Open Question: Having scope in the morning. Having other problems now, bring them up or no?

Im having a scope done tomorrow morning to figure out why food is not entering my stomach for hours after eating. Even after eating it stays in my stomach 12 + hours which makes me very sick. Anyways, I started having really horrible pain, right below my rib cage in the middle. Its becoming unbearable. I had Pancreatitis when I was 16 ( 6 years ago) and it was the most horrible experience Ive ever had. This pain is beginning to make me wonder if that is happening again. Would it be stupid to mention this to the Dr tomorrow before I have the scope done? I dont want him thinking Im stupid or something. What should I do? more

Voting Question: Why is my cat limping?

My cat became ill two weeks ago;he stopped eating and drinking and was vomiting. I took him to the vet and after a few tests they said they didn't know what was causing it and sent us home with some meds. Two days later he had no improvement so I took him back and they hospitalized him. Three days later I was able to pick him up but before I got there they called and told me he had developed a limp in his left back leg and that it was probably caused from his nausea meds. They changed his medication and told me that I should notice his limp improve after a couple days with it being gone in a week. It's been a week and I have seen no improvement at all. I took him back to the vet and they tested him for diabetes which came back negative and told me they suspected he had had an acute pancreatitis. They still insists that the meds caused his limp. After a week shouldn't they be out of his system? Should I take him to another vet? He doesn't seem to be in any pain but I'm worried something more is going on here, Honestly my first thought was that maybe they dropped him during a feeding( they had to force feed him) and hurt his leg. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks more

Voting Question: help to do peer review for my essay!!! Thankiess?

Help to grade my essay( peer review_ Okay I didnt do it in class but ineed someone to grade my paper on every of the categories below.. If you can please help me because the grade of the essay depends on this peer review too Ill post my essay and after it the peer review questions.. Any help would be very useful and appreciated!! :) thank you Here goes the essay----- Adults are increasingly concerned about teenagers drinking alcohol. They feel that children of such an age are too young to indulge in drinking. There is also a belief that there is a need to oppose American teenagers arguments that the legal drinking age should be lowered in the USA. Alcohol can, in certain circumstances be considered as harmful, and it's consumption should be limited especially by teenagers. Many young people drink due to peer pressure, and by copying friends who are already drinking. In my own opinion I do not feel that the legal drinking age should be lowered, rather maintained at it's present level but there should be more information available for students on the potential harm that excessive drinking can cause. Alcohol is considered by many to be categorised in the same way as drugs due to the adverse effects experienced by over indulgence . It can be harmful to certain of the body's organs, particularly the liver, and it can also adversely affect body growth, a fact not readily known by many teenagers. Drinking is often seen as a solution to problems and as a means to alleviate bad moods and depression. Unfortunately this is not a solution, since the problems will still be there afterwards and could become more serious. There are also drink related risks to one's health that include liver damage, pancreatitis, certain cancers, and literal shrinkage of the brain, all exacerbated by drinking alcohol at a young age. Another fact about drinking alcohol is that by drinking too much you may bring on a state of drunkenness, resulting in an inability to control yourself and a resultant loss of memory. Often people under the influence are unable to remember actions they may have taken whilst in that state. There are also the dangers of lack of inhibition that often foster violence and bad behaviour to those who are drunk, although teenagers often oppose this view since the lack of inhibition gives them false confidence and an unreal braveness that often leads to trouble. Excessive drinking, however, does not demonstrate how brave a person is, in fact the opposite showing a weak personality and a low measure of self esteem. The future depends on the young generation, and there is a risk that it could be damaged by underage drinking. Alcohol poisons our brain, and it slows reactions and is certain to affect school work. Many young adults who drink excessively, tend to drop out of school and thus damage their future prospects. This obviously affects their education, future prospects and employment opportunities and causes frustration. So, in conclusion, I strongly re-iterate that the legal drinking age should not be lowered, and as a resolution to alcohol related problems, I suggest that there should be far more education given to teenagers about the dangers that alcohol abuse can cause, but also about sensible drinking. Such programmes would assist greatly in curbing alcohol abuse amongst teenagers. Voting Question: Help to make my persuasive essay stronger?

I have to write a really good persuasive essay.. For your information I am a 10th grader and i take english two. Please help to correct the spelling and maybe find some evidence or facts to support my opinion just to make my essay stronger... Thank you Here goes the esssay----- Adults are increasingly concerned about the teenagers drinking alcohol. They feel that it is too early and teens are too young to do so. They believe that something should be done about itwhen american teenagers have argued that the drinking age should be liwered in the USA. Alcohol is very harmful for our orgamnisms. And people should not be drinking it, especially teengagers. Some teens decide to do so, lookinf at what everyone is doing and some of them can’t say “no” to their friends. I honestly don’t think that the drinking age should be lowered, more, I think there should be more information for students how halmful this substance is. As it is known, alcohol is considered as a drug and it can chamge the way you feel . It is very harmful for our organs and it can also affect out body growth badly. A lot of teens are not familiar with that. Some of them drink because they think that itit would make them feel better, that it could make their problems go away. But it obviously is not a solution. The problems can get more serious and the person can develop risk that include liver damage, pancreatitis, certain cancers, and literal shrinkage of the brain while they are young. Another fact about drinking alcohol is, after you get drunk , you might not be able to control yourself. It influences the brain's ability to form memories, making memories before a drink stronger and memories of things that happen while under the influence weaker. It could be very dangerous for people who are around this person, because he can get mad easily and also would not be able to control himself. Teenagers usuallly oppose that, saying that it helps them to get brave sometimes achieve the respect of the friends. But it is very wrong. It does nit show how brave the person is. It shows how weak the personality is and how low his self esteem is. The future depends on the young generation and there is a risk that there could be many people drinking it. It poisons our brain, and it slows up the brain work. Drinking alchohol definitely affects the school work. A lot of young adults who drink, tend to drop out of school and loose temselves in future. They woon’r have any education, no any plans or ideas about what to do next. This is really frustrating. So, in conclusion, I storngly say that drinking age should not be lowered, but as a reaolutin to the drinking problems, I suggest to introduce as many programs about alcohol that can acknowledge students about its harm. It would definatelu get the teenagers back on curb. more

Resolved Question: Undergoing an ERCP procedure: Yes or No?

