Resolved Question: Do you like this book plot?

hey, thanks for taking the time to read this, please at the end comment with anything you feel could be improved, any names I might need (seriously, names, surnames especially, are desperately needed), basically anything: The book is a post-apocalypic novel following main protagonist Garret Byrne. It starts with Garret in a Californian University at the end of term, he and childhood friend Chrissie Falconham are preparing to go home to Michigan for the summer. When they arrive, Garret is quickly reminded of his somewhat unhappy childhood, his mother never stopped mourning his sister, who had a grevious disability and died shortly after birth (this becomes more significant later in what I would like to become a series), and his father works for the government and is rarely at home. At this point I would quite like to destroy the world... On the way out of the house one morning, Garret overhears his parents arguing violently in the living room and hears a large "bang" just before he shuts the door, but assumes that someone has simply slammed a door. In the centre of town, he boards a bus, a nervous man with a briefcase coming to sit next to him. The man disembarks, and, after ten minutes or so, Garret realises he has forgotten his briefcase, and, when lifting it onto the seat, he hears a beeping. Then it explodes. Here the book temporarily cuts to third person, depicting a scene where Garret's tattered and torn body repairs itself, until finally, he's fully reformed, but has no memory of anything much before the explosion. He has a flashback of his house, and follows a gut feeling back their, finding the place in ruins, his mother shot dead in what had been the living room, a bullet to the head, a note accompanying her, scratched into a slab of concrete "sorry". He remembers his mother, but has no recallection of anything before (the reader hopefully havin guessed the dad shot her earlier). Garret gathers some clothes he can salvage from the wreck, then begins to wander, looking for anything that might give him an insight into his memory. He finds an old mall that escaped any major damage, and inside it two other survivors, Damon and Mark, Damon, like Garret, seems to have been killed in the explosion, and points out to Garret that the two of them have silver eyes, Damon also knows he can heal rapidly, and shows Garret he can too, by cutting him with a slice of rock. Garret decides to stay with Damon and Mark in the mall. Every day, Garret goes further and further a field, trying to find more things that might jog his memory, but finds nothing. However, one day he discovers what he thinks to be a survivor, but seems instead to be a zombie like thing, which Garret kills when it tries to attack him. When he gets back to the Mall, there are more survivors with Damon and Mark, Siobhan, Iris, Ian and Marianne, who encountered the zombies too. Garret begins remembering more and more trivial things, coming to him in dreams, but can't find anything that might tell him anything important about himself. Then Chrissie arrives with a young girl called Anya, she recognises Garret immediately, but he can't remember her at all. First tho, they have to treat Anya, who was bitten by a zombie when she tried to save Chrissie from one. Garret remembers he used to be a medical student and rushes Anya to a hospital to get equipment, they're waylaid by zombies on the way, but no one is injured and they manage to save Anya, after trying everything possible, Garret sucks the poison out of the wound, going into a feverish coma, as his healing battles with the zombie infection. When he wakes up, he's back at the Mall, Chrissie is sitting with him, and, as he wakes up, he remembers who she is. The two kiss, and Garret staggers out of the makeshift sick bay to find the Mall in chaos, a new group, Warren, Richard and Shane have arrived and Warren has taken over leadership as a selfish, survivalist dictator. Garret confronts him, and Warren shoots Garret, who heals and puts his own pistol to Warrens head, who backs down. Another new girl has also arrived, Leah, and Garret and her immediately have a sort of chemistry, but remain just friends for Chrissies sake. Tensions overflow between Garret and Warren when he finds Warren has been stealing food from the youngest of the group to feed himself, and this ends in a fight, which is interupted by one of the lookouts alerting the group that an enormous horde of zombies is approaching the Mall, whilst preparing, Damon finds Anya outside, walking towards the horde, and it turns out that she is what's been bringing the zombies to them, a venom in the zombie that attacked her acting as a beacon which allows them to find her, she wants to simply let them take her, but Damon, Garret and the others object strongly, keeping her under constant supervision. Ever the survivalist, Warren kills the Owen, who was guarding Anya, and attemI think I may have gone on too long but I need to finish so here goes: Warren kills Anyas guard and tries to kill her too, but is stopped by Garret. However, he has positioned shane away from the chaos, and he takes a shot on Anya, but Chrissie takes the bullet and dies in garret's arms. Damon and Garret beat Warren to a pulp, the others hunting down Shane and Richard. Then, once they are tied up, they prepare to fight with the zombies, but anya has managed to escape, and Garret can only watch as she is devoured, the group battle the zombies but repell them, sustaining many casualties, and the book ends with Garret reading Anyas final message, him and Leah hand in hand, interrupted by a mystery man, revealed in a possible sequel to have worked with Garrets dad, who together orchestrated the whole apocalypse. Anyway, thanks for reading, I had to rush the ending to fit it into one additional detail message but u get the general idea... more

Resolved Question: Army vs. Marines (Read Details Please)?

My question is not the usual question in which someone is wondering whether an army private would lose or win in a firefight with a marine private, but my question refers to specific categories in which one branch might be better than another. My first category is training: It is a fact that the army had eased up their training curriculum for a more attractive look to potential recruits, but is this new basic training still able to put a soldier on the field with the skill set he needs, or is he at a disadvantage in comparison to the U.S. marine? And does this potential disadvantage become insignificant because of a different way that the army deploys its troops in comparison with the corps? My Second Category is Advancement and opportunity: the army offers a wide range of opportunities, anywhere from different career paths, to advancement in rank, and then possibly special forces. do the marines have this kind of opportunity? In terms of a long military career, is the army better for someone who would like to spend more than 10 years in service? My third category is support: The army is the largest branch of the USAF and the marines are the smallest. What does that mean in terms of the technology marines receive in comparison to that of the army? In many accurate military movies like JarHead or Full Metal Jacket, marines are always complaining with lines like "we get this shit, while the army gets the good stuff." Is this true, are situations in which equipment fails more often found in marines than the army? What about support, if my army squad gets ambushed and pinned down, are my chances higher that infantry reinforcements or even calvary coming to save me if I am in the army rather than marines? My final category is medical waivers: I will not say what my medical condition is because I know I will get responses saying I won't make it in rather than the response I want. I just want to know if medical waivers are more readily available to the army or the marines. I know that waivers for my medical condition in the army are possible, esp. with high asvab scores and a doctors recommendation. If you would like to talk to me about my specific medical condition and attaining a waiver, because you yourself went through that same experience, just message me. I have the utmost respect for both branches, and if I can get a waiver for either one, I would be happy to enlist, I only ask these questions because I want to make sure I can make the most of my military career and be of the most use to that particular branch. Thank you very much. more

Resolved Question: Do I have grounds to sue the Hospital and Doctor. They knocked my crowns out and chipped one of my teeth?

