Open Question: How much on average would I make a year working in the occupation of Computer Networks and Security?

I'm in high school at the moment and I'm wanting to go to a Community College for the field of Computer Networks and Security. This college specializes in technology and actually has one of the best programs in the state - so don't get me wrong just because it's not a private/university college. Here is the description from the website (this should provide you with enough information to know about what I'm going to be learning and such): The Computer Networks and Security program focuses on resolving routine hardware and software issues with computers, servers, routers, and clients. You will learn to install, operate, secure, and maintain computer systems and networks used in business and industry. With several computer labs set up with state-of-the-art equipment, you will receive hands-on training that focuses on computer languages, interfaces, and operating systems most commonly used by business and industry today. After graduation, you will be ready to work as a network or PC technician, systems technician, or help-desk technician. Program Details: Entry: Fall or Spring Term Length: 7 terms (21 months) Program: Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) That should be enough information. I plan on working for a large industry also if that helps any. If you work in a field such as this - and don't mind sharing your personal pay - could you please leave me a estimated wage I would get for: Entry pay, Average pay, and Senior pay in this occupation? Please don't just go look off of a website and tell me what it says, for I have done that and they all say different things, I would like an answer by someone that works in a occupation around this area. Thanks!I'll be living most likely in Des Moines Iowa at this time or another big city more

Open Question: who ever can answer these questions will get major points !?

1. you are in a lab and you want to find the mass of hydrogen gas collected in an experiment. you are given sinc metal and a solution of hydrochloric acid. The chemical equation is as follows: Zn (s) + HCl (aq) = ZnCl2 (aq) + h2 (g) How would you carry out this experiment? We are not concerned with the results or numbers. We want the steps that you would follow, equipment you would use and how you would calculate the colume of hydrogen 2. Your task is to prove the acceleration due to gravity is 9.81 m/s(squared) How could you prove this in a lab situation? 3. As a space traveller you land on a unknown planet. Every rock on this planet is exactly the same size and shape. You are told by a local that the rocks have a mass of 450 grubules and a volume of 120 uvuls. One grubule is approx. one kilogram and 2 uvuls is on litre. As you are on the planet your water supply runs outt and your computer equipment and electronic balance malfunction. You know that there is liquid water on the planet, but there are also dangerous lakes of alcohol and acid. Armed with the knowledge from grade 10 science including that the density of water is 1.00 g/ml and a glass bucket, how will you find water and know it is water ? =PLEASE HELPPP ! more

Voting Question: Experimental Errors for Titration Lab?

Can someone give me 3 experimental errors when doing a titration lab using standardized NaOH solution, KHP, and Vinegar. When I say experimental errors i mean errors due to the limitation of lab equipments. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Dog Diarrhea (Again!)?

