My science fair project is about coffee - can any of these proposals be tested without expensive equipment/extensive knowledge, and if so, how? I can't find a clear independent and dependent variable. The guidelines is that it is either a physics or chemistry project. It must either be an experiment or a prototype for a machine. 1. If the properties of density are used efficiently in the preparation of certain soft beverages and pairings thereof, their aesthetic, textural, and taste appeal could be heightened to grandiose levels. (i know, weird wording) 2. Could a robotic stirring mechanism do better (eg, be more accurate, more consistent) than a trained human? Or is there an irreplaceable component of motor control and feedback that the flesh-and-blood are utilizing? 3. We lack a simple method to describe how fine we are grinding our coffee - a way to accurately communicate our grind fineness and particle distribution. (Currently, there is a Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer being created - perhaps I could create a prototype improving on that?) 4. Physicists cannot predict from theory exactly how hard a vacuum-packed bag of coffee should be … or when it will change from a solid to a powder. We can readily determine an individual grain's chemical composition, its jagged shape, its density, its crystal structure, and so on. It's the millions of individual grains rubbing together that are so hard to predict. Coffee is an example of a granular material - substances that are as common as the sand beneath your feet, but which have no complete physical theory to describe their behaviour. These questions and wordings are not mine. I'm a little dumb, so I won't be able to do any hard-core experimentation lol. Thank you so much in advance! :D moreResolved Question: Can someone please help me with sharing a printer between 2 computers?

The printer has both a USB and Ethernet. Both computers have USB and Ethernet Cards. They do not have wireless cards in them. I don't mind to use cable, if it can save money. A new middle school in Albuquerque would like to buy a laser Disk player in order to set up a Multimedia Lab in the library. The cost of the Laser Disk Player is $656.95. The school also needs the CD-ROM packet of information to use in the lab that currently sells for $545.00. The principal must decide between 2 ways to acquire the money for the equipment needed. One way would be to sell ice cream to the school's population of 1100 students at $1.00 a bar. However, similar sales in the past have resulted in average daily sale only 1/6 of the total population. The other way to raise funds is to have a bake sale. In the past, sales have occurred twice a weak, and have sold 30 items for $0.75 a place. Which is the best way for the principal to raise the money? moreResolved Question: How to clean laser printer, fax, etc.?
Here at my job we used to order a product called Scrubex printer/fax cleaning sheets. They were alcohol based sheets you put through the printers, fax machines and copiers to clean them. I found out that they are no longer made (probably some idiots were getting high off of them). Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can clean our equipment. I was thinking of maybe running a sheet of paper with alcohol on it through, but I don't want to mess anything up. Any suggestions? Thanks. moreVoting Question: epilation by laser and dermabrasion?

The scientists used a prototype tester about one square meter in size that shot a laser beam at water samples to stimulate photosynthesis in the algae. Some of the laser... Read More’s heat goes unused by the algae and is sent back into the water based on the condition of the algae and the photosynthesis rate. This returned heat creates sound waves that can be measured and analyzed with special underwater equipment, Dubinsky explained. The strength of these returned sound waves are then used to determine the health and contamination levels of the algae and the surrounding water. A general gauge of algal growth is the daily darkening color as the cells multiply. A more accurate measure of growth can be made by comparing actual cell numbers with the previous day's count. The number of cells can be determined by studying a sample from a culture under a 400X microscope. The sample is placed on a special slide called a ... Read Morehemacytometer. These slides are available from scientific or medical supply stores and come with instructions. To use the hemacytometer, place a pipet filled with a sample from the culture tank against the "V" groove of the slide (a cover slip must be in place). Withdraw the pipet before the sample runs off the flat grid area, but not before the grid area is completely covered with the algal suspension. Wait about five minutes for the cells to drift onto the grid. The grid area resembles the pound symbol (#) inside a square border so that there are nine equal squares. Each of the four corner squares are further divided into 16 smaller squares. The total number of algal cells in all 16 small squares in the four corner areas (64 total small sqs.) are counted. Divide this number by four, for an average, and multiply by 10,000 (hemacytometer volume factor). The product is equal to the number of cells per mL in the sample. Motile algae like I. galbana, must be killed before counting. A weak toxin such as acetic acid or ethanol may be used (one drop into 20-30 mLs of algal sample). Dense cultures (>3 million) should be diluted 1:10 to facilitate counting and to reduce error. Remember to multiply by 10 (for a 10:l dilution) or by the appropriate correction factor if a different dilution is made. There are numerous other methods to quantify algal densities, however using a microscope and hemacytometer, will reveal the presence of biological contaminants. so what i'm really asking is what algae is the best and cheepest to grow and how can i take a laser and help grow them! Anyone who helps i give great props too! moreResolved Question: A Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for things other than a computer.?