While it has been my good fortune to find a good Dr. and benefit from his talent as a foot surgeon; I had the unfortunate experience of malpractice, at the hands of the accompanying anesthesiologist. On 3/23/10, I entered a outpatient Medical Clinic with the full expectation of having a second successful foot operation by my Dr. When I regained consciousness after the surgery, it seems I had been entered involuntarily and unsuccessfully into a championship prize fight with Mike Tyson and had my two front permanent crowns knocked out. I'm just kidding about the fight. The nurse standing beside my bed with a small cup containing my crowns informed me that I had supposedly bit down on the green standard oral airway she had in her other hand. I know this piece of equipment very well, you see I was trained on how to use it as a US Army Medic. I examined it and didn’t see any embedded teeth marks were my teeth would have bit down on it to have caused this type of damage, so I immediately thought that my dentist must have done a lousy job putting these crowns in. She told me they were the best and would last five years. I am Lucky enough to be a Black Jack Pit Boss and a part time SAG Actor, so my two front teeth are very important in my line of work. So,I got up from the post-op bed, told my friend to take me directly to the dentist office. When I arrived at the dental office minutes later, I gave them the cup of teeth and proceeded to read them the riot act about doing faulty dental work and told the dentist I demanded to have new crowns put in and not one red cent charged to my account. I must say to her credit, she came back brain cells on full throttle and said lets take a look and sat me in the chair, took x-rays and discovered that my tooth was now chipped and the crowns were not split in half but missing the backs, because the backs were still on the numbs in my mouth. It was explained, if you had bit down, your teeth would be split in half like a cracked sunflower seed. The reason the backs of your crowns are still stuck to the back of your teeth is because they were forcefully pushed in from the front. I thought what a detective you would make, needless to say I was man enough to stand there and apologized in front of that whole staff. They were gracious enough to give me an out and said your still under the anesthesia, but who wouldn’t be outraged. My mother( R.N., B.S.N.)was the runner-up oncology nurse of the year three years ago. At her funeral a nurse stepped up to the podium and said, you don’t know me, but I want you to know what kind of a person let alone professional , your mother was; while training me on patient care we were leaving a patients room and mom commended me on technique and then asked me what color was the patients hair. She would always say to us that healing isn't always in the medicine. I told the anesthesiologist that my grandfather died at the hands of alcoholic anesthesiologist during a simple tendon repair operation, so I would appreciate it if he would take extra care during the procedure. Obviously, he wasn’t listening. I have personally spoken to patient relations and Quality Risk Management. When I spoke to Patient Relations originally right after the operation, they relayed the facts about my teeth to Risk Management and they said ,to have me have my dentist forward the bill to her. As of March 30, 2010,Risk Management has had a change of mind and decided not to pay $2645.00 to replace my permanent crowns. Know I feel like I have been abused and gone way past the point of civility. I now want $2700.00 for the crown replacement and $4800.00 for the malpractice of chipping my tooth not to mention their corporate arrogance, insensitivity toward me the patient and covering up the Dr.'s false statement. I am going to send a compliant to the medical board of california. I want to know how to file for malpractice on him without a lawyer also. more

Resolved Question: Gasoline and generator storage?

We have an emergency generator for medical equipment in case of power failure. What should be done about the fuel in the generator? It has not been used for almost a year and a half. I remove as much fuel as I could, but there is still some in I can’t siphon out. Is it OK to leave this small amount of fuel in the generator? Do I then add new fuel to test it and run it for an hour or so? more

Voting Question: Walton Medical Laboratory?

Margaret Walton spent 10 years working in the laboratory at City Hospital. During that time, she advanced to the position of director of the laboratory and completed an MBA degree. She felt that opportunities for further advancement at the hospital were limited and was looking for a new challenge. She took a course in entrepreneurship and was fascinated by the idea of starting her own business. Walton decided that she would open an independent laboratory to provide medical tests for independent medical practices. She believed that she could help physicians reduce both their capital requirements and administrative chores, as well as provide more accurate testing. Walton began assembling information. She discovered a piece of land available near a number of independent medical practices. The land could be purchased for $100,000, and a suitable building would cost approximately $400,000. The building would have a useful life of approximately 40 years. Laboratory equipment would cost $1 million. The equipment would have a life of 7 years for tax purposes, but would actually last 10 years. Although the business could continue indefinitely, Walton wanted to do the analysis based on the assumption of a life similar to that of the laboratory equipment:10 years. In addition to fixed asses, working capital such as cash, supplies, receivables, and payables would be needed. Walton wanted to maintain a minimum cash balance of $20,000. She estimated that $100,000 of supplies would be needed initially, and accounts payable at $40,000. She estimated that the cash, supplies, receivables, and payables categories would double at the end of the first year and would not increase thereafter. Walton predicted revenue of $600,000 during the first year and $1,200,000 each year thereafter. She estimated that labor expenses, including a salary for her equal to what she was now earning, of $300,000 in the firs year and $480,000 each year thereafter. She estimated a supplies expense of $120,000 in the first year and $190,000 each year thereafter. SHe estimated overhead expense, other than depreciation, of $100,000 a year. Looking ahead, Walton estimated that the equipment would have a negligible value in 10 years, while the building would have lost one-fourth of tits value and the land 1 would still be worth $100,000. She guessed that supplies inventory could be sold for half its cost, and other working capital items would be settled at their book values. Walton turned her attention to financing. She had limited capital of her own and would need to seek outside investors. She had heard enough horror stories about problems that occurred when companies could not make payments on debts, and she wanted to avoid those troubles. Thus, she wanted to try to arrange all equity financing, and use a bank line of credit only for temporary needs. Walton decided on a plan involving ten wealthy investors, preferably senior retired physicians who would then serve on the board of directors. She would fund the project by creating eleven shares – one share free to herself as a founder’s share and one share to each of the investors. Each investor would then invest 10 percent of the capital requirements. Walton tentatively discussed the project with several senior retire physicians to see what would be required. They viewed this as an investment of moderate risk and indicated that they would want a 12 percent after tax return from an investment of this type. While several investors encourages her to continue, they were naturally unwilling to make a commitment without a proposal and a thorough financial analysis. Walton began to develop a profitability analysis and a proposal. She had to choose between the corporate tax form and an S form. She estimated that most investors would be in 28 percent tax brackets. All funds not needed internally would be paid out to the shareholders. She thought she could be ready to start by the first of the year, so assets would be considered placed in service in January. Case questions 1. Identify all cash flow on the assumption the business is taxed at a 28 percent tax rate. 2. Prepare a net present value analysis. 3. Does this investment provide a satisfactory rate of return to investors? 4. Is it fair and reasonable for Walton to get one-eleventh of the company without putting up equity capital of her own? more

Resolved Question: What do I do about my unreliable jogger's Heart Rate Monitor?