I am 28 and have a history of abdominal pain. 2 Years ago I was taking birth control pills but had to quit because I was developing pancreatitis, although I never got to the point of having an actual attack. After I quit the pill I got pregnant (Duh!) 3 months later and my son is now 10 months old. During that time I was pain-free and had an IUD with no hormones. I don't drink or smoke. I do hit the fast food places a little more often than I should not and every now and then I got mild discomfort on the same area. I weight 148 pounds. Well, last month I had a cold and took Tylenol Multi-symptom twice a day for about a week, and after that my IUD was coming out of my cervix and I had to take a Plan B double pill (those have about 10 times the amount of a reg. birth control pill) to avoid another pregnancy now. My period started off time and I got mild to moderate pain on my left abdominal side with nausea, vomit and dhiarrea. X-rays and ultrasound showed uncomplicated pancreatitis, no gallstones. Dr. ordered to take Nexium and see a GI. GI ordered MRCP a few days later which showed also no gallstones, good liver, and decreased inflamation, etc. blood tests before and after the situation showed a bit higher than normal levels of amylase, lypase, and sugar; days after fat-free, sugar-free diet, levels back to normal. My period is over and I feel the pain is starting to subside slowly each day. I am sticking with lots of fluids, fruits, vitamins, veggies, wheat products and no alcohol, dairy, fried foods or lipids whatsoever. I am going to see the dr. back on Thursday. Given my history and the risks that ERCP has... should I go for it or rather wait and stick with a non-fat diet and no drugs that can hurt my tummy?? Too many stories of ERCP gone bad... more

Resolved Question: Do I have pancreatitis or something else?

There have been a couple incidents recently where I've woken up early in the morning with severe pain in my upper right chest/back area. The pain lasts for hours and I noticed that both came after eating spicey foods just before bed the night before (not smart on my part, I know). I'm wondering if this could be pancreatitis or something else. There have been times after eating larger meals where I feel some soreness in my right upper abdomen but these two incidents are nothing like that. The pain was very hard to deal with and almost had me wanting to go to the emergency room. I'm not sure if I have a low pain tolerance or if it really was that bad. Can anyone help? more

Resolved Question: Can you still get pancreatitis after having your gallbladder removed?

In July, I was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I was told at the er that it was brought on by infected gallstones. They treated me for pancreatitis with an iv for 3 days, and then performed the surgery. Now 6 months later, here I am with the SAME EXACT PAIN that made me go to the ER in the first place... I feel nauseated and there is a pain in my back as well. What are the odds that I have pancreatis again? more

Resolved Question: Slightly elevated pancreatic enzymes?

I got blood tests about a week ago and the tests came back with my lipase and amylase 3 points above the normal cutoff. I've been having some stomach pains that wake me up at night sometimes but it doesn't seem to be anything overly serious. The doctor said pancreatitis but after all the hoops he's made me go through I'm not so sure I believe him anymore. Shouldn't I be in the hospital if it's pancreatitis? Could it be stress causing this? It seems like I feel much less pain when I meditate before bed. I am not going to lie. I'm worried about pancreatic cancer, but I am only 22 years old and it seems unlikely. The doctor said pancreatitis is the only reason my enzymes are slightly raised like this. I was hoping to get someone's opinion on this, as I have been through the ringer. He hasn't done any real diagnostic testing on me at all. Just the blood test. First he said it was gastritis, then he said it was an ulcer, but I tested negative for H.Pylori and I'm pissed because I'm tired of seeing my stupid doctor. I've been there six times in the last two months. By the way the normal cutoff of "high" for these enzymes is 160, and I was at 163.LOL Diabetes. That is ridiculous. My grandmother had diabetes. That is NOT what this is. I was wondering about gallstones. I just don't get how it could be pancreatitis. I wasn't sent to the hospital and my pain was never so bad I felt like I needed to go to the hospital. I never developed a fever, and my pulse never soared above normal. I am soooo confuuuuused....That and it's been going on for several weeks. The pain seems to have gone away for the time being, but I would wake up at night with either pain that felt like I'd been punched in the gut (Not too horrible, however) or with reflux. Both prevented me from sleeping, but I just...I don't get it. If it comes back, I will be going back to the doctor. I know it isn't from alcohol because I've only ever drank lightly (1-3 beers a week). I also HAD a beer in the midst of all this mess and it neither added to nor caused any problems. The more I meditate and the less stress I'm under the less I hurt. Thank you for your answers. more

Resolved Question: My dog is sick with abdominal pains. What might it be?

