Resolved Question: What is the cause of my headache?

I have this headache that isn't very painful per se, but it's just worrying me. Here is a list of things and symptoms that I feel and have done to try and relieve myself. 1. Pressure and pain on the forehead that tends to move. 2. Sometimes I get pressure on the sides of my nose and cheek. 3. Current stiffness on the nose and cheek. 4. Tylenol (Extra strength) doesn't work even with almost the full 24 hour dosage (4 within 24 hours) 5. Cold Compress on my forehead only provides very quick relief for a few seconds. 6. I took a Sinus and Nasal Congestion Pain Reliever for Sinus Headache and the pain is still there, and so is the stiffness. 7. I have no aura, or cravings, or one sided constant pain, or any other common symptoms of migraine. 8. I took Magnesium from a Vitamin Dietary Supplement. So can anyone tell me, what is the cause of my headache? I feel as if I'm sick, not too sick, just like a cold or flu. I have some warmth on my head (which increases when I remove a cold compress) And the CVS Non-Drowsy Nasal Decongestant PE that I took about an hour ago still hasn't worked or failed to work. And it's worrying the hell out of me. more

Resolved Question: Have anyone personally tried Botox injection for migraine? Any relief?

I'm suffering migraine from last 25 years, and had used all kind of options to get relief e.g. herbal and homeopathy, rehab, exercise, and diet control but nothing worked for me. I hardly ever remember any day without the headache. Many people are suggesting me to try botox, but I want to know if anyone of you had tried this injection? more

Resolved Question: What do I do about my terrible headaches?

It has been over three weeks now that I have been experiencing very painful headaches. So painful that they are debilitating. They seem to be worse when I am up and about. All I want to do is sleep because it is the little relief I receive. I have been to many doctors and a neurologist. He diagnosed me with migraines. I am not sure thats what I have though because I don't experience many of the symptoms. I am sixteen so he said that migraines in my age group can be atypical. He gave me topamax as a preventative and midrin for pain. The midrin does not work at all, but because of my age no one will prescribe me anything stronger. I am just lying here suffering and no one seems to understand. Any enlightenment on the situation? more

Resolved Question: Why does my head hurt? What can I do?

I have a family history of chronic headaches, not migraines but really bad bad headaches. I have also had them for as long as I can remember. For four days so far, I have had the most painful head pressure I have ever experienced. It fills the entire upper half of my head. If I look to the side with my eyes only, it is very excruciating. If my jaw is at all clenched, even just slightly, it hurts. It hurts more when I walk than when I sit. Even really soft classical music makes my head hurt. Light doesn't bother me. I've tried Tylenol with codine and also ibuprofen and neither have worked at all. I would go see a doctor, but I don't have the time to see one for about four days. I need a little pain relief. I thought maybe it could be congestion causing the pain, but I've had that before and it's not the same. So, two questions. What might be causing this? What can I do for pain relief? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Please help! Why am I having such horrible neck pain?

I get migraines and headaches a lot...but since Sunday night my neck on the back right side hurts terribly, I was walking around the store with my friend and I kept getting head rushes and lightheaded. It feels tense and hurts into my ear and up my head.. I clench my jaw and I am getting a wisdom tooth on that side could that have anything to do with it? I took Excedrin which worked for like 2 hours, and I took Aleve like an hour ago...seems to help a little. Put a hot pad on it, not much relief. I am just in so much pain. :( How do I relieve this? What is going on with my head/neck? Thank you very much!! :) more

Voting Question: If there such a thing as perpetual tension headache?

Most people have migraine and tension headache episodes. Meaning, they come and go, even if it is often. For me, I have this feeling every second that a band is wrap around my head. It's like the arteries on the surface of my brain is always constricting. Sometimes, I feel a buzzing in head, like blood is moving through those constricted arteries (though I'm not sure that's what is happening). This has been happening since I was a teenager (about the time of puberty -13). I'm 34 now. Doctors can't find anything wrong with me. I had MRI's. Was prescribed muscle relaxants. Nothing worked. And those medications are for temporary relief. My headache is there all the time. About 9 years ago, I remember the headache alleviated for one day (for some unknown reason), and for that one day, it felt like heaven. No doctors have heard of such a condition. more

Voting Question: Cluster Headache!! which medicine works best?

Ive been experiencing what i think is a cluster headache for the past 2 days, ( left sided temple pain), i started out with tylenol, and nothing, then i went to Excedrin migraine, no results, now i'm using ibuprofen pm to try to get some sleep but have decided to give in and see the dr. for a rx, i'm just wondering what would be the best prescription medication for a cluster headache and nothing expensive since i don't have health insurance, please help i need some relief. more

Resolved Question: Any suggestions for migraines & neck/shoulder pain & stiffness?

