Knee Fracture Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: How long will my ankle/leg be swollen after a fracture and torn MCL?

On March 12, 2010, I slipped on some wet tile and fell fracturing my left fibula in 2 places (one near the knee, one near the ankle), I dislocated my left knee cap and tore my MCL. I was put in a cam boot and knee brace, used crutches, the whole 9 yards. Thankfully I did not require any surgery. My last x-rays in late April, showed the fractures were healing nicely and as of late May, the Ortho doc felt the fractures were healed. My knee is not 100%, it's about 85-90%. Still a bit stiff. I'm no longer wearing a cam boot or knee brace and I'm still having a great deal of swelling in my leg/ankle and it's mid June, 2010. There isn't any pain or discoloration. This has been my first major injury since I was a kid, so I've not been certain as to what to really expect. I just hope this swelling won't last forever. It's not cute having legs and ankles two different sizes. ;-) Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for this situation? I would greatly appreciate any and all advice, suggestions or stories of your own experience. Thanks so much!! more

Resolved Question: Is my body just slowly falling apart?

I'm 33 years old and have never had an ache in my life. I was heavily in karate between the ages of 10 and 14, and after that, pretty much did NOTHING until I was about 27. I started getting into running, but very very slowly... since then, I've been running on and off - when I say running, I mean light jogging. Nothing competitive. However, despite the 'lightness' of my activity, I have managed to: fracture my toe, and develop severe tendonitis in the knee (Runner's Knee? How the hell did that happen when I'm not really serious about it?!). This put me off running until I turned 30 when I tried getting back into it again. This time, hip injury (joy). Off running again. Got pregnant. Had a baby. And at 32, I went back into running again and decided that I need to strengthen myself in order to actually go through with it. I managed almost a year... with shin splints! My shin splints are now so bad that the GP said "NO MORE RUNNING". OK, so I've stopped. I then hired a personal trainer to get me stronger. I thought that maybe my muscles are so weak as I never do any strength training. Now, 4 weeks into training with weights at the gym, I have developed a pain in my right shoulder and my left wrist. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! Am I just prone to injury? Am I never allowed to do any sports?! I've even tried low impact activities such as yoga... I injured my elbow. Is there something wrong with me? Do I have arthritis or something that I don't know about? I feel like my body is falling apart and I am envious of people who can just pick a sport and go for it. This has really really been a depressing journey into trying to have an active and fit lifestyle. Any advice?! more

Resolved Question: I got hit by a car and put in hospital, can i claim?

I fractured my right wrist, dislocated my shoulder and elbow and have soft tissue damage from my right hip to my knee, i was on my break at work and going back to work, the bus driver signaled me to cross the road so i did and a car pulled out to over take and hit the side of me and i ended up on the floor, the driver who hit me got out to help but the bus driver drove off and left the scene of the accident, technically it was his fault in the first place as he said it was clear to cross, its also illegal to over take the bus on the lines, what should i do, can i claim compensation? more

Voting Question: My elbow is really stiff what can i do?

I fractured my radial head on my radius and the fracture was barely even minor and my joints are now really stiff i want to know if i can get full movement back in my elbow some how. Also i sprained my ankle and it hurts to turn it to one side and my knee joint cracks only when i walk down stairs or something similar, i was wandering if anyone could tell me what i might have done to it cause its not broken its been 2weeks since i hurt it and i can walk normally without pain.the doctor didn't give me any injections for my elbow he just gave me some excersizes to do and they have worked very slowly over the past 3weeks . more

Resolved Question: I sprained my ankle two days ago in gym class... when will it heal?

I was playing kickball and was in the outfield area when the ball came flying my way. I tried to catch it but somehow fell down. My left knee is bruised and the skin is scraped. My right ankle is swollen around the ankle bone and there is mild bruising. When i compared my two feet, the right one definitely looked bigger than the normal left foot. I' got x-rays because my doc was afraid I got some fractures, but everything came out fine - no breaks, just torn ligaments. I have crutches and no gym for 2 weeks. How long will this take to heal (completely)? I read that it can take maybe a year for the sprained ankle to regain full use or be back to 100% normal. I am nervous because what if it still hurts when summer is over? more

Resolved Question: I really think something is broken in there...?

