I'm watching my neighbors cats. One of the cats has been having problems with bladder infections. She was going outside of the box and there was some blood in the urine. The cat has been on two doses of antibiotics over the last four weeks or so. She has also had an ultrasound and nothing was found. I've been watching the cat for two days. I notice that the cat goes to the box, acts like she is using the box and then there is either only a couple drops of fluid or nothing at all. However I will find fairly large puddles of urine in various places around my friends apartment. Any ideas as to whether this is medical, behavioral or both? The cats do share a box. I am a healthy 22 year old female. I went to my GYN after finding a tiny lump in my right breast. He thought it was nothing, so sent me home after scheduling another appointment in one month. I went to the follow-up appointment in June, and he noticed it hadn't gotten smaller so he sent me to a radiologist where I had an ultrasound. They confirmed that it is most likely a benign tumor, but it is mostly solid matter so they can't use just a needle to draw out fluid. I am not positive what type of biopsy I will be getting, but through research I have scared myself about stories from other women claiming it was a painful and uncomfortable procedure. I have an appointment on Wednesday morning with a breast surgeon for the biopsy. This was all through phone calls and I really didn't get a chance to ask questions, and by now all of the offices are closed until Monday. I would really appreciate personal or even medical inputs on what I should expect. This past weekend I went to the emergency room because I couldn't handle the extreme pain that I was going through. I had an ultrasound done and when they were using the scope to look at my uterus, fallopian tubes, ect, the medical staff found three ovarian cysts on my left ovary. Two of them are functional, but one of them is complex and contains both tissue and fluid. The medical staff said I should see a OBGYN asap. Everyone here is booked up until August. I have to wait until August 2nd for an appointment. The hospital gave me some painkillers, but the pain is still incredibly immense. It feels like there's knives being driven into my lower sides, I can barely walk, and it's hard to consume things such as food and liquids because it hurts. I also work housekeeping at a hotel. I have informed my boss about everything. They can't fire me because I have this, can they? I explained to my boss that the medical staff said if I push myself the cysts might rupture, so I can't go back to work until the 2nd of August (I have an appointment then.) If I can't see anyone until August, is there anything that will ease this pain besides the painkillers? How fast do cysts grow? Hello, I'm a 20 year old female and I discovered a thyroid nodule in my neck about 5 years ago. It's about as firm/hard as an apple and it's around 2cm in size (I can move it around a bit, as well), but it hasn't grown over the years... at all, actually. I have massive anxiety and depression issues - not to mention, I'm an excessive hypochondriac. I fear that this may be some form of a thyroid cancer and before you question, the answer is "yes" - I have been to the doctors, more than once, regarding this mass. They don't seem too concerned about it and they have only monitored it with ultrasounds (that's also how I know that it hasn't made an growth, since the day I noticed it.) I have no medical and they found it somewhat inconvenient to biopsy it, though they do keep close tabs to make sure that it hasn't made any significant changes. The only symptoms that I am currently having are heart palpitations and sometimes I find it somewhat hard to breathe/catch my breath - though, it's not to the extreme. I'm going to be honest, I use to smoke marijuana and a lot of it. I no longer consume alcohol, drugs, or anything of that nature. I noticed that over the past few months, that I started to get these dark circles underneath my eyes (would smoking weed have anything to do with that?) Anyway, I would very much so appreciate any advise that you have to offer. I will continue getting it checked-out and whatnot, but I'm far from being an optimist... with that said, I sadly always fear the worse. My Grandmother had a benign growth on her thyroid, as well, when she was my age (she had hers removed, though, due to rapid growth and it blocking her wind-pipe.) Since January I've been experiencing pain under my right ribcage that goes through to my back. It's not ALWAYS present in the same pain 'range', but I feel it most of the time and I can never really get comfortable. It's always tender too. I'm nauseous, I always have a bitter, acidic taste in my mouth and I feel so queasy I might throw up any moment. I haven't yet. I get constipated, but then after that passes I have diarrhea for days. Might be TMI, but It's often orangey and kinda "dissolves" easily when I flush. Underneath my right shoulder blade is always so tender and sore that it hurts to walk, and occasionally when it hurts the worst, it even hurts to breathe. My mother suspects its my gallbladder (I'm only 19 though). In February I visited the closest hospital and they checked me out. I didn't receive very good care. They did x-rays and an ultrasound. They told me that my gallbladder was swollen, but there was no stones or sludge, and diagnosed me with stomach ulcers and "treated" me for that. I received nothing for pain or nausea through the heb lock the left on me, but was sent home with two prescriptions I couldnt afford. (no medicaid or insurance). I have high Triglycerides (thanks to my college's cafeteria food. They fry everything and use bacon grease. eew) and gallbladder disease runs in my family. How bad does this have to get before they take out my gallbladder? I'm