I've had migraines most my life and am taking topamax and celexa as preventatives. They aren't helping much. I have at least 1 a week. I have constant pain & stiffness in my neck & shoulders & general joint stiffness & muscle aches when I wake up in the morning. I also have a lot of low back pain. I stress over everything and grind my teeth a lot so they hurt and contribute even more to the neck, shoulder, and headache pain. I also feel fatigue quite often. I have 3 young children so I kind of understand being tired but it's excessive for me and has happened for the last 15 years or so,long before I had children, so I don't think it's related to that. I would appreciate some help. I've had so many doctor visits and have done a lot of research but really haven't found any relief. more

Resolved Question: Can keeping your hair in tight braids or pony tails or wearing headbands cause headaches?

Resolved Question: Migraine Headaches anyone get any relief?

I have been a migraine sufferer for 6 years now and I have constant headaches everyday. I also have alot of neck and shoulder pain. I do have scoliosis went to physical therapy many times it helped alot but I only get to go 3 months out of the year with my insurance. My migraines have been so bad in the last week I've wound up in the Emergency Room and Immediate care 2 days in a row last week. It got better for a day then last night another migraine but finally it eased up I took a sleeping pill and woke up feeling alot better just a headache, shoulder and neck pain today but no migraine Thank Goodness! I am going to my doctor tomorrow finally it takes forever to get an appointment I was just wondering to all the migraine sufferers out there did you find any relief? What has been helping you? The dr at immediate care said I needed to see neurologist and be prescribed an antidepressant to help prevent them from happening. Thanks for anyones input! more

Resolved Question: Terrible headaches behind my right eye?

Okay, so I have epilepsy, and my entire life I've had terrible headaches. For a while now (maybe a year?) I've been getting a new kind behind my right eye. It feels like there's pressure building up behind it, and the only way I can describe it to others is to say it feels like it would be a relief to dig my eye out with a spoon. Migraines run in my family, but when my mother gets them she experiences vision problems, sensitivity to noise, and vomiting. I've only been sick with this type of headache once, and I've never experienced blurred vision or anything. Am I having migraines, or is this another type of headache and what could be causing it? more

Resolved Question: Are there any new treatments for Migraine headaches?

I started having Migraines at 15. By the time I was 20 I was having them everyday. They just vary in pain levels; sometimes I have the full blown; pounding, cant, eat, sleep, nausea, light sensitivity etc. Where all I can to is hide in a dark, quiet room with an ice bag on my head, these can last for 3 days. While other times, it is moderate pain that I can treat with pain medication and be able to somewhat manage the day. I never drive while on narcotics. (I just don't want that to be an issue) Over the years I have been to numerous neurologists, had every conceivable scan and test. I have been in pain clinics, in Chicago, San Fransisco and Utah. I have been on every drug or herb that promised relief- or prevention, nothing helps. When Imitrex was introduced, it sounded like a miracle. The very first injection stopped my heart; even though I have no heart problems. It was a blessing that I was in the hospital when they tried it, so they could get my heart going again. Because of that extreme reaction I was cautioned to never try Triptans again. So I cannot use; Relpax, Axert, Frova, Amerge, Maxalt, Zomig or Treximet. I have heard that Botox helps. But there is no way I can afford the hundreds it would cost. Is anyone aware of anything new- I'm honestly at the end of my road- Thirty years of constant pain is too long. Thanks for your answers! Dares to care- I have also tried chiropractors, Some who did full adjustments, others sho did little clicking thing in my ears, saying they were minimpulating the small bones i my ears, neck etc. physical therasipts, acupunurists. I honestly don't know of a specialty I haven't seen. more

Voting Question: pregnancy migraines!!!?

hello im 15 weeks pregnant and about around week 12 i started getting severe migraines. Somtimes i cant even move because the pain is too much to handle. I know migraines are common during pregnancy but these are lasting me hours, the longest one lasted 13 hours!!! While i know Tylenol is ok to take during pregnancy, id rather not take it. I'd like to avoid all medicine possible. Is it normal for the headaches to be as intense as they are and lasting for as long as they do?? When do pregnancy migraines go away?? and anyone have any natural remedies i can try im open to anything for relief, this has truely taken over my everyday living.what makes tylenol safe to take? more

Voting Question: day 1-3 flu like symptoms 3-8 fever continues. can anyone give me any advice or personal experiences to help?

