Resolved Question: Mr&Mrs America`s Window is broke, Who will Fix it?

Not long a go the large Beautiful picture window in the America`s living room was broke. As they stood holding each other in their front yard, all the people in their neighborhood gathered around in shock, and disbelief, they were worried that if this could happen to the American`s it could happen to them next. They all went before the neighborhood committee and demanded something should be done to fix the American`s window, and protect everyone`s window. The committee members did not know who or what broke the American`s window, But they all agreed that Mr & Mrs America needed their window fixed, and the neighborhood Constitution said that it was the American`s right to have a window of opportunity took look out into their yard, and feel the sun`s ray`s of hope, and to keep out the cold winds of winter. After weeks of talks and arguments, they voted for two men, that they thought could fix the window. the two men told the committee that they had a plan in place, that would quickly fix the window, but they would need the committee to raise the funds to fix the window. In a month the two men returned before the committee members with their plan, and told the Committee that the cost would be staggering, but they would have the window fixed before winter. and they said the cost would run around around $175,000.00. The committee member were stunned and they looked at each other dumbfounded. The chairman asked the men why would it cost $175,000.00 to fix the American`s window, when the house was only worth 1/3 of that amount? The two men explained that the ladder and the few tools they would need didn`t cost that much, but they was told that with they would need to buy a building permit, and there were City, State and Federal building code that would have to be followed, and environmental and health regulations to abide by. they had to hire a attorney to read through all the red tape. they had to buy a business permit, they had to hire union workers, and minority's. have them screened for drugs, buy workers comp and unemployment and health insurance, and they had to buy a large bond to cover the cost if something went wrong.and they told that they would have to cover the job site with a large tent and buy special clothing and safety equipment in case there were any hazarded waste from the old house. and a environmentalist group said there was a rare yellow headed snaggled tooth woodpecker nesting in the tree in the yard of the America`s, and they had to pay for a study of the effect their working would have on the Bird. the committee members were all shocked at the news, and shaking their heads they gave the two men all the money. 18 months later the men returned in front of the committee and said they had got a lot done, but they would need more money. The committee member were upset and angerly asked what was going on, what happen to all the money and what had the two men done so far? the men said that they had Duct Taped a piece of cardboard over the America`s window, but they had cut of a little flap so the America`s could lift it and peek out to see any opportunity's in their front yard. The committee members were upset and mad, they started fighting each other, there were rallies being held all over the neighborhood and everyone was threating to vote them all out of office in the next up coming elections. So to some this up I`ll just said that the window in the American`s house AIN`T been fixed yet and the out come looks very gloomy for Mr & MRS AMERICA more

Open Question: can we have a airsoft war at my house?

Voting Question: How does the first part of my science fiction book look?