Here goes (sorry for the long winded post I'm about to make) My dog has had severe bouts of Diarrhea since we first brought him home at 7 weeks old, he is now 8 months old. he's a black lab cross Belgian shepherd. most of the time he has Diarrhea...he is on hills I/D prescription diet which seems to work but he still gets Diarrhea on a weekly basis, theres no apparent reason for it. he has been to 3 different vets surgery's now and each of them that have seen him have prescribed metronidzole antibiotics, and within a day his stools are back to normal so it really works, however 2 days after the course of antibiotics have finished the Diarrhea returns. vets have said that these could be the causes which we have been through each one and tried to find a solution: 1, Diet...we have only used the highest quality foods available, to no avail. (we've tried the entire stock at pets at home) so hence the hills prescription (really expensive) diet. 2, Bacteria/viruses, antibiotics administered with effects listed above. 3, Stress, we eradicated all situations that could possibly cause our dog stress, like visitors/new people etc, he has a to the minute routine and we even brought the D.A.P plug in... no help there, 3 months later no change. the only time he gets stressed out is at the vets. 4, Worms/Ticks/Fleas..not on my watch, we use vet prescribed drontal plus tablets (every 3 months like clock work) and vet prescribed flea treatment, advocate for dogs over 40lbs (every 4 weeks) 5, eating things he shouldn't? nope..he doesn't touch any rubbish or pick up anything from outside on his walks. 6, Exercise...he gets 3 hours a day and a training session in the middle so he's mentally stimulated as well as fully exercised. I'm not happy with the way that the vets keep revisiting the list of things above or saying fill him up with pasta for a few days.(it doesn't work!) and im not happy with the Diarrhea being gone for the course of the antibiotics only to just go back again the next week. its no good for him and no good for us either lol. if anyone has any suggestions to add as to the likely cause please, please feel free to help! if theres any vets out there with a different idea that we could try that would be brilliant! i don't know if the vets have carried out any tests to rule out IBS or other causes, because i think they are convinced that its one of the above....and each new vet we go to wants to go through the list again from scratch. most of the time during a bout of Diarrhea and he's ended up at the vets they have all said i can feel inflamed intestines. Before he was given antibiotics he was given other medications to help firm him up but none of them worked...even had an injection at one point that the vet said is more than 90 percent garenteed to work (and of course it didnt!) when we had our dog castrated, he had a huge amount of blood in his stool with watery diarrhea was then given antibiotics and told the suspected cause was stress. he doesn't have any type of treats at all or any rawhide chews...we gave him a nylabone instead so its not treats. Pasta helps a little but not to the extent that you can actually pick up the stools. chicken and rice is useless. scrambled egg works about the same as the pasta. i cant afford a raw diet...i have 2 children and im on a very limited money budget and cooking all of his meals wont work either..any change in food however small it is sets him off with explosive Diarrhea, so he would need to be feed the same thing every meal, and wouldn't get everything he would need in the way of vitamins etc. its not an allergy to any food bowls feeding equipment like forks etc, we've tried stainless steel, ceramic, and plastic bowls with no change. oh and he doesn't eat any human food! i did ask the vet if its possible that he just has very lose bowels (ive heard of this before) but after seeing a sample of his average bowel movement, everyones agreed that isn't possible. ive also asked if it could be a blockage of some kind..nope they don't think it is. Well thats it i cant think of any other information that might be helpful at the moment...anyone else stumped? join the club :s lol To anyone that might like to reply with a nasty answer..im not giving up, so please dont suggest that i do.. i love my dog like he's one of the family, so im not about to give him up or have him put down, i would entertain the idea if it affected his life in a big way but it doesn't, hes happy and active, oh and he still manages to get outside to the garden every time..so no "accidents" he just shows me he needs to go by sitting at the door..or he whines if its a really bad need. Many thanks in advance to everyone that replys! xOops sorry the advocate weight was meant to be *for dogs between 25- 40 kgi gave that much information so you don't have to answer with something thats already been considered :) sorryThanks for your answers, he had severe diarrhea when he came to us as a pup, so there was something wrong to start with. i have been following the vets advice because...well you just trust the professionals right? and with so many different opinions out there you never want to take a risk...one person says feed yogurt one person says advoid dairy, one person says worm him again one person says dont, so so confusing so you ask a so called expert...only to be told their advice is wrong. yes pasta was feed...because thats what i was told to do..obviously. his food hasnt been changed that much actually, about 4 times as its really hard to find good quality foods in the uk pet shops. Ive always changed the food extremely slowly, never all at once! more

Resolved Question: help me clean my linoleum floor workspace?!? really need help?

okay. this is whats up. i work inside a lab, which is inside of an office. it has linoleum flooring. (it's in an office, so i CANNOT USE VINEGAR, lol. it will smell too bad.) i plan on going to target today and picking up all the equipment / cleaning supplies i need to clean up the floor. so this is where you come in (the avid household cleaner / stay at home mom) and suggest the best solution? it's dirty because of two things; 1 - i'm not perfect; i drop crums and bits of food sometimes. this gets stuck to the floor cause i sit on a rolling office chair. 2 - black plastic both from my shoes and from the wheels and just dirt gets "rolled on" flat onto my floor, and it's starting to look EMBARRASSING so does Swiffer wetjet or something have any good tricks for this or...? any help is welcomed! i will be watching this question adamantly :D more

Resolved Question: Can I have multiple servers behind one WAN IP address?