Ok I am under the impression i am going through codeine withdrawals but i am not positive. I took low doses of Vicodin for a period of roughly two months for serious migraines i have had my whole life. i took about 1000 mg vicodin (containing 10mg codeine) a week sometimes more up to 3000-4000 and sometimes less. 9 days ago i had a terrible migraine so for instant relief I chewed about 200mg of vicodin at around five pm. the very next evening all of a sudden i get hit with chills, sweats, fever, weakness, muscle aching, muscle shaking, dehydration, headaches and more but no nausea or vomiting or loss of appetite. Most of these symptoms lasted for about two and a half to three days. Most of the symptoms passed but the fever still has not, and i think i am still dehydrated at times. i have had a fever for 8 days going on 9 and i am getting concerned. i haven't taken any vicodin since i chewed the little bit. I had none of these symptoms until i stopped taking the vicodin. Im not positive if these are withdrawal symptoms but i did a lot of research and it seems to be. but the length of time of this fever is concerning me. Sometimes i dont have a fever and i feel fine and other times my fever gets as high as 102.8 I take Tylenol to keep it down, and it works most of the time. I want to know if anyone has gone through anything similar or might know anything that can help me. I have considered going to the doctor but i dont want to quite yet because he did not prescribe the vicodin. I will go if the fever continues much longer but i would like to see if anyone here can help first. more

Voting Question: What do my symptoms mean? I feel ill all the time. I take 19 tablets a day but still I am suffering?

I am getting no where with the Dr's. I have been ill since 2001 . I had an attack which made me sick, dizzy couldn't walk, very bad headaches. I then carried on having lots of attacks of this. I have a nystagmus in my left eye. (jerking) I have had many tests and told I have Vestibular Migraine but now I have had an attack which hurt my spine. I turned around and got an incredible pain in my spine and couldn't see or move my arms. I was in hospital for 5 days unable to get out of bed. I was on Morphine and lots of other pain relief When I came out of hospital I was in a wheelchair and now 4 months on I still can't walk far or sit for long. I am in constant agony. My back is in spasm. I spend all my time with hot water bottles and pain killers. Physio isn't helping and I can only walk with the use of a stick for a very short time. I still have bouts of dizziness but I just don't know what else to do ??? I take tremadol and anatriptoline as well as clonazapam, and propanalol, Please can someone give me some ideas of how I can get better or what it is??? more

Resolved Question: Drug interaction question?

I am a sufferer of chronic migraines. My neurologist prescribed 20 mg tablets of relpax and 375 mg tablets of naproxen to be taken together, one each, at the onset of a migraine. I did just that a few hours ago and it did not seem to do too much for my headache. The relpax can be repeated within an hour or two, so I did that, only to find very little relief. I obtained vicodin in case the going got really bad. I am hesitant to take it on account of the other medications I took today, but the relief is sorely needed as it may be impossible for me to fall asleep like this. I used the drug interaction checker on medscape.com to see if this combination would present any potential dangers, and none were found. Obviously I want the perspective of informed people as opposed to machines, because who knows what kind of discrepancies there are... Anyone know anything about this combo? The relpax & naproxen were taken approx 6 hours ago, and the 2nd relpax about 4 hours ago. If the combo is safe, should I still wait to take the vicodin? I am in very severe pain. more

Voting Question: headaches, ugh, they are back! what are some possible causes?

im 33 weeks pregnant. and from about week 16-24 i had bad bad headaches daily, they were like on a schedule. i knew the exact times almost that i would get the headaches. it was twice daily on the dot. they went away finally, i never got relief because no pain medicine would help and nothing else seemed to help either. now, they are back. the past 2-3 days ive had horrible headaches! one this morning for about 3 hours, and now ive had one for around an hour. i brought it up with my doctor last time it happened and they blew me off and just told me to take tylenol (after i told them it didnt work!) so what are some possible causes? i know headaches are common during pregnancy, but these are like borderline migraines! more

Resolved Question: Has anyone found relief from pregnancy headaches simply by eating more protein?

I had completely debilitating headaches with my first pregnancy. In the 3rd trimester, when I wasn't having them anymore, I read an article that mentioned sometimes women don't eat enough protein when they're pregnant and this can cause headaches. This made sense to me because I had a total aversion to meat during my pregnancy. So the 2nd time I became pregnant, the first time I got a headache, and I'm talking horrible, 3 day long migraines that make me sick--I got the protein powder out and started drinking it in the morning and at night. It made a HUGE improvement. I recommended it to my sister when she was pregnant and it did the same for her. I'm on a protein campaign now!!! Anyone having headaches--first, make sure you're drinking enough water. If you are, try some whey protein powder. It's very hard to obtain the recommended 100 mg of protein that a pregnant woman is supposed to get by just eating regular foods, especially when you're nauseated. If anyone has headaches and they try drinking protein powders and it helps, post your comments here so that we can spread the word. Headaches during pregnancy are way worse than they have to be, and none of the advice out there does ANYTHING. Tylenol didn't help me; I made sure I was drinking enough water, so that wasn't it; cold compresses numbed the pain, but only worked if you already were dealing with a miserable migraine, did nothing to prevent it from coming on. Not enough is out there linking protein deficiency to headaches during pregnancy, and it just makes sense, because you're supposed to eat MORE protein during pregnancy, but if you're like me, you're eating LESS because of morning sickness. I hope I'm able to help someone out there going through the hell I went through. It was worse than the actual birth. more

Voting Question: What can I do for a headache that WILL NOT go away?

i've had a headache for at least 24 hours now. i've taken over the counter medicine, i've tried to sleep it off, i've had a ton of water, and nothing is helping. i do get migraines, and this is definitely a migraine headache, and yes, i've been to the doctor and have prescriptions, but right now i don't have enough money to refill that prescription. all that i feel like doing is laying down, because that's the only thing that provides even a little bit of relief, though really not much. please help, its absolutely horrible, and i really need it to go away because i have class tomorrow and have a lot of homework that i need to work on, etc. more

Resolved Question: Help with severe headaches?