My dog (a little chihuahua X)came down sick Wednesday evening. I noticed earlier that afternoon he was acting a little funny by laying in my other dog's crate...which is odd because he hates crates. Anyway, I went to feed all the dogs a couple hours later(there's 4 total in the house), and noticed that he didn't want to eat, so I heated up a little wet food for him, which he ate. At this point I felt his stomach and noticed it was REALLY hard and tight and he seemed quite under the weather (his tail was down, and he usually has a tail that curls over his back). I was so concerned with how tight and hard his stomach felt that I brought him to the emergency vet within a half hour of noticing this. There were 2 critical cases ahead of us and one doctor, so we ended up waiting 2 hours before my dog was even seen. All the emergency vet did was feel him and take x rays. He said his stomach felt normal (even after I stressed that it wasn't normal for my dog). The vet said everything looked normal on the x ray--no twisting or sign of bloat, but that there was a lot of food in his stomach (and I hadn't fed him much that evening before taking him). That vet put him on metoclopramide, and sent us home. Noticing that he wasn't getting any better, I brought him to my regular vet (with the ok from the emergency vet) yesterday, before the holiday weekend. The regular vet gave him subcutaneous fluids, took more xrays, ran a blood work panel and a snap test for pancreatitis. I showed my regular vet the x rays from the emergency vet, and he said that in one of them, some of my dog's organs were kind of squished up almost into his ribcage and his stomach size was borderline normal, but enlarged. In the x ray taken yesterday, his organs appeared normal, and his stomach was at a normal size again--but the lining was quite a bit thicker than normal. The blood work panel came back normal all around and the pancreatitis test was negative. They told me he had an inflamed digestive tract, but they didn't know what was causing it, so they told me to finish the two day metoclopramide from the emergency vet and give him and bland diet (hamburger and rice) and wait a couple days and see. He seems really listless, just sleeping on the couch or in a crate all day unless it's time to eat or someone comes to the door (in which case he'll do a subdued alarm bark). He doesn't seem to be drinking on his own, so I've been giving him some broth (a tiny bit of wet dog food + water) which he'll drink. His bowel movements have been at normal intervals and of regular consistency, although not nearly as big or as much as normal (think the thickness of earthworms, instead of the normal thickness which is the diameter of a nickel<<sorry bad analogy, but you get the point?). His belly continues to be really tense and painful. About an hour ago though, he passed some diarrhea (?). My grandma let him out in the back yard when I was getting out of the shower. She said it poured out of him. I checked it out a few minutes later, and it was nearly all mucus with what I think appear to be tiny pebbles of fully formed stool. I don't think he got into anything. He was only alone for one hour the day he became ill and he isn't the kind of dog to get into anything. The only thing I can think of is that a few days ago I saw there was a recall on cow hooves for salmonella concerns. My dogs got their first cow hooves a few weeks ago. I also started thinking and I realized that just last week I gave them all raw marrow bones that I got from the grocery store. I usually pick them up after a few hours, but this time there was one that didn't get eaten and sat out for a day. But if it were either of those two things, wouldn't the other three dogs be sick as well? I also work at a dog boarding kennel and this dog is one of two I bring to work with me, so illness from other dogs is also a possibility. Please keep in mind--this isn't just a minor digestive upset. I see minor upsets all the time at work, and this is not that. My dog is in a lot of physical pain as well. What I'd like to know is: what do you think is the cause my dog's inflamed stomach and digestive tract? I'd just like some input so I can keep an open mind about the cause of his illness and present some possibilities to the vet if he doesn't improve over the weekend. Thank you so much!He improved greatly Sunday and Monday, then was as worse as he was when this all started, last week. My vet ran a parasite screen yesterday just in case and everything was negative. They put him on an antibiotic as a precaution yesterday. Trying to get an appointment to see an internal medicine specialist. I'd still appreciate any ideas. Thanks again more

Resolved Question: I quit drinking almost a month ago, when will these feelings stop?

I had to give up alcohol after a stay in the hospital with severe pancreatitis. I drank almost everyday and planned weekend events around it. Now I feel like I have nothing to look forward to. My future is boring and pointless. I am socially awkward and alcohol was helping me through life very nicely. I smoke weed, but that's not going to help me when I'm somewhere I can't smoke. Nothing is really fun anymore and I'm thinking way too much (like im questioning whether I really love my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years since I have a really bad crush on someone I work with). Sometimes I'm uncontrollably sad. How long til this goes away? more

Resolved Question: Could this be pancreatitis?

I went out for a night of heavy drinking last thursday knowing that my body is intolerant of alcohol. (REAL smart, I know) Spent the whole day friday in bed vomiting. Feeling crummy but much better on saturday. Sunday rolls around and I'm feeling alright so I cooked some steaks for dinner. Approx. an hour after eating I suddenly developed what felt like some vicious indigestion in my upper abdomen. The pain lasted at least 12 hours straight and worsened when I was in bed. Made it through Monday day without any noticeable pain but woke up about 3 am Tuesday morning with horrible upper abdominal pain. I took some tums both nights which seemed to help, but now today I have a constant discomfort and tenderness. Vibration seems to be an irritant along with pressure and breathing. I am a 25 year old female with suspected auto-immune disorder, 46 known food allergies, TMJ, Interstitial Cystitis, and I'm being treated for Fibromyalgia. And please no lectures about the drinking, I am an adult and perfectly aware that it is bad for me.Had a CTscan done today and it turns out that I have bilateral ovarian cysts. Thanks so much for the info and advice! more

Resolved Question: Help me with my Shih Tzu with Pancreatitis.?

My 3 year old shih tzu Lola got diagnosed with Pancreatitis on Tuesday. She was not feeling well at all for about 3 days. It took her almost 3 days before she would eat anything again. She was doing great yesterday. Her energy was back, she was paying with her toys. We were feeding her very little bits of food which included rice and a very little bit of her kibble which is Advoderm Beef. On top of all of this she has very bad food allergies and is actually borderline allergic to rice. So after a great day yesterday, she woke up today and has gone backwards. She is lethargic again and back to having diarrhea. I’m not sure if it was the pancreatitis that acted up again or if it was the rice…Any thoughts? Also when she does start feeling better again any thoughts on what I should feed her? My instinct is to just give her very very small amount of her kibble. That is really all she eats normally since her allergies are so bad. Thanks for any advice, I just want her to feel better and I was so upset today after she was so much better yesterday. Thanks, more

Resolved Question: How do I lift this curse?