afraid to go back to the hospital because I might get the same treatment. And if the doctors don't think it's bad enough and we go all the way to the good hospital (which is a good trip. I got treated at a hospital, and before ANY services were performed, I made it VERY CLEAR to the hospital and insurance company, not send any bills to my mothers house, also double checking that the address to be billed to was mine. I need some help to make my mother quit smoking once and for all. I should have done it a long time ago, but I still believe that there is a chance and the fight is not over yet. Anyways, she said she started smoking when she was in her early 20's until now, her early 40's. Now, I know around this age period and up to 70 years old, the chance of cancer is developing, because it is a median age. But based on her extremely healthy eating lifestyle and going to the gym every day, she could very well live up to 100. She doesn't drink, probably never has, but she does smoke a lot. Mind you, not 1 pack a day, maybe 5-6 cigs a day. She says she exhales as much as the smoke as she can, you know, doesn't inhale everything like chain smokers do. I'll admit, I used to be a smoker, I started with my first few cigs in grade 10, never actually bought a pack then, but I did some last year and this year, however, it was on and off with smoking, I'd take monthly breaks, and now as of last week, I quit, and it's real easy for me. But only because I fear that I have some throat cancer which should be close to impossible at my age of 20 years old. Hopefully, there's no findings when I go to the ultrasound for my thyroid and parathyroid and it's just your average diagnosis of globus. Anyways, because of this mental awaking, I've always wanted her to quit, but she can be very stubborn sometimes. So, if there are any success stories out there or tips on the first few steps, then please, do tell. I don't want to sit in the doctor's office and have him/her say that my mother has 5 years to live. I don't want to be another poster boy for anti-smoking ads because I've lost someone to it, but most importantly, I don't want to experience her dying at a young age in front of me. I think I'd kill myself without her guidance. I know that some smokers have smoked for nearly decades and died without any cancer, which is truly incredible, but we have no family history of cancer. And she doesn't drink at all, she's vegetarian, she always eat very healthy, goes to the gym everyday, and as mentioned, she tries not to inhale most of the smoke, so that should at least cut her chances of getting any serious cancer by half, right? Regardless, I want to make her quit, if she really wants to smoke something natural, she should try medical marijuana. I have never tried weed, but I've never heard a single cancer patient from it either. Hence, why they have medical marijuana; otherwise it would be a health risk, but it's not. Now its not like she does it every now and then she does it ALL the time she also is always "sick" has all these crazy stories about very strange thing happening to her, that some how happen when no one is ever there one time she even faked a seizure and the pregnancy thing happens alot I keep close count on time and she told several different people throughout a 12 month period she was pregnant 13 times 6 were mysterious miscarriage and 3 of those miscarriages she said were after 6 month(1 being supposedly 7) but she didn't deliver she passed out and woke up in the hospital and the baby was just gone. 1 she had to get an abortion but after she says 1 baby survived and she lost it a month later. then the other ones I think she just forgot she said it. I'm a 17 year old girl and so far i have been seeing a doctor for abdominal pains that she can't explain. Something you must understand about me. I have a very high pain tolerance so the fact that i was crying because i was in so much pain is what scared my mom. I was wondering if anyone had had similar symptoms and could point me in the right direction. In February I went into the ER for extreme pain near my diaphragm and a scan was done to check for gaul bladder stones and such. came back negative. i was given morphine at the hospital and after the results came back i was discharged and given Vicadin. About a month afterwords i woke up in extreme pain but this was a little different. The pain had moved more towards my left. and i was throwing up. Once again i went to the ER and once again they had no idea what was wrong and i ended up discharged with more Vicadin. I went to my doctor for a follow up because unlike last time, the pain didn't subside once i was off the Vicadin. it was thought that it could be some kind of gastric irritation so i was put on a regimen of Previcid which has yet to affect anything. Another month had gone by and still no change. When the pain hit all i did was ride it out, we knew that all the ER would do is give me morphine and send me home with Vicadin b/c they had no diagnosis. I was in the middle of softball. I missed a couple practices because of this. And after some away games I felt the need to vomit but because i hadn't eaten anything before the game there was nothing to vomit. I also stopped lifting weights because it agitated my condition. I has now been 3 1/2 months since my pain began. Now it hurts all the time and spikes at random times. I've tried and look for a pattern but i can't find one. it doesn't agitate based on my food consumption, activity, or stress level. Recently I've notice my left side is falling apart. i can't grip thing s as i use too. i can drop something and not even realize it. Also on the left side of my spine in the middle of my back is a cause of pain as well. sometimes it gets so bad that it's difficult to walk. I have been tested for multiple things including but limited to: -gual