Ginger Sickness Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: How to beat morning sickness?

Hiya Im 6 weeks pregnant and for the past week or so, I have been feeling soo sick, not only in the morning, just all the time, im also tired and irratable and hungry only for certain things. I know it normally passes by the first trimester but Ive got ages to go until then and I work 9-5 and I am a mother to a 2 year old boy. I had this with my son from week 8-11 where I could barely move, I lay in bed for 2 weeks, eating toast, drinking camomile tea, but this time I cant take it quite so easy! I have actually thrown up several times, Ive tried crackers, ginger biscuits, but they leave a yucky taste in my mouth, everything turns my stomach, smells, textures, things leaving tastes, although sometimes I do get cravings for certain things. Im struggling as I feel sick 24/7 Any advice that doesnt involve food? ie - Travel sickness bracelet, pills from the doc etc? Thanks Thanks! more

Voting Question: Are there any other ways to treat car sickness in dogs?

My dog gets severely ill when we go for car rides. She is a Basset Hound, and she is a dry mouthed Basset. That means that she will not drool unless she is very sick or anxious. She doesn't want to go near the car, and when she is in the car she starts to drool excessively before we even start the car. I've tried to give her ginger, but she does not care for the taste. I don't want to give her drugs. Please be serious and no stupid answers. It's not worth your time or mine. Thanks. more

Voting Question: Morning sickness at 15 weeks pregnant?

Hi everyone. I'm 15+2 or 15+5 depending on which scan date I go by and I'm still throwing up about an hour after I get out of bed every morning. This is my second pregnancy and with my daughter I threw up maybe four times throughout the entire pregnancy around 8 weeks but it disappeared. This time, it seems like it's here for a while. The problem mainly occurs when my mouth is dry and I have a glass of orange juice or water when I wake up. I try to stick to water so it's easier to throw up and to see if it will settle my stomach but it never does. I throw up 1-2 times a day and sometimes it comes on so quick I can't make it to the toilet so short of waiting by the toilet for my daily dose of annoyance and keeping a bowl handy, it's a pain. I don't like milk (milk makes me sick anyway) and I don't like ginger so is there anything else that will help? It seems to be just fluids that make me sick. I try to have dry toast or a cracker in the morning but eating makes me feel sick until around 10am. Does anyone have any remedies? I'm aware this could go on pretty much the entire pregnancy so I'd like to know how to deal with it. Thank you x more

Voting Question: How do you deal with morning sickness and fatigue?

I'm 9 wks along, and I've been so so so tired, that I can hardly do anything. I'm almost always nauseous so I feel like I just can't do anything. I feel like I've tried everything, ginger ale, crackers, frequent, smaller meals, fresh air, walks, making sure I'm getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, taking my prenatal vitamins daily and eating healthy.. This is my 3rd baby.. but I didn't have such a hard time with the first 2. Is there anything I could be doing that would make me feel better? And that will give me some energy? I'm miserable! more

Resolved Question: Hungry all the time 4 weeks pregnant?

Hiya, im 4 weeks pregnant, I feel constantly hungry, whenever Im feeling my belly is a bit empty I get such a feeling like I want to throw up! The thing is i just want to eat eat eat and Im wanting to eat real food every few hours - like baked potatoes, filled rolls, salad, pasta, chicken (im trying to keep it fairly healthy) I know eating ginger biscuits is recommended to munch on throughout the day but I dont think these would satisfy me! Is this normal, does anyone else feel like this? Im scared im going to put on 20 stone! With my son I ddnt get morning sickness until week 8 and I just felt sick all the time and hungry and the only thing I ate/drank was camomile tea and buttered toast dont know why, thats just what I felt like! more

Resolved Question: Do these sounds like pregnancy symptoms?