There has been a lot of times where the power has flickered in my area and I am considering buying a UPS device for things other than computers. I have satellite TV which reboots every time the power flickers (sometimes I have to replace the HD filters after the power flickers) and a CPAP machine (for sleep apnea) that doesn't turn back on after a power flicker. Has anyone tried using a UPS for devices other than computers? Are there special UPS devices that work with electronic gear other than a computers? Are there any electronic devices that should never be connected to a UPS such as laser printers in the case of computer equipment? I have my computer connected to a UPS but my TV, CPAP machine, game consoles, satellite TV and other items could benefit from a UPS since I have to reset my TV every time the power flickers, my CPAP machine doesn't turn back on and the satellite TV system takes at least 10 minutes to restart after the power flickers resulting in me not seeing TV for 10 or more minutes for the few times I watch TV such as football games. Are there any UPS devices designed for devices other than computers? I would rather not buy a UPS device but it has started to become a big problem with the frequent times that the power has flickered in my area. The computer UPS devices are expensive and some require installing software on a computer but what about using one for devices other than computers? Not sure if a power generator would do any good during brief flickers unless you have it on all the time. A generator is good for extended power outages but not for an interruption in power for a few seconds.I don't plan to use a UPS for a high powered appliance such as a fridge especially if the outage is only a few seconds. moreResolved Question: A free print "archiver" available?
I share an office with someone who uses my office equipment (ie printer, paper, ect.). He connects to the network printer through the front office computer which the laser printer is connected. The front computer has to be on for him to print. I have recently become quite curious if he uses my printer/paper after hours to print "self-promotional" items that are supposed to be done at his own cost. I did a WWW search and came up with a program...but its not too clear how it works. If anyone could give me tips or a program to be able to "View" what he prints (not really spying since it is my printer supplies ect) to prove/disprove my suspicions. moreResolved Question: What does the traffic cop mean when he says he used "Laser"?
My fiance recently got a speeding ticket in a work zone, but I'm not sure if he clocked the correct person because there was a person in front of us and a person next to us (between us and the cop). I know some equipment is more accurate than others, so when the officer said he'd used "Laser" to clock our speed, I asked him if that was like RADAR or LIDAR, he kind of shrugged and said LIDAR....Is it? In a few months, I'll be doing my first real science fair, and I'm looking for a little help. It is a high school science fair, and I'm kind of a science geek, so I've got to do something quite epic. I have a few ideas, but I'm unsure if they would be easily doable... Any new suggestions would be great (preferably higher level). I need to demonstrate the scientific method, and I'd prefer ideas on physics and/or chemistry. Also, after watching the show Fringe, fringe science seems quite interesting, although theoretical...but if there was any way for me to demonstrate some of these ideas, that would be awesome. One of my current ideas is to compare how different substances and mixtures are effected by sound frequencies (both Newtonian and non-Newtonian). I've seen some videos of sand creating patterns while it is vibrated by certain frequencies, as well as what happens to cornstarch and water when subjected to different frequencies...both were quite interesting, so I'd like to see what else I can find. However, I'm not sure if I need any special equipment (if I cannot use a common speaker) and if I can only use specifically created frequencies. I've also in the past tried to demonstrate the Meissner effect (superconductor and magnet), but was unable to acquire a superconductor, so if anyone knows where I can find one that may be an option. Finally, I've thought of demonstrating the Double Silt experiment using a laser, but I'm unsure if this would be complicated/interesting enough for me =P Thanks for any suggestions and/or help. moreResolved Question: What do you think Halo: Reach Should have in the game?