Seven days ago I received a blow to the shin. Within minutes, a large lump and bruising appeared. I went to the ER, and received an x-ray-the doctor was sure it was broken-and was told that there was no fracture, no break, that I just had a hematoma. Well, since then there has been a major spread of the bruising, it spans the width and length of my leg from the injury site just below my knee to my toes, there is increasing numbness and pain, and I can barely stand to put weight on it. The injury site itself is darker, and there is a red spot in the center that has been getting more red the past couple of days. Did they miss something, or is this just the normal path of healing for a hematoma? By the way, the lump itself is firm and hot to the touch. more

Resolved Question: Have I fractured my knee cap?

I landed on my knee last Saturday at ballet after doing a big jump and initially it didn't really hurt, there was a bit of bruising and slight swelling but that was it. Now three days later I'm noticing it more. Does anyone know if growing pain is usual in a fracture or crack or something? more

Voting Question: Not sure if i should put weight on my fractured knee or recently fractured wrist to use crutches?

I fell and fractured my left knee cap the same day that I came out of plaster fro a colles fracture of my right wrist. The wrist was not set correctly and sticks out, when I use my crutches, my wrist is very painful and I feel like the pressure is pushing the bone out further. Leg is in a full length cast but I can 'walk' on it without the right crutch and without pain Just not sure which is doing the most damage? more

Resolved Question: Can someone read this and tell me what they think please? Thanks!?

The vast open space on her left gave the gunshots a ghostly quality. Three short cracks - the sound hardly penetrating the azure walls. Lucy’s heart started beating hard but she wasn’t ready to go yet. The dancers on the stage below her were oblivious, they moved before a huge theatre of empty seats, lost in the music. A dress rehearsal was halfway through and her hands trembled almost in time to the quavering woodwind. Deft fingers danced across the black and white keys of the piano in the orchestra, the air in front of the stage was filled by the sound. The bomb was almost ready. A crowd had gathered around the scene of the arrest of the last resistance fighter, seven years previously. Her mother’s hand had tightened around her own, but it hadn’t stopped it being forever imprinted in her mind. The man was kneeling, the muscles of his arms shining with sweat in the sun as he glared defiantly at the heavily armoured soldiers. Just a single person; the thirty soldiers were to remind the wary public of whom and what they should believe in. Lucy had watched as a pale man in a suit walked up to stand looking down at the rebel. The knelt man had spat at the President’s feet and then the butt of a rifle had fractured his skull. As he left the President had met the scared eyes of a ten year old girl; who now, seven years on, tried to plant a bomb in the head rest of the armchair he would be watching a ballet from. The box seats of the London Theatre were luxurious and the carpet cushioned her knees. Next to the President’s throne was a smaller chair that would seat his son. He had been at the arrest, a small, blond haired, blue eyed lamb standing by the presidential limo, her age. He hadn’t watched. The wires and glue were taking shape as a bomb, it would kill or maim the heir to the throne but he would have taken over his father with the same iron fist; it would be easiest if he died. The gunshots meant her team had been discovered; she tried not to think of the possibility that her friends were dead. It was so close; she couldn’t stop when they were so near their goal. Footsteps sounded outside the room and she grabbed her pistol, it took a second for her to recognise Kye in her sights but he didn’t seem bothered. “Soldiers are coming. Amy got sighted but I think she’s away, Monty as well, we need to bail.” “I’m almost done.” “They’ll look for it with the security breach.” She almost protested but he was right and she was meant to be leading them; they could try again. “Alright, bail.” She abandoned the gear and they ran out into the corridor as Whistler arrived and panted, “Soldiers that way. I think we’re screwed.” “This way,” Lucy said, trying to keep the fear from her voice. They went right from the door and Whistler jogged to the corner, listened and made to turn the corner but a dozen rounds were fired and the bullets thudded into the wall as he jerked back. “Full body armour.” more

Resolved Question: Toes swelling from broken leg cast?

Hi, I broke me leg couple of weeks ago and have a cast up to my knee for six weeks. At night my toes become like big fat sausages and are really itchy and then not so bad in the daytime. Putting foot up doesn't make any difference to the swelling. The cast itself is comfortable enough (as far as a cast can be called comfortable!), but the discomfort in my toes is awful. I do have a corn on my toe which is also extremely painful and swollen and not getting any better even though no weight is being put on that foot. Is my problem caused by the cast (thinking maybe water retention at night and ankle swelling?) or could the corn be infected? Just don't want to bother the fracture clinic as they're really busy or do I just need a visit to the chiropodist? bit of a crystal ball question this..... more

Voting Question: I left the hospital...Can i leave it untreated?