The morning woke up at 6:30am with what I thought may be a sinus headache or the start of a migraine (I work on the computer a lot and I figured it triggered it). But no, the headache stayed mild, I felt tired and as I was relaxing on the couch I was hit with bad nausea, it lasted almost all morning. I was pale and when I got tried of running to the bathroom to vomit, I laid there with a bucket. Its noon now and was able to drink some chicken noodle soup, crackers, honey and a lil ginger and it was okay. I didn't feel the urge to vomit until I opened the jar of peanut butter and suddenly the urge to eat left and I wanted to vomit again. I have been pretty healthy and I don't usually get sick. I work out 3 times a week, husband and I are pretty clean, I take my vitamins and usually drink plenty of water. I thought it maybe food poisoning but my husband ate the same food and isn't sick. I took a pregnancy test last month and it was negative (but I think I took the test at the wrong time in my cycle), it is now only one week until I get my expected period, but I didn't think morning sickness could happen this early unless I was really pregnant during my period. Did anyone else get morning sickness earlier than 4 weeks? I didn't think that could happen. Doctors appt is scheduled. We are leaving the door open for pregnancy as we don't use birth control, however not sure it's possible with the time frame. more

Resolved Question: Horrid Morning Sickness?

I found out I was pregnant a little while ago, and of course I experienced the side of morning (afternoon, evening and night) sickness a few days after. But now it's getting to the point where I'm constantly nauseated and my mouths watering. I don't vomit immediately, but I eventually vomit most of what I consume up. I sometimes can keep a meal down if i'm lucky, but mostly all I can do is drink water and feel nauseous. I'm losing sleep over it, by running to the bathroom 3 to 4 times a night, I'm constantly trying to consume clear liquids in hopes that some of it will stay down. I've cut out iron, tried popsicles, not trying to drink carbonated drinks because even though ginger ale helps, i have a feeling it'll make my stomach do flips. I don't think it's HG because that's super severe and causes ridiculous symptoms, but I can't do anything but lie in bed or run to the bathroom. I froze my nipples off in the shower last night because anything remotely warm would make my stomach churn. I can't do much, I'm constantly nauseated, and my mouth is watering constantly. Help? *is running to the bathroom real quick* brb to check your responses ^^never mind, i couldn't hold it in long enough to go through all the steps to post it without running. ugh, someone, help? i thought it was fast food that was making me queasy, then i quit smoking because that just became downright gag-worthy to me, and i bought all healthy foods, but all of that money i just spent on good nutritious food, is now down the toilet :[ more

Voting Question: can i take ginger root the night before to prevent morning sickness?

I'm 5 weeks along, and my nausea is getting worse, and I am extremely afraid of throwing up. Im a baby when it comes to throwing up, so i bought some ginger root, which i read everywhere it helps morning sickness and nausea, and i was wondering if i took it the night before if it would still help or if i would have to take it in the morning when, because a lot of times when i throw up it happens when im sleeping i rarely ever throw up while im awake, so i was wondering if that would help please let me know so that I know what to do. thank you more

Resolved Question: Exhausted by Morning Sickness?

Hi all, im 14 weeks pregnant and have had morning sickness since about week 4. In that time its gotten worse and better and now worse again. At one point it was so bad i was admitted to hospital and given IV fluids and anti-nausea medication. Since hospitalisation its slowly been getting worse again - im almost constantly retching - and can only keep down abotu half of what i eat in a day. By mid/late afternoon its pretty much throwing up every hour or so - regardless of what i eat or drink. It leaves me incredibly exhausted and emotional. Ive had lots of advice alread from "it'll be gone by the 14th week/16th week/18th week etc etc", try salty snacks/ginger/bland food/just drink lots etc etc. Nothing helps - and im at the end of my tether. Has anyone else been through this, does anyone else feel a bit gypped that whilst surrounded by glowy healthy pregnant ladies really enjoying the experience - you're constantly suffering - worrying wether you're going to sneeze or be sick and living on the brink of a good crying fit. HELP!! Any moral support appreciated :-)I have a doctors appointment for this afternoon - part of me feels really silly - surely its just morning sickness and everyone has it. Part of me wants to crawl into a hole and sleep through the next 6 months!! more

Resolved Question: Car Sickness in a 5yr old... HELP!!!?