I am studying for my Cisco CCNA & my MCSE, and would like to setup a lab to practice with. I would like to setup a web server, mail server, FTP, etc.. and I wasn't sure if I can do this with one one WAN IP address? All of the book examples show multiple WAN IP's that a business would have. I am assuming it would be possible to forward the required ports to the required server, for example forward ports 25, 143 to the mail server, ports 80,8080 to the web server etc... Is this the way to do it or should I look into another method? or perhaps wait and study some more :) ?( I just started on my ICND1 if you can't tell lol). Also I will be using ESXi to run virtualized servers so each VM would perform a specific role (which would also give me a dedicated LAN IP for each one). Equipment: pfSense firewall Cisco 2600 routers Cisco 2900 + 2950 Catalyst switches ESXi server and an additional amd box. Planning on using Server2003 R2 and 2008 trials. more

Resolved Question: Why do TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) blood test normal ranges vary with different labs?

Endocrinologists usually say that the normal range is .3 to 3.0 uIU/ML, while the old accepted ranges were .5 to 5.0 uIU/ML. But all the references I find also say "ranges may vary with different labs. Does this mean that labs do not all use standardized equipment for this, or that they just set their own standards. The lab that read my report said 0.34 to 4.82 uIU/ML was normal. more

Resolved Question: The linear expansion coefficient of a solid?

I`m going to have an experiment about the linear expansion coefficient of a solid. The procedure is quite long to explain but in this experiment we used equipments like linear expansion measuring device, steam generator, metal bar, thermometer and a beaker. We need to solve these questions before we enter the lab: 1)What is the case that the length change isn't exactly proportional to the temperature 2)Verify the coefficient of the volume expansion 3)Check the quality of material of each sample bar from the measured linear expansion coefficient I don`t have any idea how to answer..I`m very suck in physics..help!!! more

Resolved Question: anthrax! check writing ! pls write correct form than!?

Could somebody chek my writing and grammer! and pls comment! and if i could turn it in like that? the job was to research the most recent event conerning anthrax anthrax is bactierial.how is bioterrorism with bacteria different than with a virus?and to list the safety clean up procedures for each type sry im german and im live in the us Anthrax Anthrax is an disease caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis. Most forms of the disease are deadly, and it affects both humans and animals. It is able to survive in harsh conditions for an extremly long amount of time.It can be found everywhere.Infected Animals can spread anthrax to humans by direct contact or by eating infected animals meet.It was found by Robert Koch in 1849 in sheep blood. Anthrax was used as an Biological weapon since the medieval times, back than they threw the infected cadaver from animals over the walls and just waited till the population died.In the first World War they experimented with it but unsuccessful. After that the japanese tested it on war prisioners succesfully. In the second world war France developed an Anthraxpathogen, the germans than took it from them when they overruned france. There are Roomers that the U.S worked on the same time on a Anthrax bomb.More recently the Rhodesian government used anthrax against humans in the period 1978–1979 during its war with black nationalists. The U.S millitary and British Army are routinely vaccinated against anthrax prior to soldiers in places where biological attacks are considered a threat. The anthrax vaccine contains non-living bacteria it is probably to 93 % effective in preventing an infection. In 1971 weaponized stocks of antrhax were destroyed in the US under the order of president nixon. But reasearch has shown that the millitary still has bioweapons. To use antrax as a weapon is highly dificult because to make large amounts of anthrax bacteria suitable for biological warfare requires extensive practical knowledge, training, and highly advanced equipment.anthrax spores were used for bioterrorism in the 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States, delivered by mailing postal letters containing the spores,a few grams of material were used in these attacks.Because of these events, the U.S. Postal Service installed biohazard detection systems.China was lately concerned of antrhax because of an recent earthquake in their mountain regions. The safety/clean procedures for bacteria are first to Treat all bacteria as potential pathogens, very important is also to Sterilize equipment and materials.Third is Disinfect work areas before and after use,to wash your hands, never touch your mouth, not to eat or drink in the lab or in areas where bad bacteria is stored, and to clean up spills with care. The difference between bacteria and viruses is that bacteria respond to antibiotics, viruses dont! There can be virus vaccines created but that doesent guarantee a person won't still get the virus. more

Resolved Question: PLEASE HELP WITH MATH!!!?