I gave up on my old HRM a while ago, and decided to buy a new one. I got on a fitness equipment review site, and selected a well reviewed model. Now this new HRM is giving me trouble also. I'm rather frustrated because I consider hitting my target heart rate to be an important part of my fitness program. I've changed the batteries. I've done what I could to clean the contacts, and the area of skin the contacts are put over. I've even used Clearasil figuring that it's skin oil and dirt cleansing qualities might help, and bought electro-conductive gel from a medical supply. I'm considering calling the manufacturers; but I'm afraid that it's not the HRM, but me that's the problem. This is the second HRM this has happened with after all. (It would work fine for the first couple months then it would get less and less reliable.) I'm afraid there's residues in my sweat that are killing electro-conductivity. Please help.Son of a... Your suggestion actually worked, TheDuck. At least as far as lately I couldn't even get the HRM to give me a heart rate at all. I put it on. It gave me a heart rate soon enough; and continued to give me a heart rate for several minutes. It stopped working just now. Not %100 encouraging. Not least of all since I still don't know what the greater problem was; and that seems to be deteriorating. I used a partially soaked Under Armor shirt, which naturally was freezing as I put it on. I'll try it tomorrow for a workout. The critical thing is getting a full workout out of the HRM without it crapping out on me. Even if that works, there's no guarrantees it will work again the next day, or a week from now.Apology accepted Ubermind. I'm afraid that's not anything not well known by users of HRMs. After all I've yet to hear of an HRM working dry. I don't think that Clearasil could cause a problem. Certainly I've only recently started using the Clearasil, and only in the hope that it would help. It should cleanse the skin of things that might interfere with electro-conductivity. It's not like I'm exposed to anything environmental. What's on my skin is what got there through my pores, residues from evaporated sweat. After that wet sweat from the exercise should be fine.Sorry TheDuck, I got ready for my workout, put on the soaked shirt, now luke warm after being put under scalding hot water, put on the chest band, and turned on the HRM. After waiting a couple minutes the watch gave up on getting a heart rate. Unless someone can offer another suggestion, I guess I'm going to have to call the manufacturers. Here's hoping I just have bad luck with receiving defective HRMs. more

Resolved Question: Given the following, is it not inevitable that Obamacare's cost will be measured in lost lives of the elderly?

Resolved Question: Why did this man have to die, because no one would give him any water?

This is an atrocity!. IF this is what we can expect from the direction our NEW health care system is going, we better repeal it quickly! Do you think this is what we're headed for in the US? Is sure seems that way, doesn't it? excerpt... A patient desperate for a drink of water had to telephone the switchboard of the hospital he was being treated in to beg to see a doctor. Derek Sauter, 60, used his mobile phone to request medical attention after his pleas for help were ignored. But when the doctor arrived he was turned away by ward nurse Caroline Lowe, who said Mr Sauter was 'over-reacting' and threatened to confiscate his phone. Family man: Derek Sauter on holiday with his wife Susan - their daughter Ruth said she was appalled at the way he was treated Eight hours later the grandfather-of-three, who was suffering with a chest infection, was dead. Rather than offering sympathy to Susan, Mr Sauter's wife of 41 years, Miss Lowe later told her that he could have been prosecuted for harassing the doctor on call. Yesterday his daughter, Ruth Sauter, 42, said she was appalled at the way her father, a former administrator for the Healthcare Commission, the former NHS watchdog, had been let down by the NHS. Sacked: Caroline Lowe, the ward nurse, turned the doctor away who came to see Mr Sauter 'My father went into hospital for a routine chest infection, but never came out,' said Miss Sauter, of Thurrock, Essex. 'His condition was not life threatening and the nurses had specific instructions to keep close tabs on him. 'But their appalling lack of care, and cruel behaviour killed my father. He should not have died that weekend; it was not his time. 'It's so much worse knowing that he died alone, thirsty and scared on that ward.' Mr Sauter was admitted to Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, in Kent, at 9am on June 27 2008. He was admitted to a ward and given intravenous antibiotics and oxygen, but at 8.30pm he telephoned Mrs Sauter, a midwife, in distress claiming nurses were refusing to give him any water because he had accidentally knocked over the first cup he had been given. A note scrawled by Mr Sauter and discovered by his family after his death said: 'Asked for a jug of water at 6pm and again at 8.30, told to wait for handover. Said I knocked cup of water on floor.' In another note Mr Sauter said he was 'getting depressed'. Some time between 9.30pm and 11.30pm Mr Sauter was moved to a side room where there was no monitoring equipment and, although he was supposed to be checked every four hours, no observations on his condition were made. At 11.35pm Mr Sauter, who had still not had any fluids, made his desperate call to the switchboard. The following morning, at 6.51am, a distressed Mr Sauter telephoned his wife to ask her to come back to the hospital. But he died of pneumonia brought on by the chest infection less than half an hour later - before Mrs Sauter, 60, arrived. Resolved Question: Heavy Indian Weaponry Seized: Another Proof Of Indian Involvement In Destabilization Of Pakistan?

The Government of Pakistan has found huge cache of Indian arms, Medicines and other propaganda material in the hideouts of terrorists in South Waziristan. The evidence has been documented and proofs handed over to Foreign Office to be presented at relevant forums. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has found concrete evidence of India’s involvement in militancy in South Waziristan and decided to take up the matter with New Delhi. This was disclosed by Information Minster Qamar Zaman Kaira and military spokesman Major-General Athar Abbas at a press briefing on the progress of operation Rah-e-Nijat here on Monday. It was the first time in recent times that Pakistan had pointed fingers at India from a forum having representation of political and military leadership. Mr Kaira said although it had been decided to raise the issue with India, Pakistan would not deviate from the peace process. Gen Abbas said a huge quantity of Indian arms and ammunition, literature, medical equipment and medicines had been recovered from Sherawangi area, near Kaniguram. He said the Foreign Office had been informed and the matter would be taken up with the Indian authorities through diplomatic channels. India and Afghan Government has also been blamed for sponsoring the Baloch terrorists hiding in Afghanistan and using it as a safe base to launch attacks inside Afghanistan. The very fact that Americans are very much aware of these concerns of Pakistan but have preferred to stay mum shows that they are using it as a bargaining chip against Pakistan. That bring me to a conclusion that Americans are not even sincere in their own stated objectves for the region. Destabilizing Pakistan means destabilizing the whole region. If Pakistan military decided to take off its hands from the War on Terror, the Talibans will not only take over Afghanistan but will also set their eyes on Indian in general and Kashmir in particular. Even the Chechen conflict will reemerge and the problems in Central Asian states will resurface. The Americans and Indians should realize that Pakistan is the last buffer in the fight against terrorists operating in the region. Indians are only interested in their own strategic gains but it is the duty of Americans and NATO forces to align their strategic goals and keep Indian activities in check in Afghanistan before they find themselves stuck deep in a proxy war between India and Pakistan waged on the soil of Afghanistan. That would be a disaster for all the important players so its time we mend our ways before it gets too late. By Pro-Pakistan more

Resolved Question: Is Durbin contradicting himself about finishing health care and focusing on jobs in 2010?

Durbin says that Christmas break will be short to finish Health Care and move on to creating jobs. Forcing employers to increase costs by forcing coverage = lost jobs. New Taxes on manufacturers of medical equipment = higher cost and lost jobs New taxes on Cadillac plans = higher cost and lost jobs More lost jobs = more government spending which means higher taxes = more lost jobs Insurance companies price at cost plus. There are no savings here. Only tax increases that Congress calls savings. The threat of a trigger is ridiculous. Congress will use that to bilk millions more in contributions to themselves, but never kill the golden goose. Just like tort reform. more

Resolved Question: Did you know the new healthcare plan by the Finance Committee taxes device manufacturers $4 billion?