My daughter gets car sick every now and then and I'm trying to find ways to keep it from happening... Any clues? It comes and goes without warning, sometimes involving vomiting. It can be on a 5min ride or a 1 hour ride, it doesn't matter. I've tried deep breaths, changing where she sits in the van, grinning, Children's Pepto Bismol, Benadryl. Eating bread, not eating at all... drinking water, ginger ale, soda and milk. I just don't know what else to do and 2 pediatricians tell me that there's nothing medically that can be done at this age, but she suffers anxiety now when we have to get in the car because she's afraid she'll get sick. Are there any other possible things anyone knows to try? more

Resolved Question: Terrible Morning Sickness?

I am 10 weeks 5 days pregnant with baby #2. With my 1st pregnancy I was really sick a few weeks, then it tapered off, then I was better by 12-13 weeks. This time, I started feeling sick around 6 weeks and will have 1 or 2 "good days" but most days it is a struggle to get out of bed. Every time I have one of these "good days" I assume the morning sicknes sis on its way out. But it seems every 3 days or so I have a day that is so bad I am throwing up everything I eat, drink, within minutes of eating/drinking it. I know each pregnancy is different, but this is literally driving me crazy. I lost about 3-4 lbs (the most at one point was only 5 lbs) I just had my 1st appointment last week and my midwife just told me how she was sick all 10 months of 2 of her pregnancies (not very reassuring). I just dont know what else to do so I suppose I am looking for guidance, reassurance, something to get me through this...Anyone who has experienced "morning sickness" I'm sure can relate. I fel terrible because due to this severe sickness I do not think I can have any more kids after this. This is too debilitating, painful, and depressing. OH! I tried everything. Crackers, ginger, gingerale, b vitamins, unisom (still use to sleep), sea bands, blah, blah, blah...NOTHING works. Today is terrible which enticed me to write this...I think because i am using a midwife they believe in natural remedies and minimal medical intervention...so no prescription meds at all yet. I think I will be calling tomorrow to beg for something.... more

Voting Question: A few questions...TTC and VERY nervous about morning sickness!?

Hello, I am going to start TTC and I am VERY nervous! Not of being a mom or labor and deliver, but for morning sickness.I've heard lots of stories and to be honest, none of them are very inspiring, lol.I've had a friend go into the hospital when she was pregnant because she was vomiting none stop. I've had other friends lose massive amounts of weight due to being so sick.I have heard of a few people who haven't vomited or had nausea that bad and I am hoping I am in that range. See, I am emetophobic, so the idea of being pregnant is hard and the choice to get pregnant intentially is even more hard knowing that this is very possible.I am just so scared of being sick. It's the worst thing in the world for me! (and please, spare the "it's all worth it" or "your baby will be healthy if you are sick" crap lol) This is just really making me second guess getting pregnant but it's my dream and I cannot. I've talked to my midwife and have natural products to help with this.I am also going to pick up a anti emetic prescription at the doctors next week.I already know of the typical relivers (crackers, ginger ale etc. and everything else the baby articles include) A few questions I have is... 1. When did you start having morning sickness? 2. When did it stop? 3. Did you have nausea or vomiting during labor or after delivery and during recovery? 4. If you have used a anti emetic, which do you prefer? if you know of someone who used one, which do you prefer? I get nauseas during my periods.I wake up with a huge wave of nausea feeling so close to vomiting, but since I am emet. and strong willed to NOT vomit, lol, I ease myself back and end up not doing it (only times I have vomited is when I have been sick with a tummy virus) so HOPEFULLY, the vomiting involved is just vomiting due to being nausea and a lot of people vomit when they are nauseas instead of fight it off.Either way, I am just waiting for this stage to pass! thanks for the replies. more

Voting Question: Morning Sickness??? Please Help!?