I have been on Topamax since 9/05. Once I got the dosage worked out (200mg twice a day), I ceased to have migraines. I only had the occasional headache that responded to a couple ibuprofen. My insurance switched me to the generic form this fall, and for some reason it doesn't work the same way. I don't know if I am allergic to the fillers, but I started getting a lot of breakthrough headaches. Now I've stopped taking it completely. I am using Vicoden, ibuprofen, and Flexeril to help alleviate the pain, at least 4-5 days a week. Is there another alternative to Topamax that anyone has used? I'd rather avoid the pain than try to stop it with pain pills. I've already tried Effexor, amitriptyline, nortriptyline, etc with no relief. more

Resolved Question: How do I know if I need Antidepressants?

I'll try to make this short as possible but I think the information is relevant. Three months ago i had a health issue that obviously made me very anxious. I was put on 30 of cymbalta. Sometime in the middle of the treatment I found out that my health concern turned out to be nothing, so I stopped taking cymbalta after 23 days. I knew better than that, but my situational anxiety alleviated it's self so I thought I no longer neded the anti depression med. The next four days i went nutts. So I started taking it again. I started getting visual migraines which increased my anxiety so my dr. switched me to zoloft. On zoloft 50 mg then 100mg I felt awful like I was on chemo therapy or something. Dizziness blurred vision light headedness and crazy increase in anxiety and continued visual migraines. My dr wanted to try lexapro. I was growing rather frustrated with jumping from one to another cause all this started as a result of a situational depression that alleivated it's self. So I decided to taper off the zoloft for a month and see what would happen. No relief from the light headed feeling, blurred vision and headaches and visual migraines. None of these things I ever had before I started taking antidepressants. I'm now taking wellbutrin 150xl in the morning and have been taking it for about three weeks. Still get lightheaded and dizzy and have occasional blurred vision. I'm starting to think that I never needed these things from the start but now am afraid that I will never be able to get off of them. Does anyone have any suggestions or similar stories? more

Hello. For the last year and a half I've suffered from migraine headaches. I try to eat right, I got my eyes checked out and got eye tests done so there is nothing wrong there. I wear the right prescription glasses and contacts. But my headaches have gotten increasingly worse! A lot of the time my face hurts horribly and I only get temporary relief from Neti pot, blowing my nose, and sinus and headache meds... A few days ago I heard about cell phone radiation and so I stopped sleeping with my cell next to my head....but I have no clue if this is really the reason...could there be other reasons? I don't sleep well at night either...sometimes I am very uncomfortable in sleep...My headaches are accompanies sometimes with dizziness, fatigue and naseua at times....Please help!! more

Resolved Question: Went to the ENT doctor for chronic ear pain and was diagnosed with TMJ. I think I need a second opinion.?

I go to the doctor for migraines (which I know is a symptom of TMJ), I have neck and back pain (another symptom), and I have to get my ears irrigated 8 times a year. Everytime they are irrigated the dr says that I have an ear infection, they are very inflammed, and the wax buildup is tremendous. Well I was so tired of the debilitating ear pain I went to the ENT and he looked in my ears and said they look fine. I explained I had been using a neighbors ear drops to numb the pain and that may have caused them to become better.. but when they hurt, THEY HURT. Like I throw up from the pain, cant hardly walk, any noise bothers me, and they pop constantly. He referred me to an oral surgeon who is probably going to do x-rays and give me a biteguard but the thing is I have had one since I was 16 (now 24) I did not wear it like I should but im skeptical that TMJ is the problem. My jaw NEVER hurts. It does align differently on one side but I had braces and this guard because the dentist knew I grinded my teeth. Now I could be totally wrong and this could be an end all to all my problems, but I hear they prescribe muscle relaxers to help and I have been on muscle relaxers for almost a year and im still getting the migraines and ear pain so I think if it was TMJ it would have eased up a bit being on the meds and all. My insurance also does not cover TMJ expenses so is this something drs just misdiagnose to put your problems on someone else? Or could I really have it? Also with the extreme pain im in hearing that they only make biteguards and prescribe NSAIDS, which dont do ANYTHING for me, Im reluctant to even go to the oral surgeon. I need help with the PAIN.. I know if it is TMJ and they do a guard pain will ease up gradually but the headaches and aches and pain are keeping me from living a normal life. I need relief and from what I have read about it.. that is something that comes over months and months more