Better yet, do you know the reason why? Well it's pretty sneaky, really! Device manufactures make such thinks as EKG's, CAT Scanners, Lab Test Equipment, every surgical instrument ever made, x-ray, etc. And guess who pays for these devices? The patient. Each patient is charged a use fee based on all the devices in the room with the exception of major devices called "capital equipment." Those are billed in the service, such as MRI, CAT scanner, lab test, etc. And who are the patients? 80% are the already insured. IOW, 80% of the patients are going to pay for the taxes on the Device Manufacturers, which will help cover the uninsured that will be covered on the government plan. So you might ask yourself, "Why don't they just tax us instead?" Answer: "You would then know." They don't want you to know. This way, it is almost hidden and they can say they are not taxing you, but taxing those great big rich medical companies. The problem here, unlike the Pharmaceutical companies, most of the best Device Manufacturers are based right here in the USA. No we don't import devices from China or Japan yet, as we are the best at making these things... next best is the UK. Not China, not Japan, not India... only the USA. Believe me, that pacemaker inside your chest was most likely made by Medtronic (Minneapolis, MN), the world leader... ditto that stent that allowed you to avoid open heart surgery... the same products 120 other countries use. So what will our companies do that are taxed so much? Clearly they will sell and concentrate their efforts at locations that will make them the most money... IOW, outside the USA. And with each device, it is governed just like a drug so it goes through FDA testing. These are called "Trials." Many of our schools, doctors, and teaching hospitals are given grants by the device manufacturers to do these trials. Once concentrated in other countries, the dollars will go there and to their medical institutions. Isn't it a shame that a "Finance Committee" would screw us instead of control our/their finances. Folks, it is nothing more than a tax and will drive one of the few high technology companies that are still viable here in the USA into other countries. Who the heck is running the show here anyway?========== No mmm_soylentgreen... this is the real deal. Even a number of democrats are against this. Of course some of these are in states that employ a number of device manufacturing employees. I think what you'll see is a big concern about making it hard for manufacturing companies to compete, but the truth is that it's a sham to find some way to pay for this plan without most people knowing where it is coming from. Also understand that Device Manufacturers do not have the lobby that the Drug manufacturers do.========== http://www.medicaldevices.org/public/ more

Resolved Question: Why does God hate Maggy?

I'm going to tell you a true story about my young Cousin, Maggy. 10 years ago, Maggy was born in (Real names of locations hidden for privacy reasons) Freeman Medical Center. Her parents, orthodox Catholics, were told their beloved 4-hour old Maggy has breathing problems. They asked God on their knees that Maggy's problem would be solved and not be anything serious. The next day, they get to see Maggy again. Their 32 hour Daughter apparently has a permanent and rare lung disease and will need to breathe with special equipment for the rest of her life. After a hard year of a baby with a tube down her throat, the Doctor told them there is new technology that will allow the baby to only take several breaths from a simple machine once an hour for the rest of her life. The machine made things easier for a year. A few years passed. It was her 5th birthday and her cake had just been served. Everyone finished singing Happy Birthday and told her to blow out the 5 sparkly candles. A would-be happy day went wrong when instead of blowing a vortex of air at the small fires on each candle, Maggy coughed out little droplets of blood. Instead of having some nice moist cake, she had syringes stuck in her arm at the Emergency room as the doctors tried to battle the blood vessel that was popped by a brand-new tumor in her neck. As family from her parents to her uncles to me, her cousin (Also a catholic at the time) prayed in the waiting room while she was in surgery for God to let this poor girl live a happy life. We didn't do anything wrong. We weren't the happiest family on earth either. We all had our issues. We were all catholic except for a single Presbyterian whom we accepted but were always a little suspicious of. Maggy's favorite place was Church. She loved everything about it. Later that day, the doctor finally came out. We had been praying to God for 3 hours that it would be fine. Instead, the Doctor only said 7 words before a 1-minute delay of continuing his sentence. "I'm Sorry, we did everything we could". This is the end of Maggy's story. She lived a sad life of only 5 years. Sure, she liked church, but she couldn't attend the sermon because she had to stop. She liked to play, though. Her breathing troubles kept her from running, swimming or doing other exhausting activites, but she was able to use the slide and play with dolls. Why does God hate Maggy, but love that Pedophile who got away with "Self Defense" after killing two children and paying off a couple judges in Texas? more

Resolved Question: Honest nonpartisan question on healthcare reform...?

I know that there are several bills out there on healthcare, all of which have good points and bad points (from what I hear). I'm more of a foreign policy buff, but I figured I would start inching my way into the debate here. I downloaded and have been reading HR 3200, which is the bill that Fox News is out to kill (for whatever reason). So when I started reading it, I thought I would find some offensive stuff (I'm more of a financial conservative), but I have found nothing yet (it's like 1,000 pages, so I haven't read the whole thing yet) that has offended me or made me think for one minute that I wouldn't like the reforms brought about by this bill. Some key points I found in the bill itself (these are my notes): * Protects rights to keep currently held health insurance policies * Cannot discriminate based on pre-existing conditions * Limits the allowed methods of varying premiums * Prohibits discrimination in benefits * Requires parity in mental health and substance abuse disorder benefits * Ensures adequacy of provider networks * Mandates minimum coverage that includes hospitalization, outpatient hospital and clinic services (including ER visits), private practitioner services (regular doctor visits), supplies necessary for treatment, prescription drugs, rehab, mental health and substance abuse disorder services, preventive services, maternity care, well baby and well child care (oral, health, vision, and hearing services, equipment, and supplies for children under the age of 21) * Requires fair marketing practices by health insurers (uniform marketing standards) * Requires fair grievance and appeals mechanisms * Requires information transparency and accurate, timely plan disclosure using plain language * Mandates timely payment of claims by insurance companies * Creates a Health Insurance Exchange with Public Health Insurance option * Prohibits discrimination in healthcare not offered through exchange * Offers protections to whistleblowers * In order to ensure value and lower premiums, all group and individual coverage must meet a specified medical loss ratio * Ends health insurance rescission abuse, which prevents companies from abusing protections created to prevent fraud (companies unreasonably end coverage based on these protections) * Creates the opportunity for independent, external, third-party review in cases of rescission * Creates reinsurance program for retirees * Mandates affordability premium credits for individuals * “No federal payment for undocumented aliens.” * Notes that it is an individual’s responsibility to obtain healthcare * Outlines employer responsibilities should an employee choose to offer health insurance to its employees These are just a few of the more important points I have found thus far. From the figures I've heard, our government wastes more than $4 trillion on healthcare each year anyway, and that pretty much ANY new program would be less expensive (though a cost-neutral plan would be preferred to save taxpayer dollars). From what I've seen, any NEW bill would be better than the system we have now (though I don't think I would support universal healthcare and drastic changes to the health delivery system). Please give me YOUR OPINIONS on this issue, and please do not recite Fox News, MSNBC, or any other partisan hacks. If I want their opinions I could waste my time by watching their shows.Sorry about the wall of text, lol. hotnwell... Will definitely put something up if I find the death panels! lol ObamaCar... if you didn't notice the quotes... that is a direct quote from the bill... that's how i can say that.I see and hear everyday talk about death panels, socialized medicine, etc. attacks against Obama. The bill Obama supports and all the bills I've seen so far are not Universal Healthcare, so what is the socialization argument based on? It is sad that these scare tactics DO work on the American people, and it is even worse that you can easily view the bills yourself but everyone is too lazy. more

Resolved Question: QUESTION FOR NURSES: would nursing be suited for me or completely wrong? (see below)?