I have had morning sickness since I was 6 weeks pregnant. I am now just over 10 weeks and nothing has changed. My doctor prescribed Diclectin but it was only good the first week. Now she increased the dosage and it still doesn't help! I have tried everything! Gingerale, ginger tea, crackers by the bed side, sipping on water - nothing works. I have been taking a lot of naps but that doesn't work either! How did you cope with it? What else can I possibly do? Do you know when this will end? Or at least get better? Please help! more

Resolved Question: How long should morning sickness last?

Im only 5 weeks pregnant, I am supposed to start a new job in a few weeks, but cant seem to kick this nausea, I have not been throwing up but it has been getting so bad I do spend alot of time with a bucket near by. I can hardly eat. It last from when I wake up, gets worse nearing noon, then lets up a tiny bit till about 5 pm, then is light enough I can actually get up and do some housework. Resolved Question: pregnant and so sick! i ended up in the hospital last night.?

i am about two months pregnant and i am so sick. i need some advice cause i feel horrible. this morning sickness is worse than the last time i was pregnant. i have tried all of the suggestions you hear all the time like eat small meals throughout the day and ginger and eating before getting out of bed....all of it saltines even make me throw up. movement makes me throw up like when my husband gets in and out of bed the movement makes me sick. i went to the hospital last night cause it got bad i started to get numbness in my legs and arms and my face. i was really disoriented. almost like i was drunk like when you get so drunk you have to hold onto the floor cause you feel like if you don't you feel like you'll fall off the ground. double vision, a lot of throwing up, diarreah. just everything and when i got there they hooked me up to and iv gave me zolfran or whatever it's called- gave me two doses and it didn't help. so then they gave me phenegran and it helped a little but still wasn't enough so they gave me another dose of that and it helped and then they gave me a perscription for it and it helps but i still am sick. i am just worried that the baby isn't getting enough cause i'm not keeping enough food down. when i finally went to the hospital i wasn't able to keep anything down really for about three days before that. i just want any suggestions that you don't hear all the time- anything out of the ordinary that someone has tried and it's worked cause i've tried all of the usaul stuff and nothing has helped. or if anyone has an idea of what's wrong if it's something other that just morning sickness that i can ask my doctor to look into. i'd really appreciate it. thnx more

Voting Question: When should I call my doctor about morning sickness?

I am 15 weeks pregnant on Saturday. I have had morning sickness since the 5th week of pregnancy and it's gotten worse. My dr has me taking 50mg of B6 and half a unisom pill to help relieve the nausea..it's stopped working...I'm nauseated no matter what I do...Even just changing position in my sleep wakes me up with waves of feeling like I'm going to vomit. My mother did not have morning sickness this far into her pregnancy. Hers stopped around the 10th week of pregnancy. I know every person and every pregnancy is different, but I need some relief. I have things to do but just moving around makes me nauseated. I drink water and tea all day to try to keep my nausea at bay but nothing works. Can I just get some opinions...should I go ahead and call the doctor about my morning sickness or just wait it out another week and see if it gets better? Any help will be appreciated..**I can't stand ginger, never could even before i was pregnant**Just wanted to let everyone know, I called my dr and they are going to prescribe me phenergan to help with my nausea.....They told me if the phenergan doesn't help they will have to admit me to the hospital for IV fluids and monitoring more

Resolved Question: What's wrong with my stomach?