bladder stones -kidney stones -mono -appendicitis -pancreas - diabetes I have had a scan and that came back normal. i have had an extensive amount of blood work done and even had a stool sample sent in to look for a bacterial infection. All negative results. i had an ultrasound done on my left side cause my mom wanted as little radiation as possible. all that did was confirm that i have polycystic ovary syndrome. i have been on medication for that and have been assured that PCOS or the medications could not produce the symptoms i am showing. i even went off the medication as instructed by my doc to see if the medication had anything to do with it but no luck. I have dealt with this long enough. it is keeping me from truly enjoying life. i still go out with friends on the weekends like any normal teenage girl but for me it hard to enjoy it with pain coursing through my body. my coach was concerned when i didn't eat any dinner at an away game. (trust me, i had an appetite like i always do i was just afraid to put something in my stomach.) i scared some of my teammates who i carpool with after the game and they wanted to take me to the ER cause i was in so much pain and i couldn't hide it. I just finished a certificate program at my county college to be a certified medical assistant/phlebotomist. Altho its a non-credit program, you can get 16 credits towards a Health Science associates degree. I was originally going to do that, then transfer to a ultrasound tech. school because it requires an AS. at the minimum [a LEGIT accredited school not like sanford brown/lincoln tech crap] but now I've been thinking about doing nursing instead. I dont know if I should use the credits they'll give me for the Health Science degree, then try to transfer into a BSN program, or if I should just start from scratch and do the RN all the way through. I really don't have any college credits to start from [maybe 3]. would it be better to transfer into a BSN program, or start with a 2 year RN? also, if i get the 2 year RN instead, I can still transfer to an ultrasound program and then eventually get a BSN.. I just dont know what the right approach is. I think i want to do nursing more, but I would like to also do ultrasounds to diversify my abilities and market myself better [not to mention i find it very interesting]. So I am about to get my Bachelors in Sociology.. which I don't really plan on using it for Sociology. It was honestly the quickest way to graduate. I am very, very interested in sonography/ultrasounds, but can't seem to find any good schools anywhere! I am in the Denton/Dallas/Fort Worth area and the closest is Sanford Brown Institute in Dallas but the reviews are terrible and some even call it a rip-off, even though it's a $36k school! I had surgery on 2-17-10 to have a fibroid and 2 polyps removed from my uterus. The surgery went well but 2 days after I started to have excessive bleeding, swelling and quite a bit of pain. Im going to try to make this as short as possible but its a little extensive. My doctor sent me to the ER after returning my 9am phone call after hours. The ER was really busy but did an ultrasound and consulted with the doctor on call from my OB's office. They said it all sounded normal after my surgery. I returned to my doctor the next day and she said I was having a reaction to the sterile water they used to flush my uterus during surgery and it will just go away on its own. It did not get better and sometimes the pain was so bad that I couldn't even stand up. Bleeding was very very heavy so I went back to the doctors office and saw a doctor that had been with the practice much longer and thought would be able to help me more. He said I had an infection and put me on meds including 3 birth control pills a day to get bleeding under control. The bleeding went down to a light amount. I went back for a follow up 1 week later and he said to go back to normal once a day birth control and he would see me in 3 months. Well the bleeding and pain started full force again on the weekend and the office suggested I go to ER again! I choose to wait til monday and went to see the doctor again. He said it was my hormones being out of whack and it was a matter of getting them under control. He switched my birth control pill to a stronger one and said we would just have to see how it went to come back in a week. The next day I felt as if I were in labor and passed a large piece of tissue (this is 4 weeks after surgery). I called the doctor and he said it was normal and blew me off again. I tried to explain I was still in alot of pain so he called in an antibiotic to my pharmacy. Ugghhh!! It took me a while but I got smart and found a new doctor:) After having 2 more ultrasounds done we have found out that the fibroid was never removed and there is also one polyp remaining. It has been 8 weeks since the surgery and I am still lightly bleeding although the pain has subsided. This is a rather large fibroid and the doctor said it will be more than just a little procedure to remove it. It wasnt something that could have been missed during the original surgery and I was told it was removed and non cancerous according to the biopsy. I don't even know if I have a case but I do know that I have major medical bills from this first surgery and don't feel like I should be responsible for them. I will now have the additional expenses of another surgery to complete what the first one should have. I would love any legal advice as to whether I should pursue hiring a lawyer. I would never sue someone for anything frivilous and am not looking for a lawsuit around every corner but I am really frustrated with this whole situation. I know a moderately autistic person (high functioning) who has a lot of allergies and asthma. Medical treatments have unusual effects on her sometimes. For example, a simple