Manufacturers Equipment Questions and Answers
Open Question: Car Stereo question - system callibration?
I'm trying to set up my system which includes an active crossover - the manual for the crossover says to "turn up the output until the signal distorts, then back it off a bit"; the manuals for the amps both say basically the same thing: "turn up the gain until it distorts, then back it off a bit" ; fair enough, BUT . . . how do I know whether the distortion is from too much output or too much gain? (If I don't know which is which, I can't correct the problem!) Is there some rule of thumb I should follow regarding where to set the gain on the signal going into the amps, or should I work at it from the crossover end? I've gotten nowhere with Tech Support from the manufacturers of any of the equipment; their techs don't seem to be very knowledgeable, and think that reading the manual to me over the phone will solve the problem. I've read the manuals, they don't contain the information that I need, that's why I called the Tech Support line. Anyone have any tips, tricks or insights? moreResolved Question: If presented insurance profits facts from Obama, the AFL / CIO, and MorningStar, whose numbers?

Don't they have profit margins of 3 to 4%?
Over the past year, “the profit margin for health insurance companies was a modest 3.4 percent,” Newman points out, quoting data provided by Morningstar, a company that rates mutual funds. Morningstar would have no reason to low-ball the insurance industry’s profits; its readers are looking for highly profitable sectors of the economy where they can invest. But the health plan industry is not one of those sectors: insurers ranks 87th out of 215 industries. The most profitable industry over the past year has been - beverages, with a 25.9 percent profit margin, - healthcare real-estate trusts (firms that are basically the landlords for hospitals and healthcare facilities) - application-software (think Windows). - oil and gas industry overall was 10.2 percent, three times the margin in the health insurance industry. - high-fliers like Google—which had a 20.6 percent margin - Microsoft, at 24.9 percent. - Pharmaceutical companies 16.4 percent Amgen (biotechnology): Profit margin, 30.6 percent • Gilead Sciences (biotechnology): 37.6 percent • Celgene Corp. MorningStar is an organization who monitors and rates investments. I would not believe the AFL/CIO numbers.DSTR - We are not talking CEO compensation. We are talking overall profit margins. If he made $1 million, would $2 million impact profits all that much?Hey mental case - I think you named yourself appropriately. I am not Paul Grass regardless of how many times you say it. The purpose of this plant tour is to expose the students particularly the BSBA-Management Accounting III taking up Production & Operations Management with wider experiences, knowledge and skills with different techniques involved in manufacturing through actual plant visits located in Manila; to familiarize the students relative to the different activities involved in industrial operations; to enable the students understand the means by which modern industry moves its product concept toward production realities; and to promote camaraderie among BSBA-Management Accounting III students. This travelogue started when our Production & Operations Management adviser, Mrs. Fe Fernandine, told us that we would be having a plant tour in Manila, a pack of excitement embedded in our minds. Mixed emotions have crafted. She gave details about our tour and explained to why we should execute this activity. From the parents’ consultancy, all I can say, this was a good idea to have meeting between parents and faculty members. In the said meeting they had discussed the itinerary of the tour, the breakdown of expenditures, the lodging, and the bus for transportation. In our departure to Manila, the agreed time wasn’t followed. The only thing on my mind on that time was wear and tear of time and effort on the part of the faculty members and us students. When the buses had arrived, we were relieved from aches. It’s hard to wait for something that has no assurance to come. And it was 9.30 p.m., blah blah blah, the buses were not moving. I’m sick with it. At passed 10:00 p.m., we moved out. The bus we were into ran roughly because of rollercoaster rail-liked road. It’s breath taking. I don’t like the music played in our bus. It’s kind of freaking noise. So loud, some of us couldn’t sleep peacefully because of it. First stop over, second, third, so on and so forth. As I looked out to my time, it was passed 6:00 in the morning when we had arrived at Manila. Ambassadors Hotel, good name of a building, but its amenities are not as nice as its name. The rules and regulations are imposed by the hotel management, so we don’t have no reasons to blame our advisers for that matters. These are the excerpt of the hotel’s guidelines: No bringing of electrical appliances; the curfew hours (from 8pm to 4am); wearing shorts and pajamas while roaming around within the hotel is not allowed, but some of our classmates violated