Resolved Question: help me help a friend?

I am trying to help an old friend to get back to life. He is 50yo. He had many health problems: 11 tromboses (and still alive!?), chronic pancreatis, chronic alcooholism, hips replacement and more... After years of silence, he called me for help, to "fix his computer". I was horrified: He had boths legs covered with scabs and some form of "exema" (?). I learned that he has been in his appartment, alone, for YEARS, incapable of moving. I managed to help in reducing his Vodka intake from 5 bottles A DAY to one in the last two months (and still going down). I got rid of his excema, and he has now clean legs. The problem is that he does not EAT, and can't get better without any food intake. Don't tell me "send him to hospital": He is a "Viking". No fears, no hospital, no doctors, no nurses! (He was taken a few times to hospital and "escaped" with the first available taxi!) My question: Since I have solved some of the problems, what is my next step in getting him to EAT, to put some "meat" on his skeleton body? He can walk in his appartment, but suffers dizziness (lack of food and NOT drunkenness!)Dane: I am no pro. But I am a fine psychologist! I am using his Harley Davidson image to intice him to drink less, and HE WILL! My bet is 2 months, and he wil ride again IF I can get some food in him! All doctors, up to now, have FAILED!The guy does not want doctors, nurses or hospital. He needs FRIENDS. And, preferably, friends who can lead him to recovery. Voting Question: Why can't I find a doctor to help me?

I have been suffering from chronic pancreatis for some time. Where I used to live I went to a pain clinic who worked together with my doctor for pain management. I was given Methadone and Vicodin as rescue medicine. The medication, which I so hard resisted to take, made a big difference in the quality of life that I was having. Two years ago I moved to PR where none of the medications I was taken were available. I was put on percocet, a terrible medicine which cut my quality of life in less than half. As my pancreas showed signs to get worse, I decided to come back to the states hoping to get better treatment. I am here now and have been for a week. I brought all my medical records, bottles, etc. I have spent two days trying to find a doctor or pain clinic that will prescribe my medication. Noone would help me. They all refused, even with my medical records. I am almost out of meds and don't know what to do. Does anyone know a Doctor in Phoenix or can give me some advise before I loose my job and have to drop off from school where I am shy of only 21 credits to complete my Bachelor? I cannot get out of bed, let alone study or do anything with this pain. Thank you for any suggestions you may have. more

Resolved Question: How long can someone live with Pancreas?

i am a sufferer of chronic pancreatitis,i was 12 when the pain started. They did tests and ultrasounds and said there was nothing wrong with me,came home from the docs in alot of pain!!! finally when i was 14 years old i had a bad attack of pancreatis,,!!it went away ,than i got sick again when i was 17 and ended up going to toronto ontario ,to seek further help! They found a gallstone stuck in my bile duct after that many years i had gullbladder problems,they fixed my bile duct and took out my gullbladder in 1998.I am still having pancread problems and i am 32 years old now,i dont drink alcohol,,i got sick again in april 2009 with pancreatits and it kept me int he hospital for a week,the doctor said my bile duct is deformed and stuff,im scared,how long can someone live like that???? more

What should I expect. I was told they evaluate the conditions of my knee and back. I have had 2 back surgeries over 20 years. Resolved Question: Have you ever used a Fiber supplement for your dog with chronic loose stools/diarrhea?

My dog does great on pumpkin but I found a dog food supplement that also provides soluble fiber called "Medi Bulk". I was thinking about giving it a try to help control his VERY sensitive stomach. He gets stools that are really soft, then loose stools and diarrhea. Not squirting. He does not have IBS, pancreatis, or any parasites. more

im a 19 year old male who dosent smoke or drink i keep getting pain in my upper left back just a bit under the shoulder and when i press on it it hurts also when its really bad i usually feel naseated i also have bowel problems i always feel like my movements are incomplete they however are not pale which i guess is good but still im just wondering is this acute or chronic pancreatis or possibly pancreatic cancer(which i hope its not) i also get pain in my left AND right shoulders sometimes more

I have tried medicine for it and it's not helped. My dr. has suggested putting stints in but doesn't know if that would help. Has anyone had pancreatis or know of anyone that has and what they are doing to help this problem. I sure would appreciate any answers I get. more

hi im 19 years old a male and i dont smoke or drink ive been experiencing pain in my left side for months now its in my left abdomen and it gets worse during eating my urine is medium colored but is kinda hot when it comes out my stools are fine they havent changed and my skin color hasent either neither has my appetite but i get pains in my left side and left shoulder in the back area sometimes my middle back hurts too i dont wanna worry this is pancreatic cancer but thats all thats in my mind right now ive had blood tests for sugar level and thyroid level all has come back fine ive also had scopes done for everything everything came back good im not sure whats going on but from what ive read on the net it couldbe due to a pancreatic or liver problem more

im 19 non smoker non drinker male symptoms are -pain in left abdomen that radiates to my side from time to time usually worse during meals -medium coloured urine thats hot and burns -stools are normal not clayed -pain in left shoulder at times -no lump from what i can feel i have had blood tests and i read somewhere CA-19 or something like that could be found if its pancreatic cancer also ur blood sugar levels would be not good but my blood tests came back normal ive also had an endoscopy and colonoscopy plus a scope down my wing wang and all tests have come back fine i have no clue what this is maybe ibs? but what ive been reading is its close to being my pancreas or liver more

Resolved Question: if you have your gall bladder removed... does your pancreas take over filtering for it?

my sister-in-law had her gall bladder out quite a few years ago. now she has chronic pancreatis . she said they can't take her pancreas out because she doesn't have a gall bladder. I know that you can live without a pancreas. more

Resolved Question: Re:Chronic Diarhea Cures?

I am in my mid 40s and for the past three weeks I have been suffering from reoccuring bouts of diarhea ,and I am not sure what the source of this is here are the possibilities a) My teenage daughter was vomitting three weeks ago for about a day and I may have caught an infection b) I am borderline type 2 diabetic diagnosed but have not been taking the insulin as my blood sugars are in limit, c)I was in a car crash three -four years ago and diagnosed as a latent carrier of MRSA like a staph infection caught in hospital my father in law keeps dropping in for visits and I am worried that he has it and does not know he has it as he goes to senior citizens home oftrm to visit his mother which is 96 and old folks home are breeding grounds for diseases. I am worried asd I read on web md that it could be three different things an infection, adiabetic complication or something like pancreatis which is almost fatal,chrons disease irritable bowel syndrome any ideas on what I should do, more

Resolved Question: Does Creon given for Pancreatis increase need for bigger insulin dose for a diabetic?

A chronic diabetic taking 20 units insulin daily had recently Pancreatis.He was prescribed Creon 1000 capsules.Although it helped Pancreatis, his post lunch blood glucose level shot up forcing him to double the insulin dose.His Doctor says ,it has nothing to do with intake of Creon. more

Resolved Question: Is there any known cure for chronic pancreatis? If so where do I find treatment?

So far I take narcotic pain medication, but that is just a cover up not a cure. Any information would be appreciated more