ultrasound of the bladder (the one where they fill the bladder with water and look around) sent her body into shock and she had a seizure. A fall in which her head hits the floor will leave her stunned a lot longer than most people. She has to be careful about taking any kind of pain medications because her body is easily overmedicated with smaller amounts of less potent drugs. One of the things I've seen her do, I've been told is a kind of seizure, and I wondered what causes it. What she does is she stares into space and when she comes to, she doesn't remember anything about it. She wasn't dreaming or anything at all. She was just...blank. Sometimes a feeling like a sharp jolt will happen in either the base of her spine or at a spot near the bottom of the back of her head. She has had CT scans before because her parents wondered about it, and it was decided that it's just because that is what some autistic people do. I was wondering if anything might trigger it, such as allergies or something related to food. One of the other things she has with her is hypoglycemia (which...is not causing the seizures) and also has to take vitamins sometimes or she is more "spacey" coz her body does not use all the nutrients it should when she eats. I had an acute onset of severe abdominal pain located at the base of the sternum and radiating into my back. I went to the ER where I actually work as a nurse. All the labs, CT (without contrast looking for a stone), and ultrasound were negative. The pain which I can only describe as being at the level of going through transition in childbirth was unrelieved by dialudid, morphine, tordal and fentanyl. 4 doctors were involved in trying to figure out what was wrong including a surgeon. I was finally given 2mg of Ativan which totally knocked me out for several hours, but once I was awake I continued to need morphine about every 2 hours until about 22 hours into the pain when it finally went away. I had slight nausea and vomited twice but that was hours into my admission. I had an EGD and and nuclear med studies and they were all fine. Additionally, I was started on an antibiotic when I was admitted to the hospital. The doctors have given me possibilites but nothing concrete. If I was passing a gallstone would that have not shown up on the CT? Would any tumors have shown up without using the contrast on the CT or at least on the ultrasound of the gallbladder, liver and pancreas or in the nuclear studies? I feel alot better but not quite back to normal. I'm off work for a few days or I would quiz the doctors a bit. Ok... so the current college im looking into told me i had to get a degree in radiology so i could work as a ultrasound tech., how does that work? A few years ago I found a breast lump. We did an ultrasound. It was not fluid filled, which means it's not a cyst, which isn't good (I think). The doc said he wanted to just monitor it. It grew, then shrunk, then grew a little more over the next year (by minute amounts). On the last ultrasound I used ANOTHER doctor. The ultrasound tech told me she thought the lump looked like a lymph node. Why would a lymph node be swollen for this long? Can't they tell the difference between a lymph node and another type of mass? I mean, the 1st 3 ultrasound techs said nothing about a lymph node, they called it a "mass" and just measured it and said it wasn't fluid filled. Anyways, that was 2 years ago. The lump is still there now and I haven't talked to the doctor about it anymore. Seems he isn't worried about it, he never asks. But when I tell people about it, and most recently a doctor acquaintance, apparently I SHOULD BE DEMANDING MORE be done. I have 4 kids. I am 34 years old. My grandmother had breast cancer, my mom died at 32 so I don't know if she would have gotten it, and my sister had leukemia a few years ago. So as far as it running on the maternal side of my family? I got a 3D/4D ultrasound done last Wednesday (really awesome by the way and would highly recommend it!) and baby was head down, using the placenta as a pillow. It was so cute, but then I got to thinking about it, isn't the placenta supposed to be high in the uterus? I'm scared now that the placenta is covering my cervix. Is this common to have a low placenta? I am 20 years old and I found out I am pregnant. I am now 19 week prego(5 months) and a couple weeks ago my blood work came back postiive for risk of having a baby with down syndrom! He said it is a 1 in 255 chance so.... 1/2 a percent? and he had me come back in and have an ultrasound done to check. He re-ran my test using my new due date and it STILL came back the same results! This is my first child and Im EXTREMELY upset and worried!!! He said the chances are very low but that there still is a chance and to know for sure we can choose to have another test down where they take fluid out of my belly button with a needle but that has a risk of miscarriage. ALSO... im 5 months prego and im not really showing at all! My stomach has some what increased in size but very little and so im freaking out becuase how am i supposed to know whats really going on? We decided on NOT getting the second test done due to the fact that we can lose the baby; so now im just praying its gunna be okay! ALSO... i was EXTREMELY sick the first trimester of my pregnancy and im barley getting better; i was throwing up literally after anything I ate or drank and even got to the point where I didnt have anything in my stomach to throw up so I started throwing up stomach acid. I have my medical card to smoke marijuana becuase of the number of car accidents I have been in and I have a really bad back problems so I quit smoking marijuana dramatically when I found out I was pregnant but once in a while I would to just be able to keep any kind of liquids and food down. My sickness was so extreme that my doctor also perscribed