.. . ..I have lots of questions, only read if you have time: here goes: My story is I am 44 and have 3 kids, one going into college, one in high school and a 9 year old boy. I graduated with a 4 year degree in Business 23 years ago, Looonggg time ago I know! I took my daughter to have a surgery at the hospital and I just loved how the nurses took good care of her and almost treated her like their daughter, they put IVS in and checked her vitals and lots of paperwork from what I could tell. I thought, hey I might enjoy this career too, on the up side for me is that people always tell me that I'm very kind to those in need, but on the down side I'm not good in science and I don't know how much bloodiness and grossness I'd have to go through on a daily basis and if honestly that might steer me away from it. I don't mind small amounts of blood, vomit, or poop, (being a mom I'm used to all that) but super gross things like arms being cut off in movies might make me pass out in real life, don't know though since I've never even seen a bad car accident victim. I know I"m great at making people feel comfortable though and I'm very caring so in that way I think I'd be an asset to nursing. Again I think I could do IVS and check wounds, etc. but I know I couldn't work in an emergency room so I don't know if this should stop me from nursing. With all this in mind, how many years would it take? If our local community college offers an ASN degree and I completed it, would I then be a nurse with a BSN degree since I already had four years when I was younger, or would I only have the ASN degree and what would the difference be when I graduated? Also I am 44 years old now, is it somewhat unrealistic that I could compete with the younger woman for jobs when I graduated or would employers sort of look down on me since I might not be as physically agile as the younger new graduates? I've never been good at science courses like Chemistry, in fact at my high school we never even had to take Chemistry just Biology so I've never even taken it (!) I'm a good student though and graduated with my college degree Magna Cum Laude but that doesn't guarantee I could do what you guys do, would Chemistry be a large part of being a nurse in the real world though, or would you think if I could just get a C in the class I could still function as a nurse? Could I still be a good nurse if I basically just like to help people but I'm not that mechanically inclined in terms of the equipment you operate and I'm not good in science, or would you say definitely I shouldn't look at that career just because I like to help others. Again,I think I'd be able to handle some of the gross stuff but to be honest I don't think I could handle seeing a burn victim come into the emergency room or a open heart surgery, so would that mean no way be a nurse. Or might you say, there are plenty of nurses who just work in doctor's offices or on the hospital floors that aren't dealing with the worst of the worst cases and I could still be valuable and enjoy the job? Also are there part time jobs or full time evening jobs readily available for new graduates that might work even though I like to drop my son at school at 7 30 and pick him up at 2 30? What other jobs in the medical field could I look into that are really in demand and require only 6 months of school to a year instead of 2 more years? I thought about radiology technician but again I'm not that scientific and don't know if I can visualize things in the xrays. Nursing seems right in a lot of ways but at my age I just don't know if I want to go to school for another 2 full years, so if my downfalls seem too much for the career than it's fine to be honest with me and say I'd probably dislike nursing school completely, but if you think there is still a place for me in nursing somewhere than I'd like to know what area you are thinking of? Thanks for any input. more

Resolved Question: would you play this video game?

Would you play this video game? now before you read this, i did not write this but i did have a similar idea to the person who wrote this. i copied this description from a website call game discovery. so all the credit goes to James Owens. this game is not in devolopment but if you want to see it on the market join my facebook group. called "People who want to play a police RPG." Sim Police "There is a lot of demand for this kind of game, especially among players of the popular Police Quest series and SWAT 3. You're a police officer in a large metropolitan city (a SimCity would be nice). You start out as a rookie (there can be a short training period or rookie school at the beginning to familiarize you with the way the game is played). This game would be played much like SimCopter and Police Quest. The car would be driven like Need For Speed or Streets of SimCity. You patrol your beat at your own leisure and answer game-generated calls for service (armed robberies, speeding vehicles, riots, wrecks, medical emergencies, traffic jams, fights, drunk drivers, burglar alarms, shootings, fires, etc). There is a map on your car console, that displays an icon showing you where the call is. You have several AI partners on the streets with you. You can call them by radio for backup, also you can hear what they are doing and back them up. You can also notify dispatch for fire and ambulance help. You can also come across speeders, drunks, etc, at random. Whether they pull over and how long it takes them to pull over is up to the computer AI. You may have to chase them. You have a good bit of equipment to use: Pistol Shotgun (stored in trunk of car) Baton Pepper Spray Walkie Flares Ticket book Handcuffs Flashlight You also have a choice of several cars to drive such as marked and unmarked Crown Vics and Camaros. Promotions and paychecks are based on points, and money can be used in convenience stores, coffee shops, and to buy new equipment (or maybe to pay informants) etc. You car also has the basic equipment of a police cruiser. Police radio, spotlight, radar, lights and siren (the siren should have several tones, adjustable by the player, and the lightbar and siren should be on separate switches, this a serious flaw in Need For Speed and other games). You can interact with people, and you can walk inside building to do things (eat, do paperwork, answer calls, etc.). There is a central police station, a jail, hospitals, fire stations, bars, gas stations, and a small substation for you and your partners to hang out. There are "big city" areas as well as suburban areas and "bad" neighborhoods." writes James Ownes Sim Police Video Game Name James Owens more

Resolved Question: is she a snob stupid or just insensitive?

I cannot figure out if a certain member of my community college class is a snob who regards most of the rest of the class as her social inferiors or a bit stupid or just grossly insensitive bordering on a sociopathic condition? Examples of her behaviour: Refers to rest of class including women who are much older as "girls" Avoids speaking to anyone she doesnt regard as "nice" and curiously of the few people she does speak to they're in higher social economic brackets ... Also avoids talking to any other students with disabilities or medical problems Has a car and has never offered to help people with no cars to take heavy stuff home and YET complains about those students leaving things in storage until they can arrange to take them home. Never offers to share tools during pracs or pass over cleaning equipment Rarely brings food or cake to class morning teas Babbles on about her house she owns two and rents one out and her upcoming skiing trip and her domestic problems which are mostly very minor and rarely asks about anyone else's. Treats the one person in the class with a postgraduate degree who's not the teacher as if she's a mental health case cos that that person who has a degree in classics and philosophy confronted her about her seeming lack of empathy and ethics. Refused to help a poorer disabled student by passing on PR for the online business they're trying to start out and encouraged other people to do the same. Caused an asthmatic attack in another student by using the wrong kind of turps in class and not going the windows and her response to someone saying ...next time open the windows FIRST! was to a) use previous excuse ... her ? NEW AGE belief you cant help other people with their problems b) put mpc player earpods in and start listening to music so she doesnt have to see or hear the other student trying to exhale the turps fumes and stop their bronchial spasms c) doesnt even say something like ... I'm sorry I forgot you have allergies ... Complained about a student being LOUD who has industrial deafness and a mild speech handicap and even after being told never apologised and apparently is still presuming that person is just neurotic or something. There is more but those are the worst examples. What to do? more

Resolved Question: Vote for Breastfeeding Promotion Act?