this rule and yet the room service crews didn’t make any action concerning it; and about the room amenities are really alarming, it’s costly, especially the unit costs of the beds, beddings, TV, closet and etc. The food was great but the attendants were not. They didn’t show some courteousness and they kept on cringing with each other while serving our food. It’s blameworthy. During our last night at the ambassadors hotel, it’s sad to say, some students showed disgracefulness towards the men room service crews. As patrons, we should also show some respect even though we were their customers and do what was only acted upon us and don’t go beyond it. February 4 at 11:00 am, we departed from the hotel. The first plant we visited was at the Lamoiyan Corporation. Honestly this was my first plant I ever visited in my entire life. It’s nice, clean and quite small. They showcased their firm through viewing some videos about the Lamoiyan Co. and their success through out the country. Our speaker told something about the corporation and it all started when the previous company of Mr. Cecilio K. Pedro, Aluminum Container Inc., manufacturer of aluminum tubes closed down. By 1985, toothpaste giants began using plastic laminated tubes. Although this caused Mr. Pedro to close his factory, he realized his old equipment could still be put to good use by forging into the Philippines toothpaste market on his own. Two years later, he reopened his factory as Lamoiyan Corporation, now known as the manufacturer of toothpaste brands’ Hapee and Kutitap. The discussion was so informative for us students, the consumers. And it was our first time to know that some household care and personal care products such as Dazz (dishwashing paste and liquid), Fresher and Gumtect are under the ownership Lamoiyan and no doubt how this corporation created a tight bound between their consumers, we Filipinos. After the visit, we’ve been to Mall of Asia for our leisure. February 5. Next, the SGS (Societe Generale de Surveillance) Philippines at Makati City, Metro Manila. Despite the fact that we were not being able to visit there, because it was randomly selected, some concern students relayed their experiences at the SGS Phils. SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing, and certification company. It’s recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. It provides inspection, verification, testing and certification through some services like agricultural, mineral and etc. They said it was the highlight of the tour but we were not moreResolved Question: Career advice/ what move should I take next to again score a success.?

A chemical manufacturer produces two chemicals. X and Y. Each ton of X requires $200 of working capital, whereas each ton of Y requires $400. Two primary raw materials are used in the production process. Each ton of X requires 7 tons of raw material 1, and each ton of Y requires 5tons. Each ton of X requires 10 tons of raw material 2, and each ton of Y also requires 10 tons of raw material 2. The company has only $ 200 of working capital, 35 tons of raw material 1, and 60 tons of raw material 2 available during the planning period. The plant manager has two conflicting objectives: maximize and maximize the utilization of the expensive process equipment used to produce X and Y. Each ton of X yields $100 in profit and each ton of Y yields $80. Each ton of X uses only 30 hours of process time, whereas each ton of Y uses 50 hours. (a)Using graphic methods specify the feasible region for this problem. Identify the four alternatives (excluding the origin). (b)For each alternative, specify the values of each objective function. Identify the alternative that maximizes profit and the one that maximizes utilization. Are any of the four alternatives inferior? Explain (c)Suppose the manager has specified a goal of $530 for profits and 260 hours for utilization. Formulate a goal-programming model assuming that the manager wishes to minimize the percentage deviations from the stated goals and that both objectives have equal weighting in this regard. (d)Suppose profits are twice as important s utilization. Use the model developed in the part c to find the best alternative. You may use a computer if you have access to one. If you solve the problem manually you will not have to add artificial variables for the goal constraints. I asked the seller if they are real beforehand, and he told me that it's from OEM (original equipment manufacturer). I just received them yesterday, and there are red flags going off. 1) You can see a strip of glue along the front rubber sidewall. 