my the highest dosage of nausea medicine he can perscribe to a pregnant woman and I still threw up so this was my last resort to either! I thought that either A.) Keep throwing up everything and have the baby not get any kind of nutrients or food or anything what so ever or B.) smoke a tiny bit in order to keep food down for the rest of the day! I have completely stopped within the last month but Im worried still. Im not too worried about the smoking back then because I have read and seen many many girls smoke heavily threw there pregnancy and there baby was fine and I was NO WHERE near close to that at all. anyways... Last week, during an outpatient rotator cuff surgery, my husband had a mild MI. He was transported to the ER where he under went 2 cardio caths, 1 for evaluation, the second was to place 7 stents and do some roto rootering of 2 arteries. His EF was 70% going in. He spent a total of 5 days inpatient. The cardiologist said that even the ekgs from the center were rather unremarkable, but the evidence of pain & triponin levels rising, confirmed the MI He came home and was doing great for 3 days, including passive rehab on his shoulder, a trip to the grocery store, and a check up by his ortho surgeon. On day 5 after the stents, he began experiencing mild chest pains, and cyanotic nails, so I took him back to the ER. THey admitted him & did another cardio cath where they found 2 disections that required additional stents. There were no other complications, and the cardiolgist said that the arteries had improved significantly over the past week, and more of the plaque had been flushed out of his heart. That evening he was feeling great, walking several complete laps around the ward without discomfort or shortness of breath. Atfer I went home for dinner, his 3rd cath site became increasingly uncomfortable, and by 1 am(12 hours after the cath) he had taken all of the pain killers that had been prescribed and was still in pain, unable to go back to sleep. He continued to max out on pain meds, was advised to remain in bed, packed the site in ice, and eventually had to lie flat to minimize the pain. They did an ultrasound of the site, noting significant swelling, without redness, oozing, or heat, the site remained soft. Nothing was shown on the US. Eventually they added Demerol, and he was abe to pass out & escape the pain. The site of the previous 2 caths was never this swollen (maybe 1/4 of the swelling & bruising) and his site pain, even after having 2 in the same place, never went over a 3....without the meds, this sie is a 10 During the US, however he was still in extreme pain, and however gentle the tech tried to be, he was screaming, groaning, crying and nearly passing out the pain was so severe. During that time, he also began having chest pains. THe constant chest pains are local to an area the size of a plum, dull and getting a rating of 6-7 (with all of his pain meds on board) but then as he explains, it's like something catches, giving him very sharp stabbing pain rated 9 that pulses for a few moments then dissipates. His ekgs are unchanged, and his enzymes are still dropping from last week. THe doctors that we've seen this weekend are rather unconcerned. He is saying that it's just the number of stents and something he''ll have to get used to, probably going home with several options for pain meds, additional heart meds. These answers are spectacularly not reassuring. My husband has been a very active man who rarely even takes a tylenol for any pain. I can not imagine him having to be drugged to the teeth just to keep from screaming all day. I can't fathom medical persons saying this is to be expected. He has now been medicated to the max for over 24 hours, is still experiencing severe pains in both the groin & chest. LONG story, please do not comment about how it was too long, I warned you in the beginning. My husband and I planned this pregnancy, I knew everything about my cycle, I knew I ovulated on the 10th of Feb, and I tested positive on a First Response test on the 19th of Feb. In total I took 5 pregnancy tests all positives and even went and had my pregnancy confirmed on the 23rd. Well, around the 22nd, I started having some abdominal pain and craming and midback pain, I'd had the pain before when I had a UTI so didn't think anything of it. But on the 24th while at work I was unable to stand up straight from the pain. I was rushed to the ER where I told them I was only 4 weeks pregnant (aka 2 weeks from conception) and I told them about my medical history of PCOS and UTI's. Well after 2 ultrasounds the ultrasound tech told me that you can't see anything usually until after 3 weeks post conception, which I understood. Anyways, fast forward 6 hours later. A nurse comes in my room and tells me she's going to give me morphine for the pain, at this I immediately say "No, I'm sure that isn't good for the baby." And at that she looked up at me and then to my husband and said, "So no one has been in to talk to you yet then?" And she excused herself only to come back and give me the injection telling me it would be alright for my "pregnancy"... after 20 minutes of morphine my dr who I had only seen once before came in the room and told me it was an ectopic pregnancy and they had to give me two injections to get rid of it. I broke down. I knew this was my baby, it was our first try and I had all the cards stacked against me with PCOS and thyroid disease. So... I accepted it and they gave me the two injections and told me that they would watch me for 30 min to see how I reacted. I didn't know what that meant but I trusted them. Last Friday I went to my own OB/GYN and had my hcg levels retested and an ultrasound. My hcg levels had doubled since they were tested in the ER on Wednesday, and on the ultrasound they still saw nothing. Another thing, all my pain had gone