Chapter 01: Ariana Leisler could not possibly understand what was so bad about being “abnormal.” For one, she rather enjoyed the feeling of washing flasks in the school lab late on Friday nights. She loved the way the room looked when it was clear and spotless and private. She loved the way she could dance around the room because no one was there to make fun of her. She loved the way it felt like all that mattered was her, the detergent, and the dishes—almost as if, once she returned home for dinner, her parents wouldn’t be at it again. No, not arguing with each other. Arguing with her. Most of all, what she loved about the lab was the way she didn’t have to sit at the kitchen table and listen to yet another lecture on how staying late after lectures to work on projects was hazardous to her social life, and how no man in his right mind had ever chosen a wife who put science before life. This night, it had been particularly terrible. “We love you,” her mother had said, “and we just don’t want you to get hurt.” “Mom, dad,” she had said, “how would I get hurt? The lab is very safe.” She paused to maneuver a spoonful of spaghetti into her mouth, then continued where she left off. “They actually put in a new security system last May. It’s hooked up and everything—it’s pretty legit. Also,” she’d say, “I’m in college. I can handle myself.” “Hun, we weren’t talking about your physical safety,” her mother said. “We know your university’s safe.” “Then what are you so worried about?” “Well,” he mother said, “what about… A boyfriend?” “Mom, I know Andy from down the street is single. I know that. And,” said Ariana, “for the thousandth time, I’m not interested. Besides, I have Chem work to do.” A dab of marinara sauce fell from her fork onto her white blouse. “You do more than necessary, sweetie.” “That’s how Einstein did it,” said Ariana, wheeling her spaghetti around her spoon. “I’m fine.” “That’s what Andy said!” her fourteen-year-old brother, Brandon, had squealed from down the table. The focus shifted from her social wreck to her brother, who, Ariana figured, had at least some shot of being a cool kid. He had the money. He had the clothes. He’d been asked out more times than Ariana could remember being asked herself. There was more hope for him than there had been for her, an awkward, bookish girl who had braces at the same time Brandon had a skateboard. Ariana bit her lip and rose from the table. She stacked her cup on top of her half-empty plate and walked to the sink and began soaking the dirty dishes the same way she had, just an hour ago, soaked the flasks from today’s research. It was a usual Friday routine: going to her parents’ house for dinner. Her brother missed her, though he swore he didn’t, and her parents worried for her safety. Ariana wasn’t very surprised by the events of earlier that night—or what was now, judging from the clocks, yesterday. She leaned against the counter as the timer clicked the minutes away. The flasks had five minutes more in the autoclave—the giant steam machine she sterilized equipment in. She bit her lip and looked up at the clock. The cafeteria was closed, she realized, and she was still hungry, having left dinner early. She walked towards the window that faced the campus clocktower. The night was silent and serene, the glass lit with the uneven, yellow glares of streetlamps. The abysmal sky remained dark and quiet, filled with clusters of clouds that looked like steel wool, floating along, waiting for the hands of some grand builder to put it to use.. The hands of the massive clock toomed slowly and sharply, and the sound of the one o’ clock bell reminded Ariana of the whispering graph paper that was kept in the second drawer on the left. The night was usual, routine. There was absolutely nothing, Ariana felt, that distinguished this night from any other Friday night, other than the fact that she’d stayed so long at the lab that Friday night had since become Saturday morning. She bit her lip and surveyed the campus once again. The science building was a beige, modern building—the tallest at the university. The outside, peppered with only streetlights and a telephone, looked so disinteresting Ariana often wondered if that was the sole reason no one else stayed in it late at night—just the fact that it appeared so boring that maybe nothing was within except more shades of khaki. more

Resolved Question: my hcg levels are high?

My HCG levels are 219 000 at 7 weeks. I had an ultrasound yesterday and there is a fetus with a heartbeat and its right size. One of the radiologist felt she saw something on my placenta, so she sent me up to the Fetal Assessment clinic (equipment there is much better) but the doctor up there felt my placenta looked okay. He said its a bit thick, but a lot of women have thick placentas. He did say my HCG has to be monitored and he wants to do an ultrasound every two weeks. Has anyone else had these high levels of hcg? What was the outcome. Back in May I had to terminate my pregnancy at 17 weeks because the baby had trisomy 18 and would not have made it. It became a safety risk for me because I have type 2 diabetes and I am over 35. more

Resolved Question: Should I be preparing a funeral for my computer?

I heard a loud noise from the computer. No doubt it was a fuse being blown. The CPU is plugged into a power board with a safety switch and two other pieces of equipment attached to it (both of which are fine). Once I realized that the computer wouldn't switch on, I used different power points all over the house with different power leads, with no luck. So, obviously it's burnt out. But does that mean I have lost all my work? Would the burn-out destroyed my hard disk? Very ignorant with all this, so any help appreciated. more

Voting Question: How do you feel about mandatory visors?

I fully support mandatory visors. Now this is odd for me because my dad was born in 1951. He was watching hockey back when it was real nasty, so when he got me into the game, he raised me on scrappy back-alley hockey from the original six days. While I also appriciate the skill of the game immensely, I like fights and antics too, and I view many modern rules and equipment changes as "pussifying the game". However visors are different. I look at it like this. If a guy gets seriosuly hurt because of a fight or a hard hit, well that's unfortunate, but it's hockey, it happens. But if a guy gets seriosuly hurt because he got caught in the eye, I think that's just cheap, just liek getting punched in the back of the head by Todd Bertuzzi is cheap. Terrible way to get injured. I would hate to see a career end because of an eye getting knocked out, so I think visors should be made mandatory BEFORE a terrible accident rather than after, which is when most safety measures are made, which is stupid. The only thing is they have to be detachable, and easily removable for the goons, because visors have absolutely no place in fights, and should be able to be removed before a fight begins WITHOUT removing the helmet because that's asking for a fatal bump on the ice. What do you think about mandatory visors?@ Expat Mike: Getting rid of fighting would be pussifying the game. Calling interference every time a hit is thrown is pussifying the game. Calling a hook every time a stick comes an inch off the ice is pussifying the game. Not wanting people to die is completely different. more

Voting Question: should I report this person to social services ?