2) There is no barcode underneath the labeling on the tongue as you can see at: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2365686 3) There are typos on the description tag. 4) The price is 195 (which I'm thinking is Chinese yuan) is the equivalent to $29 USD 5) The circular label seems a bit questionable (S is smudged) 6) You can feel friction on the rubber sidewall. These efforts to dominate the global manufacture of renewable energy technologies raise the prospect that the West may someday trade its dependence on oil from the Mideast for a reliance on solar panels, wind turbines and other gear manufactured in China. “Most of the energy equipment will carry a brass plate, ‘Made in China,’ ” said K. K. Chan, the chief executive of Nature Elements Capital, a private equity fund in Beijing that focuses on renewable energy. President Obama, in his State of the Union speech last week, sounded an alarm that the United States was falling behind other countries, especially China, on energy. “I do not accept a future where the jobs and industries of tomorrow take root beyond our borders — and I know you don’t either,” he told Congress. The United States and other countries are offering incentives to develop their own renewable energy industries, and Mr. Obama called for redoubling American efforts. Yet many Western and Chinese executives expect China to prevail in the energy-technology race. Multinational corporations are responding to the rapid growth of China’s market by building big, state-of-the-art factories in China. Vestas of Denmark has just erected the world’s biggest wind turbine manufacturing complex here in northeastern China, and transferred the technology to build the latest electronic controls and generators. “You have to move fast with the market,” said Jens Tommerup, the president of Vestas China. “Nobody has ever seen such fast development in a wind market.” Renewable energy industries here are adding jobs rapidly, reaching 1.12 million in 2008 and climbing by 100,000 a year, according to the government-backed Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association. Yet renewable energy may be doing more for China’s economy than for the environment. Total power generation in China is on track to pass the United States in 2012 — and most of the added capacity will still be from coal. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/31/business/energy-environment/31renew.html?ref=world&pagewanted=print moreResolved Question: Which is the better manufacturer in terms of quality of equipment - Atlanco or Condor?

Induction burners are portable and favorable because they maintain a safer and cooler cooking environment, however, will not likely become a regular part of the commercial kitchen. 4. While pans lined with a polymer such as Silverstone or Teflon provide a slippery, nonreactive finish that keeps food from sticking, and thus enables the chef to use less fat in the cooking process, the great deal of care required to keep this coating from chipping, scratching or peeling may not make it an appropriate pan to have in a commercial kitchen. 5. About 2 weeks ago, my car was robbed for their 22 inch wheels and tires. It was left on blocks in front of my home. The problem is... is that my insurance company, Infinity, doesn't want to pay me for the loss, or replace just regular manufacturer tires. The reason, is I didn't have specialty coverage on any custom wheels. Now the problem with that statement, is back when I purchased my first vehicle, I came upon Infinity, and have been with them for 4 years before I sold that vehicle and got my Chrysler 300 that came with custom wheels and tires. So I switched vehicles on my policy and they didn't ask me to come into take pictures. So I was unaware about this coverage, I just assumed since we bought the vehicle the way it was sold to us, then everything was covered since it was being financed through the bank and we had full coverage. So I am just blown away that This company, Infinity, doesn't give 2 cents about our loss. The Infinity employee that first took down our info when we purchased the vehicle, asked us a bunch of questions about the make and details down to the grill and tires, so why wouldn't she suggest specialty equipment insurance... I mean we have the right to know this stuff and they would be making more money in the process. Anyone with information on what I could do to fix this, or maybe I have to just take this loss.... Thank you for the feedback!!!4 years ago, I purchased my first car, a honda, it didnt have any custom stuff put on it, just a plain ol car. I signed an application when I decided to go with Infinity. Stating I didn't need any additional coverage for any equipment. But about 2 years ago, we purchased a used chysler 300 that came equipped with custom wheels and tires. I called up Infinity took coverage off honda and got new coverage on chysler. They asked me a few detailed questions and that was it. I wasn't instructed to come into the office. I was with Infinity for 5 years, so the claims adjuster said I didn't need to sign a new applicaton since I already had 5 years ago with my first app, but that was with my first car that didn't need specialty coverage. They didn't have me come in with this new car nor did they mention I have this extra stuff covered when I switched cars. How could I even remember what was in my previous application. Thats what they're trying to stick on me. Is that it, can I do anything? moreResolved Question: Should the presence of biblical references on equipment stop the army ordering items?