I stayed in the hospital for 4 days in October, and when I was released I felt fine. It's now December 14, and I have had a migraine for 4 weeks, without any relief whatsoever. I have been for 2 of these treatments: Nubain 50mg Intramuscular Injection Phenergan 25-50mg Intramuscular Injection Solu-Medrol 1000mg IV I go for the last treatment today, and I can't tell a difference yet. The headache has only gotten worst and I have had no relief. I am also on the following medication: Welbutrin XL 150mg – 1 time per day; prescribed for depression and smoking cessation. Xanax 0.5mg- 1 tablet at bedtime; prescribed for anxiety. Trazodone 150mg - 1 tablet at bedtime; prescribed for insomnia. Varapamil 40mg- 1 tablet 2 times a day; prescribed to prevent migraines. Indreal 20mg- 1 tablet 4 times a day; prescribe to prevent migraines. Phenergan 25mg- 1 tablet every 4-6 hours as needed for nausea; prescribed for nausea/vomiting. Percocet 10/325mg- 1 tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain; prescribed for pain. Maxalt 10- 1 tablet at the onset of headache, repeat in 2 hours if needed. Do not take more than 3 tablets in 24 hours; prescribed for migraine termination. My neurologist is board certified in neurology, pain management, and psychiatry, what can I ask him to do? Please help, I can keep going like this.Yes, I have tried prayer. Unfortuantely, nothing has worked. more

Resolved Question: I need some medical advice, here are the facts. What do you think?

I am a 17 year old caucasian male, I reside in South Carolina. I have had several problems this year with migraines, but this one by far has been the worst. Resolved Question: How has conventional medicine harmed you?

I'll show you mine, if you show me yours :P 1) age 12-14 - I had horrible abdominal pains that were first diagnosed as 'ovulation pains' for which I was put on the pill, receiving no relief. Then the diagnosis was that I was looking for attention and was making it all up. I was referred to a psychiatrist who put me on antipsychotic drugs. The pain continued and I missed so much school as a result. Times when I would vomit from the pain, my mother took me to my doc so I could get a sick note for school, but the doctor's notes would read 'i see no evidence of dehydration, child needs more discipline at home' Due to misdiagnosis I failed grade 8. I was so depressed and attempted suicide a few times. I was on so many drugs, for psychosis, depression, anxiety. My doc them suggested I live spend some time with my mother's family in 'the old country' for proper disciplining. During my time there I was not allowed any pain medication, EVER, since I was just making it up. It was hell. Conclusion - after having been seen by at least 8 doctors, I decided to do my own research and came up with gallstones as a possibility. I approached a new doctor with this, she did an ultrasound and I indeed had stones. 2) Age 18. I saw my doctor for what I thought was a developing hunchback. She told me it was just fat. 19 years later a chiropractor saw this hump and told me my spine was deformed, likely due to the extremely tight muscles over top. After a few months of massage and chiropractic treatment, the deformity, as well as headaches, migraines and other associated symptoms, are all gone 3) Age 36 - severe muscle spasms, 100's per day, peripheral neuropathy, panic attacks, high blood pressure peaks, endocrine imbalance, torturous head tightness and a miscellany of other problems my MD diagnosed as 'stress', precribing me anti-anxiety meds, together with Lyrica from my neurologist. My naturopath ran the proper tests and found severe iron, calcium and magnesium deficiency, anemia, and chronic lead poisoning. My chiropractor worked on an area of of my spine that was associated with the nerves that caused many of the problems I was having, and massage therapists discovered and treated severely tight cranial and other fascia tissues. Between my Naturopath, Chiropractor, Massage Therapist and my own Herbal therapies, My condition improved dramatically. While at the hands of my MD and Neurologist, I was in so much suffering I wanted to die on many occasions. If not for that dedicated team, and my views of health and healing, I might have ended up on drug after drug that never would address the core problems. I have more stories, but would rather hear yours now.Mushroom Cloud, please provide scientific and reliable data to substantiate your claim that "When alt-med fails, many people are too humiliated to admit that they chose this kind of treatment, and many are plain dead" what is many? do you have a number? :DHannah, It was not 1 doctor, it was DOZENS spanning decades and various cities, ranging from family MD's, ER docs, and specialists such as psychiatrists, neurologist, cardiologist etc. The medical system has harmed me by training legions of practitioners to prescribe drugs to address symptoms without investing much effort into seeking the underlying cause. You agree the health service is crap, yet you no not provide any scientific data to back your claim that it is the best we have.rhianna, please learn to read. This question is not addressed to you. I certainly do not answer questions such as "why do you love Jesus," when I do not and it obviously does not pertain to me. I believe I now understand why you do not acknowledge the scientific evidence validating many of the natural therapies you dismiss as quackery, perhaps you just need to brush up on your reading skills, since you have clearly demonstrated yourself to be challenged in these regards.Your reasoning lacks both logic and truth. If I had wanted to know about people's successes with conventional medicine I would have a) asked for that information b) asked for that information in its appropriate category. But you already knew that :) Would you like to now answer how Jesus has saved your life? It would be equally as relevant to my question. Now that I see that you are not interested in answering questions as asked, and prefer to project your own ideas into others' questions, (narcissism? delusions?), I will be sure to simply ignore you in the future as you obviously have no intention of offering relevant responses, opting rather to offer answers to questions you think should have been asked instead. lol. so sad. more