Hi..im a senior and i need to graduate in 2 weeks and i have one assignment left..i dont get it at all! Please Help!!! Its alot- Equipment: Tape Measure Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to practice multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting polynomials with a purpose in mind. I know this business trip will take valuable time, but it does review all concepts in this module, and it is worth 20 points. If you take your time and do it properly, it will help raise your grade. For the company, the purpose here is to preview some possible living space for its employees. The formulas that you will need are perimeter equals the sum of twice the length and twice the width (P=2L+2W), and area equals the product of the length and the width (A=LW). Procedure: Part 1: Using your knowledge of polynomial addition and subtraction (combining like terms), answer the following questions. Write your work and answers in the Assignment Area labeled Part 1. 1. Find entire length of this two bedroom apartment in terms of x. 2. Find the entire width of this two-bedroom apartment a (not counting the patio) in terms of x. (Be careful, the width of bath 1 is not given, but the width of the entry is the same as the width of the pantry. With that information, you can find the width of the left hand side of the house.) Part 2: Using your knowledge of the distributive property and polynomial addition and subtraction, answer the following questions. (Remember, P=2L+2W.) Write your answers in the same assignment labeled Part 2. 3. Find the perimeter of the entire 2-bedroom apartment (excluding the patio) in terms of x. 4. Find the perimeter of the living room and dining room in terms of x. 5. Find the perimeter of the master bedroom, excluding the sitting area and the closets. Part 3: Using your knowledge of solving linear equations, answer the following questions. Write your work and answers in the same assignment labeled Part 3. 6. If the perimeter of the living room and dining room is 60 feet, what is the value of x? 7. If the perimeter of the master bedroom excluding the sitting area and the closets is 42 feet, what is the value of x? 8. If the length of the entire apartment is 57 feet, what is the value of x? Part 4: You have reviewed polynomial multiplication and division in this module, practice now. (Remember, A=LW.) 9. Find the area of the entire living room/dining room. 10. Find the area of the patio. 11. Find the area of the entire apartment (excluding the patio). Note: don't forget to subtract for the cutout area in the upper left corner. 12. If the area of the kitchen was 2x-4, what would be the width? Write the expression or number for the width. 13. If the area of the dining room and living room is 300 sq. ft., what is the equation that would be used to solve for x? Write the equation with zero on the right, ready to solve. 14. If the area of the entire apartment is 800 sq. ft., what is the equation that would be used to solve for x? Use the length and width from questions 1 and 2. Do not worry about the area of the patio or the corner that is cut out of the living room/dining room. Write the equation with zero on the right, ready to solve. Part 5: 15. Find the area of your bedroom, Label it A. Using the dimensions of the Master Bedroom in Figure 1, Write an equation using (x + 8) as length- L and (2x – 3) as the width-W and the actual area you found for your room-A. Manipulate the equation so that it is set equal to zero, in the form: ax2+ bx + c = 0... DO NOT SOLVE!!! more

Resolved Question: Chemistry - Decomposing Bleach?

I am in need of help of finding a way to decompose bleach (sodium hypochlorite). I have to design an experiment and have no idea where to start. What catalyst should I add to decompose bleach? How can I raise the temperature using standard lab equipment? What procedure do I use? How do I measure the rate of the decomposition? How do I see the reaction occurring? What other factors affect this decomposition reaction? Is the formula: NaOCl -> NaCl + O2 or NaOCl -> NaO + Cl2 ? Much thanks for your help.I am stuck. I don't even know how the logic goes with this reaction. more

Voting Question: Are there any reading materials (books, webpages, etc) on laboratory management?

We have a core laboratory whose storage and benchtop space is improperly managed, among other things. Several scientific groups with approved projects can gain access to use of lab equipment, and space (benchtop and storage). But two groups are monopolizing now. There is new institute director now: how can he be given good advice to stop squabbles over real estate and resource scheduling? more

Resolved Question: Can you translate this to French for me please?