Ok since I need to ask a question to make this legit - here is my question - will you vote? Tough economic times may be making it harder for women to breastfeed? Yes! According to a recent ABC news story, one of the fall-outs from the recession is that some new mothers are feeling forced to take shorter maternity leaves due to concerns about finances and job stability. Unfortunately, women who have to cut their maternity leave short often can't continue to breastfeed their infants because many workplaces don't adequately support breastfeeding.2 That's a big problem when you consider that 56% of women with infants are now the in the labor force--we need common-sense workplace policies to make sure that moms who want to breastfeed can. Act now for nursing moms by urging your Member of Congress to support the Breastfeeding Promotion Act: Too many women are unable to breastfeed for the 6 months recommended by doctors and experts. This is often due to the fact that many workplace structures make this nearly impossible. While 74% of U.S. women breastfeed their infants at birth, only 12% are exclusively breastfeeding at six months as recommended by every major national and international medical authority.4 On average, rates of breastfeeding drop even lower for young and low-income mothers.5 Some mothers choose to stop breastfeeding but others don't have a choice. Many women who work outside the home face significant barriers or outright discrimination in their efforts to breastfeed. Even well-intentioned employers may be unaware about how to accommodate nursing moms, leaving women using sheets to cover up in cubicles, cramming into bathroom stalls with breast pumps, or even hiding out in dingy supply rooms just to pump breast milk for their babies. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) recently introduced the Breastfeeding Promotion Act to support employers and nursing moms by: * Providing tax incentives for businesses that establish private lactation areas in the workplace; * Requiring employers to make reasonable efforts to provide appropriate space and break time for mothers to express milk; * Protecting breastfeeding women from being fired or discriminated against in the workplace; and * Allowing families to deduct the cost of breastfeeding equipment on their taxes, as is the case with other common medical expenses.6 Studies show that breastfeeding is good for babies, mothers and employers! Breastfed babies have a lower risk of infection, obesity, diabetes, and other health problems. This not only reduces a family's healthcare costs (and anguish), it also reduces costs (and workplace interruptions) for employers, given that mothers and fathers with healthier babies have to leave work less often to care them. 7 Voice your support for the Breastfeeding Promotion Act today: This link is easy - just click and answer a couple of questions. Answer back when you completed it and pass on to all your friends and family. Also you can handwrite a letter. http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/momsrising/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=13731 more

Resolved Question: please read my story rate 1-10 dont have nothing nice to say dont comment it at all, you are not the best!!!!?

I am on my way to Seattle Washington. Although I well miss my friends and family, mother says it is for the best. Mom is driving, I just hope we make it home in one piece. Mom just got fired for being late at a conference, were loosing money by the hour. So were moving back in my home town near the local hospital I was born in, on November 3, 1995. That way mom is granted a full time job to support my sister Sophia and me. I have no doubts for my mom, after all she is a great single parent and she is for sure a terrific care taker. I don’t know why mom likes being in a white room with medical equipment and a patient eager for medical care. Mom prefers to be in a crowded room with doctors with masks on performing surgery. My sister Sophia is three. Mom really takes her under her wing 24 hours a day. She basically get what she wants, when she wants. She is very plump with the most brilliant amber eyes, and the simplest blond hair that you can find on a store bought Barbie doll. Mom use to joke around and say she almost named her Barbie for her hair. A couple of years back just before my dear father passed on he left my mother a red mustang 2006. She loves that vehicle like she gave birth to it. We just passed a highway sign that reads “Montana 4 miles off enter section”. Mom rolls her eyes, “If it was not for my career we would be at home in a telephone book searching for a job Lauran”. I sign… “yea well you have to be a burse don’t you”. mom rolls her eyes, and rolls down the windows. When the fresh Montana air hit my face I almost collapsed. We strolled my a dumpster, that did not at all help the fragrant. The sky was a grayish chalk color to it, very dull and a unsafe warning to bad weather. A couple birds flew here, and there the whole site seemed familiar, I felt like a free sprit went right through my chest. I grew a free mind and noticed a change in the atmosphere, maybe today was a start of something new, maybe my whole life would turn and twist and squeeze the dull days I once had. Maybe its time my life starts a new chapter. “Oh.. Its 6:43pm Lauren you hungry by any chance” my mother grins with a thoughtful worried look in her dark green eyes. Although my stomach twisted and bounced all around, I have not yet hunger pains. “Um.. No mom. But I think we should all rest and maybe Sophia is hungry to, besides there is a bad storm coming I can just feel it in my veins”. “Is Sophia asleep” mother calls. I turn in my set to view Sophia’s spot in the back third row. She is dead asleep, I really love my sister when she is asleep. “yep” I bellowed. As I have deep thoughts running in and out of my head, I noticed a dark cloud appearing out of the right window toward the back of the car. Silence Brooke loose in the family car by a roaring sound coming from the angry sky. “Oh lord a bad storm I guess we should find shelter” my mom says. Out of no were a dangerous hail storm approaches from the north, my sister wakes up screaming and yelling saying “I want to go home mama”. we both show no sign of paying our attention to the whiner in the car. We were both worried that a bad hurricane might appear out of no where. The next exit was 2 miles away to the next exit accordingly to the sign. The car sped up, I sincerely rolled up the windows for my moms sake of worrying about something else than the road. The sky grew darker, all birds and any sign of life brushed through the trees, the sun set early or was is the black clouds blocking its hot beaming rays? Mom pasted me my sisters bottle and I drove her fast to sleep, she is the reason my mom gets in car crashes in stressing moments much like this. It felt like a nightmare, I fell curious where the beautiful sun shone, and were the white clouds, and the birds chirped in the wind as we drove by. We were new to this state so we have no idea what weather conditions it must be today. But, are only clues are that nature is deserted and any signs of life has left, no cars, no singing birds, no sun, just a big black sky. We reached to a near by town and are looking for some hotels to stay the night in. as I look out my car door window, rain pours down heavily. It looks like today’s weather forecast was prescribed as “raining cats and dogs”.i did not write yellped and no your lame you freako path!!!!!!!! more

Resolved Question: Is this fair:? Is this prejudice:...........................?

Is the Air Force Clinic prejudice against the brave valiant grunts at the main Albuquerque Veterans Hospitals. To whom it may concern:. The receptionist gave me entrance, after checking my Veterans ID, to Air Force Clinic, at the main Albuquerque Veterans Hospital, where I had a cup of coffee at a nice snack bar, located in the large 2 story lobby decorated with New Mexico Art Deco. It was the waiting area of the Air Force Clinic. It was comfortable, peaceful and relaxed. It had a certain charm to it. I found out later that this country club styled exclusive area was off limits to the veterans and a bum like me, that go to the main hospital. Lounging on the plush comfortable furniture were Air Force retired Officers, some with their families, talking laughing and reading. I have never seen an officer, and I know what they look like out of uniform, in any of the waiting areas of the main hospital They are neatly dress in fashionable expensive shirts and slacks; no jeans or T-shirts with a military slogan on them or carrying pack backs. No beards. This is what these prejudice people don't want to see in their nice lobby. Drinking coffee and sitting on the plush furniture>. On the way out the receptioness told not to come back again, that she had let me this one time in because she wanted to be nice. but next time she wouldn't let me in. The Air Force Clinic patients can go to the Veterans snack bar and restaurant any time they want to. Here are my suspicions: If you have information about my suspicions please sent. I am going to make this an issue. I am going to try and get the newspapers interested. They Air Force use the medical equipment and are probably receive special attention from the VA Doctors and staff. These people can go to the main hospital at anytime without showing their identification card. When they go they go through a special entrance and do not mingle with the grunts. I have never seen a retired officer out patient in any of the waiting rooms. I suspect that they come from the Air Force Clinic and use the back entrance where they go directly to their appointment with the doctor in special rooms. This is prejudice. If you have any information concerning this matter. Please answer. more

Resolved Question: How would legalizing Medical Cannabis under properly regulated terms not help patients and reduce health cost?