I am a highly educated, 30-something year old lady. I am very logical and analytical, therefore I don’t generally believe in curses of any kind. I love the paranormal but am more into debunking or examining the unexplained than I am claiming any of it for myself. That is why this is such an unusual question for me. I think I’ve been cursed. Something, some kind of powerful bad energy has been affecting my health this entire past year of 2009, and I need to figure out a way to get it lifted or removed. My job is in jeopardy, my children’s emotions, my future and health. Not to mention my mental health! This year I have suffered unusual sickness’s mercilessly. It started out when I was divorced in December 2008. Then I began losing weight, which I regarded as a good thing at first, but now this past year I have lost around 185 lbs and look like a different person. I was hospitalized several times for malnutrition/starvation despite the fact that no matter how much I attempted to eat, I either vomited it up or could not put another bite into my mouth. I do not want to be skinny, I love curves. And honestly I miss mine. I’ve been losing from 17-10 lbs a week all year long. Rarely have I lost less than 10 lbs in any given week. This is not bulimia or anorexia- I WANT to eat and I do NOT want to lose more weight!!! In the summer I started suffering horrible agony and was hospitalized. Two months of agony later, they went from saying it was pancreatitis to saying I had a gastric leak which had destroyed much of my insides. They put me into an emergency 6 hour surgery, it was severe. I got home and no sooner had I mended from that horrific episode than I went outside to do laundry (my basement is outside my house) and fell on the darkened steps and broke my foot. This required more hospitalization. Recently I had a strange shoulder injury that grew worse, and I KNOW for a fact that I did not injure it, at least not while conscious. When the MRI and X-rays came back, it turned out to be yet ANOTHER severe injury- 5 torn ligaments and a severed tendon! That the doctor could not and refused to believe that I had not been dramatically assaulted or thrown out of a car or some such. Because according to him and all the other specialists this injury is so rare that it happens only in elderly, or in young people who have been in severely damaging situations, such as the jumping out of a speeding car scenario. I had not, I just woke up one morning in pain thinking I had slept wrong! Now I must have another surgery to fix the severed tendon and ligaments. I have not scheduled it yet but I have virtually no use of my right arm or hand. And yes, I am right handed. Then my driving priveleges were taken away due to some ticket in Texas which did not even happen to exist. I’ve never been to this place in Texas! I’ve spent $8,000 in legal fees so far and been tossed into the jail x number of times- which is a place I have never previously seen the inside of, being a regular law abiding person- even though a judge issued a decree in Texas stating the ticket to be invalid! I continue to be harassed in Illinois and arrested for driving without a license. And that is after the State of Illinois GAVE ME BACK MY LICENSE! Every time it is no longer suspended, they issue the suspension again based on the original, non-existent ticket. And generally without warning me so that I have no idea it has been suspended. Thus, I am not only sick but broke as well. I have had three relationships this past year, none lasted past the 3 week mark. He blamed me, said incredibly horrible things to me and about me, and fled to Mexico. I am crushed as I still have the morning sickness, only cramping and bleeding as well. My children, whom I NEVER introduce to any man, have been crying these past days that the baby is dead. Nobody told them, they just knew. Now I almost lost my job because of all these unexpected absences. I am at wit’s end. I am clearly suffering from some sort of curse or bad energy- I see no other viable explanation. I haven’t even shared some of the worse details here, the stranger elements that make all these things all the more unlikely. How do I end this so that I have a relatively decent 2010? Voting Question: Is this a curse and how do I lift it?

I suggest you at least google parallel universes, M-theory and 11th dimension. Then come back and READ the question before leaving such an ignorant answer. Thanks, Kathy. Resolved Question: gallbladder removal problems?

I am a 24 year old female. So I had my gall bladder removed in June. After having it removed I started to have diahrrea and constant throwing up of the really dark green bile. I lost 18 pounds in two weeks and was hospitalized for a couple of weeks. During my hospitalization they said I had gastritis, pancreatitis, due to all the bile in my stomach. I'm on prilosec, sulcrofate, and questran to help with all the symptoms. The pain in my stomach hurts a lot of times a lot and it seems like pain meds help with the nausea. Is it ok to take them, or better not to? I have better days, and sometimes really bad days when I have no appetite and throwup sometimes. Other days, Other then the heart burn I feel ok. My meds help some. I'm just wondering is my side effects after removal normal? What can I do so I don't have to be on meds forever? What are the risks of all the bile sitting around in there? Thanks for the help! more

Resolved Question: Blood Pressure meds that do not cause Pancreatitis?

I have had 2 instances of pancreatitis in my life, both caused by medication (I do not drink). My doctor had taken me off any medication with this possible side effect in 2003; one of the meds I was cleared for was a Blood Pressure med, Diltiazem (Cardiezem). I had been taking that up until a month ago, when apparently my body suddenly got used to it. More of the same pill did not work, so my doctor has decided to give me an ACE inhibitor + water pill (Lotensin) to try, even though pancreatitis is listed as a possibility. After a week and a half, I am starting to get "the pancreas pain" and although it might be gas, or something else (just started) I have begun to look for a different bp med that does not have pancreatitis as a possible side effect (even at the very bottom of the list, for I have had pancreatitis twice and do not wish to chance it). Does anyone know of a bp med that does not have that as a possibility at all? A point to mention: I also have UC that is in remission, and do not wish to take anything with that as a side effect (or diarrhea) either. more

Resolved Question: My husband was hospitalised for acute pancreatitis about 7 weeks ago and told never to drink again?

He used to drink heavily every night but gave up completely for 6 weeks after hospital. A week ago he started drinking again - about 7 beers a night and also a few spirits. What is going to happen health-wise? more

Resolved Question: What sort of health issues does/did your miniature Schnauzer have?

I'm just trying to see what other owners have dealt with along the line of health issues with their miniature Schnauzers. Not Standards or others, but purebred minis. After 9.5 years, we just lost our sweet girl overnight 11/30-12/1. What's killing me the most is that the vet said she was doing better and would be coming home the next day. Well, she came home, but to be buried. She was purchased at a pet shop. I KNOW, so the last thing I need is someone finger-wagging and saying how it's "Wrong". Trust me, I KNOW. The only regret I don't have is of her temperament/disposition. Nobody would ever have found a sweeter, better-natured dog. She was playful and active up until 3 days before she died. We as a family are heartbroken and while we knew we did everything we could for her, it still doesn't seem like enough. What's killing me the most is that we were told how she "perked up" on the IV this time, and had there been even a cautionary "You never know what's going to happen," maybe we could have somewhat mentally prepared ourselves for this. But she died alone, overnight, in a cage at the vet's. I can only hope she didn't know what was happening and that she wasn't afraid. This is what's making me walk the floors at night, and why Xanax is the only reason I'm functioning right now. We never crate-trained her. From her first night that we brought her home, she slept with us. She meant the world to us and the void in our home now is unspeakable. She seemed to be prone to just about any and every ailment that this breed is prone to. The pancreatitis is what started the beginning of the worse, when 2 Christmas Eves ago, she was rushed to the vet and put on an IV. She basically blew her pancreas out and 13 months ago, was diagnosed as a diabetic. She was getting 2 shots a day of Humulin. Other: She had 2 corneal ulcers (same eye), one requiring a (successful) grid keratotomy. Just before her death, evidence of the beginning of cataracts (a slight "clouding") had begun in her eyes. She had several lesser eye infections from time to time. Chronic ear infections. Skin allergies, worst at change of seasons.Figured I'd add due to an answer citing this breed as a popular one...I had my first miniature Schnauzer in 1974. He got hit by a car at the age of 6, and never had any health problems. But I don't want it thought that this is some sort of popularity thing or "fad" breed with me.@Melly Belly...thank you very much. Big hugs to your little guy and I pray he stays in good health. My girl didn't have cysts so much as, I don't want to call them pimples but they would sometimes come to a head. Other times they -felt- like cysts but would break. And if your guy licks his front paws a lot, that could be a signal of other skin allergies. Hers were more often than not soaked.@Schnauzer Mom..I don't know how you did it but there's a special place in heaven for people like you. I've had people suggest for me to rescue younger adults, but I can't. I can't deal with more heartbreak on top of this. You are a very special person and thank you for answering my question. I'll keep a good thought for yours and wish them stable health. more