away, except for emotional pain of course. Well, Saturday I got really sick, I honestly thought I was dying. Worst cough of my life, I pulled muscles in my abdomen from it, high fever, unable to breathe easily, so I started researching the injections they gave me, Methotrexate. I was so surprised they NEVER explained what it was, what it did, that it was used in chemo, that it could lower my blood count which it did, I was shocked they had let that slip. Monday I went back to the Dr again for more HCG tests, at that appointment I was told my levels had doubled again and are now almost at 1000, only being 2.5 weeks pregnant, which was right on track for a regular pregnancy. My dr told me she hadn't seen many ectopic pregnancies get out of the 400hcg range, nor had she seen any women's levels continue to double after the MTX injections. She also continued to tell me, she had looked over my chart from the night at the ER and she had not seen anything besides abdominal pain to support their diagnosis. At this, I asked her if it were possible they were wrong and she said, it is very possible. I got my medical records within the hour after that conversation from the ER I had gone to, and went over my file myself. I looked at my own sonos and saw nothing but cysts on my ovaries which were NORMAL for me, i had told them about the PCOS already, and I thought "there is NO way they could of done that.." also noted was there was a fairly large amount of fluid in my abdomen. I've had cysts rupture before that were the size of oranges, and that was what my own OB told me she believed happened that day. So now, I'm wondering what to do? I find out tomorrow for sure if it is an intrauterine pregnancy, and if it is we now have to live with the fact that due to the Methrotrexate they gave me, my baby will likely be born with severe birth defects or mental disabilities. I'm flat out angry about this whole situation, I trusted the ER doctors to tell me the truth, to tell me they weren't sure what it was rather than inject me with poison. To top it all off, they measured one of my cysts and referred to it as the ectopic pregnancy (even though they stated there was no sac or embryo present) in their report and dated my pregnancy at 5 weeks and 1 day. They never would have made this mistake if they had listened to me when I told them when my LMP was and had listened to me when I told them I ovulated on the 10th, so there was no medical way for me to be 5weeks 1 day prego. I don't know what to do now, this has been the longest emotional rollercoaster of my life, and I'm tired, but I'm angry too. What would you do if this happened to you? I'm terrified, and simply trying to hold on at this point. I just really need some advice, if this has happend to anyone you know, were their children born normal? Ok - Here is the situation : After not feeling good for over two months, I was finally convinced that I needed to go to the dr. After I went to the dr, he (the dr) told me that he didn't know for sure what was wrong with me, and that I needed to see a cardiologist in order to make a diagnosis. So I went to the cardiologist and he did an EKG and an ultrasound of my heart/chest area, as well as blood work and hook me up to a holter monitor for 24 hours. My EKG , ultrasound and blood work were all fine. The results of my holter monitor were also normal (with the exception of 6 skipped heart beats and a period of dizziness in 24 hours). However, I am still upset at the fact that I don't know what is wrong with me and nobody else seems to know either. Here are the symptoms I have had for the past 2 and a half months : EXTREME FATIGUE, CHEST PAIN (sometimes sharp/sometimes dull as well as throbbing), LOWER BACK PAIN, EXTREME AND CONSTANT SHORTNESS OF BREATH AS WELL AS OCCASSIONAL NAUSEA. All I know is that I would like my old life back and be like I used to be. I would like to find out once and for all what is wrong with me. On July 6th 2009 my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex, I was not on any birth control pills we didn't use anything to protect ourselves, he came inside of me, later that day I got my period. On July 17th, I noticed every time I stood up, I was dizzy. I went to the pharmacy bought a pregnancy test, it was positive. I told my boyfriend about the results and he couldn't be any happier. At the end of July, I was taken to the emergency room for extremely painful abdominal pain, I told the doctor about my symptoms and told him about the positive pregnancy test I did at home. The doctor ordered a blood pregnancy test, and it was positive. Months went by and I was having weird food cravings, a whole lot of dizziness, frequent urination at all times especially at night. I went to see my doctor, he gave me the prenatal vitamins everything seemed ok. I went for a routine ultrasound appointment, they couldn't see the baby. I thought it was weird because I have been feeling the baby move and it has started kicking. After going for a routine check up with my OB/gyn doctor he has my primary doctor do a cat-scan on my abdomen because he couldn't see the baby. I get the cat scan done, now I am being told that the cat-scan results are normal. What is that suppossed to mean? I am worried. She has a numbing, burning pain that started in her left shoulder and neck and just recently went into the whole left side of her body. She feels most of the pain in her shoulder and then the burning in her lower left leg. The numbness is in her finger tips and toes. WHERE WE HAVE BEEN ALREADY: 1. Neurologist - nerve conduction test done to rule out carpel tunnel syndrome. An MRI was suggested. 2. 1st Chiropractor - used activator on neck and cold laser therapy on neck, shoulder and arm. 3. 2nd Chiropractor - took x-rays and said there was some alignment issue in neck. Put on theraputic (Vivatec) beds on 8 different appointments. Still no results or resolution. 