News story regarding bible markings on military weapons: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8468981.stm "The markings include "2COR4:6" and "JN8:12", relating to verses in the books of II Corinthians and John." REFERENCE: 1) John 8:12 (New International Version): When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 2) 2 Corinthians 4:6 (New International Version) For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. I was wondering how the Christian founder of this weapons company justifies the markings given that the bible says "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17 etc). What do Christians think of this? Do you disagree with using bible references on weapons? When is killing ok, and when is it not? I'm just interested on your take on it. Atheists, as ever, your opinions are interesting also :)Thanks for all your answers and comments so far :) I agree with Sage that this is politically very dangerous for America (I'm sure the government didn't know about it, but if they did then foolish). Terrorist groups can now state it's definitely a religious war (even though it isn't), in which case the terrorists will get even more recruits. In conclusion, the founder of the weapons company has just helped kill even more people on both sides. I doubt that was his intention?lol @ Irony Man ;) moreResolved Question: What is your opinion on this article?
Soda fountains contained fecal bacteria, study found (CNN) -- It fizzes. It quenches. And it could also contain fecal bacteria. Nearly half of the 90 beverages from soda fountain machines in one area in Virginia tested positive for coliform bacteria -- which could indicate possible fecal contamination, according to a study published in the January issue of International Journal of Food Microbiology. Researchers also detected antibiotic-resistant microbes and E.coli in the soda samples. "Certainly we come in contact with bacteria all the time," Renee Godard, lead author of the study and professor of biology and environmental studies at Hollins University, a private liberal arts college in Roanoke, Virginia. "It's simply that some bacteria may potentially cause some disease or gastrointestinal distress. One thing we hesitate with is that people get afraid of bacteria. Many of them are benign or helpful, but certainly, I don't want E.coli in my beverage." The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's drinking-water regulations require that all samples test negative for E.coli. Many of the soda beverages from the dispensers fell below U.S. drinking-water standards, according to the findings. "The large number of beverages and soda fountain machines containing E. coli is still of considerable concern... and suggests that more pathogenic strains of bacteria could persist and thrive in soda fountain machines if introduced," the authors wrote. Godard and her colleagues acquired 90 beverages of three types, (sugar soda, diet soda, water) from 30 fast food restaurants in a 22-mile area near Roanoke, in southern Virginia. They surveyed beverages from both self-service and employee-dispensed machines and the samples were tested. There were no reported outbreaks of food-borne illness related in the Roanoke area at the time of the study. They found that 48 percent of beverages obtained from soda fountains contained coliform bacteria, 11 percent contained E. coli (which are mostly harmless, but some can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness and pneumonia), and 17 percent had Chryseobacterium meningosepticum (which could sicken newborns or adults with weakened immune systems). Dean Cliver, professor of food safety emeritus at University of California Davis, said it would be premature to draw broad conclusions about all soda fountains from a localized study. "How sanitation regulations are promulgated and enforced in a community are different," Cliver said. "Some communities are more on to it than others. How much of a threat it represents? It's probably limited. Once again, it's a matter of what regulations are in place, who pays attention and whether it's being followed." The samples were contained in petri dishes and the bacteria multiplied within 48 hours, so much so that they became visible to the naked eye as 300 to 400 tiny dots, Godard said. A Hollins undergraduate microbiology student accidentally discovered that water from a restaurant beverage dispenser contained bacteria while completing a homework assignment. When the results came back, this piqued the interest of faculty and students. The researchers are uncertain how the bacteria got inside the beverage machines. "It could be from dispensing with a hand that wasn't clean or using wet rags to wipe down the machine," Godard said. "We haven't done the work to really identify those potential sources and how these bacteria get established." Manitowoc Foodservice, one of the leading manufacturers of ice and beverage equipment, did not have the opportunity to review the study, but released this statement in response to CNN.com's questions: "We emphasize in our product