I think Bungie is going to have everything with halo Halo: Reach because its there last halo game. So i think they should be like halo 3 but better like have everything; option to have any skin, like play all forms as elites, Spartans, odst, brutes, jackals, grunts, hunters (halo 1 and & 2 types), drones, forerunners (constructors, monitors, enforcers, and all sentinels), floods (all forms including the ones in halo wars and flood juggernaut and proto gravemind and gravemind and any others), marines, covenant engineers, the prophets, also play as characters from the halo series. Also have every gun in the game like the M6C, halo 2 pistol dual wield-able, the M6D, halo 1 pistol not dual wield-able, M6C/SOCOM, halo odst looks like halo 2 and halo 1 mixed should be duel wield-able but can't zoom in if it is because only single u can zoom same goes for the M7S Caseless Submachine Gun, and all M7 sub machine (some with suppressors and can zoom in but not when duel-wielding 2 of them) all the M6 series. Also the MA5 series (C&B) including MA5K, and shotgun series, BR series, sniper rifle series, rocket launcher series (lock on and none lock on ones), All support weapons (flame thrower series, missile pod, can have stands like the heavy human and covenant machine guns), immovable turrets human and covenant like in halo 2, Shade, Honor guard pike/energy staff, combat knife (human and covenant, jackals carried them in halo contact harvest), Energy Garrote, brute shot and sentinel beams (both red and blue beams like the one in halo 2 that gold sentinels had and were more powerful), spartan laser, all grenades with new one (fragment, concussion, fire bombs, plasma, brute spike grenade and more from the novels), energy sword (and some elites can duel-wield), gravity hammer, fuel rod, mauler, beam rifle, covenant carbine, spiker, both plasma rifles (elite and brute, brute overheats faster and is stronger), needler (can be dual wielded when held by Spartans and elites and brutes) plasma pistol (halo 2 version), all equipment (including the automated turret), hand held shields (jackals use them), and anything that was deleted out of the halo games like weapons, vehicles, flood forms, species, and see the deleted levels, you can read about it on halopedia, http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Flood_Infecto… or look around on http://halo.wikia.com, also firefight with all enemies. Also for vehicles have them and are usable also like spectre, prowler, chopper, ghost, mongoose, warthog, Gauss Warthog, Rocket Warthog, Troop transport Warthog, oh and the missile hog that was in the book halo: fall of reach, elephant, scorpions, banshee (original and heretic), hornet (regular and transport), shadow, scarab, pelican, longsword, spirit, phantom, seraph, Albatross, mythos, AA wraith, wraith, grizzly, and vehicles in halo wars and Halo Custom edition What do you suggest? also sorry its so long its jst want to see for its final halo game.um kane im old enough to be ur dad so stfu oh and all those weapons were before halo 1 also they just didnt have time to put it all in. Why didnt the flood infect bodies in halo 1? why did they only infect infected bodies in halo 2? and why can infect them all now in halo 3? because they didnt have the tech back then for their games so there where alot of stuff they left out. the flood and forerunners were found by humans even before reach, what do you thing halo wars was about? the halo wars 2 game is coming out too but this explains why they didnt tell others about the flood, because they died before they got back to the rest of the humans.Halo wars isnt being made by bungie neither was the first fyi for those that dont know its bungie's last halo game, they dint say anything about other companies not allowed to make more halo games like rumors of gear box making halo 4 but i saw a pick and halo 4 graphic from gear box doesnt look good. moreResolved Question: Is there any way to find out whether police in your area use radar or laser detection equipment?