I have a friend (lets call her M) that has been looking after her nephew for more or less 7 - 8months, the reason being baby's father is not around and mother (lets call her L) claims she can't look after him because she already has one child and has another on the way .. L has said she wants to sign baby over to M but won't do it until her third child is born - which is a while away yet - because then she would be losing baby's benefits. So the way I look at it, L is more concerned about the money she's gettin for baby than baby himself, and I have advised M to either tell L to take responsibility and raise baby herself or report L to social services, tell them the situation and have them deal with it. It seems unfair to me that M has been looking after this child for most of his life and paying for baby's stuff (clothes, food, safety equipment, nappies etc) when she has a very low income herself and her own family to provide for. Do you think its a good idea to call up social services and tell them about the situation ??I understand its not really my business but I'm really concerned, there is plenty of proof that baby has been with M for several months because she's been taking him to the doctors the whole time and she has family and friends that can vouch for her, i think she may also have messages from L asking to 'keep baby for a little longer' - except 'a little longer has turned into almost 8 months. L says she is willing to sign over baby legally AFTER her next one is born, which is around 6months away yet, and the only reason M hasn't already been to social services is because she's afraid of the backlash from L (she's quite aggressive) L apparently told her social workers that she wants to adopt baby to M but then backed out and said she is not sure whether she can give her baby up or not (which to b honest is a load of bull because she hasn't seen him for most of his life) but we all know it's because she'l stop receiving benefits for him, she annoys me to no end and is taking advantage of M more

A Seton Hall report found most day laborers who gather in Newark’s Ironbound section for landscaping and construction jobs have been cheated out of wages at one time or another. Overtime pay? Forget it. And most were never given safety equipment. Bryan Lonegan and his students at Seton Hall Law School compiled the report based on interviews in the city’s East Ward with 50 day laborers. It’s not hard to imagine the same story is repeated across the country. Wherever illegal immigrants scramble to eke out a living on the margins of society, someone’s greed is bound to take advantage of them. The report validates the approach of the Obama administration, which has stepped up investigations and penalties for companies that hire workers without legal status. Lonegan believes the solution is for the city to establish a hiring hall and enact wage-theft laws so the workers can get what is owed them. Perhaps. But that is a short-term Band-Aid for a much deeper problem. The best solution is immigration reform that allows the workers we need to enter legally, secures our borders and holds employers accountable. Our laws shouldn’t be a joke for illegal immigrants, or for the Americans who hire them. http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2010/08/easy_to_exploit_hard_work_no_p.html more

Resolved Question: thinking of becoming a saddler when i am older, views on this?

