Resolved Question: Need help with math word problem?

A new middle school in Albuquerque would like to buy a laser Disk player in order to set up a Multimedia Lab in the library. The cost of the Laser Disk Player is $656.95. The school also needs the CD-ROM packet of information to use in the lab that currently sells for $545.00. The principal must decide between 2 ways to acquire the money for the equipment needed. One way would be to sell ice cream to the school's population of 1100 students at $1.00 a bar. However, similar sales in the past have resulted in average daily sale only 1/6 of the total population. The other way to raise funds is to have a bake sale. In the past, sales have occurred twice a weak, and have sold 30 items for $0.75 a place. Which is the best way for the principal to raise the money? more

Resolved Question: have you read the MPs expenses articles on the yahoo home page?

Parliament has become a filthy disgusting rat hole hasn't it? Isn't it time we voted out the trash that infest the place? Isn't it time to call in rent a kill? Those obnoxious W*^K+=S we laughingly refer to as MPs are still fiddling the books and claiming for Ist class hotels and £1500.00 dinners while the MOD is engaged in hunting around the military equivalent of car boot sale's to buy cheap shoddy make do equipment for our soldiers. MPs are still fitting their kitchens with the finest units available while our soldiers families are living in sub standard homes that this government wouldn't even allow immigrants to live in....and isn't it strange that there are fleets of helicopters available to take fat bloated MPs off to Various self indulgent gatherings, But none available to protect our soldiers.....What a bloody disgrace parliament is. The place should be bulldozed to the ground, it no longer speaks for the people of this country. Surely its time we voted outside of the main parties and fumigated old Britain? Christ! almighty ANYTHING has to be better than lab, con, or libs. they have screwed up this country between them for too long.Pat, you got it about right mate. perhaps the flats made available to them can be supplied and furnished by the MOD to the same standard that they insist is good enough for our soldiers. more

Resolved Question: What do U think of these lastest arrests & the amount of fruad involved Illegals try to bribe DMV?

Three Hispanics believed to be here illegally face charges of bribing a Gaston County driver license examiner with $300 to get a driver’s license, according to arrest warrants and affidavits. DMV inspectors arrested Claudia Morales Rodriguez, 29, and Alfredo Lopez Hernandez, 29, both of Gastonia, and Juan Alberto Goddy Vasquez, 37, of Kings Mountain on charges of attempting to bribe a state driver license examiner to obtain a driver’s license. All three are believed to be in the country illegally, according to the DMV. They were placed in Gaston County Jail under $10,000 bonds Monday. Their release remains on hold by Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending a review of their immigration status, according to Gaston County Sheriff's Office. The arrests stem from an investigation of a document lab that had equipment and materials to manufacture counterfeit resident alien cards, Social Security cards, birth certificates and driver licenses from six states, according to a release from the Department of Motor Vehicles. DMV inspectors arrested Mario Ziranda, 35, and Elvis Sanchez, 28, at their residence at 272 Roberson Lane, Forest City. They face charges of common law forgery, manufacturing North Carolina driver licenses, felony trafficking of identification documents, possession and delivery of cocaine and misuse of vital records. Searching the Forest City residence revealed ledgers showing hundreds of fake document sales weekly, according to the release. Driver licenses from California, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Ohio and North Carolina were found at the location, along with Social Security cards and a Maryland birth certificate. Investigators also seized $8,000 in cash and 15 grams of cocaine. Sanchez has no legal United States documentation, according to the release. Both are being held on $75,000 secured bond in Rutherford County Jail. DMV spokeswoman Marge Howell said she didn’t know how the three suspects in Gaston County were connected to the Rutherford County suspects, but all were part of the same investigation. “We have had a lot of these things happen, pop up all over the state,” Howell said. The License and Theft Bureau performs more than 3,600 fraud investigations annually, Howell said. “A lot of them are fraudulent document cases,” Howell said. License and theft inspectors from Gaston, Burke, Lincoln, Catawba and Cleveland counties conducted the investigations and made the arrests, according to the release. Law enforcement officials from the Gastonia Police Department, Forest City Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrests. Gastonia Police Sgt. Jimmy West said none of the trio arrested in Gaston County spoke English. One had been here 15 years, another had been here for nine years and the third had been here for six years, he said. “We’ve always had issues with fake driver’s licenses, fake ID cards,” West said. This isn’t the first investigation like this in the county and it won’t be the last, West said. In July, two Hispanic men offered $400 each to a local DMV license examiner to get N.C. driver’s licenses while a third tried to use the identity of someone else to obtain one for him. They, too, were believed to be in the country illegally. “When they come out here they’re looking for a better life. You can’t fault them for that,” West said. “But they don’t do it the right way.” http://www.gastongazette.com/news/bribes-37934-offering-office.html more