I've done a lot of research lately on radar detectors, and while there are some good units that detect radar well (valentine V1), there is nothing you can really do to protect yourself from laser detection. While many units will detect the laser, they only do so when the laser is actually targeted on your vehicle, and by the time you do anything about your speed, the police have already made up their mind to pull you over. So while I'd like to get a radar detector, I feel like it would be useless if the majority of police in my area use laser detection. Is there any sort of map, or comprehensive state/county list of what police are using? moreResolved Question: Barracuda VS Kingpin VS The Russian?

His vast bulk shields him from many forms of injury, either providing padding or causing penetration wounds to only strike him relatively superficially. He has extraordinary skill in hand-to-hand combat, specializing in a number of martial arts, including sumo wrestling. His fighting skills and unusual agility for a man of his size compensate for a great difference between his human level of strength and that of Spider-man when the two engage in unarmed combat (Spider-man also has severe inhibitions about using his strength against an opponent without superhuman powers for fear of killing him or her.) The Kingpin is a criminal genius and a highly skilled planner and organizer. He employs numerous henchmen, scientists, and even superhumans, almost all of whom are fiercely loyal to him due to dedication, fear, or both. The Kingpin possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. The Kingpin is virtually as strong as it is possible for a man of his age, height, and weight to be without having superhuman strength. His great bulk does not consist of fat but of muscles that have been developed to enormous size, as in a sumo wrestler. The Kingpin can lift (press) approximately 650 pounds. I'm an artillery observer in the Swiss Armed Forces and was wondering what special equipment other Armies use... If we deploy "fixed" (i.e. digging holes or hiding in buildings) we're equipped with a laser range finder, thermal imager and GPS that we attach to an electronic goniometer that computes target coordinates. These are then sent to a C4ISTAR system (touchscreen computer), which in turn sends all the data via radio to the FDC. Should we ever be deployed on foot, the computer and goniometer stay behind and the target is transmitted manually by radio. Our squads are made up out of 3 privates: driver, radio operator and surveyor/technician plus a (second-)lieutenant: the forward observing officer. I am currently using a laser gage from Origin Technologies, model 1100, to measure it, but at certain corners, due to the size of the laser gage and location of pit, it cannot be used to measure the depth. These parts are traveling through a 50' infrared oven. The air the beam goes through is about 1000 deg F. We use lasers on shorter ovens but as the length of the oven increases the heat affects the beam and makes it too unstable to detect. Any kind of optics at this distance doesn't work. I was hoping to find some type of RF detector (I'm not sure if the heat will affect it or not) that is about the size of the laser equipment. Any ideas would be helpful. In former Yugoslavia, the phrase "ethnic cleansing" was repeatedly used by the media as Serbs and Croats blasted the hell out of each other. ("Slobalong" - whose actual name I don't even want to remember, was tried for war crimes when he was captured years after the war ended). It is obvious, the population in Gaza, is at bursting point... and that the Israelis wish to significantly reduce their numbers... ... that Israel are using the firing of rockets by Hamas (which everyone knows have caused comparatively insignificant damage in Israel), as an EXCUSE... ... to invade... and murder civilians - and their (elected) government - in breach of Humanitarian law. (The rockets have been fired at Israel for 8 years. Israel could have stopped Palestinian resistance years ago simply by appeasing the Palestinians EG. by helping the poor people... just by improving their living conditions... i.e. counter-terrorism tactics, that would go a long way towards calming hotheads, reducing recruitment into the militant resistance, and assisting the reintegration of the Jewish people amongst native Palestinians... i.e. helping both sides to be tolerant, friendly, co-operative neighbours again. (Note: That's just one alternative. An ALTERNATIVE the Israelis, at the beginning of this "conflict," said does not exist). Arguing Gaza is heavily / densely populated... too crowded... the Israelis openly stated their aim to take out those launching rockets who use civilians as human shields. Then they dropped 500 lb bombs, phosphorous bombs, and opened fire using machine-guns fired from helicopters. If Israel only wanted to take out those firing rockets, they could do so meticulously using hi-tech equipment such satelilte pictures and drones to observe men on the ground, entering houses - suspicious activities... infra-red & night vision, and laser targeted bullets - with pin-point accuracy, with NO or very, very few civilian casualties / fatalities. What is happening is population control. By so doing, there's a chance Israel's offensive will be stopped.. when leaders on both sides are formally arrested and charged with war crimes. OK, I have a wireless DSL modem/router that is currently connected to my desktop PC and two printers via ethernet. I did some rearranging to make room for the second printer, a large color laser printer, and now I have blue cables across my office. I don't like cables. I have a Belkin wireless router that's not being used. I would like to plug the two printers into the wireless router, thus eliminating the cables crossing my office, and have the Belkin router "talk" to the DSL modem wirelessly. I know it's doable but I'm not phrasing it well for Google and the Belkin website is useless so I guess I need some human help. Moving the DSL modem/router to the side of the room the printers are on is not an option as there is only one phone jack in the room and as much as I love moving heavy furniture and equipment around, I'm not rearranging my office again! :-) I'd like to avoid spending money on a separate wireless print server if I can use what I already have. moreResolved Question: which'of'these'waring'labels are'the/dumbest?