I injured my knee 4/5 weeks ago but only just got it checked out today because i was on holiday. Aparently ive fractured my patella. its non-displaced so no surgery is required, i was told a full leg cast would be put on. What with the footy (soccer) season starting again i didnt like the idea of this so left...so im wondering if i can leave it to fix on its own?? Its fine to walk and i did it over a month ago. Anyone tell me if it is able to heal on its own?? without a cast? more

Voting Question: could there be ankle damage?

a few weeks ago i was walking in a crowd of people and i didn't see a step in front of me, i went off the step and i put my foot down quite hard. i didnt think i had done any damage at the time but a few days later my ankle had swelled and bruised. i went to A&E and they said there was a possibility of a hairline fracture. i went back to the doctor two days later and they said there wasnt a "worrying fracture" but there may be ligament damage. all this time my ankle was aching incredibly painfully. i was on crutches for a while but now i am walking around again with a brace. my ankle still aches very much and putting my foot down at a slight angle causes a lot of pain and i can barely put any pressure on the inside of my leg, the whole way up to my knee. does anyone know what could be wrong??? i didnt think i could tear ligaments as i didnt roll it. i just put it down flat very hard. ??? thankyou :) more

Resolved Question: Really Bad Joint Pain? Please Help?

okay so since about the end of october i've had really bad painful joints, I've visited the doctor numerous times, had blood tests. Was tested for R.Arthritus but it came back negative, i'm now booked in for an xray on them sometime next week. Any of you have any idea what this could be?! It hurts in my ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers. Occasionally however the pain moves to the bottom of my spine and also along my collarbones? I'm totally confused! I've been prescribed anti-inflamatories which are just not helping at all, as the joints aren't even swollen! The pain is so bad sometimes that i can't physically walk and drag myself around the house with my arms, i've missed so much time off school because of it! AH ALSO , i mentioned this to my doctor but he doesn't seem to think it has any connection, at the beginning of october i had a pretty bad motorbike accident, I wasn't wearing a helmet so hit and grazed all the right side of my face, all the skin came off my right knee and i fractured a bone in my right foot. Most of the impact was mostly on my knee and foot, i don't know if this is in anyway linked but thought i'd include it just incase have any of you ever had something similar if so what is it cause its driving me mad! I couldn't enjoy christmas day as i could barely move! thanks x more

Resolved Question: What should I expect with a spiral fracture to the tibia?

I broke my leg last week - clean break to fibula and spiral break to tibia. I had an op to insert a titanium rod into the tibia, and the fibula has just been left to mend on its own. I haven't got a cast and have been told to not put any weight on my leg. *How long should I expect it to take to get back to normal? *Is it OK for my foot to go purple when I stand up? *How much should I be resting and how much should I be mobilising? My foot swells up very quickly if I'm vertical. *How long should I expect to be in pain for? *My ankle and knee are swollen and stiff. Should I be forcing them to move? Resolved Question: How to find a top knee specialist physiotherapist?

I fractured my patella (nasty fracture), which was wired back together and I spent 6 weeks in plaster. I am currently treated by a physiotherapist who does an 'ok' job but has limited (if any) experience of my specific issue. I end up having to find advice in various places (friends, doctors, internet etc) and tell him what I learned. I am very keen to return to top performance of my knee and leg and have been looking for a physiotherapist who has the right experience to help me with that. (you know, someone who has learned the tricks through having treated many patients with fractured knees) But there seems to be no obvious route to find such specialist. I live in North London (England). Any idea where to look? (internet did not help) Are they any professional bodies that could direct me? Many thanks. more

Resolved Question: Is this normal after ORIF ankle surgery?

Hi! I had ORIF on an ankle fracture on Friday (I had fractured it two days before on the Wednesday). I was fitted with a backslab cast (just covering the back of my leg, ankle and foot) and had the cast completed on Monday, when I was also discharged from hospital. Now I am at home. My leg feels fine all the time it is elevated and there is plenty of space around the top of the cast near my knee and the bottom of the cast at my toes. When I get up (or even sit up, with my leg down) it feels like I have a massive headrush in my ankle area and it really, really throbs. This stops again once I elevate it. I am concerned that it is still swelling too much as I have to take a 4 hour car ride on Sunday this week and don't want to not go. Can anyone help? more

Resolved Question: Recovering from badly fractured knee cap?