Resolved Question: Pancreatitis...how to know when it starts back up?

I was hospitalized a few weeks ago for pancreatitis. It hadn't bothered me since 2006 when i had my gallbladder taken out. I was sent home after 4 days and the doc said everything looked ok. I've had a couple of spells here lately where i think it's trying to act up again. How do i know when pancreatitis is flaring up again? I know I get really sharp pains in that area and i can't eat. What other signs can i be on the lookout for? more

Resolved Question: Dad in ICU with Pancreatitis induced ARDS?

If someone is able to help with these questions I would be very grateful. The doctors are of some help, but very little. I am just looking for answers as to why this is happening to my dad. My dad was admitted to the hospital Saturday night with acute Pancreatitis. By Tuesday morning he had become extremely disoriented and confused- didn't understand where he was. He bagan pulling out his IV's and becoming very agitated. He was on Dilluadid and Adivant to keep him comfortable. Tuesday morning he was transferred to the ICU because the nurse noticed him struggling while breathing. The doctor's had to put him in restraints so that he would not pull out the new cathader under his collar bone administering his drip. The doctors are now concerned my dad has ARDS, or Pneumonia. I realize this is a test by exclusion but they seem more than convinced based on his extrememely low oxygen level of 50% that he does in fact have ARDS. He is on a respirator right now and heavily sedated so that he will not hurt himself becoming agitated while the respirator is in. My questions are, how does Pancreatitis actually induce ARDS development? And can his oxygen level possibly indicate his improvement with the ARDS and possibly indicate survival upon its improvement? I have looked up ARDS for the past day and feel I know a lot about the disease but there are some questions that the internet can't answer, and that the doctor doesn't have time to answer. Any help is appreciated. This disease is life threatening with a so-so survival rate. Also my dad is a 63 year old smoker. Smokes about half a pack a day and drinks about two drinks per night (despite the doctor's implication that he is an alcoholic- definintely had to read him the riot act on that one). After deciding it probably wasn't JUST the alcohol that could have cause these "withdrawal" symptoms of disorientation and confusion they turned to Benzodiazipine withdrawals since my dad took 1-2mg of xanax each night before bed. Just trying to give some background information if possible. Before anyone says it- when my father gets out of the hospital he will no longer drink or smoke. That is more than for sure. more

Voting Question: Has anyone ever gone to the gynecologist for this?

Hi, Okay, back in April I was in certain circumstances that warranted an abdominal and pelvic CT scan. The scan came back that I had a 2.1 cm complex cyst and mild low density fluid in my pelvic cul de sac. The circumstances surrounding the scan were not for cysts, it was for alcohol poisoning and seizures (they were checking for pancreatitis). I had recently requested my records in order to take them to a neurologist to get my license back (I can't drive right now b/c of seizures). I got that little surprise about the cyst after looking at the records. I have a gynecology appt on Friday, does anyone know from personal experience what they will do as far as examining for a (complex) cyst (I have had a pelvic exam in the past, so please don't give me that info and don't get anything off the internet on the complex cysts.) I am wanting more of info from people who have been through it before. Also, does anyone know what fluid in the pelvic cul de sac means? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Black lab has acute pain, cannot be explained.?

First I will say that my lab is only 2 & 1/2yrs old. So about 4 days ago my black lab got sick (not uncommon for her she has a bad GI system) we figured she ate to fast. Anyways, when I got up in the morning she was not acting her self. She didnt want to eat (even people food) or drink. Later on in the day she began doing this posturing stance where she would just walk around and then stop and stand there forever. She would not sit down or lay down, and she just would whine when you tried to make her get on furniture to rest or even lay down on the floor. We took her to the vet and had her checked out. But when we got to the vet she acted all normal and fine. They did express her anal glands as they were full, but they couldnt pinpoint the pain. They thought maybe pancreatitis but that was ruled out through lab work. So we brought her home and she continued to pace and walk around and not sit down. However, she started to eat and drink and was going to the bathroom. But she still did not want to play. The vet said if there was no improvement by the next day to bring her back. So we did bring her back and again she acted normal when we got to the vet. So they did radiographs, xrays, more blood work, etc and could not find anything abnormal. (There was like .2 increase on her white blood cells which honestly didnt mean a single thing). So the only thing the vet could tell me was possibly a soft tissue injury was causing her pain (due to the WBC count). They sent us home with rimadyl and after taking it she started to be alright. She has been on rimadyl before so I know it doesnt affect her badly (as I know most of you have probably seen the bad reports about pfizer and dog deaths due to rimadyl). Anyways, I decided to take her off it after only 2 days because she was acting decently like her self again. She had her last dose yesterday (wed 11/4/09) at 4:30-5ish. And so far today she is eating, wanting to play, relaxing, getting up on the furniture without us prying her to do so, and all body systems seem to be working ok. I am just wondering if anyone knows what could have possibly caused her to get this acute pain that cannot be explained, also if you ever had this happen to your dog (and did they get better), and if you know how long it takes for rimadyl to be out of the system...therefore I can see if it acutally is my dog getting better or the meds just masking her pain. Thanks and sorry this was so long.I already told all of this to the vet. Thanks for your answers so far.She was on rimadyl before for her spaying. She is not overweight she is actually right where she needs to be weight wise. I am thinking it could have been a number of things. I know it wasnt the smartest to take her off the rimadyl before the prescribed time but I just thought she was getting better so why keep a dog on soemthing that could cause further complications when she is already ok. Thanks so much for all the answers so far. They did xrays and radiographs of her stomach, thoracic cavity, abdomen, hind quarters, hips, and then they also did a hip dysplasia xray. At 5pm today it will be 24hrs since she had her last dose, so hopefully by then we will be able to see if it was the rimadyl or herself getting better on her own. Thanks again everyone for your help, and I def look forward to getting more response. The vet did a very good check on all the tests, and they actually had a second vet look at all of them just as a second opinion...neither could find anything! Strange. And I am an LPN and asked to look at them and I couldnt notice anything on her labs radiographs or xrays, that were out of the ordinary. more