Hi, I have two small issues while carrying out my experiments: 1) While using Mach Zhender interferometer setup to cause a phase delay, I would need to find out, by how much the fringes have moved. But all the fringes look very similar before and after causing the phase delay. Because of this I have not been able to find out by how much the fringes have moved...Does anybody know how I can go about this??? 2) Causing a phase delay in one of the laser beams is only part of another experiment. The rest of the setup where I look at the interaction of laser beams is all fiber based(i.e lasers are confined to optical fibers).. For causing a phase delay, I thought of again using Mach Zhander interferometer setup.. But the problem is, it is free air based (i.e lasers are reflected around in free air) , so coupling the free air based setup with fiber based setup becomes very difficult... Is there any way, I can cause a phase delay using optical fibers itself...? Do you know of any such equipment being commercially sold, that can enable a phase delay and also has to be fiber based.. Will much appreciate any help with these... THANKS!! moreResolved Question: New radar defense plausible?
I was just surfing the web browsing laser jammers and fantasising about building a radar jammer, and a thought occurred... Since there are only three ranges of frequencies assigned for using speed and range finding electronics, wouldnt it be safe to assume that the speed and range finding equipment often found in late model luxury cars, since it COULD operate coincidentally on the exact same frequency offer the POSSIBILITY of interfereing and ACCIDENTALLY jamming a police radar gun as he measures your speed. Obviously In all likelyhood this wouldnt happen, but in theory it sounds that it is not impossible. How woudl this play out as a defense to a radar speed trap claiming that your car has built in radar transceiver operating at an unknown frequency to you, (and the courtroom) and that it is possibel that they gave a false reading to the radar gun. Is this a plausable sound defense? has this ever been attempted before? Am i a genious or what? Could simply drivign a volvo wagon equipped with collision avoidance sensors be your way out of every speed trap ever?to successfully overpower and "JAM" a radar unit the jamming transceiver need only half of the actual radar guns output, and even then less in actuaity because the strength of the echo is somewhat proportianl to the size of the target in its feild which is a tiny fraction of it. I still say it plasuible that those tiny transmitters have the minimum neccessary output to, under the right circumstances cause a possible misinterpretation of received signals to a radar gun. moreResolved Question: hello everybody!please tell if you are aware of some high power generating hand-held laser equipment that can?

ok so one guy wrote a book and said we can't reproduce the pyramids with modern day technology. That is the biggest bull sh*t if i ever heard it. they say stuff like "u can't fit paper between the rock"... well i should hope not seeing as they are sitting right on top of another. We have laser prescision cutting to make those rocks fit perfectly. we could use the finest of laser surveying equipment and gps to make every rock perfectly in place. Also they claim that it's impossible to get the materials there but i have personally seen a 5 ton rock floated on a average sized kayak made of thatch. Bigger rafts could hold exponentially more. they say we can't reproduce the pyramids...that is seriously the dumbest thing ive ever heard...anyone agree or am i just crazy? if not please give me evidence why we couldn't build the pyramids with modern day technology moreMore Used Laser Equipment Results