What are the mechanisms behind the difficulty in recovering the "flexing" of the articulation? I have been 6 weeks in plaster, following a very nasty fracture of my knee cap. I am in the process of very slowly recovering some of my knee functions - knee is less swollen and a touch less stiff, some flexion is back - very slowly, with daily exercises. I would like to know what makes that whole process so difficult. - all tissues "stuck" together following all the swelling and bruising? - muscles having lost their stretch? - issue with joints? what issue? - all of the above? Also, my doctor and my physio tend to say that recovering fully (as in "doing all the stuffs I could do prior to the accident") is not the norm. I intend to get back to exactly where I was prior to the accident (as tough as they might say that is). Does it sound possible to any of you, whether you went through that or you are medically qualified? Many thanks more

Resolved Question: What would happen if one left a hair line fracture untreated?

My 60 year old mother had a fall on Friday getting on the bus. She can bear her weight but the front of her calf swollen up considerably. The swelling has reduced over the weekend and the bruising is very evident from just below the knee to her shin. It is extremely painful to touch and even the light bed covers cause discomfort. She has spent the majority of the weekend with her leg up in the bedroom. I went to the pharmacy this morning and was told she could have a hairline fracture. She can't get to A&E today, her grand kids are coming tomorrow and she can't be spending 4-5 hours in casualty. She has been given strong painkillers to be going on with. She does have an unrelated hospital appointment on Thursday morning. I said I will go along with her and if her leg is still bothering her, we could do a sit in at A&E all day if required. She is curious though, what would happen if it did turn out to be a hairline fracture and she didn't have it looked at? She also wants to know, if it was a hairline fracture, should she really be walking about on it? I have tried to include as much relevant detail as I can. If you need any more information regarding this, please post it in your reply. I will check for answers throughout the day and I am available on email. Many thanks in advance. Resolved Question: Baby P: Why the media frenzy this time round?

Tiffany Wright, three, was starved to death by her mother, who then left her body in a bedroom for nearly three days. The little girl had not eaten or drunk anything for 20 hours and was found in a filthy bed, in a room infested with beetles. The judge described it as "about as bad a case of child manslaughter as there can be". Despite the nature of Tiffany's death, the public reaction to the mother who killed her is very different to that directed towards Tracey Connelly. Few, if any, will recognise the name of Tiffany's mother Sabrina Hirst, who was given a 12-year jail sentence for the manslaughter of her daughter in September 2007 - a month after Peter was found dead in his cot in north London Equally, the names Tina Hunt and James Howson are probably meaningless to most people. At his home in Doncaster, Howson murdered his 16-month-old daughter Amy just before Christmas 2007, in a manner which has shocking similarities to that of 17-month-old Peter in Haringey. After weeks in which he punched and attacked his child, causing multiple fractures to her arms and legs, Howson inflicted a blow the head and, some time afterwards, put his daughter on his knee and hyperextended her back, breaking her spine in two places. It was the broken back that killed her before the bleed from the head injury. "The bone was completely dislocated, resulting in spinal shock, rapid unconsciousness – mercifully – and to death," said Mrs Justice Cox. Tragically, this sort of thing happens scarily frequently. Everything possible needs to be done to prevent and stop it. Surely the way forward is to put as much money, training and support into social services, rather than to demonize them. Anyone know why the knives were/are out for Haringey Council?Gemma: So you would rather social workers were not given better training and more support? Any social worker who has spoken publicly of late, talks about how the rules, guidlines and nature of their jobs, changes every 9 months or so, and they don't get any training. Surely Social Workers need to be amongst the best paid and best trained civil servants in the country?Chazi; talk about missing the point.Alter Ego: All that typing and no attempt to try to figure out why the Baby P case got so much publicity when there are many other cases like this throughout the country. Instead of having the courage or brains to try answering the question, you used the opportunity to have a rant and a go at me. You brave brave man.ALTER: Dude, you're the one making all the threats and getting all angry there behind your computer screen. All I'm looking for is a considered, reasonable answer. There were considerable failings for social services in the other 2 cases I have mentioned, and yet no one seemed to care about those. You seem to have missed that point in your 3-4 attempts to answer the question. more

Now considering the hamstring is directly attached to the head of the fibula will I need a full leg cast? and for how long; taking into account that I am young and healthy. The tibia is not broken at all; just the fibula is broken. weird huh? more

Resolved Question: Will I have to have an operation?