4. Had MRI of neck and spine with and without dye contrast to rule out MS and attempt to discover anything that is causing the problem. Everything checked out fine and no resolution according to doc's and results. 5. Went to a primary care physician and an EEKG was performed. Still no results yet. Vascular labs were suggested. 6. Outpatient hospital -- vascular labs on left and right arm; ultrasound of neck. Still no results. 7. Went back to primary care physician (from #5) and had to wait 4 hours and my wife never got to see him. The doctor called on the phone to apologize for the wait and he said that "Nothing is showing up on the left side of your body, even though that is where you feel the pain. About almost two weeks ago I manipulated a spermatocele in my scrotum above the right testicle, then it began to hurt. Days passed, and the pain began to be much worse in the epidydimus of the left testicle as the right one got better. I got tons of referred pain in my groin and up to the inguinal canal. For two hours one night, the area behind my left testicle was in excruciating pain. A few days ago I got an ultrasound which proved negative for torsion, cancer, and infection. As the pain got better I noticed that whenever I simply touch the head of my left epididymus, the pain comes back for hours on end. If I don't touch it, at the moment there is no pain but this has me worried that this area will always hurt. As well, after masturbation, something around the head of the epididymus of my left testicle seems to stick out a little bit. I thought it could be a varicocele, but those didn't show up on the ultrasound. The cyst on my right epididymus still hurts if I touch it. But pretty much I'm pain free as long as I keep my hands off the area for the moment. But I never used to have this problem, so I know this isn't normal for me. I'm 24 years old, and I have had scrotal pain in the past (once before, two months ago), and the ER urologist said it's "blue balls". I am at a loss as to what is my problem and why the area is so ridiculously tender. Okay to cut along story short. I had vertigo last Sunday and I had it very severe and was prescribed Stemetil so I took what was advised 3 times a day dose. But the thing is I asked doctor and notified him that I was pregnant and that I was also on another medication called Maxalon ( used for my severe morning sickness). I was told that it was okay to take the stemetil. Anyways I took my medications and ended up have secondary dystonia ( side effect of stemetil, and stemetil and maxalon should never be used together) I ended up on Friday night of last week of severe dystonia ( lasting more than an hour it was so painful) Im scared that the doctors ignorance has now placed my unborn baby in danger and that I may have caused the baby to have some deformities, I am scared as hell and have my ultrasound to test any abnormalities this Tuesday. Okay, I have been sick for more than a year now, and my doctors have no idea why. It all started after four rounds of antibiotics for tonsillitis. Here are my symptoms. I have no idea if any are connected. Nausea, comes and goes, usually worse at night, and sometimes after I eat anything. Loss of appetite, I cannot eat hardly anything. Acid reflux that comes and goes. Lump in throat feeling, usually worse at night and while lying down. Usually accompanied by nausea. Weight loss, I’ve lost 60lbs in 14 months without doing anything. It seems to be getting worse. Increased cold sensitivity, always cold. Hear flutters, comes at random times, usually short of breath and dizzy after. Bad sinus drainage, constant, worse at night. Random lymph node swelling in neck/jaw. Sometimes accompanied by faint ear and/or throat pain. Usually goes away within a few days. Abdominal pain, usually on the left side. A dull burning pain that comes and goes. Joint pain, mostly in left knee, no injuries. Hair loss. Tooth decay. Dizziness / near fainting when standing. Ringing in ears, usually after a dizzy spell. Vertigo that comes and goes. Easy bruising / unexplained bruising. Usually on knees and thighs. Eye pain, comes and goes. Headaches. Sinus pain. Unexplained sores on skin. Constipation and diarrhea. Comes and goes. Okay, now for the tests I’ve had done. Hida scan. – Normal. Ultrasound of uterus and gallbladder. – Normal. CT scan. – Showed what looked like inflammation of the large bowel. But was noted that it was probably due to the fact that I couldn’t drink all of the barium. Blood work. – I am not sure what all they tested for, but it all was normal. SED Rate. – Normal. Stool sample. – Normal, no h. pylori or any other bacteria. Tested for Celiac. – Negative. Tested for syphilis. – Negative. Endoscopy. – Normal, no signs of GERD, inflammation, ulcers or infection. Small bowel and stomach biopsies. – Normal. Okay, now the medication I’ve been on. Prevacid [ for nausea. ] – No help. Zantac [ for nausea. ] – Helped the nausea and acid reflux slightly. Nexium [ for nausea. ] – Helped quite a bit with the nausea and acid reflux. Flagyl [ for the suspected bowel inflammation. ] – Just made everything 20x worse. Stopped taking it after four days. Cipro [ for the suspected bowel inflammation. ] - Noticed no difference or side effects. Amitriptyline [ for a sleep aid. ] – Helped with sleeping, but left me dehydrated and produced a nasty taste in my mouth. I stopped taking it after 3 weeks. Amoxicillin [ replacement for Flagyl. ] – Noticed no difference or side effects. Zofran [ for nausea. ] – Helped tremendously, but I ran out. And now the medication I have taken on my own. Benadryl [ For sinus drainage and a sleep aid. ] – Works as a sleep aid, but doesn’t stop the drainage. I have become used to it, so now it has no affect what so ever. Pepto [ for nausea, acid reflux and