Law Enforcement Organizations oppose medical cannabis for non-medical reasons. I think it is because LEO's are looking at a 60%(attributed % of Drug Cartel Pot biz) drop in profit if Cannabis is legalized and that is some real money. They would have to go to the taxpayers (instead of Civil Asset Forfeiture thefts) for all that new fancy equipment they use to terrorize and kill people in their homes in the name of the Drug War. They know that once Medical Cannabis is Re-established in the Pharmacopoeia that full legalization and rational regulation are not far behind. What will we do with all those for profit prisons? I have a doctor at one of the most prominent medical centers in the country who is considering me for medical cannabis. If Cannabis is reintegrated into the pharmacopoeia it will also affect Drug company profits as people grow their own medicine. If Hemp is reintroduced industrially it will affect the timber industry and its dependents. A simple act will change so muchRanger, Have you lived there? Treatment of addiction in the Netherlands where marijuana is not yet legal (but integrated into medical community and insurance system) is focused on hard drug addiction. Amsterdam's hotels are booked solid every weekend all year long! Taxation helps balance the budget contributes positively to the community at large. Show me your stats please I would love to see themI have been doing a lot of research on this subject as part of my psych degree if anyone wants links posted here. There is a lot of good science about this. I do not consider cannabis a panacea and it like any medicine has its contraindications. more

Resolved Question: Wouldn't half a million dollars make a good down payment on a large piece of equipment such as a CT scanner?

http://www.reliefweb.int/rw/rwb.nsf/db900SID/ASAZ-7QWH6Q?OpenDocument I wonder if these two meetings are working in conjunction or cross purposes http://www.colombopage.com/archive_09/April8173346CH.html http://www.reliefweb.int/rw/rwb.nsf/db900SID/ASAZ-7QWH6Q?OpenDocument I also understand that the German Red Cross has provided converted containers that are to function as "mobile medical care" facilities - these units, to be mobile, would need to be pulled by semi and to my understanding these "mobile facilities" have yet to be equipped. A 60 bed operational hospital holds much more value than a expansion project and providing a much needed piece of equipment that would readily allow it to be a regional specialized facility holds much more value than increasing bed space. The operational theatre and bloodbank can readily be built with domestic funds but again equiping the the theatre and bloodbank is where the most value is gained by the most people. Has an updated list been created of essential items needed to create regional, specialized medical facilities? "4 new wards will be constructed and X ray machines laboratory equipment furniture, beds will be provided. An operation theatre and blood bank will also be built." When you write of "laboratory equipment furniture" are you refering to actual lab equipment and the furniture used to house and operate it or are you referring to just the piece of furniture. For there is a distinct difference between a phlebatomy chair and a blood screening machine. This press release is very confusing. When raising funds for aid or signing MOU's it may be very helpful to provide a detailed list of items including reference #s of what is proposed to be provided. GATES/GOTHY more

Resolved Question: why doesn't the stimulus package include funds for national defense?

it is the constitutional role of federal government to do 2 things: defend our country and defend our borders. i want to know what reason there is for not including moneys for national defense in this "stimulus" package that to me is simply a means to give the federal government more control over my life. did president obama, like many others even on this forum, forget 9/11? did anyone here see osama bin laden's last televised speech in which he said that his armies of the taliban and al quaeda plan even worse vicious attacks on our soil, and soon? why don't we just bring our troops home from iraq to be given jobs guarding our borders? but there is NO MONEY allotted in this stimulus package for national defense! nada. nothing. there is no money in it for improving all the veteran's hospitals either. rather, there is provision for a new governmental bureaucracy that will oversee the care that doctors give to their patients, supposedly to prevent duplication of medical tests! i am old enough to tell one doctor to look at the results of my family doctor's blood tests or any other tests! i do not need my medical records, nor do i want them, kept in electronic form within a federal database!!! that will be just the beginning of national health care, which in turn will go to Big Brother is Watching Me, and i do not want that. do you? anyhow, if there's pork on this bill, which 61 senators voted in (part one of two parts) as a win for it, why is there no pork for our military? most of our military equipment now used in the middle east is scheduled to be scrapped. we are giving humvies to the iraqians. should we be a country that is open to being attacked? again? do you know that president obama is behind a vast number of palestian refugees coming into this country, not required to work for a living, but who will be supported by we, the taxpayers? why should we support any immigration at such a crucial time in our history, much less PALESTIANS, who hate us and wish to destroy us? do you recall that citizen obama had talked about building up an internal "military force" WITHIN our country? why is that? do the democrats, who will spend your grandchildren's grandchildren's money to get this stimulus package passed by majority vote (all it needs now is the part II vote) agree that we have no need to support and to rebuild our national defense? why? if no military spending is done in this "stimulus," a shame to us via our having voted in congressmen that work against our very lifeblood, the well being of our children and their children just to meet this president obama so-called emergency spending plan!!! who says that there will be no attack on our soil again? want to know what? mayor daley, the mayor of chicago, the dirtiest political city in the country, told president obama, in public, recently, that our country should do as he does, namely, to sell off our infrastructure to raise money (but with daley, it's all about bringing in the 2016 olympics...2016 is a long time away)! mayor daley sold off 4 elements of future dollars for our city already, and there is one that really worries me, since it has a lot to do with the defense of millions of people, of citizens. mayor daley sold off a tollroad called the chicago skyway, he sold off the parking meters, he sold off the parking garages, and he rented out midway airport! that's the thing that worries me. if terrorists get employed now at midway, how easy it would be to poison lake michigan, which supplies fresh water to millions and millions of people all around it! since there is no money allocated for national defense in this wild idea brainchild of president obama, then what will we do if we are attacked again? there are all kinds of ways we can be attacked, and i deliberately refuse to write about the many that i have thought about because who knows who will read my words? so, once this democratic senate and its traitorous republican senators that went over to the left vote in stage 2 of the stimulus bill, all of it will be the law. and in that law, not only is there no money to replace necessary military equipment, but nothing to give veterans the medical care that they need--and aren't they worth it? AND in that law, you and i will not get proper medical treatment if the new bureaucrats of this "Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research," which is a fancy name that is, in essence, Doublespeak (Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell), who we will pay the salaries to as they sit around having meetings in their cushy leather executive chairs two days out of a five day work week (yes, most congressmen only work 1.5 days a week and then they get the summer off too, paid, of course, with our tax dollars that do NOT bury the deficit) deciding how the doctors should work: http://www.hudson.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=publication_details&id=6010 but which of tEDIT: there is more to this question, i just cannot insert it now--i guess there is some crawler that counts out the characters, but how can you pose your question if you can't argue it?IAGAIN: but which of them will be medical or osteopathic doctors able to make health care decisions? i will lay my bet right now that all of them will be politicians, and, if a few of them are doctors (not of the fine ilk of ron paul, MD, the best and most caring, genuine house representative that we have), they will be picked only for their politics. and they will not allocate money from this stimulus package to rebuild our military, will they? we are facing highway robbery if this bill becomes the law. here's an article about that: http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/02/10/tantaros_stimulus_republicans/ we don't need additional DEBT--we need for those that have money to SPEND IT on rebuilding our country to the shining glory that we had in the 1950s, and we need to mandate that most of our work is done right here in the good ole US of A and not outsourced so that we cannot get a good job! and we need to BUY AMERICAN in order to make our companies build ......our work is done right here in the good ole US of A and not outsourced so that we cannot get a good job! and we need to BUY AMERICAN in order to make our companies build factories again! so what we really need are tax cuts. so i hope you get a lot of letters, phone calls, emails, faxes, and telegrams out to these dunderheads that suck from you and me every term telling them that if they vote this bill into law, you will not vote for them, but that instead, maybe, you and your buddies will drag them out of their cushy chairs, and down the stairs from their offices, to place their dummy heads and money lending hands into a stock, like the pilgrims built, so that the citizens, namely, us, we, the people, can pass buckets of ice cold water, one to the next, to douse them with so that they WAKE UP and start to truly represent us. what do you say to all of this? why do you say it? i like answers that are very thorough and well thought out. i don't like one liners......i don't like one liners. you can leave one, but that certainly will not put you into the running for best answer. i will know by how fast you answer this question whether you even opened up the link provided to you above. thank you for your answers, even if you oppose me--that is all right with me and you will not get a thumbs down from me if you can show me how you oppose me and why. AND YES! i am a writer and do a number of other licensed trades, and i TOUCH TYPE and i even take SHORTHAND, which pulled me through 2 universities. and YES! i like to explain my argument. so, if you wish to tell me i make my questions too long, that's all right. but you might miss the drift if you do not read it all. good luck!OH! I FORGOT! i do not know this, do you? what amount of money will go to GIs that return home from iraq, i.e., the GI bill. does it still exist? will it be enough for each vet to get a good enough paying job to buy one of those houses out there with the foreclosure signs on them? will they get top spot for job placement and training and to go to school? will employers be encouraged via tax cuts to hire them? and btw: isn't it possible that saddam hussain sold the WMD to iran and others or had them buried in the sand? yeah, we did spend too much in iraq, but those possibilities exist. AND: more and more al quaeda troops are born every day: muslims are now 1/4 of the world population. and no, they do not have a history of peace and love towards anyone not of their faith. more