My kneecap dislocated and I went to A&E they have strapped it up in a splint to hold the kneecap in place and I have an appointment to go and see a fracture specialist (I don't know why fracture doctor because it is not fractured?) It is the 14th time it has dislocated over a period of 7 years since I was 14 so I don't know why they are doing something now and they didn't before. They haven't scanned it yet but the dr at A&E said he thinks there are bone fragments chipped off and possibly cartilage damage and there is definitely ligament damage. What will I have to have done to my knee? will it now always be a problem? Is an operation the only option or are there other routes i can go down? Can you not read? I said I have an appointment with a fracture clinic I'm just looking for a bit of advice so I know what I'm heading for and seeing if theres anyone who has any experience of it on here who could give a little advice. What the hell do you think yahoo answers is for????? I'm not asking people with no medical knowledge to operate on me am i so what harm is it doing? more

Resolved Question: Any body else had a bad skiing accident this year?

Hi, I'm Melissa and I'm 14. What happened...I was skiing in France with my school and we decided to go down a black slope. I am quite an experienced skier and I like black slopes so it was quite ordinary to me. We were about half way down when some guy smashed into me. We rolled about 200 feet down the mountain. I passed out on impact with the guy and when I woke up I was surrounded by people gasping and looking shocked. So I looked down at my leg to see it sticking out at the most disgusting angle ans surrounded in a pool of blood. I quickly realised how much pain I was in. My shoulder, lower back, neck, wrist and leg were throbbing. I went in and out of consciousness whilst being taken to hospital. I had so many x-rays and MRI scans. It turned out I had a slipped disk in my back, 4 broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, mildly sprained my neck and fractured my wrist. But the best injury was my leg. my knee cap broke into 2 pieces and one of those pieces came through the skin. I cracked my shin bone in 5 seperate places and dislocated my ankle (the bone came through the skin). I've had 5 operations and am going to be on crutches for 2 more months (already been on them for 3 months). So I was just wondering if anybody else has had any skiing accidents this year??? more

Voting Question: What are the options for effective exercise with minimal leg joints impact?

I'm recovering from a broken calcerneum (heel bone). I couldn't weight bear for six weeks, and have then had six weeks to build up to 100% weight bearing. Before I broke my heel I used to go running and walk a lot, so the lack of exercise has been driving me mad. I can walk now, but if I go any distance my foot really aches once I get into bed, and I still haven't attempted running more than a hundred yards as it really pulls on the back of my foot. I've got my final fracture clinic appointment in a week and a half, and hopefully will be given the all clear, in which case I'd like some advice on exercise I can do to build back up to normal strength as soon as possible. However, just to complicate things (!), I broke my heel through falling 15ft, and at the same time the opposite knee took a battering. I'm still waiting for this to be assessed in case of cruciate ligament damage, which would require surgery, and months of limited activity for that leg. In which case I'd get REALLY desperate! I know the obvious answer is swimming, but a) I'm pretty crap at swimming and not a huge fan and b) I have broad shoulders for a girl, and when I was on crutches got very muscly which look horrible, and I'm worried that lots of swimming would have the same effect. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. (Sorry this is so long...) more

Resolved Question: Have you ever been a fan of Julie Andrews?

Just laugh----doesn't do any good to cry. Julie Andrews turns 69 - To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1 last year, Actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favourite Things" from the legendary movie, "Sound Of Music". Here are the lyrics she used: Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These are a few of my favourite things. Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings, These are a few of my favourite things. When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad, I simply remember my favourite things, And then I don't feel so bad. Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring, These are a few of my favourite things. Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin', Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin', And we won't mention our short shrunken frames, When we remember our favourite things. When the joints ache, When the hips break, When the eyes grow dim, Then I remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad. Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores! more

Resolved Question: Quite a complex question...wrist ligament injury?