Im writing to a pen pal in France and I would like to tell him how my school works................................ I go to two different schools everyday monday through friday. School starts at eight o'clock in the morning and does not get out til two twenty in the afternoon. We have six classes, my first three classes are at a Tech school for photography. Here we learn techniques on how to take better photos. My fourth hour is French class, my fifth hour is english class, and my last hour is single survival. In photography I already told you what we pretty much do in there. We get to use really expensive equipment, and we also get experience using photo shop and on really nice cameras. In this class we get to take a lot field trips for photo shoots. In French class we study the culture of France and we learn how to speak basic sentences. In my english class we mainly read old english poems and we have to write a lot of research papers. Sometimes we even have to go to the computer lab to help us research or the library. In single survival class we are basically learning how to make it on our own when we move out. We are learning how to manage our money better and useful stuff like that. more

Resolved Question: Is my paper grammatically correct?

Are there any mistakes in my research paper??? Could i reword things to make it smoother?? Hunter Santiago Mrs. Malone English II May 5, 2010 Radiation Therapist In the United States, approximately 3,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each day. These individuals get their whole life spanned out on a timeline; one that includes their death. Few things can be done to help these people whose only hope is for hope itself. Radiation therapy is one of the few things these desperate people hope for. This, in part, is one of the many reasons why I chose a career in radiation therapy. Radiation therapy falls under the Health Science cluster, which also includes doctors, surgeons, and pharmacists. According to my Kuder assessment results, I show very promising amounts of interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics region of the interest inventory. Kuder also informed me of my high skill foundation that I have already begun to lay in the Health Science cluster where my career as a radiation therapist stands. My interests and my skills aren’t the exact equivalents of one another; they can be easily aligned given that I will gain experience in the field of health technology to operate the needed equipment. While working with Kuder, I also received insight on which work values mean the most to me as well as the least. It has come to my attention that I value Security in my occupation above all else, alongside Co-Workers and Challenge. A career in radiation therapy, no doubt, offers all three and many more. Because of the increasingly large number of people diagnosed with cancer each day, radiation therapists will be in high demand to meet the needs of the diagnosed patients. Income is on the bottom of my importance list, while lifestyle is closer to the top. I would prefer to maintain a social lifestyle with me friends and fellow co-workers and still obtain the job I’ve always dreamt of. Regardless, my career in radiation therapy will definitely support any lifestyle of my choosing. (Kuder) A radiation therapist is a valuable member of a cancer treatment team who delivers radiation treatments to patients, helps construct treatment plans, and works with cancer patients and their families. (Adams) A radiation therapist also uses radiation to treat cancer in the body through a process known as radiation therapy. During radiation therapy, a Linear Accelerator is used to direct x-ray or gamma ray beams to the cancerous areas in the body. This radiation causes cancer cells to die, and eventually shrinks tumors. Employers usually require applicants for this job to have an associate or a bachelor’s degree in a radiation therapy program. These programs include core courses about radiation therapy procedures and the scientific theories behind them. In addition to these core courses, additional courses on human anatomy, physiology, physics, algebra, precalculus, writing, public speaking, computer science, and research methodology are also included in the programs. In May 2008, wages in the radiation therapy field averaged about $72,910. The lowest ten percent earned less than $47,910, while the highest ten percent earned more than $104,350. First-year radiation therapists earn up to $28.49 an hour, while people with at least one year experience can earn up to $30.08 an hour. Furthermore, someone with at least ten years on their belt (or lab coat in this case) can earn as much as $39.11 per hour, averaging to about $81,348 a year. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) Work for a radiation therapist would occur in any hospital around the world that offers radiation therapy as part of its cancer treatment. The usual work hours of a radiation therapist are from 7:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Radiation therapists may be called in on weekends as well as during the night. There are many opportunities for advancement as a radiation therapist. These advancements are centered mainly around radiologic technology and eventually include operating an entire radiology department in a hospital, or becoming a radiologic technology researcher. In the future, the plea for radiation therapists will grow at extreme rates given that 1.5 million people will continue to be diagnosed with cancer as was the case in 2009. As with all medical occupations, the demands will always continue to increase along with the complexity of medical technology. As a high school sophomore, I will land this job by graduating at the top of my class and attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville. There, I will major in radiology with a minor in oncology. I will again graduate at the top of my class. In the next fifteen years, I will be a certified radiation therapist in the state of Tennessee and hopefully continue my education in a California university. Becoming a radiation therapist will mean the world to me. I will be allowed to help cancer patients lead longer lives and gi more

Resolved Question: Can someone answer this personal injury question?