Resolved Question: I Need Help With Migraine Relief?

I am 17 years old and have suffered from migraine pain my entire life, but am too young to visit a pain clinic. Recently i've been seeing a neurologist with no relief. Multiple occasions I've been admitted to the ER, and have been on many prescription pills with no luck, in fact I've been taking them for so long and so often i'm suffering from rebound headaches now too. I'm also taking protein, calcium and magnesium supplements daily and am on Acai Berry Juice. I want to try a new diet to better my chances at experiencing relief, any ideas? I'm lactose intolerant and don't do well with meat. I'm still in high school so a diet where I am suppose to eat every 2 hours won't be very helpful. Any diet advice?im not trying to lose weight, I just need to start eating on a healthier diet. more

Resolved Question: HELP!!! 60-hour long debilitating headache! Can anyone offer advice?

This headache started late Sunday evening, after doing some homework, it was pretty painful but i managed to get my way through that night simply thinking it will be better in the morning. Boy was i wrong! I woke up monday morning in tears and screaming- this pain is unbearable. Its on both temples, behind my forehead and on the top of my head. Applying pressure to my head in the places that it hurts helps a little.. but sometimes it doesn't do anything. Having my head fully submerged in a bath tub offers some relief. I've had a one degree fever since it started and i threw up once since i've had it. I've seen three doctors one said it could be temporal lobe arthritis, another said meningitis, and another just said its the beginning of any viral infection. I took one anti-migraine pill which didn't do a damn thing, and i've been taking advil but that doesn't seem to help other, except it brings the fever down. The other thing im taking isTamiflu Oseltamivir. Nothing seems to be helping and all i am able to do is lie in bed. Im also experiencing some "growing pain" type feelings in my legs... very strange and my neck is stiff and there is some pain in the center of my back. Some non-medical remedies i've tried have all been from random google searches, cayenne pepper pills, peppermint tea, ice on the back of my neck, apple cider vinegar, zinc, nothing is helping, any advice or input i would be beyond grateful for. more

Voting Question: Headache cause/relief?

I've had a terrible headache for about 3 days now, and I think it may be getting worse. Every time I get up or move in a certain direction I have a really sharp pain in the sides of my head. Could this be a migraine? I've never gotten a migraine before, but my dad gets them. So far I've tried Motrin, Advil, and Tylenol, but nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Ideas for headache relief?

I have had constant headaches for the last 3 years now. I mean CONSTANT, I can't think of one day without pain. I get plenty of sleep, I don't drink a lot of caffeine, I drink plenty of water(but not to much). Usually I can stand the pain, I've learned to deal with it. on a normal day, the pain peaks at a about a 5, with a low around a 3(pain scale of 1-10, 10 being worst). every few weeks I get a killer migraine, usually around an 8 or 9, though I have had a few 10s. These are real migraines, pain so intense I am in tears, i can't stand even the slightest sound or light, I am collapsed, unable to move because of the pain. I haven't had insurance for the last 2 years, i can't go get it checked. I am looking for ideas of pain relief, legal ones preferably. I'm out of ideas. Excedrin makes me puke, and regular Tylenol, Alive, and Advil don't work anymore. more

Resolved Question: Migraine relief in 2WW?

I'm in the 2WW now - about four or five days in, I guess. I've had migraines for the last four days and I'm hesitant to take pills for them - just in case of impending pregnancy. I know regular Tylenol is safe (according to my doctor), but it doesn't help. Excedrin usually works for me, but I don't think that's safe and I'd rather not risk it. Anyone know what i can take to kill the headaches? I can't stay in and hide under the covers all day - I have a preschooler, a fiance, and a job, lol. more

Resolved Question: How to find a doctor who will prescribe oxycontin?