Im just hoping that on the off chance maybe someone out there is a doctor or has had experience with this... On the 4th of March i broke my wrist (distal radius) snowboarding and tore the scapholunate ligament. I had surgery on the 8th (in Canada) to repair this ligament which consisted of placing a pin to hold the bones in place and sewing the ligament together. Last week i went to the fracture clinic for a check up cause my wrist was clicking and apparently the operation was performed wrong using too few pins and the bones weren't placed in the correct position. It's began healing in this position and the dr says its too late to operate again so i'll just have to deal with it (he wasn't exactly a people person and didn't give much info atall). As a result of this i'll most likely get arthritis very soon (probably a couple years but he didn't really say) and eventually it could become so painful that the only thing to do would be to fuse my hand in a position so it wouldn't move/hurt. I'm only 18 and im sure im going to need my hand in the future so am a little concerned about this outcome.. Is there ANYTHING else that can be done? I've read about reconstructive operations where they graft tendons/ligaments? Surely there is something, i mean they can sew hands back on after serious car accidents ect... Has anyone had experience with this? Or maybe been told nothing could be done later to find there was? My neighbor was told the same about her knee and after second and third opinions it turns out there was and now she's basically back to normal... Thanks for reading and any advice appretiated. more

Resolved Question: Please help, really bad pain?

This happened around 9ish and I managed to walk home after lessons, but now my knees are really sore and feel as if they are burning up, they are really swollen and I can hardly walk on them. What should I do? Do you think I could of broken or fractured anything as it is really painful? Thanks xxxxx more

Resolved Question: Anyone fractured their 5th metatarsal toe bone in their foot and what did you do about it?

Think I might've got a stress fracture to one of the metatarsal bones in my foot. You know, the kind of injury footballers or athletes get. I've been doing a lot of walking but didn't build up gradually, so I suppose I deserve this! Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I started to get pain along the outer edge of my foot just past the base of my little toe and it gradually got worse. It doesn't seem to be getting any better and I've been putting painkilling gels on it and taking painkillers. It could be a fractured 5th metatarsal bone, which I've had before - pain is similar. I've heard it isn't necessary to have a plaster cast (pot) on as it'll usually heal on it's own if the pain can be eased with painkillers. I'm using tubigrip up to my knee to support the foot. I really don't want to spend any more time at the doctor's surgery or having xrays at hospital as I spent almost a whole year having operations last year. Has anyone had this type of injury and did it heal without a cast on it?I forgot to say that there's no swelling - never has been any and no bruising. It doesn't hurt when I'm sitting or lying down or when I put painkilling gel on. It only hurts when I walk or stand on it (weight-bearing), so I'm not absolutely sure I've fractured anything, just guessing because it feels the same as a previous injury. Oh, and I'm not overweight either, just in case anyone asks!! more

Resolved Question: broken/fracture leg experts needed - worried :(?

Basically my dad broke his leg the other day when he misplaced his footing and all the weight went on one leg and he fratured something near or below his knee - crushing it and the doctor said that they may have to put wires through the sides of the knee if they do that he may have to go into another hospital or he may have only plates put in at the same hospital...they say he will wait up to 5 days for the swelling to go down and then operate, then another couple of days observation... so 2 weeks basically. His pulse was around 62 when he came in but gradually got to around 84 now his blood pressure has stayed around 120-140. How is it looking? I am very distressed...doctor says he cant work for 3 months and he cant use legs until 6 weeks btw hes like 46-48 im not sure more

Resolved Question: Have i ground to sue the hospital?

8 weeks ago i fell in the kitchen and had to call for an ambulance, told them that i hurt from my ankle to just above the knee, They took an x ray and said my leg was broke, they took the plaster off after just 2 weeks, i went to my doctor and said the ankle was still swollen, she found out they never x rayed my ankle in the first place , she arranged to get the ankle x ray and i found out i had fractured my ankle and have been trying to walk on it for 8 weeks no wonder it was swollen and painful more

Resolved Question: WHY should the sadistic freaks that abused, tortured and murdered Baby P, be allowed anonymity?