I attend bible college and I'm studying to be a minister, I'll graduate in two years. I was supposed to leave for Haiti for lab week when my doctor at the VA told me that I couldn't go. Apparently, I had some more immunizations to take. So I decided to do my Lab work on campus, painting the music rooms for the music ministry. We completed the choir room on Thursday, March 18, 2010. After lunch we moved the equipment to the vocal room. One of the other people who when painting, took the ladder that I'd been using before lunch. So I chose a piano bench to stand on. I'd finished most of my side of the wall and the young man on the other side of the wall was about to finish by meeting in the middle. Most of you that paint know that if you use a paint roller, a blank space is usually left between the roller and the ceiling. So I stepped down from the bench and replaced the roller in the paint pan and got the brush. I stepped back onto the bench and reached up to fill in the space, but I didn't get the chance. The first crack that I heard was the piano bench's leg crack. I tried to roll away from the desk and piano that were behind me. The second crack that I heard was my arm breaking my fall. As I lay there on the floor, I don't know how I remained calm enough to look over to my hand which was partially detached from my wrist. First, I tried to wiggle my fingers. they moved. Then I tried to wiggle my thumb. It moved. Then my eyes moved up to my wrist and I saw my bone sticking out by two inches. I have a compound fracture in three places that required reconstructive surgery. I have breaks in two places on the radius and one place on the ulna bone that have metal and pins to helped them mend. Amazingly I was truly blessed because my head came two inches from hitting the piano. I would've been paralyzed or dead. I praised Jesus all the way to the hospital. God is truly great! The problem? I now have a hospital bill that's $31,107.70 and an anesthesia bill for $987.00. The bible college that I attend have provided me modifications/accommodations through Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act since I have a documented disability. That's about all she wrote. I have no insurance and I usually go to the VA. I wasn't taken to the VA. My injury is going to take over a year to heal and I have to go through therapy. The bible college is a not for profit school and receives funds from the surrounding metropolitan area churches, alumni, and businesses. They offer free tuition. So, I feel awkward about filing a lawsuit. One attorney said that I probably can't recoup any losses because of their not for profit status but I should look for the manufacturer of the piano bench. Any suggestions? Only serious answers please. more

Only serious answers please. more

Resolved Question: Biology experiment ideas?

I'm in a high school biology class and our final project is to create a hypothesis (ie. water with high pH causes plants to grow taller) and run the experiment. There are no limitations other than it must be school appropiate, and we can't use any equipment costing over a total of $15 or so. My lab partner and I prefer not to use animals or plants.... leaving us with people as our subjects. One idea we had was the effect of spicy food on one's heart rate. Any other ideas? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: What grade did you get in your first college-level chemistry class?

It was the first class I jumped into when I began college last fall, and I had no idea what I was in store for... The course description said, "For those who have never had or need a review of high school chemistry." I was homeschooled, so I never had the resources to use actual lab equipment, so I really wanted the experience. I talked with fellow students who DID have a high school course, and they said that basic college chemistry was way more difficult than high school chemistry had ever been. Many students dropped the class, and our professor seemed to have little faith that we could handle what he was dishing out. It isn't fun to be taught by someone who expects you to fail. We mostly used numbers and calculations during our studies. I had thought chemistry would be interesting. I ended up with a B+ after a great deal of stress and effort, which many people would be happy with, but I strive for all A's. I did great in all other subjects. Can I expect chemistry to get harder next semester? Will it get more interesting? I just need some reassurance that chemistry isn't so bad. I'm seriously thinking about pursuing a medical career, like perhaps a clinical pathologist, a pharmacist, a dietician, or an anesthesiologist. I'm confident that I have the brains and determination (if not the money), but then one little chemistry course was sooo hard. Maybe I jumped in too soon? more

Resolved Question: What is this piece of lab equipment called?