im 16 and have no idea what i want to do when i am older, i am getting my gcse results in 10 days and i am hoping for good results, (predicted grades of mostly a's with c in german and b in textiles) and i am staying on to our schools 6th form next year (its a good 6th form). my mum wants me to go in to law and i am studying law next year to see if i like it, i am also studying english & geography (my choices) and politics which was more a case of don’t have a clue what to choose as 4th option so ill do that but i have never known what i want to do when i am older (other than wanting to be a vet when i was 6 like every other little girl who likes animals) i am very interested in horses, i have 2 of my own, a youngster and my one i ride, the saddler came out to fit another horse on the yard a new saddle and he also looked at my youngster to tell us what size saddle she would need. and i was watching him measure up the other horse for a while before he looked at my pony when the other horse was being lead into the arena to be ridden and then i went home so i don't know what else he did but it got me thinking, how about being a saddler! i have really enjoyed hunting for a saddle for my pony (aka trawling through literally hundreds of adverts for saddles on ebay as well as other sites) and got one today put it on her and i instantly knew it didn't fit, in a way i was pleased as it meant more looking through saddles!!! i then went onto the job4u website which is a database of jobs and searched saddler, ( http://www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u/index.cfm?pid=55&catalogueContentID=763&render=detailedArticle ) and read though and liked what it said it said Skills and personal qualities A saddler should have: creativity and be good at working with their hands..... i have done gcse textiles and really enjoyed it and i think i did quite well. a flair for design and construction excellent eyesight and be able to pay close attention to detail..... i wear glasses but that's for things far away and i notice odd little details, eg i will notice that a tv program is a repeat from 6 years ago from tax disk on car for example good knowledge of the anatomy of horses.....i know basics but i can learn patience, as the work can be slow and laborious.......if things require time i put time into it, i hate things not being perfect the ability to use a variety of tools and equipment.... obviously i have never used saddle making equipment but im good with diy and putting together flat pack furniture with my mum! the ability to work alone without supervision or as part of a small team....i prefer working in a team but if i have confidence in something i can work alone business skills if self-employed....im not sure awareness of health and safety.... i can learn but yeah, i don't know so i want to see what people think, i know it would be hard to get into but i would try phoning local saddlers for apprenticeship, i think my parent would prefer me to go to uni and get a degree and all that but uni has never attracted me, i was talking with a friend when walking our dogs who wants to be a doctor and i said i don't know if i even want to go to uni and she was quite shocked, i don't like the idea of being in tens of thousands of pounds of debt by the time im not even 25! and reading this ( http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/you/article-1301921/Weve-gone-degree-Why-university-longer-passport-success.html ) made me even less want to go to uni wow this is long, thank you for reading this and any views or helpful suggestions would be much appreciated more

Resolved Question: What is a fare rate of pay for a sewer and drain employee?

Ok, so I understand that there are many jobless people out there that would be more than willing to take a job that would only pay them min wage. My problem is that my rate of pay and hard filthy, vile, line of work....that is working with peoples feeces and discusting things that are found every day in sinks, toilets, and sewer lines! The company I work for is great, but I know that they are banking a load more than I feel i should be getting paid. When we have no work comeing in I'm on call for no rate in pay..which also restrics me to staying home and waiting "on call" for nothing, this includes my weekends too..yes saturdays and sundays! Im tired of liveing paycheck to paycheck knowing that I deserve a reasonable raise. Ok think about this....most of our jobs are roof jobs or sewer jobs....the equipment is heavy.....weather does not make a difference...how many hours I spend on a job doesnt matter either! Well either way I would like to know peoples opinions on what they might think I should do. I don't want to look for another job I would like to stick with the job I'm at. Should I ask for a raise...I feel I deserve one. Note...think about this most construction workers, flaggers for example maintainers make 16 dollars or more an hour....just maintaining the safety of the road and drivers.....I feel that i work circles around them by the half an hour........P.S feel overworked and underpaid and taken advantage of.....IT"S A DIRTY JOB but someones got to do it!!!! But shouldn't I be paid for it TOO!!!!! more

Resolved Question: HELP , Needed from experienced BMW mechanic / Technician Please.?

Hi, I really need help with my BMW 3 series SE Automatic On an 2002 plate with 84000 miles Which has developed an unusual problem that even a BMW dealership is baffled by. 5 weeks ago I drove my car 1 mile down the road at about 30mph all lights on dash, car stopped and would not restart, No obvious problems engine not running lumpy, no loud bangs, no smoke ETC, RAC recovery towed to garage diagnostics read cam sensor unit, unit replaced, ran car for 4 days covering 350 miles no problems than drove car 1 mile down road and same again all lights on dash, engine stopped ( I was doing 40mph )engine would not restart, towed to garage but the car did restart when off loaded, diagnostics read DME Additive mixture adaptation, bank 2 control limit reached ( code 272D ) and bank 1 ( code 272C ) My mechanic called BMW as not sure of code and he was told never heard of it but we always change the oil separator and that should do it, oil separator changed car ran great for 3 days covered 250 miles and the same again engine cut out at 5 mph would not restart, towed to garage, but would restart after being off loaded, My mechanic takes car to BMW on tow truck to have BMW read diagnostics with there equipment but same codes as above come up but BMW mechanics have no idea they reckon it could be an air leak but good luck trying to find it and they are confused as the car is designed to over ride problems so that you can get the car to safety, not just stop dead as this is dangers the diagnostic equipment has not pin pointed a fault and they said that they could try this and that and the bill could run into thousands and still not cure the problem. Any advice (apart from by a new car) . more