lump in throat feeling. ] – Works for a little while. Has no affect on the lump in throat feeling. Multi vitamin [ for hair loss, joint pain and tooth decay. ] - No effect so far, but I’ve only been on it for 4 days. Over the counter acid reducer [ for nausea, acid reflux and lump in throat feeling. ] – Works the same as Zantac. No effect on the lump on throat feeling. Ginger [ for nausea. ] – Helps slightly. Probiotics – Made everything worse. Stopped taking after 4 days. Now for what I know I DON’T have. Celiac. Gluten allergy. GERD. Ulcers. Gallbladder disease. Gastritis. Hiatal hernia. H. pylori. Colitis. Medical history / conditions. Asthma. I’ve had it since I was 4. I use an albuterol inhaler. Allergies. I’m allergic to most animals, dust, certain metals, pollen and dander. I used to have chronic ear infections when I was growing up. I had my tongue clipped when I was 13. I had groin hernia surgery when I was 2. I’ve had pneumonia once. I’ve had tonsillitis. I used to be allergic to Eggs when I was 5. I am not anymore. No known allergies to any medication. I’ve had my right eardrum bust twice due to ear infections. I have a history of breast cancer and other kinds of cancer in my family. I have reoccurring ovarian cysts. Okay, now here are some other helpful facts. I smoke about half a pack to a pack a day. I do not do drugs of any kind and never have. I don’t drink. I hardly exercise. I drink about 3 cokes a day. I do not drink water, whatsoever. I have a poor sleep pattern. The last relationship I was in was abusive. My ex got me pregnant again even though I told him I didn't want to have sex anymore bc it hurts. I have one child already. Something I never thought I would ever do, but circumstances change. Here are the details and some background information: - I am 39 weeks 5 days pregnant with my 2nd child. - I was induced on my due date with my first with no complications. My first child was 8lbs 14oz. - This baby was measured a week ago 8lbs 6oz. Ultrasounds are off +/- 5oz. He is still gaining weight. - I was a 9lbs 4oz baby. Hi guys- To begin, I am not open to controversy about the absolute necessity of doing whatever doctors say. I've been pregnant before, been through labor and delivery, and have a long unpleasant an often dangerous history with the medical field, my decisions are based on not only popular medical theory but also knowing my own body and history. I am not an at risk pregnancy, the baby is developing perfectly according to two different well spaced scans, my blood work, bp and other routine things are excellent and over all I am in excellent health. OKAY- I am looking for what my legal rights are when it comes to refusing tests and procedures during my prenatal care. Routine things, like Papsmears, swabs, 1 hour glucose tests, etc. I see midwives in vermont who work in association with the hospital where I deliver. I miscarried almost two years ago- it was not preventable because it was early, and because of that this time around I am MUCH more cautious about what is done and when. Beyond all that, the other two OB and midwifery offices in the area are closed, so ALL pregnant women within 50 miles come to see these two women- its BEYOND busy at this place, and with the flu season and everything else the less time spent sitting in that office and touching the stuff IN the rooms the better, IMO. I explained to my midwives that I do NOT want my cervix messed with- or any foreign objects inserted in any cavities until I am full term at or some time after 36 weeks. I'll be damned if at every appointment they dont hand me a robe and lay out the pap equipment and tell me I have to get a papsmear and some swabs. When I refused this last time I made it clear that I will not allow anything until I am full term. My cervix has been checked by ultrasound twice and is perfectly normal and healthy, long and full and perfectly functional. In reply my midwife casually says "well I need one done before this year is out ( Iam due in March next year) and next visit we'll just do some swabs." And went on with the appointment like all was well. I am really getting frustrated. I am not trying to be burdensome or disruptive, I just am not interested in being treated like I have a medical condition. I readily allow for scans and blood work, urine samples and non-invasive tests- I am not interested in not taking precautions- its just the overkill and timing I am not interested in. Beyond all that, at my last visit I got reamed out because I was not getting the H1N1 vaccine, and treated as though I am too stupid to have spent countless hours researching and weighing things out (I have a notorious history of adverse reactions to even the most routine vaccinations. Last time I got a shot, a Dtap for tetanus, my legs seized up and I couldnt walk for three days!) Their replies to me stop short of actually saying outright the if I do not comply with their scheduled tests and routines that I will not be allowed to deliver in my way- like, having to stay in bed with an IV in place and things like that. I am just really getting fed up with it. I take other precautions on my own, as well as the other aspects of prenatal care that I get at my visits- I check my bp at home, take it easy, call in if I have questions, I even plan on using my FIL's glucose meter to check my sugar later on instead of going in for the 1 hour (I have low morning BP, nausia in the morning, a toddler, severe sleeping issues, and no history, family history or risk factors, or precursory symptoms for GD- it takes me an hour to get to the hospital for the test which has to be conducted by 8am- the stress level is unreal- last time my BP was so high by the time I went upstairs to my appointment after the draw, and my blood sugar so low, I was sick for a few days after) ANYWAY, anyone know what my legal rights are?