Resolved Question: im writing a research paper and i need commentary for my quotes please help!?

im writing a research paper for my english class and the rough draft is due tomorrow the topic is on animal experimentation i have quotes but i need to write commentary on them these are a few of the quotes i have: “In 1824, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was established in England to lobby for the humane treatment of animals. The RSPCA remains Britain’s largest animal-rights group today, with 500,000 members. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded in 1866. One of the largest U.S. animal-advocacy groups, it currently has 350,00 members.” (Animal Testing). “The first anti-vivisectionist society in the U.S. was formed in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1883 and sill exists today as the American Anti-vivisection Society” (Animal Testing). Vivisection is defined as the practice of performing operations on live animals for the purpose of experimentation or scientific research. “It was not until 1966 that similar legislation was passed by the U.S. Congress, in the form of the Animal Welfare Act. That law set minimum standards for the care of animals in laboratories and required government-run and private labs to submit to random inspections by the Agriculture Department (USDA). The law has been amended three times—in 1970, 1976 and 1985—and now applies to animals exhibited in zoos and circuses and those raised by commercial breeders for sale to pet stores and researchers” (Animal Testing). “PETA was founded in June 1980, and since then has become one of the most influential animal-rights groups in the U.S. PETA’s dedication […] has attracted 500,000 members to its cause. PETA has relied heavily on publicity and advertising campaigns that feature celebrities” (Animal Testing). “Even more militant animal-rights supporters emerged on the national scene in the mid-1980s. Since 1984, the underground international group Animal Liberation Front (ALF) has claimed responsibility for more than 70 attacks on research labs in the U.S. in which equipment has been destroyed and animals set free. A spate of lab raids in the 1980s led to the passage of the Animal Enterprise Protection Act in August 1992, which made attacks on animal labs or farms a federal crime punishable by fines and imprisonment” (Animal Testing). anything will help. pppllleasee and thank yoouuu <3 more

Resolved Question: I was ripped off by a company in CA, and I live in New York. What actions can I take to file a crime report?

After recently graduating from esthetics school (spa, facials, ect.) I bought spa equipment from a company called ree've lab out of CA when they were at the beauty/esthetics conference at the Javits Center in NYC earlier this year. At the Beauty show you get a lot of good deals, and so as a business investment, I purchased $1100 for all of the equipment for an entire spa room. Barely any of the numbers for this company work, and now when I finally find a working number and get someone on the phone, it's actually the owner, stating his name, but not his position as the owner (he was acting like an underling and like he had to go through different departments to get me my equipment, but in reality, and after researching, I found out there are only four employees and he's the owner). After weeks of me calling this man everyday, finally, he claimed the paperwork was done and he said everything was in motion to get my equipment shipped, and that he would call me the next day with a freight number and never did. This BS went on for a few months. Every time I call, he gives me an excuse and the run around saying it's on it way, but it never is. I have to block my number for him to answer my calls. Now he is still answering the phone at Ree've Lab, with just his name, but after all of this, he's now telling me that Ree've Lab went out of business and that he's working for and they're operating under a new company, and that they don't have to honor my sale anymore. I HATE TALKING TO HIM. He is mean, deceitful, and I have caught him in so many lies. I want to take legal action even though I don't have money for a lawyer. If I am in New York and the company was in Ca, what can I do? I know I should file a crime report of some kind, but I don't know where to start. I spent over a thousand dollars total (I don't really even have the money-it was more of me buying the equipment as a business investment- I used my savings that as a student took me a while to save). I have a receipt and everything that I would need to prove I bought it from them. I already contacted the administrators from the esthetics and cosmetology conference in New York to tell the the story. If I google his name there are millions of complaints. I don't know how he keeps getting away with it. I guess it's easy to prey on people at trade shows, because we automatically think it's safe to buy from a company at one of these events, but it's not and I don't want this stress happening to others! I have been losing sleep over this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.  more

Resolved Question: Have you ever seen this, I think it is hysterical and I don't believe it either ?