I live in Connecticut, and I have had migraine headaches for the past 8 years. Usually they would get so bad I would end up in the ER on a duiladid IV drip. I have been to a neurologist and he has tried me on every kind of Triptans , NSAIDs, Beta-Blockers, Anticonvulsants, Calcium Channel Blockers, Tricyclic antidepressants, Vicodin, Percocet, Tylox, Benzodiazepines, etc. One day my friend, who also suffers from migraines gave me an oxycontin. It was the first and only medication that provided relief, it was like a miracle drug. I understand it has high abuse potential, etc etc of that I am already aware. My neurologist refuses to prescribe the medication Oxycontin. I have tried going to pain clinics and since the drug is so restricted I am unable to have it prescribed to me. No one understands how these debilitating migraines have ruined my quality of life. I miss work, cannot play with my kids, or take care of my home. I deserve a better quality of life and if this medication is what it takes I will do anything to stop the pain and live a normal life. Where can I find a doctor who will prescribe them to me or a LEGITIMATE online pharmacy where I can order them. I am no drug addict I am simply someone who deals with chronic pain and I just can't deal with it any longer. I am not looking for anyones OPINIONS or ALTERNATIVES just the answer to my question. Thank you for your help, I am in desperate need of relief. more

Voting Question: Erroneous Diagnosis Report?

Well to make a long story short I have been suffering with migraine headaches nearly everyday now for 4 months consecutively and I am being seen by a neurologist and an ENT. ( to no relief) The neurologist has prescribed a slew of drugs that mask my pain (and I refuse to take them as they interrupt my life more than the actual headaches) so FINALLY as my patience began to wear thin with my neurologist and his unprofessional-ism e.g. : not listening to my worsening symptoms as he reads the chart, not going over test results, 5 minute consultation, and taking personal cell phone calls while he's supposed to be hearing me out, handing me prescriptions as he's talking on cell while escorting me out with hand gestures, and the MOTHER LOAD is this: when I had enough I thought to ask receptionist for copy of dignosis to look over myself because doc was obviously to busy she complied and handed me a copy. As i skimmed the report I found MAJOR fallacies within the diagnosis report! Things like I had diabetes, (I don't) that I had lumbosacral nerve damage, (never checked for whatever that is) that I had such and such BP (never had vitals done there) that I had little mobility in my feet and ankles (but I don't, and my reflexes were NEVER checked) and that I had a sinus infection due to mucopurulent drain (which I never had) the list goes on and on! He even put I had constipation due to meds, which I NEVER CLAIMED due to I never took the meds longer than one day! When he was nowhere to be found I asked the receptionist what could be done about this and she "quickly" shushed me to a room and said "hold on I will get you the other doctor" (which by the way happens to be HIS physician assistant DAUGHTER) she tried to un-do the "damage" prescribed me more meds then requested more tests. My question is this: 1. Has this ever happened to you? 2. Is this normal? 3. Would you feel safe in these hands? Thank you for reading, sorry so long. more

Resolved Question: why does Xanax help my headaches when nothing else has?

I've had chronic daily headache for over a year now and have tried tricyclics, beta blockers, seizure meds, migraine meds (imitrex, axert), and OTCs. No help and/or unbearable side effects. Narcotics provide some relief, but with obvious drawbacks. But if I take .5 mg xanax every night, it relieves my headaches for about 20 hours.(add: it just seems weird that stress, which I'm not noticing, is causing such daily debilitating pain...is there no other explanation?) more

Resolved Question: Headache, nothing will help.?

Resolved Question: Suffering from migraines and seeking help!?

I'm 21 and I started off having headaches here and there starting in May, but for over a week now I have had either a headache or a migraine on a daily basis. I have missed work a couple of times in the last month, and I feel that my options are becoming limited. I am seeing a neurologist and he put me on Verapamil to prevent headaches/migraines, Gabapentin when I get a headache/migraine, and Treximet for serious migraines to take at a maximum of twice a week if needed. Well, I have been taking 3 Gabapentin pills at least twice a day for well over a week, maxed out on my Treximet also. No relief with Gabapentin. I've had an EEG and MRI come back clear, and doctor doesn't believe its anything with sinus. Anyone with migraine issues that has found something that works? I can't miss anymore work and can't find relief!Yup I'm a New Mamma to a 5 month old and have been keeping a headache diary for my neurologist for the past week :) But thanks for the suggestion! more

Voting Question: epidural/spinal block for back pain?