For 2 weeks tomorrow i've suffered terrible stomach ache's and diarrheah EVERY DAY. im 17 and it's horrible and im in loads of pain and feel really sick too but I haven't actually been sick (and touch wood I wont be coz i'm sickness phobic!) I do suffer from IBS anyway but this is way different! Sorry about the detail but im gonna have to go into it... My 'normal' IBS, is that I have terrible gas and bloatedness after any food (tried getting rid of certain foods but just anything triggers it ..literally anything) i get mucus when I go to the loo and often have terrible diarreah. I get this at least once a week but more often than not a few times. These past 2 weeks, ive suffered diarreah after anything at anytime, daily! So i took imodium which blocked me for a day where i could eat and not have diarrhea but still have the pain. so every other day ive been having it recently! Yesterday all I ate was a slice of dry bread and it gave me horrific stomach ace and an upset stomach, even this morning I woke up having eaten no food and had an upset stomach twice! Since this morning iv drank a glass of ribena, eaten a slice of dry bread and 4 ginger nut biscuits (my theory was ginger would settle my stomach) but now its gurgling, im in LOADS of pain, im running to the loo, my last stool was very small and pale coloured, Yellow/green when i wiped and really hurt my bum!! (in fact its still hurting!) i feel like i need to do more but cant actually do it, i know if i were to eat/drink more it would be diarreah again! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME :( doctors keep blaming my ibs but this is so weird and never lasts THIS long!!! Ive also lost almost a stone, ive gone from 8 stone 1 to 7 stone 2! more

How can i get rid of this awful nausea and what foods did you find you were able to eat when you had nausea? more

Voting Question: Morning sickness...still severe at 13 weeks...help!?

I'm 13 weeks tomorrow, I know it's not going to stop right away but I thought it would lessen a bit. My doctor suggested 1/2 pill of unisom and 50mgs of b6 every 6 hours. I've done that and now it seems that it's wearing off alot sooner than it was when I started it...only a week ago....Before I was unable to change positions in the bed without getting sick....and when I started taking it, I was much better, but now im back to not being able to change positions in the bed without getting sick even with the meds...I'm also on advair, albuterol, and nebulizer treatments for my asthma....I don't know if they are contributing or not....but once the nausea has stopped I can eat and feel great I mean it's so bad I haven't gained one single pound..or I gain and then lose it again..(Which is good because I'm not supposed to gain more than 15 lbs..i'm considered obese)......but if anyone has any advice...it would be greatly appreciated... I can't stand ginger ale (even before I was pregnant), and crackers don't help either.... more

Voting Question: How do you cope with the death of your dog?

About a month ago my dog, Angel, passed away. This was really hard for me because she's been with me for a really long time. I got her when I was in fifth grade and now I'm a freshman in high school. The vets say she was poisoned with anti-freeze (which I don't get because we don't even own anti-freeze) so there was nothing they could do except put her to sleep. We've been spending a lot of money lately (I just had surgery and so did my dad, plus I've got type one diabetes, so you can see how that would cost quite a bit) and we couldn't afford to put her to sleep. She was in the vet for a while until they allowed us to take her home. That night my parents took care of her as much as they could (I actually hadn't been fully aware of how sick she had been, and I thought she would be better soon, so my parents didn't want to show me what shape she was in). The next morning my mom woke me up and told me to say goodbye to Angel. I felt (and still feel) quite guilty because I was just so scared and unwilling to accept it that I didn't want to go see her. My dad took her to be buried, so I never really got to say goodbye. I would've been happier if she had been able to go peacefully and I feel really bad that she had to go through all of that suffering before she could finally pass on. I feel like it's my fault, even though my parents assure me it isn't. I don't feel I spent as much time with her as I could. We have two other dogs and one got very sick. We sent her to the vet and they said the only thing they could do was surgery, which still might not help her. I finally went up to my mom and asked her when Ginger (my other dog) was coming back. She told me that she wasn't because we couldn't afford the surgery. Now the last dog I have, Candy, seems to be sick. She's throwing up and her vomit is yellow. I don't want her to die because she's the last dog I have left. I'll feel really lonely if she goes too. It's like my dogs are dying one by one! What should I do? Do you think Candy's sickness is serious? How should I cope better with Angel's death and the fact that I'll never see Ginger again? Sorry for bothering you with all these questions. Things just haven't been going right at all. I'm stressed and I'm heartbroken and I just want some relief. =( I would really appreciate some advice. I obviously don't want to forget Angel or Ginger but I want to be able to think about them and be happy about the good times that we had rather than feel sad about them not being here anymore. Thank you for reading and have a nice day. Before my dogs were left outside unattended but now that two of our dogs have gotten sick my mom will keep an eye on Candy whenever she lets her out to use the bathroom or eat. more

Resolved Question: Feeling sick and very tired. What could be wrong?