Ok This might be a lil long but i want to tell you the whole story so you understand what happened so please bare with me. Please keep in mind while reading this for 12 days i did not see my new born daughter at all due to i was in the ICU. Almost 6 months ago i gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. All threw my pregnancy i had gallbladder attacks several times a day. They were so painful but i refused the surgery while i was pregnant because i couldn't risk loosing my child. A week after i had her i went into a severe attack which latest 3 days before i went to the hospital. They told me i had pancreatitis and my liver and kidneys were both shutting down. They also said i couldnt have my gallbladder removed right then because i had pancreatitis. I was in so much pain they had to put me on a pain pump and wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything for a total or 12 days while i was in the hospital. 5 days after i arrived i was in good enough health for them to have my gallbladder removed. They said it was sickest they have ever seen. While i was in surgery they cut my bile duct spilling bile all in my body. It was slowly killing me. The next day I was back into emergency surgery to have a stent put in. That stent didnt work it became blocked.2 days later they had to take me back into surgery for another stent which thankfully worked. While all this was going on My fiance broke up with called off our wedding and kicked me out of house. I had a mental breakdown in hosptial and was diagnosed as postpartum depression. I feel now real connection with my daughter i mean i love her to death i just don't want to deal with her. Which is horrible and i feel like the worst mother on earth. Voting Question: Would Nexium help gallstone pain?

My husband awoke in the wee hours this morning with crushing pain right at the ribcage level and ended up vomiting a couple of times. We've been to the doctor and he thinks it's gastritis; he first tried having him swallow a topical anesthetic to be sure the pain wasn't radiating from the esophagus or upper portion of the stomach because of acid reflux (he just threw that up, and the pain wasn't helped at all). After making his diagnosis, he gave my husband some samples of Nexium as well as a couple of other prescriptions for nausea and such. No more than 10 minutes after he took the Nexium, he felt almost perfect; a little shaky in the stomach still, but the pain was gone, as was the strong nausea. MY fear was that he had a gallstone attack, which of course would eventually result in surgery, and he isn't insured yet. We can't figure out what would have brought on the gastritis, unless this sounds like a recipe for it: that night, we went out to eat, and he had a burger. Later on, we had fast food, which was a fried chicken sandwich. He had SEVERAL Crown Royal and Cokes that night. And in general he tends to drink a lot of soda. Does all this sound like it could cause at least acute gastritis? If his problem were actually something worse like gallstones or pancreatitis, would the Nexium have helped him at all? more

In June or possibly July of this year, my mother had her gallbladder removed.October 2nd she was hospitalized for acute pancreatitis. Both of her hospitalizations are due to her heavy drinking. she has been an alcoholic since i was born, o about 15 years. After each hospitalization she was told she couldn't drink but she does anyway. My mother has zero energy and is on about 15+ medications. she is suffering from depression as well. She has so many doctors appointment and procedures. she has a gum disease too, the one that comes after gingivitis. she is very little and brittle. Resolved Question: Severe back pain, went to er, no help?

Im re-asking a question i already posted. Im having serious upper back pain. It started only happening a week or 2 inbetween. I went to the hospital yesterday and it started hurting 2 hours after i was discharged and went away then again at 4am the next day and again at 5pm that same day. I was checked for a uti, pancreatitis, and full blood and urine work up as well as xrays of my stomach and back. The dr said he couldnt find anything. But that doesnt help me much. The pain hasnt stopped happening. Im planning on setting up an appt with a family dr as soon as i have the money but right now nothing i do is helping. Ive tried drinking cranberry juice, water, taking tylenol, midol, and ibuprofen, none of which is helping.i forgot to add im burping alot more than usual, throwing is the only thing that helps make the pain go away, and my urine is alot darker than it ought to be based on what im drinking. Maybe a stomach problem?throwing up**cool thanks everyone. and i have no idea if they checked my gallbladder. i just know he said my blood and urine all came back clean, as well as a blood gas. more

Voting Question: I would like to know if this is medical malpractice?