i am 26 years old and have had fibromyalgia since i was 14 (!! i know!) i was initially diagnosed when i was 14, but was so young and naiive, i shrugged it off. about a month ago, i thought i had double ear infections and my jaw was killing me. i was diagnosed with TMJ. i started wearing a night guard and the symptoms have subsided for the most part other than occasional clenching. i suffer from almost daily migraine headaches, dibilitating trigger point pain, brain "fog", i have battled insomnia since i was a child, occasional depression, horrible "bathroom" issues, and most recently, constant back (spinal) pain. there is some history for you. about 1.5 weeks after the whole TMJ issue, i started to have these awful knots in my back in the "common" fibro areas. i could feel them when i breathed and every masseuse cringed when they felt them. i got two massages within a week they were so bad. i got no relief. then, one day about a week later, they subsided for the most part (thank god!)... but they were seeminly replaced with spinal pain! the pain shifts between my lower to mid to upper on a daily basis. my doctor has tried me on at least 12 medications since then, none work. my stomach does not tolerate medications well and i am either puking or no reaction to the meds. i get no relief from anything. i have found that if i walk "too" long... like, an hour max... i start to cripple in pain. same if i sit too long.. yesterday i cleaned house for a long period of time (6 hours or so)... and once i was on the couch resting, i could not get up... it is the first time i couldnt get off the couch or from a resting position and i am scared..i have never had an injury nor any accidents. i sit at a desk 8 hours a day. my question is this. my doctor has posed that i see a pain management specialist. i have had xrays that only showed spasms (this was when i had knots, not when the spinal pain started). i am scheduled for an mri to ensure there is no slipped disc or anything. the dr has brought up epidurals and spinal "blocks".... i have never had either. the thought scares me like no other... sorry so long, but i am so lost about all of this. i'd like to hear everyone's thoughts about my symptoms and about the proposed treatment. i am open to everything. thank you so much. more

Resolved Question: How would I summarize/analyze this article?

How Would i summarize this article? The Court Confronts a Grievous Injury For years, the Bush administration has worked with industry to try to water down the public’s protections by preventing states from enforcing rules and regulations tougher than those required by the federal government. It has tried to apply this policy of pre-emption to rules issued by a slew of federal agencies and is now asking the Supreme Court to approve its improper ideological stand when it comes to drug safety On Monday, the court heard arguments in the case of a Vermont musician who lost her arm after being injected with an anti-nausea drug. There is no doubt that Diana Levine was badly injured by a drug made by Wyeth. The only question is whether the Supreme Court will uphold her right to sue the company over its failure to adequately warn of a drug’s dangers. Or will it buy the arguments of the industry and the Bush administration that companies like Wyeth should be protected from such lawsuits in state courts if the products that caused the injury met federal regulatory standards? The administration wants approval by the Food and Drug Administration to be the final word in these cases, not state laws like Vermont’s that often require the manufacturer to meet a higher standard in warning doctors and patients about potential dangers. The court should rule in favor of Ms. Levine. Ms. Levine went to a clinic seeking relief for a migraine headache. She received Demerol for her headache and Wyeth’s Phenergan to combat nausea, both administered by injections into the muscle, which is the preferred route of administration. When the headaches persisted, she returned for more treatment. This time, the same medicines were administered by an intravenous “push” technique that is known to be risky — using a needle inserted into a vein. A physician’s assistant mistakenly hit an artery, with catastrophic results. Ms. Levine quickly developed gangrene; her hand and lower arm had to be amputated. She sued the physician’s assistant, the supervising physician and the clinic for malpractice and won an out-of-court settlement, as well she should have. Then she sued Wyeth for failing to warn the clinicians to use the much safer “IV drip” technique, in which the drug is injected into a stream of liquid flowing from a hanging bag that already has been safely connected to a vein, making it highly unlikely that the drug will reach an artery. A trial court awarded her $6.7 million, and the Vermont Supreme Court upheld the verdict. Now Wyeth, supported by the Bush administration, has asked the Supreme Court to reverse the verdict on the grounds that Wyeth complied with federal regulatory requirements. We do not buy Wyeth’s argument that it did everything it needed to, or could have done, to warn doctors about the dangers involved in the treatment Ms. Levine received. Wyeth did warn of some dangers of the drug treatment, in words approved by the F.D.A., but the state court was well within its rights to conclude that those warnings were insufficient. And that is the greater point. When Congress revised the federal law governing the F.D.A. in 2007, drug companies wanted, but did not get, a provision shielding them from this sort of lawsuit. The drug industry and its administration allies now want the court to ignore the absence of express legal language and grant drug companies immunity based on a phony assertion that state lawsuits improperly usurp federal regulatory authority. For the court to broadly endorse the concept of “implied pre-emption” in this case would show disrespect for the considered decisions of Congress and could foreclose injury suits involving not only drugs, but also motor vehicles, household products and other things. The ultimate effect would be to undermine consumer safety. Far from usurping the F.D.A.’s power, litigation aimed at holding drug companies liable for problems like those in this case complement the agency’s efforts to protect the public. For many years the F.D.A. welcomed state failure-to-warn suits as reinforcing those efforts; two former commissioners, David Kessler and Donald Kennedy, made that point in a brief in the case. Only under President Bush did the agency overrule its top staff members and try to pre-empt such suits. We hope this business-friendly Supreme Court will preserve the consumer protection that state tort actions often provide. Otherwise, the incoming president and Congress will need to pass corrective legislation. How would I summarize this article? Im not so sure on what its talking about and how I would analyze it. Resolved Question: How Would i summarize this article?
