body will begin to adjust accordingly, and rid itself of the cause of dis-ease, previously manifested as illness. In short, the wand works as an energetic instruction booklet, the contents of which are picked up and interpreted by the DNA of the body. The DNA then begins a cellular restoration process leading to self-healing, equilibrium, and integrity. The Wand has a proven track record in aiding the treatment of: Chronic pain - Arthritis - Back pain - Migraines - Headaches - Poor Circulation - Infections - Injuries - Sleep problems - Sore muscles - Indigestion - Swelling - Allergies - Depression - Lethargy - Skin conditions - Period pain It can be used on the face and body to rejuvenate the skin, to oxygenate the blood, and can energize creams and oils for better absorption. The Wand can also be used to enliven and fortify food, to prime water, to energize plants, and to innervate the general environment in which we live.I have no problem. I just wanted better results. That is why I posted this. The ad shows an old women pain going in minutes from the wand. I was told by the person I got it from to do it 15 minutes a day 3X a day. My arm gets tired doing it so long.I am looking for people who own this like I do. Not people telling me to go to other webs. Jane from NYC more

Resolved Question: Horseback riding after hip replacement?

I am a 53 year-old woman, in good health, and I am a dedicated dressage rider with chronic bursitis in both hips. The bursitis is the result of degeneration of the hip socket. None of this was caused by my riding. If I stop riding, like I did when my horse was off work for four weeks because of a injury, the pain and inflammation in my hips does not improve. So far, the only treatment that has helped is cortisone injections into the bursa, but the relief only lasts about 10 days. I can't continue cortisone shots indefinitely. I am exploring the option of hip replacement as a long-term fix, but if I wouldn't be permitted to ride again after the surgery, I don't think I'd want to do it. Know anyone who's doing regular (3-4 times per week) riding after hip replacement surgery? more

Resolved Question: Why don't self help books mention people suffering from clinical anxiety and depression?

A lot of people don't buy into self help books, and a lot of people do. If you do, the self help books almost never mention how their principals apply to people who have medically diagnosed depression and anxiety. For example, if there is a such thing as the Law of Attraction (that if you think good thoughts about a specific area of your life, good things will happen in that area) (and I think there is something to self help books, but I wouldn't take it into the realm of religious experience like some people do), the thoughts you think determine or greatly influence the outcomes in your life. If someone has clinical depression or anxiety due to a chemical or hormonal imbalance in their body, no amount of willing or choosing will get them out of their hopeless cycle of thinking until they get help and medical treatment. For people that have trouble responding to medical, thought therapy often helps, but these people also seem to stay in a sense of hopelessness if they don't respond to medicine, so would the law of attraction not attract disaster to them because they can't sustain negative thinking? I've noticed that people with these conditions seems to have more problems in other areas of their life not always directly related to their mental state, even if they have supportive family and friends. Does anyone have any theories on this? Are people with chronic anxiety and depression cursed to live in poverty, sickness, and misery? Any genuine feedback is appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Im in so much pain, I cant take it anymore?

Before you accuse me of becoming an addict, let me tell you my story. I'm 18 years old. When I was 16, I was in an accident working on a house, because of someone else's carelessness. A heavy board was dropped on my back. For 2 years, I have been suffering in constant pain. I have nerve, muscle and tissue damage in my back. I have tried every treatment- physical therapy, chiropractor, acupuncture, massages and b12 injections. I can't live with this chronic pain any longer. I can't function anymore and it's so emotionally and physically draining. My back hurts so bad. I've had suicidal thoughts because I just cannot take this pain anymore. None of my doctors will give me painkillers because they think I will become addicted. Maybe I will. But they just don't understand how bad this pain is. I can't deal with it anymore and I'm at the end of my rope. How can I convince my doctor to give me painkillers?? Advil does not work or help. The pain is so severe, there's nothing my specialist can do for me anymore. Oh and I also go to counseling. People just don't understand. I'd risk becoming addicted to painkillers if it meant being painfree. I just can't live in constant pain forever. There's no way.How can I convince my doctor to give me painkillers?? how about you read the whole thing? more

Voting Question: Lyme disease Treatment question?

I just started treatment for chronic Lyme disease about 2 months ago, and i have had it for 2 or 3 years. I am in high school so my mom is mostly the one who talks to the doctor about it, but i think my treatment is completly messed up.. Doctor has me taking 26 different pills a day, which seems really crazy, but she also has me on and over-the-top diet with no gluten or dairy. I have been told that the treatment takes 6 months or more, and that i will NEVER be able to eat normal food again because they would cause the Lymes to come back... But my dad (divorced parents) says that my doc is saying that cause my mom told her i have food sensitivites. I don't! I can eat anything without feeling sick, but my mom believes in her healthy non dairy gluten free life style, so is she (and my doctor) just minipulating me into living healthier?? more

Resolved Question: Question about VA Pain Management?

I have recently received a medical discharge from the military for chronic pain in the groin area. It was due to a hernia surgery that went wrong while in the Army. While in the service I was placed in a pain management program and was extended for 6 months of treatment after my discharge. Now my time has run out and I have to go to the VA, my first appointment was this past Monday. After explaining to the Dr. what I've been going through and that my medication I've taken for the past 2 years (oxycontin and percocet10). He says the VA has neither one of these drugs and I would have to be switched to morphine. Fine, whatever as long as it works right? Well they tell me I should receive my meds in 48 hours. After 72 I call the VA pharmacy to be told that it was never put in the system and I need to go talk to the doctor to get this resolved. If he forgot to put this in after telling me to stop taking the remainder of my last perscription can I do anything? SUE, PATIENT ADVOCATES, ETC...... Also is there a way for me to get the VA to pay for me to go back to my old doctor, this is my first experience with the VA and I'm not very happy at all. I know they suck but it's all I have considering I can't work. What should I or can I do?Your idea of paying for it would be fine if I had substantial income. I'm jobless because of this condition. My pain specialist tried several nerve blocks, ganglion impare procedures, and suggested a spinal cord stimulator which this same doctor told me to forget about. more