I am in the mid 50s. I was having severe upper stomach pain . I could not stand up straight. I went to the emergency room I had 3 ct scans. X rays and bloodwork. I heard the dr joking about the pain said it was muscles he had the nurses laughing So he came into where I was, said nothing was wrong gave me a little some thing to ease the pain. A week or so later I had the problem still This time even worse. I went back got the same mouthy intern. said he doesnt know ?everything shows nothing is wrong. The dr came in I had pancreatitis I couldnt eat or drink anything for over a week They told me to stop taking a med I was on and that was that. I went to my own dr She had me see a specialist I was admitted from his office to have my gall bladder out. I had a stone near the size of golf ball sitting on the drainage port. I had emergency surgery. I have the reports after getting a 75,000.00 bill There was no mention of a gall stone in either report intern and the overseeing dr put down But there was a report given about the gallstone on both visits. It was overlooked in the emergency room I suffered with alot of pain dehydration vomiting from the first visit to the next about a week. Even the specialist who did the surgery noted that the report given to the er mentioned the gall stone but it was overlooked I was misdiagnosed.I would like to know if both doctors are at fault. more

Voting Question: upper right abdomen pain?

i have been rolling around in bed for the past hour and a half searching for the perfect position to minimize this pain i have in my upper right abdomen so i can get some sleep. When i found myself curled up into a ball, i decided it was time to go see a doctor, Dr Google. I realized the only symptom i actually had was severe pain, which leads to dreary conditions that match it such as stomach cancer, liver cancer and pancreatitis. Luckily i don't have the other required symptoms such as bloody diarrhea and vomiting. Now my pain is indeed severe and i am not just being soft, and normally i would panic in this situation, but fortunately yet sadly, this is not the first time i have felt this abdomen pain. First time i felt it i thought it was appendicitis and i thought i was in big trouble. But then a few hours later the pain started subsiding and the next day i was fine. Since that sleepless night 3 years ago it has been happening every few months and i think i have finally spotted the link. The pain seems to occur after extended periods (just a few hours) of not eating followed by feasts of fatty foods. This indulgence is not worth the 8 or so hours of severe pain that follow. The pain slowly builds up and peaks, It is tender to feel and radiates from below the front of the right rib cage to the belly button. I tried some ant-acid type tablets and they dont seem to work, i dosed my self with some childrens paracetamol but didn't seem to ease the pain enough so i could sleep. If you managed to read this i would love to hear what you think may be happening to me.. more

Resolved Question: Honeymoon phase of diabetes?

I have been a type 2 diabetic for about 10 years following a serious bout of pancreatitis. At first my blood sugars were bad, some fasting values of over 400, but as it wore on I got a little better and just needed to control it with diet and exercise. Whenever I got pregnant I would have to go on insulin, after the births my levels would get better. Now I'm pregnant again, at the beginning of my pregnancy I went on insulin and oddly had to stop, 2 hours after a meal my levels would drop to 40. Now I act like I'm not a diabetic anymore, which is very strange for me now that I'm nearing the 7th month. By now I'm usually on a pretty large dose of 2 different insulins, but I don't need anything now. My endocrinologist said he thinks my pancreas is working overtime for some reason, we'll have more testing when I go back. He said most people recover from post pancreatitis diabetes within a few months, but I've hung onto this for 10 years. Has anyone experienced anything like this and what happened? My fasting levels now are usually 78-90 and 2 hours after a meal its about 90-100. If I am in the honeymoon phase, how long will this last since I'm older (31) doesn't it last longer? He does an A1C every visit. It's excellent most times. more

Voting Question: I had acute pancreatitis in December of 2005. Can I drink now?

Okay, in december of '05 i suffered from acute pancreatitis, not caused by alcohol (as I was 13 at the time). I have started drinking now but, because i had pancreatitis 6 months after that in '05, is it okay for me to drink in moderation? (only one or 2 drinks of 5% alcohol or less) - definately not doing shots because i don't want to risk having another attack of it. more

Resolved Question: What causes white urine?

Does anyone know what would cause urine to be white? It looked like the fat-free skim milk I had earlier in the day. I usually have a container nearby overnight so I don't have to keep getting up. I could see it clearly. I was getting up again, about every hour. I didn't notice the color until daylight. However, I'm sure milk couldn't go right through my kidneys and still look like that. Well, it's never happened before. I have a number of conditions that may have contributed/caused this including badly controlle diabetes, HBP and untreated gallbladder disease. I also have symptoms of Pancreatitis - pain in the left upper abdomen. Currently, just about everything I eat causes pain on the right and left side before it was mainly just animal fats. After I got up and ate something, the frequent urination calmed down, as usual. However, I still was checking the urine. It wasn't white anymore but it was cloudy. Any ideas what this could be? more

Resolved Question: IBS or Chronic Pacreatitis?

For 10 to 11 years now, I've had these infrequent abdominal attacks that last up to 3 days per episode and always after eating, usually shortly after lunch. The abdominal pain I feel is what I imagine it would be to get shot and have a burning slug in my gut. It causes me to double over, I get the chills, and at times, feel as though I'm about to vomit. I do have a family history where at least one immediate family member had their gall bladded removed due to pancreatitis. My doctor insistsit's IBS. An Upper GI about 8 years ago revealed nothing. Some other test that involved my eating irradiated scrambled eggs revealed no problesm. An ultrasound during a rushed ER visit, while I was having an attack, did not reveal gall stones. So, they told me I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. But I refuse to believe that. My pain, again, feels like a pinball has been shot into my gut and the pain will not go away. Sorry so lengthy... more

Resolved Question: My girlfriend wants to have sex on a daily basis, what can I do to satisfy her without doing it so often?

Alright, I'd like you guys to help me out on a very annoying situation I've been having with my girlfriend for the past couple months. First off, my girlfriend is a sex addict and she wants to do the deed every single day. If I don't please her at least once a day she goes into horrendous pms bi-polar mode and the only way to stop it is to make love. I'm trying to figure out if I'm in the wrong, she's really good at making it seem like that most of the time. Having sex with her on a daily basis makes me not want to have sex with her as often. I've lost all interest in the whole experience because of this. To top it off, she only wants to do it in one position and has no desire to experiment with others. It's beginning to get really old and I shouldn't have to please her so often just to make her happy. It gets to the point where she'll be very irritable and treat me like crap if I don't. Sex just gets old and worn out after awhile once you do it too frequently and she just doesn't understand my point of view. It's not because I'm not attracted to her anymore or anything. Right now I've been in and out of the hospital for pancreatitis and she's still getting angry that I haven't had sex with yesterday because of my severe pain. Yeah I have pain medication right now but I still don't want to risk anymore pain then I've already been having. What do you think I should do to make her understand that she's in the wrong? What can I do to satisfy her without being forced to have sex on a daily basis? Some people just don't want to do it all the time and I'm one of those people. Please help.Call me a homo all you want but any straight dude knows that when you have sex with a girl every single day she gets LOOSE. I need Carlos Mencia over here to help these fcktards. DEEdeeDEEOh yeah, why would I want to have sex every single day with her when I can barely feel the ridges inside of her anymore?? She's the only one getting the pleasure. All of you downing my question have no sense inside your feeble thought processes, trust me when I say this; you don't want what I've got right now. And yes, I am well endowed. This may sound very weird to most people but. How do I put this, this girl tells me that the only way she can have a full on orgasm is if I release inside of her, unprotected. So how many of you desperate dudes want her now? Desperate enough to be a daddy? She's all yours. lmaoAnyone who wants to throw hate in my face and say they wish they had what I have. Those people are the ones that no girl will ever want to set their eyes on. You will be alone for the rest of your lives, the only sex you'll be having is the kind with your hand and the tissue box you run out of in under an hour. more

Resolved Question: Dog with pancreatitis?