Resolved Question: army invading hospitals? what do you think of this?

if i was lying in a hospital bed and the doctor started to speak about bomming the cancer and ripping out the enemy of the patiant i would be scared. what do you think and what are your toughts on this artic in the times??? http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/health/2009/0113/1231738219539.html if you cant access it ive copy and pasted it. arnt i a nace man LOL so any way what are your toughts??? MEDICAL MATTERS: Do terms like ‘killer cells’ and ‘vaccine shots’ actually help the patient? asks MUIRIS HOUSTON TONY GREGORY, the long-serving Dublin independent TD, has rightly been the subject of many news reports and obituaries marking his passing. But I wonder how comfortable he would have been with some of the military language used to describe his experience of cancer? “Gregory loses long battle with cancer” and “he fought bravely till the end” are the sort of cliched phrases that rolled off the presses and criss- crossed the airways when the TD died after a long illness. Gregory will be best remembered for his pioneering work against substance abuse in deprived areas of our capital. In a tribute, the North Inner City Local Drugs Task Force’s Joe Barry said: “Tony Gregory led the way in relation to our country’s efforts to tackle drug misuse and has proved an inspiration to all working to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities most seriously affected by drugs.” What makes this tribute stand out is the lack of military language used to describe Gregory’s contribution to the drugs issue. Between the war on terrorism and the battle against drugs, the rhetoric of war is firmly rooted in the lexicon of the 21st century. And it has crept into healthcare too: we read of the “collateral damage” of chemotherapy to describe the side effects of cancer treatments. Yet the term is defined by the US army as “the unintentional damage or incidental damage affecting facilities, equipment or personnel occurring as a result of military action directed against targeted enemy forces or facilities”. How did we get from this to: “A new strategy in the war on renal cell cancer: hitting multiple targets with limited collateral damage” – the title of a 2008 research paper. Perhaps the author succumbed to the temptation to use military jargon to spruce up his manuscript. Clearly military life cannot be distanced from the rest of the world, but do we really need terms like “killer cells” and “vaccine shots” when talking to patients? I worry about the effect of such language on patients. We ask them to “beat” illness and to “keep up the good fight”. Doctors talk of building up the person’s “resistance” and of prescribing “magic bullets” to kill off cancer cells, all of which may suit those with determined personalities. But what of the meek, the mild or those who are depressed? They may be neither inclined nor able to respond to exhortations to fight back. And unable to respond, it is possible that certain people will feel they have “failed” themselves, their families and their medical team. What about the notion that engaging a fighting spirit will protect you against a cancer recurrence? A large UK study suggests this is a fallacy: a long-term follow-up of cancer patients at the Royal Marsden Hospital found that a high fighting spirit confers no survival advantage on those who displayed extreme fortitude. There are alternative approaches when we face serious illness. One of the best is to view the process as a journey. There will be bumps along the road; some parts will be downhill while others will take more effort. The journey will offer alternative routes and it may be appropriate at times to rest a while. Another advantage of the journey analogy is that you can take a travelling companion with you. Tony Gregory died at St Francis Hospice on Dublin’s north side. I suspect he was facilitated on his final journey by the wide range of health professionals who work there. After all, the word hospice is derived from the Latin, hospes, and it originally referred to the tradition of giving shelter to those on a journey. George Orwell wrote about the powerful role of words. “Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent,” he said. His advice is especially apposite when it comes to the use of military jargon in healthcare. I’d like to think Tony Gregory would approve. Resolved Question: Wouldn't make more sense to use all metric nuts and bolts? Use the metric system in weights and measures?

In working on a car or any other machine, often causes the need to have two sets of tools. Use the wrong one and you damage the nut or bolt head. Why is the United States so stubborn about converting to the Metric system?! Then there is the medical field, Medical personel have to deal with gallons and liters. We measure temperature of patients in Farenheit but other equiment uses centigrade, especially the imported equipment. It s no wonder we are way behind in education. Old dogs here in the USA will not learn new tricks. Some say that it costs too much to go metric. That war in Iraq has no cost limit. The costs of giving jobs to people from other countries because they are better educated in science, engineering, and medicine, is reason enough to change. I see instructions in my clinic that say measure one item in gallons and the additive going in it in milliters. Bottles with liter or kg marks and we try to put a certain number of gallons in them. This is your U.S. Hospitals. more
