So my mom was sent to this nursing home, they call themselves a "rehabilitation" center, but one look will tell you they're a nursing home. She's supposed to be there for rehab for her knees, then have a double knee replacement and then go back to this place for the post surgery rehab. Anyway, I was there today visiting, well, actually making sure everyone was doing their job, but that's another story. And one of the aids stopped by to ask her if she wanted to go to happy hour. My mom said no and the aid left. I joked with my mom that maybe she should go, that a shot of whiskey might do her good. She told me that's what they have at happy hour. I thought she was kidding, so I asked her if they really served alcohol at happy hour. She told me they have beer and wine coolers. So I said that it must be non-alcoholic, and she told me that its not, that its the real thing. Well, as real as beer and wine coolers can get. I tried to ask some one when I was leaving if they really serve alcohol, but the only answer I got was "I don't know." Does anyone know if this is leagle? It doesn't sound right to me. This is ranking so high on my p**s-me-off-o-meter. Way above them useing the fire extinguishers as masking tape holders and leaving other peoples meds in my mom's room. PS: Sorry if my typing/spelling is off, my allergies are killing me and I can barely see the screen.Of leagle age, yes, active, no. I went to bingo the other night, and most of the people there couldn't dot their cards, they aren't allowed to walk on their own, they have to be pushed around in a wheel chair, and they aren't even allowed to go outside. At least I was told absolutely not when I asked if me or someone else could take my mom out for some fresh air. Most of them have dementia or althzheimers also. In April of this year my father got total knee replacement and a week later was transferred to a live in rehab center with 24 hour full medical staff. He is in his mid seventies and 220 pounds heavy. He couldn't walk or stand on his own at the center but we were seeing some improvement towards the end of the fist week. Then on the 6Th day (Saturday) early morning my father needed to use the restroom and he called the nurse station for help. His leg was elevated and immobilized on exercise machine. After 15 minutes someone (a nurse aid) came in and my dad asked her to release his leg from the machine to use the restroom. (he has very limited English). The nurse aid who's English was somewhat limited as well shook her hand as an ignoring gesture and left. My dad with great difficulty release his leg and used the wheelchair to get to restroom but fell on his back and broke a rib and had partially collapsed lung. Approximately one hour later 7 o'clock in the morning I got a call from the rehab center that my father fell down and they need me there. My father cried when I arrived there within 20 minutes and he was in great deal of pain and had difficulty breathing. He was dragged across the floor and put in his bed before my arrival. He was not given any painkillers nor ambulance was called. The nurse was just starting to contact the mobile radiology unit to x-ray his knee and this was almost two hours after his fall. I demanded to call an ambulance after his roommate said that "he was surprise they didn't call the ambulance, the fall was pretty bad". Their excuse for negligence was " time for staff shift'. My father spent 4 days in ICU unit at the hospital. Unfortunately as a result of this incidence my father's recovery was prolonged for months and flexibility and pain of his knee was not any different from before surgery. He stopped his outpatient rehabilitation one month ago (different facility). My question is that is it immoral or unethical to sue the rehab center for financial gain for all the suffering of my father and for the hardship that was put on the family? moreResolved Question: I have a question about knee repair surgery.....?
I'm a 39 year old man with a busted knee. I was shot about 12 yrs ago and the bullet almost completely shattered my knee. Being a "man" I didn't follow up with the proper rehabilitation and now my knee has stiffened with arthiritis. Not to mention there are bullet fragments still inside as well. So after finally taking the advice of my wife and seeing a doctor, I was told that my knee is in the worse shape they have ever seen a knee in for a man my age. Long story short, they insisted that I have "complete knee replacement surgery" right away. I've heard some really good and some really bad stories about this type of surgery.