It's essentially a tube which you use to transfer a large volume of a reagent from one flask into another without explosing it to the atomsphere. One end of the tube is connected to the flask containing the reagent, and the other end is connected to the other flask. Argon pressure is then applied to the first flask so that it forces the reagent up through the tube into the second flask. I know it begins with a C, but I can't quite recall the name. more

Resolved Question: Given the following, is it not inevitable that Obamacare's cost will be measured in lost lives of the elderly?

In 2011: cuts begin for Medicare Advantage; the elderly are no longer allowed to use Health Care Account (FSA, HSA, HRA, Archer MSA) distributions for over-the-counter medicine; Medicare cuts to home health begin; wealthier seniors begin paying higher Part D premiums (not indexed for inflation in Parts B/D); new Medicare cuts to long-term care hospitals begin in July; Medicare reimbursement will be cut when seniors use diagnostic imaging like MRIs, CT scans, etc., and cuts begin for ambulance services, ASCs, diagnostic labs, and durable medical equipment. And, additional Medicare cuts to hospitals and to nursing homes and inpatient rehab facilities begin after October, along with cuts for dialysis treatment; Medicare will reduce spending by using an HMO-like coordinated care model; new Medicare cuts to inpatient psych hospitals begin in July; Medicare cuts to hospice begin in fiscal 2013, accompanied by cuts to hospitals that treat low-income seniors. In 2014 more Medicare cuts to home health begin. Or do you believe that the elderly will still recieve the life extending services even after Obama quits paying for them? http://bdtonline.com/columns/x769246155/The-health-care-reform-bill-has-passed-now-we-know-what-s-in-it more

Voting Question: making alcohol from sugar? for burning (fuel)?

well my school is having a little science fair and for my groups project we will be needing a fuel which we will cannot purchase. so i guess alcohol from sugar seems to be the best bet. but is there anyway to separate the alcohol other than distillation because we are not allowed to use the lab equipment so distilation may be a problem. will any yeast do? and how long would i need to leave it for high concentration? more

Resolved Question: Lucent Technologies Management?

2. Evaluate the asset, debt and equity structure of Lucent Technologies, as well as trends and changes found on the common-size balance sheet. 4. What additional financial and non-financial information would investors and creditors need to make investing and lending decisions for Lucent Technologies? Executive Summary We design and deliver the systems, software and services that drive next-generation communications networks. Backed by Bell Labs research and development, we use our strengths in mobility, optical, access, data and voice networking technologies, as well as services, to create new revenue-generating opportunities for our customers, while enabling them to quickly deploy and better manage their networks. Our customer base includes communications service providers, governments and enterprises worldwide. We have three segments organized around the products and services we sell. The reportable segments are Integrated Network Solutions (“INS”), Mobility Solutions (“Mobility”) and Lucent Worldwide Services (“Services”). INS provides a broad range of software and wireline equipment related to voice networking (primarily consisting of switching products, which we sometimes refer to as convergence solutions, and voice messaging products), data and network management (primarily consisting of access and related data networking equipment and operating support software) and optical networking. Mobility provides software and wireless equipment to support radio access and core networks. Services provides deployment, maintenance, professional and managed services in support of both our product offerings as well as multi-vendor networks. Beginning in fiscal 2001, the global telecommunications market deteriorated, resulting from a decrease in the competitive local exchange carrier market and a significant reduction in capital spending by established service providers. This trend intensified during fiscal 2002 and continued into fiscal 2003. Reasons for the market deterioration included general economic slowdown, network overcapacity, customer bankruptcies, network build-out delays and limited availability of capital. We believe that the market for telecommunications equipment has stabilized and is starting to grow in certain areas. The growing demands of enterprises and consumers for additional services tailored to their needs is creating the need for a new convergence of networks, technologies and applications. Required 1. Research: chloroplasts are the site of photosynthesis. chlorophyll allows the cell to get energy from light. its a series of chemical reactions. REACTANTS are obtained from the enviornment...(im using water...hot/cold). once you get products the cell must convert the sugar to another form of energy which is ATP. Hypothesis: If the Elodea will be placed in boiling water or cold water then, the substance in the hot water will produce a chemical reaction unlike in the cold water. i will do the experiment tomorrow in class so the rest of the scientific method will have to wait:) more

Resolved Question: My Graduate school classmates are driving me crazy? advice?