Read what happened to this poor innocent angel, and answer me this-why should these evil abusers be able to hide away? I couldn't read the whole thing, I couldn't see the words for tears. I have put in a link to the full story, and a link to the picture of this poor little angel. At last, he can feel no more pain. Haringey council and social services have blood on their hands. EVIL: Mum cried crocodile tears DISTRAUGHT: Witness feared to act By Daniel Sanderson, 16/11/2008 TODAY the News of the World finally reveals the COMPLETE and UNTOLD horror of what really happened to tragic abuse victim Baby P. Our chilling dossier, froma 15-year-old girl who WITNESSED the stepdad's sickening torture, damns bungling social workers who failed to step in. The terrified teenager said: "What went on was sadistic. Social Services have blood on their hands." Horrors The full litany of horrors inflicted on tragic Baby P will chill every decent human being to the core. Sickening new details totally DAMN the little boy’s wicked tormentors and expose the staggering extent of FAILURE by bungling social workers and doctors who let him die alone and terrified in his bloodstained cot at 17 months old. Through the eyes of a key prosecution witness who actually discovered the body we expose the sheer brutality meted out to Baby P by his evil stepdad and covered up by his callous 27-year-old mum. The 15-year-old source lived at the family’s filthy, flea-infested north London council house with human excrement smeared across the walls and a putrid stench of stale urine that choked your throat. Still racked with guilt that she felt too terrified to act at the time, the teenager told how the stepdad: SLICED off the tot’s fingertips with a Stanley knife and wrenched off his little nails with pliers. SMACKED his private parts with a shoe. PRESSED down on his windpipe so hard he turned blue. BIT the tot all over to ‘train’ the family’s vicious dogs to attack. DROPPED him 6ft onto the floor. GRABBED him by the throat and tossed him into his cot, RAMMED a bottle into his mouth so hard it cut his lips. Of all the vile cruelty the girl witnessed, the most horrifying scene was the one that crippled Baby P, leaving him paralysed from the waist down. His warped step- father, a 32-year-old Satanist—convicted of allowing the child to die along with the mum and a paedophile lodger—was watching the Jeremy Kyle TV show with Baby P stretched across his knees. The witness said: “He sat smirking on the sofa, smoking cannabis and playing with Baby P like he was a rag doll. Then I suddenly heard a loud crack that echoed through the house as the baby’s little backbone snapped in half. Monster cut off Baby P's finger tips, pulled out nails with pliers, wrapped him in blankets to dehydrate him, smacked him between the legs with a shoe and trained rottweiler to bite his head “He let out a gut- wrenching scream. It was so loud I got up and went into the garden and put my hands over my ears to block it out.” Incredibly the terrible injury went unnoticed by social workers AND paediatrician Dr Sabah Al Zayyat. The doctor also failed to notice eight fractured ribs and two missing fingernails. The 15-year-old then revealed what finally sealed Baby P’s grim fate in August, 2007—a night of constant crying that disturbed the awful household. She said: “He was wailing and wailing in his cot. He just wouldn’t stop. But he’d been lying in his urine and faeces for days. “Then the stepdad came down and said, ‘I’ll sort it.’ He went into the room, slammed the door shut and suddenly the crying stopped.” the rest of the story: http://www.arrse.co.uk/cpgn2/Forums/viewtopic/p=2257551.html Photos of the beautiful baby: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7732961.stm PHOTOS OF THE 'MOTHER' AND STEP 'FATHER' http://www.dailysquib.co.uk/?c=117&a=1551 more

Resolved Question: Confused: How long can you live with a stress fracture? ?

If anyone out there has any advice please share!! Any sports/fitness workers or physios?? About 3 months ago, I pulled a muscle whilst in an aerobics class (we were pulsing/kicking out our legs, bent at the knee and diagonally backwards...) I cramped up the opposite leg whilst trying to get the moving leg doing the right thing- result? the cramp pain left me with pain in my lower legs. For over 3 months now. I left them for 2 months before resorting to see the GP, by then they had gotten a little worse. I found it hard to walk. The GP did an x-ray and told me it is not shin splints. They have gotten slightly better since as I stopped high impact excercise for a week, but still manage to put me back to square one every time I try to run/jump/skip/anything with impact. She (my GP) has suggested I go to get a bone scan to see if its not a fracture, -but come on, 3 months and I am now exercising some high impact, surely if it was a fracture for that degree of time my leg would have fallen off by now!! Or at the very least have progressively gotten worse, not gotten worse for 2 months, then died down a bit for a month (following resting it). I get the feeling my GP thinks I am complaining about nothing- this really hurts, I tried to massage it at one point and it turned into a bruse!! Its not as sore to touch now, (just to add, it was never ever swollen) but it is far from better. I called NHSDirectt who told me it could be deep vein thrombosis (not for 3 months its not!! even I know that!!) and also didn't have a clue what shin splints were.... Yes, I did speak to a doctor. Has anyone got any ideas on what it could be? I will be seeing my GP asap but this is beyond a joke, 3 months of pain and no one knows what it is?!Bone scan is in the post as my GP asked for it friday when they discovered it was not shin splints. Medical advice is zero. No one has suggested anything, wouldn't mind some advice but they wont give any until they have a diagnosis and they don't know what it is as its showing up as nothing! more