Symptoms are Woke up in the morning feeling extremely groggy Very tired body, shaky feeling. Like when you have regular influenza. Very forgetful, mind is quite dull like it's in a haze Seasick feeling in my stomach now and then, get's worse and then it fades away for an hour then comes back again. Lying down doesn't help. Had mild diarhea in the afternoon, but I ate 5 hours ago and nothing else has happened but still feeling this horrible motion sickness feeling. I went out to get some aloe vera juice because I found that really helpful last time I had a stomach upset and also some ginger and some plain crackers. I hate that and an apple for dinner but still feeling funny. When I was out I nearly fainted but it may have been because I hadn't eaten. Although I don't normally have that problem if I skip a meal, that's a bit abnormal for me.er no chance of being pregnant lol more

Resolved Question: Cairn terrier witht travel sickness?

Hi, I rescued a Cairn terrier a few months ago, he's approximately twenty months old and a lively little chap. The only problem is the car sickness absolutely every journey. He isn't stressed by travelling he loves it and can't wait to get in the car when he knows we're going out, he enjoys looking out of the window and is relaxed enough to have a nap but he still throws up sometimes after minutes other times after maybe an hour. We've taken advise and starved him before going on long journeys and given him ginger tablets especially for dog car sickness but they don't work. The throwing up doesn't distress him it probably upsets us more as we don't like to see him ill, it's usually only just a small amount of bile but of course it's not pleasant and we usually cover the back seat to protect it. As we have to travel quite far most weekends and he has to come with us we'd like to cure this, more for the dog of course than us. I would love it if some one could give some advise on this problem especially if they have experienced it with their own dog. We've asked the vets advise but he hasn't been very helpful. Many thanks! more

Resolved Question: First trimester, how much is too much with morning sickness?

I'm 20 years old, 8 weeks pregnant with my first and I've had the most horrid morning sickness since I was at 4 weeks. So far it has shown no sign of getting better and the hunger pains exhaust me all day. I haven't been able to eat a meal without throwing it up and I cannot keep my prenatals down. I've tried eating small meals frequently and I have tried things like crackers and ginger ale/mint tea but I just throw up every meal no matter the size and crackers make me very sick now. I can keep down water occasionally and most of my nutrition comes from the small percent of food I don't throw up. I feel like I'm hurting my baby in a crucial time when I should be getting the vitamins and nutrients that my baby really needs. I cannot even shop for groceries or go for walks, exercise, or clean the house because I have no energy from my lack of food. I called my physicians at 5 weeks and they told me that they cannot see patients until they are at 8-9 weeks and have told me that my symptoms are common and should go away. They will not see me until the end of next week. I feel like I have a tapeworm! I am miserable! I feel dizzy and weak all day and am loosing weight. How do I know if this is normal morning sickness or is this something worse? Should I ask for anti-nausea pills? I need help or some kind of relief please! more

Resolved Question: What does morning sickness feel like?

I am 5 weeks pregnant and I am TERRIFIED of morning sickness. It is a deathly phobia of mine.. to vomit. But I need to overcome this phobia. I've tried hypnosis etc and nothing works. I go to bed with slices of lemon, toothpaste, chewing, saltine crackers, lemon water, ginger snaps, sprite zero and ginger ale by my bedside. How do I prevent morning sickness? Could anybody help me? I know I need to grow up for the baby's sake but I'm very scared of being sick... Also when does it kick in? Because I haven't felt anything yet. Just have been excreting constantly more