I am in a small, competitive program in a specialized field of engineering. I know it's hard work but I strive to achieve balance in my life and I am in no way shape or form a slacker. I just have a job with a major company and a life outside of my career too! My classmates are really out of control with the competition lately. Whenever I get paired up with one to work on a project, I get bombarded with emails, phone calls, and backhanded remarks 24/7. I give them absolutely no reason to ever worry as I have never turned in anything below an A quality paper or project since I have been there. When we have a lab together, many of them make sure to cover up their papers (even though we are supposed to work together as a group) and even bring their equipment to a corner of the room to work away from the group. In class, asking an honest question is an open invitation for a full on debate! One time I even got stopped in the middle of a power point presentation I was giving by a woman trying to debate me!!! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRESENTATION!!! She didn't even have the courtesy to wait until the Q/A session. I got paired up with someone for a very simple project (which will take an hour or two tops) that is due in a month and I have already been sent 3 emails which were forwarded to our professor for absolutely no reason because there was no reason to involve him in the matter. If I make a mistake, forget it...there's at least 5 fingers ready behind me to point it out. I am running out of comebacks and I am loosing my patience. I am no longer able to play it as cool as I used to. I need advice from people on how to better deal with the situation at hand. I don't want to loose my mind, but I feel like I am starting to. They stress me out more than the actual work does!!!! Was everyone else's grad program THIS competitive? more

Resolved Question: CCNA practice lab equipment?

In the fall, I'm signed up for classes to start working towards getting a CCNA (and I'm currently taking a Network+ this semester). It's been suggested that I should look into building a small practice lab. I'd like to start gathering some equipment now, since it'd be easier (financially) to obtain the equipment over time instead of all at once. However, in my research, I keep finding a bunch of different suggestions on exactly what equipment I should get. I was wondering if anyone could recommend what models (routers and switches) I should look into getting for a CCNA? I'm still debating if I want to go for a normal CCNA, or a CCNA voice, is there any equipment that could be used for both tracks, or is the equipment for the two relatively independent? more

Resolved Question: Do you consider completing research project for a masters 'management experience"?

In my masters project I had to: - identify tasks to be completed, and schedule personnel to complete the tasks (including evening shifts, and work outside our research group) - often times had to deal with lab employees being out sick or scheduling them around vacations, etc. - search for products and arrange for them to be procured (although this always had to be ok-ed by my supervisor) - select a research site (outdoor work) and had to communicate with another company to acquire a license to use their land - since it was my project it was my responsibility to assist personnel with tasks and ensure they were completed properly - communicate with external companies for servicing of our equipment basically I was responsible for planning tasks related to the project, making sure everything was organized, directing others on what to do when, and how to do it, and also keeping tabs on everything, making sure supplies were available, making sure work was done correctly, etc. So as long as I point out it was through a masters project, is it ok to say I have experience managing people/resources on a resume? I also taught after school courses to young kids and TA'ed numerous university courses where planning classes, teaching, dealing with large groups of students (supervising them) was necessary. Please let me know your thoughts!! more

Resolved Question: please advice me on how to get lab equipments (molecular bio) no longer being used in the western countries?

I am an academic biochemist in Kenya, and have tried to get some laboratories in UK to donate equipment that they no longer use/need. I am trying to establish some research work using molecular biology equipments eg PCR machines, centrifuges, weighing balance etc At our institute we have have managed to scrounge and buy at least one of these, but they are not enough for all of us. If any one is able to advice me on this I would be most thankful. more