support material proper methods for and the importance of frequent, thorough cleaning and sanitizing of foodservice equipment. In food equipment as in any environment where microorganisms can occur naturally or be spread by contact, it is essential to follow proven steps for cleaning and sanitizing." The National Restaurant Association, a business association for the restaurant industry, e-mailed this statement in response to the findings: "While the results of this study are disconcerting, we feel that it isn't representative of our industry and that our guests can safely enjoy beverages from dispensers and single-serve containers alike." The American Beverage Association made this statement: "Fountain beverages are safe. Consumers can rest assured that our industry's fountain beverages pose no public health risk." The organization, which represents hundreds of beverage producers, distributors, and franchise companies stated that "Importantly, our industry meets, and often exceeds, all government health standards in bringing its products to market." I have a lot of abstracts that I could turn into repeatable units for fabrics but no access to textile printing equipment or industry contacts. There are 115 designers listed onhotfrog. Which of them are worthwhile contacting?I have no access for room at home to print my own textiles and I doubt any printers would print small runs. Besides I wouldd money for equipment. Since there is now digital transfer technology available I'm hoping to convert some of my designs . moreVoting Question: I'm building a home gym, whose equipment should i use?
I am going to build up a home gym and was curious about equipment manufacturers. I want free weights first, not machines. I'm just curious who is the "best" manufacturer of free weights? I've seen Troy, Weider, and Impex weight sets pop up a lot. Any others? Pros and Cons of their stuff? Like do the collars spin smoothly, how about their cost? Just give me your opinions from personal experience and what you like and dislike about them. Even if it's that you think the etched grip on the bar is too deep or shallow or abrasive... Nothing is trivial. I should add i want Olympic weights...not some crappy standard cast iron set. moreResolved Question: Are expenses for durable medical equipment tax-deductible, if total > 7.5% AGI, ONLY if prescribed by a doctor?
. . . or, is written documentation from the manufacturer that the durable medical equipment device treats a condition, that you have already been diagnosed with by a doctor, considered sufficient to make it a tax-deductible medical expense? moreResolved Question: What's the best furnace and a/c equipment available these days?
We're getting a new furnace installed and it seems all the vendors are offering different brand equipment. In order of preference, what are the best furnace and a/c manufacturers these days? moreResolved Question: How much will the windmill tender be paid?
Since we will be displacing coal miners, coal shippers, mining equipment manfacturers, workers at coal fired power plants, auto workers, engine manufacturers, not one new nuclear plant has come on line in around 25 years, oil exploration is clearly killing the planet, dams prevent the mating rituals of the snail darter, the spotted owl is clearly more important than loggers, any remaining founderies and steel manfacturing will never survive the tax and falsified science, who in their right mind would go into medicine with the advent of socialized medicine when they can make more money and live a more relaxed lifestyle as a windmill tender, and now it has been proven that pets are an environmental liability and simply a luxury, the thousands of people involved in that industry need to be stopped, I see that there will be lots and lots of people making windmills. As long as they don't erect them by a Kennedy's property. But since China can make everything cheaper we can expect our windmills to come from overseas as well. So that leaves Windmill tenders and techs. We will have millions of displaced American workers and since they will be getting green jobs according to our president, that means windmill tending will become the most popular job in the US. Or perhaps a dog exterminator or feline elimination engineer will surge to the front of most in demand jobs. What can we expect from these fantastic new careers in the green sector as a pay rate? 100K/year? Or will it be more like free house, free food, free clothing, free transportation, free health care, and 5K cash a year for all comrads? moreResolved Question: Break even question help required?
ABC manufacturer company produces a particular item for Rs.2.50 and sells it for Rs.3. Fixed costs associated with the item are Rs.10,000 a year. Suppose the firm is contemplating the addition of a new piece of equipment to reduce manufacturing costs. Variable costs will be reduced to Rs. 2.25, but fixed costs will be increased by Rs.2,000 a year. How will this proposed change in the manufacturing process influence the break-even point? moreManufacturers Equipment News