Our little dashound had been sick for several days. We took him into the vet a week ago, and after several days they had to do exploritory suergery.. They opened him up and found his pancreas to be white and not working. What did they mean when they said it was white? How serious is his problem is it was white? He also had alot of "stuff" in his intestines they had to clean out. He is on IV fluids now and seems like he is getting better... but not able to eat without throwing up. Is it possible to recover and live normal at all? I know he will have to eat low fat and stuff, but I am scared that there is something the vet had not told us. more

Resolved Question: does this sound like a muscoskeletal issue?

I have been experiencing stomach pain, abdominal bloating, constipation, belching, and back pain for over a week now. It started after I got sick from drinking too much alcohol. I have a chronic bladder condition called interstitial cystitis and my doctor thinks i most likely have irritable bowel syndrome as well. She tested my urine for a kidney infection b/c of the back pain but there was nothing. If I feel down below my rib cage on my back and it is tender to the touch. My kidney area hurts badly and it feels like a burning sensation. I have been reading online and think I may have Pancreatitis? Is this consistent with Pancreatitis? I also have read about Fibromyalgia as well b/c these autoimmune diseases seem to occur together, but I just cant get myself to think that this is just a muscoskeletal pain problem especially since its mainly in the area where my kidneys are located. I know this isnt for medical advise but I have been posting on other sites and have gotten no where. I have an appt with a GI dr next week so I am hoping i can get some answers. I had a Complete metabolic panel test done and all levels were normal that was in June. Could this one episode be the cause of a serious condition such as Pancreatitis? I have been reading about Ulcers as well. I dont have a churning gnawing pain in my gut or blood in my stool etc.. I do have a little indigestion though. more

Resolved Question: boyfriend has acute pancreatitis. Looking for herbal alternatives.?

has acute pancreatits. When I met him he had mild abdominal pains every few days only once a day. They increased in the past year to the point where he has pain every day, several times and the pain has intensified since he had his last real bad attack 3 weeks ago and went to the hospital for 3 days. The dr. ran tests, said his blood pressure was real high. and his pancreas was inflammed greatly. he was throwing up bile the night before and the next day when he went into the hospital. Dr. said they could not do anything else other than ease the pain and run tests and they sent him home in pain with pain pills which put him to sleep most of the day. He was a mild drinker. And has vowed to stop drinking after this attack. So that is good. He has twisted intestines and had his gallbladder removed when he was first diagnosed with pancreatitis. He does not have diabetes or pancreatitis cancer. He does have bouts of weakness, feeling tired, has hot/cold spells at night as if his blood pressure is fluctuating. Sometimes he has a hard time catching his breath and it scares me because I worry he is going to die, but I place a fan in front of his face and he gets better after awhile and breathes normally. During the day he sweats alot when it is hot and needs lot of air to stay cool. I hear that ceder berrys are good for the pancreas. Lipase is good, but I am concerned about that because if pancreatitis secretes lipase which eats at the pancreas, why would one want to take that. Is there something to calm down the pancreas and keep it from digesting itself. I am looking for natural herbal supplements that work. I got him some pancre-ease tablets and something I cant think of the name but it helps regulate the blood pressure. Just got some cedar berry tablets. I read that garlic tablets are also good for blood pressure. Any other ideas or helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to do all that I can to help him in a natural healthy way. more

Voting Question: Health concerns need your opinion please...?

Hello, I am a 30 year old male, I have been struggling with stomach symptoms and more for a while now, when I eat I get a pain and pressure in the upper left of my stomach near the ribcage and wraps around to my back. I also get extremely fatigued and I mean extremely. Other symptoms are joint pain, diarhea and stomach seems swollen or bloated. I been for many tests, ultrasounds, cat scans, blood tests, colonoscopy, endoscopy, my results of the ultrasound showed a contracted gallbladder, i had 2 ultra sounds and the first was fine second showed contracted gallbladder. My edonscopy was perfect. My colonoscopy showed internal hemroids, anal fissure, and nodules in my colon that were non cancerous. I also have nodules which turned out to be benign lypomas in my skin accoss my stomach and a little in my back, my dermotologist removed one and found it to be a benign lypoma. Cat scans years ago showed thickening of colon walls they said colitis at hospital but after the colonoscopy the GI specialists thinks it is not. My most recent tests were blood and ct scan with and without contrast, I have not yet recieved the results yet except to find when i called that my lipase was a little bit low and she said not too much to worry about but i was talking to the nurse. Any ideas or advice you could give me, or maybe some questions I could ask my GI specialist when I go in. also some things i wonder about are: Pancreatitis, Lupus and not really sure what it is but just looking for some advice... here thanks! more

Voting Question: I am worried I have developed chronic pancreatits?

After a binge drinking session at a wedding 2 months ago, I've had pain close to my left ribs, a muscle bulge in my back, then the pain moved to the right side slightly right center. I'm worried that I have permanently damaged my pancreas. Blood tests for amylase and lipase were normal though. The dull ache comes on every day for hours, I feel slightly nauseous then. I had an endoscopy, no ulcers. Do any of you have chronic pancreatitis?I also have a back ache for the last 2 months, I also had a colonoscopy and everything was fine. I'm 27 now. more