Hospital Cost Cutting Measures To: All Hospital Staff The Glasgow Royal Infirmary has decided to cut costs. Effective April 1 this hospital will no longer provide security. Each charge nurse will be issued a .38 caliber revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition. An additional 12 rounds will be stored in the pharmacy. In addition to routine nursing duties, Charge Nurses will rotate the patrolling of the hospital grounds. A bicycle and helmet will be provided for patrolling the park areas. In light of the similarity of monitoring equipment, ICU will now take over the security surveillance duties. The unit secretary will be responsible for watching cardiac and security monitors as well as continuing previous secretarial duties. Food service will be discontinued. Patients wishing to be fed will need to let their families know to bring something, or may make arrangements with Subway, Domino's, etc., before meal time. Coin-operated phones will be available in the patient rooms for this purpose as well as for other calls the patient may wish to make. Housekeeping and physical therapy are being combined. Mops will be issued to those patients who are ambulatory, thus providing range-of-motion exercise as well as a clean environment. Families of ambulatory patients may also sign up to clean the rooms of non-ambulatory patients for special discounts for their final bill. Time cards will be provided. As you can see in the "FROM" line above, administration is assuming grounds keeping duties. If an adminstrator cannot be reached by calling his/her office it is suggested that you walk outside and listen for the sound of a lawn mower, weed whacker, etc. Engineering is being eliminated. The hospital has subscribed to the TIME_LIFE "How to..." series of maintainence books. These books can be checked out from administration, and a toolbox will be standard equipment on all nursing units. We will be receiving the series at the rate of one volume every other month. We already have the volume on Basic Wiring, but if a non-electrical problem occurs, please try to handle it as best you can until the appropriate volume arrives. Cutbacks in the phlebotomy staff will be accommodated by only performing blood-related lab tests on patients who are already bleeding. Physicians will be informed that they may order no more than two x-rays per patient stay. This is due to the turnaround time required by Revco's photolab. Two prints will be provided for the price of one, and physicians are being advised to clip coupons from the Sunday paper if they want extra sets. Revco's will honor competitor's coupons for one-hour processing in emergency situations, so if you come across any coupons, please clip them and send them to the ER. In light of the extremely hot summer temperature the electric company has been asked to install individual meters in each patient room, office, etc., so that the electrical consumption can be monitored and appropriately billed. Fans will be available for sale or lease in the hospital gift shop. In addition to the current recycling program, a bin for the collection of unused fruit and bread will soon be provided on each floor. Families, patients and the few remaining employees are encouraged to contribute discarded produce. The resulting moldy compost will be utilized by the pharmacy for nocosomial production of antibiotics. The antibiotics will also be available for purchase through the hospital pharmacy and will, coincidentally, soon be the only antibiotics listed in the HMO's formulary.  more

Voting Question: Patenting Question for new business???

Hi, i'm an engineering student and that is graduating this year and I am interested in starting my own business for lab and research equipment such as centrifuges, pipettes, incubators, etc... However I have a question regarding patent laws that I was hoping someone could answer. Main question is do I need a patent for all products being produced. There are many companies producing products that are very similar however the external design is slightly different. For example mini-centrifuges there are many companies that produce and sale them, however they are all very similar and I'm guessing that many of them only differ by their external design. Would I need to obtain patent for a similar example or do I need to make modifications and claims that makes mine different from others on the market before production and sales has been started. I am wondering because I have done patent searches on companies and saw that not all there products are patented only a few that are unique. more
